Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

HT Lin-duh.jpg

(H/T Lin-duh)

***

Mornin' Horde. I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday. Before we get into the good old fashioned Prayer Revial, just a couple of rules to remind you about.

1) Opine and/or bloviate away until KT arrives with a new thread later this morning.
2) No running with sharp objects or gravy.
3) Be kind to one another even to the trolls.
4) Have a wonderful weekend. Or not. It's up to you.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:
9/6 – Jewells45 had bad news and needs prayers. Her CT scan indicated several nodes on her lungs, too many to count. It is very probable that she has lung cancer. Her husband is devastated, and she is scared to death.
11/1 Update – The brain MRI was negative (thank God!) and radiation treatments and the first infusion are set up for the week of 11/7. She also sends her thanks for the prayers, that got her through the initial shock and several procedures. Please keep praying for strength for her as she faces chemo and radiation.
11/18 Update – Jewells45’s first chemo treatment went find. The only issue was the steroids – they gave her a horrid headache.

11/1 – Euro could use some prayers, as she is hospitalized. She is out of ICU, but says her (6 broken) ribs hurt like heck and she is trying to prevent pneumonia. She sends thanks for the prayers.
11/5 Update – Euro is home from ICU and her border collie is staying by her side. He knows she is hurting.

11/2 – That Guy What Always Says Yeah Buddy asked for prayers from the Horde for his wife, who is in the ICU and getting a ventilator tube to help with her breathing. She caught the type A flu from him, and he cannot forgive himself for passing the flu to her. He is very worried about her.
11/12 Update – His wife is home from the hospital. She’d been released already once, but then had to go back in. She had shingles and a blood infection. Home health and a physical therapist are supposed to visit next week.

11/5 – Lola requested prayers for Phil, who is suffering from renal failure as a result of a rare autoimmune liver disease. He has displayed kindness, humor, and patience throughout his life, and could use peace and relief from pain and anxiety. Also prayers for strength and comfort for his wife and daughter are requested.

11/5 – Lola also asked for prayers for Lorraine, who lost her husband suddenly. They had a long and loving marriage even as he suffered severe, chronic illness for decades. Prayers that he rests in peace would also be greatly appreciated.

11/5 – Troyriser asks the Horde for prayers. His wife of 15 years (and the love of his life) suddenly and unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack last month. She died in his arms, and he is struggling with nearly overwhelming grief. Prayers for strength to get through this would be appreciated.

11/5 – Wenda asked for prayers for her husband He’s struggled with Parkinson’s and dementia for several years. Two months ago, he just crashed, physically and in terms of his grip on reality. She had to agree to place his in memory care. Now he has taken another big step down, and cannot make sense of what is happening to him. He comes up with stories of horrible things he must have done to deserve this. This week they will be discussing palliative care and hospice. Any prayers are welcome.

11/5 – DD is a prayer warrior in the Horde. He and his wife have offered to drive to pray with people in the Flagstaff/Phoenix/Prescott AZ area. He is also in Tucson every other week, so could pray with people there, too. Please email me (Annie’s Stew) if you would like to get in contact with him.

11/6 – FortWorthMike sent an update on his grand-niece Chloe. She is the toddler we have been praying for who needs a kidney transplant. He wanted to let the group know that she still needs a transplant, but has made progress. She is home again now, happy and talking and running around. She still has daily dialysis, and continued prayers are much appreciated. They have helped her tremendously.

11/7 – Sven could use some prayers for healing of his incisive hernia on his right quadrant by his ribcage.

11/9 – Screaming in Digital asked for prayers for her aunt, who is dying, and her mom, who may not get there in time to say goodbye.

11/12 – grammie winger asked for prayers for peace, comfort, and wisdom for a difficult situation.

11/12 – Browndog asked for prayers for his mother, who just passed away. She finished her race at 101, having lived a full life.

11/12 – Cat Ass Trophy asked for prayers for his mother-in-law, who was hospitalized with sepsis after catching the flu while visiting his family. She had said she’d rather die than not see her grandkids, but it would be nice to not have it be prophetic. Prayers for a complete recovery are important since sepsis can cause organ failure. So far, she is improving, and they are getting a good assessment of where she is, health-wise.

