Heh. Funny you should mention that. A friend came by this morning, with a six volt Delco generator off an old tractor, and the matching? regulator, which was bad. I looked in my file drawer full of regulators, and Lo! and Behold! there was a brand new six volt Delco regulator in its original box. All the same as the original, except marked "positive" and not "negative". So I called my go-to auto electric guy, who has been in the biz for 40-odd years, and he said, "Peon, it really doesn't matter. Generators and regulators don't care what's printed on them. If you flash the field for negative ground, it will generate negative ground, and if you flash the field for positive ground, it will generate positive ground. Just touch "bat" to "gen" on the regulator for a second, and you are good to go. And that is the exact right regulator you need."

99 76 not me, but just got off the phone with my middle child who went to dinner with my mom, my stepfather and the middle child’s new boyfriend. After 10 minutes of hysterical laughter where I couldn’t understand a word she was saying, she blurted it out. Apparently, as they exited the country club, my mom had a little gas incident, two actually, and tried to shuffle her feet to pretend it was her shoes. So then I was laughing, and J just says in his calm southern voice “well, that ‘s something” which made us laugh all over again.

Maybe we are the weird family members. My poor mom.

145 Publius. Where do you live? (About).

I've been needing to sell my parents Ethan Allen grandfather clock. Seems to me about 1500 bucks, back in the 80s. Works perfectly.

I used to set it up, so the precise moment at the top of the hour, to the milli-second, was between the tune, and the striking of the hour. Pretty amazing for a mechanical movement. It would hold this for the entire week, until wind time again.

You could ... set your watch to it. Unfortunately there is little to no market for them. If I get $100 to $150, I'd be doing good.

146 Given the day, I want to make a comment about Thanks, and gratitude. A number of people have mentioned in this and previous threads their thankfulness for what they have in life, however humble.

It was one year ago today that I stumbled into the ER, and was diagnosed as experiencing a subdural hematoma. I do not really recall that much about the moment...just hazy bits.

So far as that goes, I DO recall the admitting ER Doc leaning over me, and explaining what was happening, in very clear, and yet compassionate terms, what was happening, and what needed to be done *NOW*.. I will never, ever, forget that moment.

In the final analysis, everything ended as well as it might. This will sound like an exaggeration, but at that moment, it was as if an angel in a surgical cap, mask and gown was holding my hand.

A month or two later, when we lost Redc4c1 to a similar situation, the point was especially made.

Be thankful folks. When it seems that life has turned on you, go outside. Look at the stars.

Yep - we recently moved into a home half the size of the previous one. Not only did we have all of our own stuff but also our parents' and, in my case, my grandparents furniture and keepsakes.
