The Saturday Night Joke

Guy and his Rottweiler Gustav go into a bar.

Bartender says "This is a respectable bar, we do NOT allow animals in here!"

Man says "This is no ordinary animal, this dog Gustav, is a talking dog!"

Bartender says "Prove it!"

Man says "Gustav, how does sandpaper feel?"
Gustav the dog says "Ruff! Ruff! Ruff!"
Man says "Gustav, what's on the top of a house?"
Gustav the dog says "Roof! Roof! Roof!"
Man says "Gustav, who was the greatest baseball player of all time?"
Gustav the dog says "Routh! Routh! Routh!"

Bartender says "I have enough of this nonsense, you are both fakers, now get out of my bar!"

Man says "You're making a big mistake, but we will leave if that's going to be your attitude!"

The man and the dog walk to the door, but just before they exit, the dog turns back and looks at the bartender and says "Would you accept Joe DiMaggio as an alternative answer?" (H/T Hrothgar)

You either Love it. Or you don't get it. Ice fishing.

In many parts of the country, the temperatures are dropping, and the lakes and rivers are already starting to freeze up. If you haven't already thought about heading out for some ice fishing, odds are you'll be thinking about it soon. And we've got just the thing to help set the mood for hardwater angling to begin this year. This hilarious video comes to us from the brilliant minds behind the YouTube channel "You Betcha." These guys are masters of parody, especially when it comes to satire related to outdoor pursuits. In this video, they're breaking down the three types of ice fishermen. Yep, there are three of them.

One of our national nightmares is over. Soccer.

U.S. — After the men's national team was dealt a crushing 1-3 loss by the Netherlands, the United States expressed deep relief to no longer have to go on pretending to like soccer.

"Hoo-boy, I didn't think I could keep that up another day," said local man Aaron Bronson. "Thank God for the Dutch!"

After twelve grueling days of trying to get excited about a ball mostly being passed backward, celebrations broke out across America as its World Cup run came to a close. "I know we only have to fake being soccer fans every four years, but it's been a brutal couple of weeks," said local bar owner Greg Jaster. "We scored three goals in SIX HOURS of soccer! And I have it on good authority from a Brazilian buddy of mine that our last goal was actually an accident. I'm trying to be a good patriot and cheer for our team, but come on.

I wonder how CBD would order this drink. Neat? Shaken? Stirred? PILK.

This holiday season, no one is safe. For those who aren't quite as hip with the kids as I am (being one myself), the disgusting mixture of Pepsi and milk (termed 'pilk') has been a bit of a meme in recent years, stemming from its humble origins on Laverne and Shirley.

I love Home Alone. I don't care about Harry & Marv's injuries. Do you?

It’s been 30 years since the Wet Bandits made the incomprehensible decision to go another 12 rounds with Kevin McCallister, in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. In a recent interview with People, reflecting on his experience filming the beloved sequel (which reeled in $359 million at the box office), Joe Pesci shared for the first time that one of his stunts while playing Harry resulted in an IRL injury.

“In addition to the expected bumps, bruises, and general pains that you would associate with that particular type of physical humor, I did sustain serious burns to the top of my head during the scene where Harry’s hat is set on fire,” he said. “[But] I was fortunate enough to have professional stuntmen do the real heavy stunts.”

Them there is "Fighting Words", Karen Genius Award Winner.

DECEMBER 1--A Florida Man is facing a felony charge for allegedly striking a female Dollar Tree employee who called his wife a “Karen” during a dispute last night “over grocery bags,” according to court records.

Police were dispatched around 8:20 PM Wednesday to the discount store in Clearwater following an alleged battery on the 20-year-old worker.

According to investigators, Genesis Sanchez Canales, the Dollar Tree employee, got into an argument with a female customer over grocery bags. The customer eventually “began to videotape the victim due to the verbal argument,” an arrest affidavit states.

In response to being filmed, Canales called the woman a “Karen.” At this point, cops allege, the customer’s husband “open hand slapped the victim to her left cheek.”

When officers responded to the store, they arrested Jason Allen Dobyns, 41. Since Dobyns has a prior battery conviction, he was charged with a felony for allegedly striking Canales.

That's an abomination, not a Radler. You could come close by mixing Sprite and a Hefeweizen. It's great during a hot day of biking (hence the name) or hiking.

99 Modified Ice Fishing.

Get a good ol' pontoon boat, construct your ice fishing cabin up on the deck/platform. Cut in and build a hinged "hole in the deck" for the ice fishing access. Drill your hole in the ice, slide the pontoons around till the hole and deck access are aligned, drive in an ice augur or two to anchor or two to hold the rig in place.

Properly insulated and heated, the warmth of the cabin would be a good 20" above the ice, no worries about melting through. And at season's end? Unlike a shack or your truck, you won't care if it's in the water...it's a boat! Just drop the outboard and driver 'er back to the boat ramp and your waiting trailer.

I'd damn sure have a good heater, a compact recliner, a stove, a bunk, and a few shelves of books in there. And a porta potty just outside the cabin, behind a privacy screen. Oh, and bourbon. And cigars. (might even remember to have some ice fishing tackle n' bait, even?)

I'd like to see them do a continuation with Macaulay Culkin playing as either a dad who leaves a kid home, or as a thief who's now getting back everything he gave as a kid. The second appeals a little more because he could disarm traps that were like the ones he set as a kid only to fall into or trigger something that the first trap hid.

I'd TiG weld on some pontoon length sections of 3/16 thick by 2" wide aluminum under each 'toon. With a bit of a "sleigh curl" abaft the transom of each pontoon. Would make for an easy slide from the trailer to ice, without hurting the relatively thin hulls themselves.

