Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Senators Blast McConnell for Losing the Election as His Coterie of China Cvcks Defend HimHis Lieutenant Twink John Thune rose to his defense. Senate Republicans let their fury and frustration out at one another during a lengthy closed-door meeting that revealed the bitter feelings left over from a crushingly disappointing midterm election. An at-times nasty and personal discussion took place at the Senate GOP lunch, where Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), who have been at odds for months, traded recriminations over who was to blame for the GOP's failure to win back the Senate. The biggest fireworks came after McConnell stood up at one point in the meeting and observed that while he heard a lot of criticism of his leadership style, no one had yet announced any plan to challenge him for the job of Republican leader. Scott, the chairman of the Senate campaign arm, then interjected to say that he planned to challenge McConnell at Wednesday morning's leadership election, catching many of his GOP colleagues by surprise, according to a Republican source familiar with the conversation in the room. McConnell quickly cut Scott off, telling him to wait his turn to speak. Then things really got heated.Jodi Ernst, who needs to be primaried, of course supported McConnell, and then offered herself to serve in Senate leadership as one of his lieutenants. Cruz and Braun continued criticizing him. Cruz insisted the vote must be delayed until next month. Related: Now is the time to boot failed GOP leaders, not bicker about Trump vs. DeSantis. Agreed. We'll have to get to Trump vs. DeSantis soon enough, but we have two years for that. We need to sort our our McConnell Problem now. Forget about the Trump versus DeSantis question for a minute. Right now, the far more important and pressing task at hand is to hold Sen. Mitch McConnell, Rep. Kevin McCarthy, and other GOP leaders like Rep. Tom Emmer, the head of the National Republican Congressional Committee, and Ronna McDaniel, the Republican National Committee chair, accountable for their massive failures this election cycle.I mentioned yesterday: Mollie Hemingway made a great point on Laura Ingraham last night. Someone pointed out how much we owe Mitch McConnell for getting conservative judges confirmed, but Mollie Hemingway rebutted that. Schumer, she pointed out, does the same thing with liberal judges, and delivers on liberal wish-list legislation, and manages to not wage war against most of the party and avoids spending money to defeat them in primaries and eschews working with the Deep State to undermine a President of his own party he doesn't like but whom the American people elected. With McConnell, it's only the first one -- and we're supposed to be content with that. "They'll be satisfied with less." So Ming the Merciless predicted humanity's acceptance of his cruel rulership, after he had suitably chastised them with decades of degradation. We are no longer satisfied with less, Mitch the Merciless. McConnell has been waging a war against the Tea Party for fourteen f***ing years. The Tea Party is vital to the party. Mitch McConnell is not. He's just another corrupt, cynical, self-dealing, China-protecting brokedown chair-filler. It's time for him to go. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Here's a message for the GOP, who won't read it.
Your candidates didn't lose for lack of advertising. You lost first and foremost, because of fraud in certain races. But across the board, you lost because your message focused on gas prices and inflation, instead of issues that get people pissed off and ready to change things, like loss of freedom, transgendering children, faggot elementary schools, and other values issues. While the left was busy painting pictures of rape camps and forced breeding for their base, you were talking about the price of eggs. You could have run commercials talking about beheading infants and showing tranny strippers in front of little kids. Instead you focused on inflation, which, let's face it, you helped create. 1. Smother Trump with love. Call him a great president and promise to support him 100% if he wins the nomination. Say nothing but good things about him no matter what he says about you.
2. Support every Trump position, while upping the ante on selected ones, and offering additional ones extremely popular with the base that he overlooks. Be Trump-Plus. 3. Every jibe Trump makes, respond with robust cheer that you love his sense of humor and irreverence. Then immediately tell people what you will do. "This is what I will do as President," over and over. == Obviously. It is better for Him and for the party. He can't lose with this strategy because even if he doesn't "beat" Trump he's likely set himself up as the VP candidate. Which in turn will make him the immediate successor and heir to the throne. Its the obvious move. It maximizes his chance to win outright, but also maximizes his chance of being number two. IF he doesn't do this IT IS THE TELL. It would have been unprecedented if McConnell went forward with the appointment rather than the other way around. He adhered to existing practice. It'd be a different story if it weren't a presidential election year and he held the line.
Posted by: Red Turban Someguy --------------------------- The closest precedent was keeping Chief Justice Warren's seat open in 1968 but that was in effect because conservative Southern Democrat Judiciary chair refused to advance the nomination to the floor due to corruption problems with Abe Fortas. Johnson nominated a crony for an anticipated associate justice vacancy but with no vacancy--the nomination lapsed. Abe eventually resigned his associate justice position so Nixon got two appointments when he entered office. Posted by: whig at November 16, 2022 01:46 PM (CXr4y) 315

You want to curb ballot cheating. I am beginning to believe that pushing proportional voting for legislatures is the only way because it will splinter the heart of the Democrat and GOP parties. Proportional voting countries also generally have less cheating as each party jealously guards their voters.
Put a 5 percent requirement of the vote to maintain party status and eliminate districts and gerrymandering btw. That will also blow up the imperial Senate as multiple parties in the House and state legislatures mean that a mere plurality is needed to win a Senate seat with a lot more candidates. It will also destroy the ranked choice voting and other perversions. Posted by: whig at November 16, 2022 01:51 PM (CXr4y) 337

