The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. Psalm 136:1

Quote II

I don’t hate anyone, but at this juncture the Biden Administration I think is best known for its world-class acuity according to the polls, most Americans wouldn’t trust President Biden to salt the fries at mcdonald’s. Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA)

Quote III

"Whether it be in the form of monuments, statues and now something so important here in Nashville… where does it end?" Kid Rock

Perhaps our Canadian Morons can chime in. Is the housing bubble in Canada about to burst?

The Bank of Canada estimates half of Canadian homeowners who took out a variable-rate mortgage with fixed payments have already hit their trigger rate.

Hitting a trigger rate means a mortgage holder is no longer paying down any principal on their loan and is only covering interest — a key point that can prompt the lender to force a homeowner to make additional payments.

For a stripper chasin' and coke snortin' piece of scum, Hunter Biden certainly had time to get into some cushy money making operations.

EXC: Hunter Biden Owned Financial Stake In Digital Banking Platform For Undocumented Migrants, Introduced Founder To Joe Biden While Company Received Mexican Government’s Endorsement.

ePlata, a digital banking platform partnered with the Mexican government to enable migrants to send and receive remittances, has deep financial and personnel ties to Hunter Biden.

The fintech startup describes itself as a “multi-balance, multi-currency digital wallet and payment ecosystem” and was founded by one of Hunter Biden’s long-time business partners Jeff Cooper. Documents unearthed from Hunter Biden’s hard drive also reveal that the president’s son held an 8.25 percent stake in ePlata through his company Owasco LLC, though it is unclear if he still retains the position.

Several individuals who have financial ties to Hunter Biden, however, have recently been appointed to the company’s Board of Directors.

Senate Antitrust Panel Announces Ticketmaster Hearings Following Botched Taylor Swift Sale

Ticketmaster and Live Nation control about 70% of the live music and ticketing markets

Following a frustrating Ticketmaster pre-sale for Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour,” Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Mike Lee (R-UT) have announced that a congressional antitrust panel will hold hearings on a lack of competition in the live music and ticketing industries, Variety reports. Klobuchar had previously called for hearings last week. Dates and witnesses will be set at a future time.

And "they" continue to wonder why they are despised. Fvck 'em.

X-ray shows live cat trapped in checked luggage at JFK airport

A TSA agent in New York City spotted a live feline trapped inside checked luggage at John F. Kennedy International Airport — but safely got the cat out of the bag, authorities said Tuesday.

The orange tabby’s brush with potential tragedy happened on Nov. 16 when the bag was checked from JFK to Atlanta for a connecting flight to Melbourne Orlando International Airport in Florida, officials said.

“The cat did not belong to the individual with the suitcase, it belonged someone else in the household,” TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein told NBC News.

Good-bye Wilks. RIP Wilko Johnson.

Wilko Johnson: Dr Feelgood guitarist and punk forebear dies aged 75
The Dr Feelgood guitarist died at home on 21 November, his family confirmed

Wilko Johnson, the guitarist for Dr Feelgood and a formative influence on the British punk movement, has died aged 75. A statement posted to his official social media accounts said he died at home on 21 November.

Johnson was diagnosed with late-stage pancreatic cancer in 2013 and elected not to receive chemotherapy. That year, he was told he had nine to 10 months left to live.

Nevertheless, in 2014 he released the album Going Back Home, a collaboration with the Who’s Roger Daltrey. Later that year, doctors discovered that the cancer was a neuroendocrine tumour, a less aggressive and more treatable form of the disease, and Johnson announced that he was cancer-free following a major operation to remove a 3kg tumour.

Otis Reddings' widow and his former manager filed a lawsuit against the author of a biography written in 2001 about the R&B legend, claiming the book was filled with lies. The lawsuit, filed in Atlanta's Fulton County, sought $15 million in damages and claimed that the book detailed rumors about the singer's drug use, extramarital affairs and divorce, causing "harm to the plaintiffs." It also cites rumors that Otis' manager plotted with the Mafia to kill Otis by causing the plane to crash in order to claim $1 million in life insurance. via thisdayinmusic.com

Quite the vet. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

Meet the Veterinarian Whose Selfless Acts Have Saved Many Homeless People’s Pets

Dr. Kwane Stewart, who is also known as “The Street Vet,” is changing the world for the better. He has always been an animal lover and devoted most of his formative years to rescuing stray animals. This eventually led him to decide to become a veterinarian, and he has since saved countless animals. But there is a story behind that decision.