I'd also augur in a couple holes about 50 ft. from the bow of one hull and the stern of the other. Drop a heavy mushroom anchor through each, till they hit bottom. Secure each line to the corresponding hull. Boat goes to floating, you don't want it drifting away.

You can add one of those quiet Honda inverter generators, which give a clean sine-wave power, and run your electrics on the boat, just fine. Laptop, Starlink, AoS, a Moron would be set for the season! BTW, shop around, there are 12 ft. and 16 ft. hulls to be found. No need for a 24 footer, I think?

The way it was explained to me, bicyclists in the summer want a tasty refreshment (without getting snockered.)

Hefe Weissen on tap is particularly fantastic, and I tried a gazillion beers "over there". A Pils is a close 2nd, very good beer. What's ironic, in Germany beer drinkers are sort of looked down on, as sort of lower class. They are no slouches when it comes to wine making. I like the idea of wine, but it just never spoke to me. 205 Zappa bought the "Log Cabin", a large wood home once owned by Tom Mix, at the head of Laurel Canyon. Huge party station, with all sorts of scrofulous characters hanging out, coming and going. Lots of groupies, and the "GTOs" aka "girls together outrageously". He married a smokeshow named Gail Slotkin.

There's some interesting nexus between the Log Cabin and a lot of the 60s music scene. The bars where the bands played were very small, and they needed a "scene" as well. Can't have a Hippie band without a bunch of hippies. Vito Paulekas and Carl Fanzoni, along with a bunch of chicks, were the answer. You've seen them in countless 60s documentaries, anytime there was a "happening", these guys were there, cavorting around.

208 Zappa much > soccer. I went to a Zappa concert when I was in college in 1971. My ears are still ringing, but it was REALLY great music.

Soccer could be a good game to watch, except:
1. Way too much drama when opposing players fight for the ball and someone goes down. All that rolling around and head grasping...
2. All the yammering at the referee each time he calls a foul or cards someone.
3. Adding time at the end of each half to accomodate the goal celebrations, bringing in replacement players, and being pissy with the ref when he tells the players where to put the ball to resume play after a foul.
4. Hand balls and offside.

Posted by: Not That Chuck at December 03, 2022 11:30 PM (Yf1pk)

209 The music of Frank Zappa is the music of a 1000 musical ideas being birthed all at once, explored, expanded upon, discarded, rejuvenated, examined again, refined and re-interpreted, all within the space of the song itself.

Sometimes this works, sometimes this doesn't work, it's certainly not boring stuff.

So many people get stranded out on chunks of ice the fire department had a hovercraft to go recover those people.

Posted by: JEM at December 03, 2022 11:55 PM (qJIlm)

243 Anything prior to about 1985 could probably handle submersion, with the exception of bearings and gearboxes.

Modern electronics, gazillions of sensors, connectors, ECU, it likely ends up as a continuous whack-a-mole of weird engine faults and inoperative stuff. Even fresh water is going to leave lots of contaminates inside electrical connectors.

The USN has an involved procedure for resuscitation of electronics submerged in salt water, lots of solvents and distilled water flushes.

Water itself doesn't hurt electronics generally. "Let's see if it still works", before it is thoroughly dried, well that does.

Soccer has far too little scoring - but more importantly, *very few actual high probability scoring events*.

Hockey has a very good mix: nearly constant scoring possibilities - yet relatively few goals actually scored. Thus, high leverage and drama for a higher % of playing time.

I've explained why good hockey games have no counterpart in teams sports for years using this basic approach. Though of course hockey is 89% better 1) in person 2) if you have some familiarity with the game 3) have actually played.

Don't even get me started. 1971 vehicle. Pull the headlight knob, you'd complete a low amperage circuit, which would close a relay which would then transfer full battery-circuit energy directly to the headlights and taillights.

2022 vehicle. Rotate the headlight control (if not on "auto"), which tells the computer to energize a tiny micro linear motor, which closes the circuit on a relay, which sends full 12 v. battery voltage to the headlights and taillights.

EVERY control in the modern vehicle is telling the accursed computer to send a command to a microswitch, a linear motor or a magnetic contact, to effect the act that the driver, muscle and mechanical switch did in the '71 model. Thousands of more dollars and untold complexity, to save a few ounces and pounds, only to gain that and more, in the "crash safety" structure, or worse.. ginormous batteries to power the pig of a beast.

Some spots much faster than others and it's also time dependent, but she let our 16yo daughter bust her 100mph cherry earlier this year.

Tesla mapping optimizes for total charge time so it's usually 3 20 min charges, could do it two long ones. It's worked really well so far.

A lifetime with cats. Exceptions exist in every breed.

Best odds, a Yellow Tabby, Grey Tabby, most Saimese, and the other spotted or striped colors.

Oddly though, Scamp (13lb Maine Coon) and Bonnie (6lb. black kitty), are also both super loving Lap Catzillas and very "into" their people.

But for SMART and Human/Dog hybrid? Go with the yellow/grey tabby variants. Odds are good, but the Goods are odd ! LOL

331 Smartest cat I ever met was this big neighborhood medium-haired tabby dude who just walked right up to people and started yapping at them. He knew which houses were friendly to him and would go up to the front door and pound on it until they let him in. He eventually glommed on to me (which I loved). When I'd have people over, he'd go sit on the footstool and stare at them until they rubbed his head. He had so many vocalizations. Sad thing is, he loved to hang out under cars on the street -- no, he didn't get run over, but he got horrible cancer from the petrochemicals he must've been ingesting. I had him euthanized and it went as well as it could, but when I got the diagnosis, I was devastated. I'll always miss him.
