The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

One of the many deeply dishonest techniques the gun grabbers use is the demonization of weapons themselves, rather than the entirely appropriate condemnation of the individuals who misuse those weapons. They ascribe evil and magical properties to inanimate objects, as if the weapons themselves...in this case AR-15 pattern rifles...are sentient.

But they aren't, and an honest appraisal of the issue would lead to a condemnation of the individual, not the tool with which he commits his crime. In the aftermath of the many terrorist attacks of the last two generations, did anyone call for the banning of airplanes or trucks?

The reality is that anyone who desires to commit murder will find a tool. If firearms are not available then he will use a knife or a bomb or a truck or poison or a few gallons of gasoline. Think back to 1990 and the Happy Land Social Club mass murder. less than one gallon of gasoline and the evil man killed 87 people.

Here is Connecticut's entry into the stupidest senator competition, being either disingenuous or deeply stupid (or both!)...

Top Senate Dem Admits Biden 'Probably' Doesn't Have The Votes To Ram Through Gun Control In Lame-Duck Session

“But if you look at some of the most high-profile mass shootings in the last couple of years, many of those mass shooters bought the weapon just days before carrying out the crime,” he added. “And so, if those weapons were no longer commercially available, only in possession of those who had bought them previously, I think a lot of mass shootings would have been prevented.”

Well, that is partially true. If we violate the Constitution and prevent the sale of the tens of millions of AR-15 pattern rifles that Americans buy (because they are excellent rifles), then yes, probably a few shootings with those rifles would be prevented. But...and this is the problem with that sort of lying nonsense...would the murders have been prevented? No, most probably not. Those who are intent upon committing unspeakable crimes will find a way. And if some deeply disturbed maniac can't get an AR-15 rifle, he will get a pistol or a shotgun or a can of gasoline or a kitchen knife or an 80,000 lb. tractor-trailer or whatever is handy.

So the murders will be committed, just not with the evil, sentient "assault rifle." And that's perfectly okay with the elites who are terrified of the People and their power to overthrow a tyrannical government, by force of arms if necessary. And they are terrified of the People who can defend themselves from the depredations of those criminal evildoers without reliance on the government.

Gun Control has nothing to do with stopping crime. Otherwise there would be a concerted effort in the inner cities, where the vast majority of violent crime occurs, to track down and punish those miscreants who violate basic gun laws. It was done to amazing effect by Mayor Giuliani in NYC in the 1990s, so a proven template exists.

Gun Control has everything to do with removing the power of the People. Look to Nazi Germany, The Soviet Union, Cuba, Venezuela, and most recently communist China to see what happens when the People are disarmed.

Does anyone think that the communist party of China would have been able to lock down more than a billion people if the Chinese people were armed? The current protests would be much more threatening to Xi and his cronies if there were tens of millions of weapons available to the protesters.

A free society by definition must tolerate a certain degree of chaos. The availability of firearms creates that chaos in some places and in some circumstances. But the net benefit of a free People exercising their God-given natural rights to self defense dwarfs the purely theoretical improvement in safety, which is easily refuted by a casual review of the violence in places like Mexico, which has draconian gun control laws and an unbelievable murder rate!

Senator Murphy wants us to be serfs...compliant with government edicts, and subservient to government power.

As a free People, we refute his dictatorial desires with the simple exercise of our rights, and as long as we forcefully defend those rights, we will have the opportunity to remain free. But the day we give in is the day we become subjects.

76 42 Narcotic drugs are mostly illegal in the US and yet teenagers can order them on their phones and have them home delivered. If anything, govt banning of anything makes access to it easier through the unregulated black market.

clearly, we need to nationalize e-commerce. any order you make should get approvals from local, state, and federal authorities before it is allowed.

I commented last week about a Narcan "vending machine" that went up at the town's police department. It's free, holds 25 "units" (50 doses) and was cleaned out in 3 days after it was available for use. The town has less than 10K people.

The machine has been refilled a dozen times since the beginning of the month. There's no way there are that many people strung out on fentanyl here.

Indeed. Like the definition of everything conveniently changes with each passing day (marriage, recession, vaccine, birth sex -- now an infinite list of "gender" mental illnesses, and mental illness itself) -- semi-automatic weapon is the new "assault weapon."

154 I try hard not to jump after every announcement about shit like this. So much is BS, trial balloons, and flat out disinformation.
But...
The more government pushes nonsensical crap and bogus "laws," and the more they themselves ignore existing laws (the border, etc), the more the whole fabric of government gets ignored. We need to have government that works, and is, at least at some level, that is sane and accepted by the people.
The more we move away from this, the more dangerous it becomes.

Well, that's because overall, Marvel simply has a better, deeper and wider bench of heroes and villains than DC.

There are something like 10 heroes and villains combined in the DC stable of characters that could even register a blip, and those stories have been told already.

Cheap debt due to ZIRP led corporations to lard up their debt loads in order to acquire other companies or engage in stock buybacks to bolster executive stock options and bonuses.

The increase in interest rates to more normal levels though kills that strategy and kills profits as deleveraging occurs. It will get worse before it gets better. Inflation initially masks the effect of corporate debt via depreciating debt but eventually the earnings drop as your product becomes unaffordable to the masses. I think the rightsizing of the entertainment industry is going to be painful to a lot of folks working in those places.

That they don’t really assign magical sentience to inanimate objects, and are willing to say anything no matter how outrageous and dishonest to achieve their objective of disarming and destroying our people and nation? And their lies are working, so they keep repeating them.

Dismissing their lies as just a bunch of kooky nonsense, as if you can reason evil people out of a position that they’re deliberately taking in bad faith, is the wrong approach. They don’t care about your arguments, and they don’t have to care because they control the narrative and you have no power.

261 Gun control laws are usually composed by firearms experts who gained their knowledge watching very dumb movies and reading the NY Times. Brought up here before, the NY SAFE act oozes stupidity. A Walther .22 short or .32 Long OSP target pistol is banned because the magazine is in front of the trigger guard. Can't find a 7 round magazine to fit your pistol? No problem, just load seven in the existing mag and you'll be OK until you're not. If I was permitted in NY and caught with the full 8 rounds in my .25 Beretta, off I go. Might as well have a full blown battle rifle slung over my shoulder.

266 Actually Venezuela's disarmament was the most recent, not China's. Hugo Chavez outlawed civilian ownership of guns in 2012 in an attempt to curb crime. The law took effect in 2013, and the penalty is a 20-year prison sentence.

In 2017, Nicholas Maduro (who took over after Chavez's death) re-armed around 400,000 of his supporters as a personal militia, to be deployed against protesters who were demonstrating against him.

Five years. Only five years between disarming the general population to arming their supporters against their political enemies.

It's worse than that. What, functionally, is the difference between an AR and. mini-14? There are tons of intermediate and full power hunting rifles with detachable magazines.

Ban ARs and you won't have people shot by ARs - they'll be shot with something else.

Where is the adult in the room, preferably among GOP leadership or a national news figure, to remind these usurpers that they are part of a LIMITED government, and things like rail strikes, marriage (bathrooms, sports, etc) are NOT among the powers delegated to the inferior feds by the superior States?