I am a fan of Hank Williams. Love his music. But if Kid Rock thinks some house Hank used to hang his hat in should be preserved, then Kid Rock should go to the current owners and made an offer on the property. Agree completely. Letting some activists who may drive by the place once or twice a week decide that the owner can't put the property to its highest and best use is a travesty. "But I like it there."

I don’t mean literally smoosh, just fit them under the seat like carry on.

I don't think Kid Rock is demanding that government force the current owners to preserve the house. He's trying to lobby them to preserve it. One would think that "the Hank Williams House" would have some drawing power as a tour attraction, a la Graceland. It's on a large estate. Divide the estate up into 10-acre lots, build a bunch of McMansions, and keep the 1850 home as a community center. Rent it out for parties and weddings. Win, win.

You'd think that there would be financial firms that would be willing to convert your variable rate mortgage into a fixed rate mortgage.

Way, way too much risk for an individual homeowner.

OTOH, what was even worse was Iceland before the financial meltdown there was that all mortgages were denominated in Euros, not Icelandic Krona, so when the Krona melted down, the cost of paying the mortgage in Krona went up by an order of magnitude.

When my wife was a little kid she and a cousin tried to mail a cat by stuffing it into a mailbox. [... later the next day...] The mailman comes along and opens the mailbox to have a fur missile launch out. He got scratches and spankings we're dealt to the kids when mom found out. Come to find out she had been trying this for a while but the cat kept getting out until she found one at the neighbors that had a lever to lock it shut.

224 Like many musicians, Swift' first few breakout hits weren't altogether bad, and you couldn't avoid hearing them on the radio, they were everywhere. Bit of creativity, clever lyrics, adequate songwriting. Weak, reedy voice but blessed with a clear and accurate pitch.

She didn't win over serious music fans, but she did win over zillions of angst ridden girls, who felt themselves in her songs, bought her CDs and flocked to her concerts in their thousands.

What I don't think Swift *has* done, is to grow one bit in either talent or artistry, and I could not I.D. anything she's done since those first couple of breakout hits. A "tell" that this is true. She's come out as "woke", very much in the Hillarista mode. If that's not a sign of true desperation, what is?

263 What I don't think Swift *has* done, is to grow one bit in either talent or artistry, and I could not I.D. anything she's done since those first couple of breakout hits. A "tell" that this is true. She's come out as "woke", very much in the Hillarista mode. If that's not a sign of true desperation, what is?

Contrast. Both were Mouskateers in the same grouping. Brittney Spears can't sing without autotune, twenty gay dancers and every other form of overproduced distraction from her tiny voice. Christina Agulera (sp?) spent a few post Mouseketeer years in Japan, improving her skills and making money doing it.

She's not my favorite artist, and seldom sings stuff I'd wanna hear. But, when she wants to, she CAN sing VERY well, with nothing but a piano or guitar accompement. Same with meat-dress Gaga. Weird as hell, but she can flat out sing. Neither though holds a candle to Rondstat in her prime. Commie nutzo, but THAT was a VOICE.

Years later when Swift was a huge star, my sister pointed out to me that we'd seen her play at that event.

328 If you'd like an intelligent look at the idea of giving thanks, and you've got a copy of The Screwtape Letters on the shelf, I'd recommend chapter 21.

Lewis writes (as the demon Screwtape, discussing a human): "They anger him because he regards his time as his own and feels like it's being stolen. You must zealously guard in his mind the curious assumption 'My time is my own'. Let him have the feeling that he starts each day as the lawful possessor of twenty-four hours...."

"...The assumption which you want him to go on making is so absurd that, if once it is questioned, we cannot find a shred of argument in its defense. The man can neither make, nor retain, one moment of time; it all comes to him by pure gift; he might as well regard the sun and the moon as his chattels."

What to be thankful for? Existence. Everything belongs to our Maker, we are merely stewards, even of our own life.

Back in 2020, there was a doctor or researcher who argued that Covid19 was not a respiratory disease, but a blood disease that impacted the respiratory system. The spike protein on the surface of the viron is the prime tool it uses to infect the blood of victims. Designing a "vaccine" that induces the body to produce the spike protein seems to be totally contrary to common sense. The vaxx can cause the same damage to people as the disease does.

