Slowly at first, then all at once: How Sam Bankman-Fried's crypto empire collapsed. (The New York Times)
FTX and Alameda were closely linked. Alameda traded heavily on the FTX platform, meaning it sometimes benefited when FTX's other customers lost money, a dynamic that critics called a conflict of interest.
No. A supporter would call it a conflict of interest. A critic would call it fraud.
Mr. Bankman-Fried moved FTX to the Bahamas in 2021, drawn by a regulatory setup that allowed him to offer risky trading options that weren't legal in the United States. On the exchange, investors could borrow money to make big bets on the future value of cryptocurrencies.
Margin calls on the the radioactive decay of short-lived isotopes would be a better bet.
Despite the billions that venture capital firms put into the company, FTX had none of those outside investors on its board.

Two days later all her creations had their own Twitter and YouTube accounts, a corporate presence, and a debut stream.

Having lived all my life in MA, I am used to four seasons and am more or less content with three. I have never liked winter. I don't like the cold or the dreariness and I certainly don't like snow. I would love to move somewhere where the snow is, if it must come, never more than an inch or two.

But, sadly, circumstances in my life are such that I will die in this worthless state.

One thing I mentioned to Dave in Fla yesterday was that I think, going forward, it will be SOP for the Democrat to refuse to debate their GOP opponent, with the MFM praising them for not giving a platform to hate.

On one hand, this doesn't bother me, since debates have been useless since 1960. After all, does anyone remember a real policy position from a debate? I guarantee you, all anyone remembers are the zingers: "Where's the beef?" "There you go again," "You're no Jack Kennedy," and so on. 'Debates' are bukkake theater for the rubes.

But it infuriates me that a Dem will now never have to defend their record - they can just scream "Election denier!" "MAGAt!" "Homophobe!" and evade any scrutiny of their own destructive policies.

Well, I use "lo-fo mofo" as a shorthand for someone not interested in politics at all and who supports major league teams despite said teams' continual hatred of America while wrapping themselves up in the flag and cheering on the Blue Angels (yes, Red Sox, I am looking at you). It's my way of wishing I were a dumbass (more than usual).

As I've said before, if you want to watch sports or TV or eat at Chick-Fil-A, that's your choice. But don't complain about how the culture, the MFM and DC are degrading your country while you keep pumping money and eyeballs into them.

No, the Repubs are not great at the budget, either, but when you CAN'T TOUCH the entitlements, you literally have not been able to balance a budget for the last 5 years - possibly longer. It is now literally impossible.

179 RE: that whole election steal thing.... Nothing is going to happen until people openly and continuously challenge it publicly. That's why the label 'election denier' is used. They know it was stolen, we know it was stolen, and if it were ever admitted, the entire government would collapse.

This is something that has to happen at the grass roots level. For example, people in PA or AZ need to force a recall or election nullification. Once that happens, let it percolate up into the federal election system.

No state controlled by Democrats will be allowed to vote for the Republican candidate in 2024. With AZ remaining in the Democrat column and GA (16) and VA (13) flipped to Republican column, that only flips 29 electoral votes.

It changes 2020 result from 306-232 to 277-261. AZ would have flipped it to 266-272.

There is no path to Republican victory in 2024, no matter the candidate, without AZ.

I suppose i have plenty of hope for myself, personally, but the concept of America as a going concern is more or less kaput. Something nice might eventually fill the void. Maybe even within my lifetime. But the American Experiment has pretty much proved the hypothesis that, much like in physics, power derives from force and time.

I think we'll slowly realize we've been in a soft version of the Soviet Union for a fairly long time (and the neat part is I think it probably ramped up right after the collapse of the real Soviet Union) and people will just keep on living under it as it gets more and more strict.

I'm not saying that jokingly. Goverment/corporate surveillance, speech codes, lockdowns, limited travel is coming, etc.

I just read that some theology student at a public university (IIRC) was barred from participating in a program because he stated that men are men and women are women, and that's not what the state believes. Can't have Americans having their own beliefs and opinions.