I offered a rough outline this morning of how DeSantis could win.
Posted by: Ordinary American at November 16, 2022 01:35 PM (H8QX ![]() I like it! (I would enthusiastically vote for either.) 336 You want to curb ballot cheating.
Think that'd require a Constitutional Amendment.
Posted by: Red Turban Someguy ---------------- Nope. It has actually happened in the past as seats for the US House are all allocated by state. In the past, post Baker v. Carr, a couple of states could not get their districts done in time for the election. That meant all the representatives ran at large and the top vote getters statewide got the seats. Seats in state legislatures are more likely to have state constitutional provisions but the US Congress does not. PR has other problems but usually each party polices the ballot process pretty closely in the system because parties have to maximize total votes to get seats and a stolen vote means less for them. Also difficult to get muh team red or blue going if there are 10 different parties. The risk is that coalitional governments are weak, prone to parties appearing and disappearing, and insiders still generate corrupt bargains. But a weak national government might not be bad. DeSantis is not personally wealthy. He will need donors, lots of them. And big money people to back him. And they want things. McConnell does a lot of what he does because he is paid to do it, by the big money people that back the so-called Republican Party. They want things, and McConnell is paid to deliver them. The bickering between DeSantis and Trump has been with the surrogates of DeSantis' "potential" wealthy backers, putting out the word that Trump is obsolete, in the past, MAGA is dead, we have to look forward. Trump knows what is going on. DeSantis is going to have to figure this out. I like Ron DeSantis, and he is doing great in Florida. Bagehot noticed something similar in 1860's UK regarding how the House of Commons and Lords and the Queen were not the locus of power, he found it was the Cabinet that actually governed. In our case, it is interest groups that use their agents in the bureaucracy, judiciary, and parties to effectively govern us. Laws are written by interest groups and then sold by lawmakers on the floor. Spending is divorced from actually benefitting Americans but spread in such a way as to facilitate stealing it. Borrowing excessively benefits the world and the financial industry but not present future Americans. Tax laws benefit the wealthy. And so on. Even though Trump loves the Country, he doesn't love talking about it as much as he loves talking about himself.
Him hyping Operation Warpspeed is a big trap. The moment he wins the nomination, the floodgates will open with studies concluding massive harm. And after years of him taking personal credit, he will get credit for the harm. Some of it deserved. And you there will be a flood of tell-all books blaming him. Better strategy is a "I won't get fooled again" strategy. Say he relied on the reputation of guys like Fauci and the rest of them. He didn't expect them to lie their asses off. And didn't expect blue state governors to go nuts. However, I've got no confidence he would do this. The problem as I see it is that Trump is the only one [given his personal wealth] that can withstand the pressure and the lawfare, but I am not sure he can win because many in his own party hate him. I think he is flawed but is the type of man we need because in some ways his flaws are what make him effective. Unfortunately, his flaws are what may make him unelectable in 2024. The Dems flipped safe-red AZ and GA in 2 years.
But we can't take it back using the same methods .... Posted by: People's Hippo Voice Both states have recall elections for statewide officers btw. Get rid of Ratshitburger is possible in GA and Hobbs, etc if it comes out they cheated in AZ. AZ also has popular initiatives and constitutional amendments that bypass the officeholders. Remember, it is up to the majority party to come up with solutions. Voters keep giving Democrats more control but Republicans never insist Democrats come up with answers.
It is completely foolhardy for any Republican to take the high road and start talking about cutting entitlements. Democrats keep putting that football out there and Republicans keep running for it. For instance, what is the cost of providing social security to 40 million illegal immigrants? Come up with better questions and stop letting Democrats pretend there are only 11 million illegal immigrants. They have been saying that since 2005. Greg Price just posted a clip from McConnell's press conference, they're actually laughing at us.
------------- These ones, I assume: @greg_price11 · 34m McConnell: "My message to [Biden] is let's find some things between the 40 yard lines that we can agree on and we did some of that this year: infrastructure, chips, school safety, mental health." @greg_price11 · 43m McConnell: "I'm not going anywhere." Mitch only saved that supreme court seat because he thought... like everyone else in DC... that Hillary would win. Failure theatre 101... "See I tried, now send me money"

This busty, callipygian brunette has long since run out of patience for GOP leadership:

As close as this country is to the Abyss "inflation" doesn't even land in my top ten (10) "issue" list. Most, even some here at AoS, are simply incapable of separating the symptoms vs the DISEASE. Steve Bannon aptly characterizes this as SIGNAL VS. NOISE.

His Lieutenant Twink John Thune rose to his defense.

Until the people of Kentucky ditch his ass, we're stuck with him. Likewise the people of ND who voted in Thune again. Ditto the people of Texas who voted in Cornyn, again.
The upside to this nation is also the downside - w/ 50 independent laboratories, it's impossible to rip these assholes out of their jobs. All they have to do is provide solid customer service to the people in their district/state & they're set for life. Then in DC they do whatever the hell they want. Sure, I agree that McConnell is horrendous with a 7% approval rating, but he has the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and over 30 Republican Senators wrapped around his fingers.
And regarding Trump vs. DeSantis. Only one of them has the stones to go against the fucking turtle, and it’s not the sanctimonious one. Posted by: Dummy #43 at November 16, 2022 05:28 PM (U2W4Y) 449
I read the column again. Ace is a joke.
Mitch has to go? No shit. How are you going to make it happen toots? Posted by: Dummy #43 at November 16, 2022 05:32 PM (U2W4Y) 450
And lets be honest about the judges - during Covid and then the 2020 election, it become very clear that the "conservative" judges that McConnell was promoting to Trump were ultimately loyal to MCCONNELL, not Trump.
Furthermore, it can easily be conceived that he blocked Garland purely as a symbolic move since I guarantee he was 100% sure Hillary would win and then just advance Garland through to confirmation. The problem is, there is no "control group" to compare the GOP Senate under McConnell to in order to determine his level of success. Could literally ANYONE in that position have done as well ?