I hate most radio stations, regardless of genre, with the heat of a thousand suns. The glory days of the FM disc-jockey with the boxes of albums, playing deep cuts and relating stories of what he knew (often, quite a LOT) about the bands, artists, stories behind the songs.

Corporate Radio got their CPA hands on those stations, and strangled the life out of them. We used to have great music teachers there on the airwaves. Listen long enough, and they were PhD courses in Music Appreciation. Today's radio = fail.

413 House is redolent with the smell of pumpkin pie, they just came out of the oven. Been doing them for nearly 40 years now.

It started one year the day before Thanksgiving, my wife got overwhelmed with prep and said "I can't do these so I said I would take care of them. And here we are all these years later.

Looking at our family it seems we'll leave a fine legacy. Not a bad way for a man to leave this life.

There is tons of pop music from every decade that I like - that is not very good music!

426 In September, Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh brokered a tentative deal between rail unions and rail carriers while President Joe Biden and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg were out of town. Union concerns centered around sick time and scheduling, and Walsh’s work appeared to have avoided a strike that had the potential for far-reaching consequences on the American economy. However, the deal has fallen to pieces, and the clock is ticking as a December 9 strike looms.

430 Hello Horde.

So my "prep" tonight just after sundown SoCal time was to choose which of my 6 BBQ units would be chosen to cook not one, but two 21 lbs. birds for tomorrow's feast. The birds have been brining now for close to 24 hrs. and the cooking will commence at 0500 hours to make the desired plating time 0f 1500 hrs.

This year, I have chosen my trusty 20 year old New Braunfels stick burner and my 1990's Brinkmann Upright Smoker for the honors. Both units have gone through 2 refirbs yet still kick out tasty meat with charcoal and wood chunks.

There is no need to wish me "luck" I have been doing BBQ since 1992.

Should have left nursing years ago as family said I had the talent for this...yet, I still am committed to taking care of people.

It's called "hooks" and good pop music producers know how to make them happen. I spoke of WWOZ earlier. Heard a good story there, about the Frankie Ford record, "Sea Cruise". Doctor John was a producer on it, along with Allen Toussaint, IIRC. The Doctor hated the opening sound effects, calling them "cheesy". He got outvoted, and the song became a huge pop hit:

Wire in one of those pushbutton Peizio sparkers the outdoor grills use. Maybe fabricate a separate sheet metal holder for the button, up by the burner knobs, attached via an existing fastener on the stove? Don't want no holes drilled through that porcelain clad beauty!

I agree, they almost all have a great hook.

However, look at all of the one-hit wonders that tried to re-create the magic with their original producer, and then again later with a different producer.

There is some "catch lightning in a bottle" aspect to a pop hit.

I find that concept very intriguing!

450 I may have linked this before, but here is a very cool song from 1998 by a guy named Virgil Brown, who did one CD, that was hugely popular in my area. He toured to support it, and played Calgary, and I was there and met him. And then he just vanished. Apparently he just got disgusted with the music biz, and returned to Seattle and opened a coffee shop. He is playing his guitar through a Leslie speaker, which accounts for the haunting sound:

Food prep's done for today. Tomorrow will be taking it easy, maybe do a little yard w*rk before cooking our (very simplified) holiday meal for 2. Weather turned back to mild and sunny for a few days, so will take advantage of it and catch up a bit outdoors.

Been meaning to horde-source an answer regarding ivermectin:

Apparently it doesn't 'play well' with statins, according to the drug interaction chart. How serious? I take 10mg atorvastatin daily and wonder what would happen if I ever needed to take ivermectin?

491 Original style IBM keyboard connector (5 pin DIN plug) to USB, I found one source, and they want 40 bucks for it:

You might be able to get away with an adapter from the DIN plug to the PS/2, then another adapter to USB. Might not work, but you won't know until it's fried until you try.

493 The old original PC keyboard connectors were about 3/4" in diameter. I quite forget the nomenclature on those, though. The later PS/2 were not quite 1/2", maybe 7/16" or so.

I for one am a heretic. I hated the original IBM PC keyboard. Loud as hell, and a writer could keep an entire household up at night if the muse struck and the writing flowed.