11/12 – Sua Sponte sent his thanks for the Horde’s prayers. We had prayed for his friend, whose sister-in-law had been murdered. All worked out well, with no issues at the funeral, and her parents were able to attend. Also, she had life insurance, so her sons will be provided for. Thank you all so much.

11/15 – jewells45 asked for prayers. Her friend’s niece died in a car crash, at age 25. Please pray for her family.

11/17 – Screaming in Digital requests prayers for her upcoming move from WY back to the south. She’s thankful to be moving closer to her family and for a new job that should be a great fit. Many of the rough places have already been made smooth, but she still needs wisdom, mental and physical strength, and patience for another cross-country move. She also needs prayers that she can sell a car before the move (or a workable plan if not) and that she will be focused and productive in her new job.
11/23 Update – She sold the car today, with a major assist from her wonderful stepson. Many thanks to the Horde for the prayers!

11/22 – BacktoGA’s father received a bad PET scan showing the thyroid cancer is aggressive and spreading across his body. Please pray for a speedy recovery via radiation and chemo.

11/19 – P requests prayers for her friend K, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The doctors have also mentioned cysts on her pancreas and lesions on her liver. She will be having surgery on 11/28. She has a husband, 4 sons, and a large local youth group all depending on her.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

Romans 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

11 Why can we not win in 2024? Why can we not achieve 270?

Posted by: AnnaS at November 26, 2022 08:57 AM

It's a matter of Electoral Vote math. Just look at the 2020 map. There was a path to 270 if the GOP flipped GA, AZ and I think NM? Without AZ, there is no path to 270.

This is assuming that no state with Democrat Governor will allow their state to vote for the Republican candidate. Which is a good assumption. Which is why AZ was so important and why the Deep State stole it.

25 You can hear it right from the source. It's not so much a conspiracy but a well-orchestrated plan and the vast majority of the world is ignoring it.

The great reset is happening right now.

Posted by: JackStraw at November 26, 2022 08:48 AM

Yep. Ushered in by the first phase of their plan, The Long March Through the Institutions. This has been a long game they have been orchestrating for decades. While people who have been trying to warn everyone about it have been called conspiracy kooks.

Control the media and every institution of information dissemination, control the schools to brainwash the last two generations of Americans, control "entertainment" industry to brainwash further, control the healthcare and energy industries for more control of the masses, control the voting system to guarantee election victories and then the dagger is the massive influx of illegals (left-wing voters) to add to the brainwashed millennials and Gen-Z-ers to cement control of the electorate for generations.

29
In the days after the 2020 election the Pennsylvania state legislature requested the head of Dominion to come and answer some questions. He ignored them. The legislature then wrote a bill to correct some of the blatant practices which skewed the election. The (D) Governor vetoed. The *only* chance any (R) has of getting to 270 is right through Pennsylvania. Trump *barely* won it in 2016 by a hundred thousand votes.

So who got elected a couple weeks back? Another (D) Governor. There will be no reform in this state. Philadelphia - and the encroachment of former Philly residents into the surrounding suburbs - will decide every election. So cheer on DeSantis or Trump all you want. It doesn't matter.

Same with Michigan. The opportunity to flip it red was obviously there, as Donald Trump won by 11,000 votes in 2016. But then the Deep State fortified it with mail-in-voting in 2018 and had a huge blue wave of Karen Democrats in office, most importantly as Governor, Secretary of State and Attorney General. They then further fortified Michigan for generations with the Proposal that passed which basically made legal every Democrat voting trick (ballot harvesting, no Voter ID, mail-in-ballots, etc).

The Left has thousands of organizations, with massive network of funding, across the country which have been focusing and executing this stuff for decades. Meanwhile the Right has... nothing. And while the Left goes all-in 100% support behind their candidates, the Right is split and fighting amongst themselves.

Crowded stores! Happy Happy Retailers!!!Crowds very close to pre-pandemic levels. The pandemic is OO VV EE RR !! But is it? What do you think?

