There's an interesting contrast of motion here. The work has an upward thrust to its lines but is very bottom heavy. My eye keeps going up and down like a roller coaster over this work. It's quite dynamic for a static subject.
The colors work well here too. The red should dominate the gold and pale ivory skin tone, but the centrality of the nude and the large white wall counter it effectively. Posted by: Kris at December 08, 2022 09:45 AM (VQp/A) 102

I've spent a bit of time looking at it now. I'm in the minority, but I like it.
Probably because I am a runner, I am more attracted to an athletic female body than the more traditional softer approach. In early June 1918, O'Keeffe moved to New York[...] Within a month he took the first of many nude photographs of her at his family's apartment while his wife Emmy was away, but she returned while their session was still in progress.
So Stiglitz was having an affair with O'Keeffe and his wife literally walked in on then...Awkward.... Looking at the pictures, Emmy wasn't a bad look woman but also a lot older then O'Keeffe. Posted by: 18-1 at December 08, 2022 10:15 AM (ESjRY) 245

If we want to talk politics, I find it interesting that a group of Germans were arrested for plotting to overthrow their government. I have a feeling that one of these attempts will eventually succeed.
Germany has signed the death warrant for their country, by shutting down nuclear, and signing on with the EU on banning Russian gas. Their entire manufacturing model relies on abundant and cheap natural gas, not only for electricity, but for feedstock for their manufacturing. With no cheap gas, there is no way that Germany can maintain their manufacturing base, and therefore the entire country goes bankrupt. It reminds me of 1920, when the French occupied the Ruhr Valley in order to take the reparations Germany owed, and we know how that turned out. It also lends credence to the theory that Germany was about to agree to a separate peace with Russia in order to get the gas, so someone affiliated with NATO blew up the Nordstream. I can't speak to furniture, certainly not too good for surfaces that need grain, but for painted wood - doors, door/window casings Bondo is brilliant. Far more durable than most wood fillers, still works pretty easily, dries fast. They sell a red version specifically labeled as a wood filler, still a two part polyester resin, I haven't found a difference between that and the usual gray auto body stuff. Just keep the area well ventilated while using it and wear a mask and keep the shop vac handy while sanding. Posted by: JEM at December 08, 2022 10:23 AM (8erNz) 281

Back in the 70's my little brother and I used to build Estes rockets during the summer and launch them from our back yard. I remember one in particular had a glider attached to it that would separate and, if you were lucky to be able to find it, fly it again.
I think some of those things are still around but way more expensive then when we were messing around with them. I do occasionally pull out my older model DJI Phantom 3 quad copter drone and fly it around. It takes a lot of effort to get it prepped to fly though since it sits for months on end between flights. He said the springs were steel and way better than anything we get today, even high end stuff. He would trash pick it and fix it up, put it in the window of his shop and it would sell within days. I'm sitting next to an art object I rescued from demolition in 1983. It's an oak panel-8'X8'-fresco enamel and gold leaf. Came from a bakery company headquarters near Madison Square Garden. It's titled "What's in a Donut" and has scenes of wheat harvest, farm with cows and chickens, spices, research, etc. The artist was Louis Ross, who was a WPA artist. Dated 1941, it's done in Art Deco style and is quite beautiful. I think the artist would be amused to find out how his art made it to a home in NC. My wife drove our van down the West Side Highway to pick it up, as I was running the renovation it came from. We tied the art to the roof of the van, since it was way too large to fit inside.

I read somewhere that American manufacturing orders for China have dropped by 40% and they're holding shipping for full loads.
Posted by: Miley Companies are pulling their manufacturing out of China as fast as they can. Add to that the surprising move by the junta over here to shut down chip technology to China has made a big impact. In addition, in January, Russian oil can't be insured in tankers, and China was getting a lot of their oil that way, and suddenly the idea that China won't be manufacturing in a few years becomes possible.