511 I have assiduously avoided getting bogged down in a mortgage here in Toronto.

1. Real estate is stupid. For the past 10 years I've been here, collusion between developers, real estate agents, renovation contractors, and the government has led to a situation where only generational deed holders (i.e. you purchased no later than 1990) are actually going to survive this.

700 sq. ft. condos are topping 600K in Toronto and that doesn't include association fees. Bungalows are hitting 1 mil, easy.

A bank will give me a 600K mortgage without blinking. By my math, I can responsibly pay for 250K. Now extrapolate that across a market where even 500K barely exists, and people are so severely overleveraged, even with the most favorable rates imaginable. Now comes the good part:

2. You cannot get a fixed rate for more than 5 years. To my understanding, a bank will lend on a 30-year amortization with a 5-year rate. After 5 years, the mortgage must be refinanced at the prevailing rate for another 5, rince and repeat. This was a colossal bubble waiting to happen.

3. Inflation is bad, but rate increases and the subsequent layoffs haven't impacted here yet. But they will.

If you want to see some corruption, you need look no further than Canadian real estate agents, specifically the ones with certain eastern European backgrounds. They take it to an entirely new level of filth. I have seen shit just casually done that would have ended in fraud and conspiracy charges anywhere else. The problem is that the government is in on it because property flipping drives up property taxes.

Real estate agents tell homeowners to reno prior to sale to drive up the price, so they invest 10s of thousands to do so, making their connected contractors rich. The buyers then gut the place, throwing the new countertops on the curb for nothing more than being the wrong color.

There's no reason to demand a seller do renos in that condition. The premium they earned is typically a wash when compared to the cost. However, commissions are higher, so the seller takes a net loss.

Posted by: Oldstoke at November 24, 2022 01:35 AM (TH2A9)

517 (continued)

The agents, banks, government, and contractors are engaged in a feedback loop that ratchets prices higher and higher, with 2 full renos per home sale (usually!), causing the rise in sale prices to bake 2 50K+ renos into the formula.

The banks just encourage it by smiling and allowing people to make the noose by which they will be hung.

Home sales are down 50% from the number 1 year ago. It's going to go down hard, and the clock is ticking on every single overleveraged mortgage.

542 So another RedState.com writer (hack?), is attacking President Trump over 2022 midterm losses. This time it's Jeff Charles blaming DJT for the Senate and House losses in Alaska. Jeff apparently just wants readers to totally ignore the fact that the Republican Party went all in for Lisa Murkowski and Democrat Mary Petola, against their OWN CANDIDATES, Kelly Tshibaka and Sarah Palin.

And yet at good-ole RedState.com, everything is Trump's fault.

Funny how they don't acknowledge how the majority of President Trump's picks WON their races. And if they do happen to (as in the case of Vance in Ohio) they try to credit said wins to a myriad of reasons that have nothing to do with President Trump's endorsement.

RedState.com is a Establishment Republican site that hates President Trump. Don't subscribe to them and be quick to point out their blatant dishonesty and bias in every article they write to attack Trump.

557 Hey, Puddleglum.. Working today?

Posted by: My Life is Insanity at November 24, 2022 03:41 AM (H/7Zi)

558 My Life, I just went outside to look at the sky for a moment. I am off to bed, but Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, I know that someone will be missing at your table tomorrow. I still think of you often and hope that all is well with you.

559 Heh, apparently I'm not as awake as I thought - should've reread my comment @556 before hitting post

560 Yep. Will have my Thanksgiving feast tonight, after work. Probably have some kind of Thanksgiving lunch at work. The DoD is pretty good at providing something for its minions during major holidays. I'd be happy with a quiet day.

561 Thanks Debby. Yes, it will have two empty seats, but I like to think that now mom and dad are together again.

562 That's nice Puddleglum. Then wishing you a day of peace and quiet.

563 I put off making #1 son's birthday cake. (His birthday is Sunday but we always seem to celebrate it on T-day).

So, the New York style cheesecake needs to get started soon so that it has enough time to cool and set. This year I'm doing an apple topping. Went to the local orchard and grabbed some good jonathan apples to slice up and saute with brown sugar and cinnamon. I think I will toast some pecans to add to it too.

568 The transcript of Senator Kennedy's remarks is incorrect. He used the word 'vacuity,' not 'acuity.' From a Bing dictionary search, vacuity is a noun meaning: 'lack of thought or intelligence; empty-headedness.'