I think something is wrong. Burnout? Yet people keep posting they have covid and covid again and "I am really sic with covid" and no talk of what this can actually do to people.

Yeah....maybe as people get it multiple times, regardless of vaccination status, and don't die multiple times, they realize it might not be the worstest disease evar?

I mask all of the time in public. I do not care that where I live I am pretty much the only one.

The pandemic is not over. When it is over is a matter of science, not belief. More than 75% of communities are at substantial or high community transmission levels, even with the very minimal testing anyone is currently doing. Acting as if it is over and done with will only prolong it.

We're winding up year three of a five+ year event. The result of a cultivated culture of short attention spans, curated by those with evil intent.

That always annoyed me. Leftist intellectuals were always perfectly straightforward about the Gramscian March... Far from hiding it, they bragged and gloated about it the entire time. And it was happening according to plan, plain as day. Particularly toward the end, as everything came to a head and accelerated toward full-spectrum institutional capture, we could watch one institution after another go openly Marxist on a weekly basis. To the point where Salvation Army bellringers are handing out pamphlets saying "cough up your money for racial justice you white piece of garbage."

When people say "Listen up - we're coming for you employing methods X, Y, and Z to accomplish ends A, B, and C," and all of it plays out exactly as they said, it's not a "theory," it's just a fact.

When your enemy tells you what they intend to do you can either ignore them or become proactive.

Fortunately, I have enough money to spend on retrofitting my hot water system into the most miserly system possible. On a timer, in-line 110 heaters that provide about eight minutes of 104 degree shower temperatures. For one hour a day. Annual savings at current cost of home heating oil - about $800.00 - cost of system, about $800.00 as a DIY project. Next year I start saving money.

Actually, it is over. A while back, someone stated that COVID is now going to be seasonal just like influenza. And since it is now well understood that COVID is about as deadly as influenza, science says the pandemic is over. The Plandemic was never based on science and was a cult/belief from the beginning.

Which is why I think Musk taking over Twitter is so important. For years we have all known that Twitter was a tool the left was using to silence dissent and push the left's narratives. We thought it was impregnable and resigned ourselves to being saddled with their disinformation system.

And in one day everything changed. Musk ripped off the cover and is exposing to the world what a corrupt and malignant shit hole it was and what its real purpose had become. And there is a whole lot more information coming if Musk is to be believed.

And now our side is free to use it to spread the truth and the left is freaking out. Losing the ability to control the narrative is deadly to them and they know it. People are beginning to fight back all over. The war is just starting, we are behind but we haven't lost.

A Communist party official goes to inspect a collective potato farm. He orders to be brought to the head farmer and barks at him to report on how the potato crop was this year.

The farmer is shaking and nervous. He knows he must give the official good news.

"The crop this year? It was unbelievable!" he says. "We had more potatoes than we knew what to do with. Potatoes everywhere, as far as the eye can see! Why, if we piled all the potatoes on top of one another, they would reach up all the way to heaven, all the way to God!"

The Communist official looks disapprovingly at the farmer. "Don’t you know this is the USSR?" he asks him. "We don’t have these foolish notions of God anymore. That’s just a silly superstition. There is no God."

The farmer looks at him levelly and says "That’s ok. There are no potatoes either."

Have he had a "drug holiday"? We used to get heavily medicated patients that were very unwell. Often the best course of action was to detox them from everything and see what was really there, and start over, or not start at all. Examples: kids on medications that were prescribed for ADHD that were more hyper and disorganized than ever, people who were clearly experiencing psychiatric side effects from antidepressants that were then prescribed neuroleptics and mood stabilizers.
We had a depressed man, who was depressed for a reason that would have responded to time and love and talk, who became psychotic from his antidepressant. "Detoxing" him in a clinical setting was probably necessary due to the psychosis and due to the outpatient people's fear of being responsible if it went wrong. It went without a hitch. Often the secret to dealing with depression is teasing out the old-fashioned "precipitating event"

These days insurance companies and CMS push for a quick titration of medication and an early discharge. Mental health care is a mess.

