Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Krysten Sinema, Thom Tillis Now Circulating a Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill for "Dreamers"Gotta ram this through before the new Congress comes to town. Supposedly, the deal is:*Some form of path to citizenship for 2 million dreamers. * A large boost in resources to speed up the processing of asylum seekers, including new processing centers and more asylum officers and judges. * More resources to expedite the removal of migrants who don't qualify for asylum. * A continuation of the Title 42 covid-health-rule restriction on migrants applying for asylum, until the new processing centers are operational, with the aim of a one-year cutoff. * More funding for border officers. The idea behind this compromise is this: It gives Democrats protections for 2 million dreamers and beefed up defenses of the due process rights of some migrants. It gives Republicans faster removal of migrants who fail to qualify for asylum to prevent them from remaining in the country, a continued restriction on applications for the next year and more border security. Why shouldn't Title 42 be permanent? As far as "more funding to expedite asylum cases:" if Title 42 (remain in Mexico) were permanent, this wouldn't be as necessary. Also, this is more Democrat smoke and mirrors; so, you're going to get the process reduced from nine years to, what, seven? And note, during this period, they're allowed to stay in the US -- and have children, who are automatically citizens, aka "anchor babies." What about the absurd rules that get people asylum if they just tell the right lies? What about requiring actual proof of these claims? And again, what about just making Remain in Mexico the rule going forward, permanently? But whatever, I'm totally sure we'll get the benefit of the bargain on this, like we always do, on all of these amnesty plans. Basically Biden just wants to extend Title 42 for another year because he's afraid the overrun border will hurt him politically. But he wants the Republicans to give him something in return for something he himself needs. And the Republicans are just stupid enough to give him something in return for nothing. This proposed immigration deal is a flat no. These asylum processing changes are utter rubbish. All they change is exactly not a damn thing - the border will still be wide open with the illegals being released into country never to be seen again. And how is it that we suddenly have something approaching 10 million people all seeking asylum? Asylum is a code word to illegal immigration opponents that now means "we will cut your balls off if you oppose us."
To me, this reeks of giving the Democrats an "immigration reform" talking point for the 2024 election and buying more time until the number of illegals is so overwhelming the Democrats are going to come howling that the only solution to the problem they intentionally created is to grant citizenship to every last illegal. This would be the second time a GOP "amnesty" initiative had been mooted, AFAIK, during this Congress. Unbelievable. Though actually now sort of SOP. Note that "gun control" and marriage redefinition - oh and "infrastructure" - were already carried through by the Senate GOP. During an election cycle. Which is exactly what you'd expect from the group that baby-sat and coddled the broad front coup and dismantlement of our system undertaken to prevent, neuter, and then remove Trump. The head of the Israel Bar Association warned Monday against legal reforms being pushed by members of the expected new religious-right coalition that would sharply curb the authority of the courts and allow politicians to determine judicial appointments.
The horror, the horror. Supreme Court Judges are appointed by the President of Israel, from names submitted by the Judicial Selection Committee, which is composed of nine members: three Supreme Court Judges (including the President of the Supreme Court), two cabinet ministers (one of them being the Minister of Justice), two Knesset members, and two representatives of the Israel Bar Association. Appointing Supreme Court Judges requires a majority of 7 of the 9 committee members, or two less than the number present at the meeting. In other words, existing Supreme Court members and the Israel Bar Association have a majority of the votes on the committee, not people who have actually been elected. Remember, allowing elected representatives to choose judges is a way-station on the road to fascism! Posted by: The ARC of History! at December 05, 2022 05:20 PM (KCOCK) 149

As the symbol of the Roman Empire was a two-headed eagle, ours should be a two-headed vulture. Our "two" political parties are a single establishment that play-fights over hotbutton social issues, in a manner every bit as scripted as professional wrestling.
Our only hope at this point, in my opinion, is an Article V Convention that goes one of three ways: 1. Congressional Term Limits to shatter the stranglehold of the establishment. 2. Modifying the "first past the post" system to be less hostile to third parties, such as with runoff elections in cases where candidates in local or statewide races get less than 50%. This would make it easier for voters to vote their conscience in the general election, knowing that a runoff between the top two was likely. 3. Implementation of a national referendum system for a "Zero Confidence" referendum that could dismiss all elected and appointed officials in the Executive and Legislative branches with prejudice (where nobody who was removed in such a manner could run for office again), as well as all management-level Federal employees. Unconditional surrender is not a winning strategy. Republicans are useless at the federal level but our system is designed to insure that the federal level is not all we have.
Focus you energy and activities on local and state politics. Support only state representatives and governors that will aggressively defend states rights and won't be shy about engaging in nullification. Posted by: Ernie McCracken at December 05, 2022 05:46 PM (6tDeH) 237
The way I see it-
As long as McConnell or one of his pals is essentially in control of the Republican Party even winni9ng at a national level makes no difference. And voting against someone in the primary, like say Cornyn, never works cuz they're all hooked into the GOPe apparatus. So, the simplest idea is to turn to using the Democrat Party to put a conservative in place against a RINO candidate. This wouldn't be like Rush's operation whatever. A mass switch of Rep voters to Democrat could be enough to put a real conservative in place against the RINO by winning the primary. A clever conservative could also find enough points of agreement to possibly get a bunch of Dim votes anyway. The logistics of a mass switch might be too much to overcome, but the Democrats used to have a reasonably conservative faction until they went full commie. It's possible that the yellow dog Dims would vote for whoever was on the Democrat ticket. Even a conservative. The idea is to get enough conservatives in Congress of whatever party to block stuff. Otherwise, the only option is a third party, which...is very unlikely to succeed without massive help financially. Posted by: naturalfake at December 05, 2022 05:46 PM (KLPy8) 238

re filibuster: dems can probably use the reconciliation process to get what they want. they can almost always get what they want when a couple of would-be mccains want to get a word of praise from the ny times and the washington post and weekend arsewipe.

Posted by: IllTemperedCur at December 05, 2022 05:51 PM (n+4am) This has been a point of contention in our church. The Pope wants us to welcome the illegals with open arms, and open wallets. Many have noted that there are Catholic churches in Mexico, too, and the illegals are already citizens there. Maybe those churches need to step up. When the ship hits the sand and the junta decides to switch off cell phone towers to control the people, those thousands of LO commsats are going to be mighty handy to those the junta seeks to silence and eliminate.