104 Same with Michigan.

The trick might be to force prescribers to go back to the old ways of presenting the patients and families with a cost-benefit analysis and detailed consent forms for every single medication. By the time I retired, this was only required for clozaril, and you could not get it without the consent forms and the requisite blood work on file.

This must be done in a clinical setting. No one would say "stop the medications on your own" especially after years. In the case of the depressed guy on a single antidepressant and a splash of risperdal, neither med was long standing, and we had complete assurance that the guy never had a previous psychotic episode and was not ever suicidal.

I suggest presenting the "team" with a pile of research on drug holidays. These would not be recommended for people with non-drug induced manias or psychosis. When these categories stop medication, disaster can strike.

Be sure to put together a complete history of medications with dates and dosages.

138 Pharmacists are much more knowledgeable than doctors about drug interactions and side effects because that is their only job, but most states wont let them prescribe drugs except in extremely limited circumstances. And most wont do it because of insurance issues.

We used to sit down with patients and families and multiple page forms going over potential side effects and making sure people understood. It was sometimes hard to do and required significant time on both ends, but I don't think it was ever unnecessary.

159 What does the horde think: mental illness Vs demon possession. Both real and different things? Or often one and the same?

We are up to eight billion people on the planet. Is the number of demons finite or has it kept up? The apostles went about proclaiming the gospel, and in Acts we read of specific exorcism events. Jesus told the disciples that they would "bind spirits" and in eschatological readings there is a day when the "spirits will be unchained". The historian Plutarch observed that following the Great Commission, that oracles stop speaking (demonic events).

The Scriptural and historical evidences suggest that demons are bound and I'm guessing not acting in the direct ways that was routine up until 60AD or so.

Romans 1 spells out what I call the Road to Reprobation which can probably map out what you are witnessing and calling "demon possession". So it is indeed spiritual, but humans are pretty evil outside the work of the Paraclete and many don't need the demonic boost.

But yes, I am open to the idea that some people can still be demonically possessed - I'm not sure what that looks like though.

174 I'm not very good about posting here. It was a very quiet Thanksgiving - just me. On one hand, I missed the kids a lot, on the other, the break was extremely needed. One thing that happens to me a lot is that if I am really overdue for some rest, I end up getting sick on the "break" which is what happened this time, and so I spent half of yesterday feeling awful. So much of my concentration is just on getting stuff done that I haven't had time to ponder the "bigger picture" much, but some of that started to come in last night and it made me really sad. He's completely lying when he says he wants things to go smoothly - he wants them to go his way, and gets angry with me for not rolling over and doing them the way he wants. I'm tired of that too, and the idea that he basically wants to split the kids is heartbreaking. There's tons to be grateful for despite everything, and I've been trying to remember that and document it as well... gives me something to think about and write about.

There's the well discussed concept today of how puberty blockers and other powerful drugs are impairing the development of kids who don't have a clue who they are.

I think a similar argument can be made for the early prescribing of powerful psych drugs to kids who exhibit unwanted behaviors.

The human brain is so poorly understood, and research isn't really making progress. For most people, psych drugs AT BEST give them an opportunity to function well enough to get along, and if a 12/13 year old is on them, what else is being done to allow that child to develop? To grow as a human being? If it's just the drugs, one lesson the child learns is that drugs are the answer. Which is a bad answer to arrive at.

Posted by: BurtTC at November 26, 2022 10:21 AM (NWBBy)

184 the problem with that idea is that, according to Scripture, it very well bumps up against the whole "reviling Angelica Majesties" of Jude 1:8. Even Michael, the Archangel, did not dare pronounce judgement against Satan, but, instead, asked the Lord to rebuke Satan.

Interesting point. Actually all of Jude is worth considering. I am particularly drawn to v24 "Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling..." A reminder that temptation is ever present and without continual Divine intervention against our nature to surrender to temptation, we would be like Adam and even the fallen angels.

The unregenerate don't have this, and the reprobate are doomed to always be led to the grave by temptation.

Many drugs are not approved for kids, I think, but this may have changed, that only prozac and lexapro are approved for use in kids. In kids it's very important to seek out the reason for depression and work on that. Often it's an issue with family and friends that turns into a grief issue. Yeah, it can be time consuming, but sometimes it's just correcting a misunderstanding. You can't choose, IMO, to treat the symptoms and skip the cause.

Most of my experience is with adults, and I opted for adults as too many parents wanted a quick solution to a complex issue that required a deep dive into why the kid was depressed to begin with. I've seen it done successfully when they were used to deal with severe cases, but I have also seen it done because the family or even the patient demanded it. You'd be surprised by how many people want unneeded medications with no street value. Some podcast pundit did something on mental illness chic, and I think we're there.

I have a major pet peeve with even CALLING it depression. To the extent it can be separated, I think it's important to find out what's "causing" one to feel the way they do, and if there IS a cause, we should call it something else.

If the person is depressed and there is no underlying cause, that's when medication are perhaps the only real option.

Otherwise, child or adult, find out what's wrong, and deal with that. Sometimes it's a temporary problem in their life, sometimes it's related to trauma, current or past.

Also found a 1962 Ranchero I was going to buy if the Tundra fell through. Cool car/truck but I don't need another project car in the shop. I need to get to work without freezing to death.

215 Well the neighbors have decided to part with their Toyota Tundra for a paltry $800.00. Oil change, new battery and a set of tires and I just gots me 100,000 mile to go truck for next to nothing. Their kids get a christmas and all is well. I can now stop taking my doorless Jeep Cherokee (hunting and camping rig) to work. Those 14° mornings can really make for a long 8 miles.

I recently picked up a a '99 Jeep Cherokee with 80k miles, straight, clean interior, no dripping, fresh tires, flawless paint for $100 and the price of a new battery (more than twice the purchase price of the car)

And this can also be harder to determine. A lot of times people find it embarrassing to admit why they are miserable. And you also have the people who want a medical diagnosis to essentially kick dirt over the mess they made all by themselves, an excuse for their actions, and in extreme cases a "get out of jail free card".

This is why I often assume when someone says they have bipolar disorder, what they really mean is they have a personality disorder. Which the medical profession generally knows it can't treat.

But the person who goes around telling everyone they have bipolar, what I'm hearing is "wait until these meds stop 'working' and this thing goes off the rails again."

I love my Cherokee. That thing has never failed me. You got a hell of a deal there. I'm at almost 200,000 on mine and I am not nice to it at all. About 2 miles of my trip to work is pretty fun dirt roads and I wheel the hell out of it on those trails.
I fell in love with the early 90's Cherokees in Kuwait in 93 when we were using them to pull HMMVEEs out of the sand.

Sometimes the reason families are unwilling to get on board with addressing the underlying problem is because they ARE the underlying problem.

And even if we take blame out of the equation, the question is, if we send this person back into that environment, what's changed about the environment that means it's possible for them to function better there?

In families it's often much easier to say "this person is the problem," rather than "we have a problem."

Family, and patients for that matter, should not force your hand to do something not quite ethical. You can ladle drugs into someone as it they were wheaties or chicken soup, but that will not solve the problem or resolve the trauma

Some people do use a diagnosis and a brief trial of medication to excuse themselves of bad behavior with unfortunate success. The idea that they ran up bills, cheated on their spouse, or did something else that led to negative consequences "because I was sick", is more common than you think.

As for hiding events or trauma, I always made it clear that the hospital could not tell them things without consent, but that they could leave us messages with whatever information they thought we should know.

I saw it everyday in my profession also. The alleged workers comp injury turns into a psychological addiction to opiates . The pill mill WC doctors of course were the main problem.

On that note regard to my kidney stones, when I asked my doctor whether he could prescribe 2 or 3 MS Contin pills ( morphine) in case I have an attack , he said he understood but they don't prescribe opiates at all. One of the most painful conditions in the world and they won't prescribe pain medication on a one dose emergency basis.

It's always all or nothing with bureaucratic solutions.
