Huge Democrat Donor Loses All of His Clients' Money, Media Pretends The Story Is About Crypto

Miranda Divine:

Amid all the jubilation and gloating by Joe Biden, Chuck Schumer and pals over the Democrats' better-than-expected showing in the midterms comes a disturbing story that may explain something about how they won such a curious election.

Biden's second-biggest donor, cryptocurrency billionaire wunderkind Sam Bankman-Fried, a k a SBF, saw his business file for bankruptcy days after the election, but not before pumping $40 million into the Democratic Party to spend on "get-out-the-vote" and other shadowy ballot-harvesting mechanics for the midterms.

The shambolic 30-year-old whiz kid, once said to have been worth $16 billion, had spent $10 million helping get Biden elected in 2020.

SBF's mother, Stanford law professor Barbara Fried, also is co-founder of left-wing political action committee Mind The Gap, which has raised a reported $140 million to help Democrats win elections through the same "get-out-the-vote" grift.

A more unlikely billionaire you could not find -- and of course his money was built on thin air. A math genius with poor social skills, SBF reportedly lived in a "polycule" -- a polyamorous relationship with multiple people -- in a luxury penthouse with about 10 co-workers in the tax haven of the Bahamas, where his collapsed crypto exchange FTX was headquartered.

...

Now Reuters is reporting that between $1 billion and $2 billion of customer funds have vanished from FTX, conveniently after the Democrats safely spent his money.

At last report, SBF and his mysterious co-founder, Gary Wang, were being held "under supervision" by Bahamian authorities after reportedly planning to flee to Dubai, according to fintech publication Cointelegraph.

Reuters is reporting that between $1 billion and $2 billion of customer funds have vanished from FTX.

Tucker Carlson briefly mentioned this story last week, and pointed out that while Joe Biden is calling for the politicized DOJ/SEC harassment of his political opponent Elon Musk, he refuses to mention the name of the man who once promised to donate a billion dollars to the Democrat Party.

...

SBF certainly "impacted" the midterms, funneling his millions into the Democratic National Committee and Democrat-friendly PACs such as Protect Our Future and Guarding Against Pandemics.

He donated to committees aligned with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to help Democrats win races.

He lavished his largesse on "pro-crypto Democrats" like New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who was sponsoring a bill to lock the Securities and Exchange Commission out of regulating the crypto market.

He also visited the White House, meeting with top Biden adviser Steve Ricchetti on April 22 and May 12, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

No wonder the Biden administration has been weak on regulating the crypto market. It was the goose that laid the golden egg.

Meanwhile, the media massaged his profile.

Given that this involves Democrats and money, of course there's a Ukraine connection.

...

Another "altruistic" venture by SBF was having FTX back a cryptocurrency donation website launched by the Ukrainian government. There wasn't a woke cause he didn't hit.

The sinister neo-socialists at the World Economic Forum (WEF) loved SBF so much, they made FTX a "corporate partner" -- but that page on the WEF website has vanished in the last 48 hours, leaving an error message.

Miranda Divine makes a suggestion that will be ignored:

The very least the Democratic Party should do is refund the $40 million to the people who were ripped off by their crypto benefactor.

But that's not what the Democrats or media want to talk about -- they want to talk about regulating crypto, not their fugitive donor.

After the company declared bankruptcy, their assets were supposed to be frozen so that the bankruptcy court could decide how to apportion what remains of the money to its creditors and investors.

But hundreds of millions of dollars "suspiciously" vanished from the company's accounts after the declaration of bankruptcy.

Just a day after FTX Trading announced it was filing for bankruptcy, the company's CEO said Saturday that "unauthorized access to certain assets has occurred."

"An active fact review and mitigation exercise was initiated immediately in response," John Ray said in a statement, tweeted by the company's general counsel. "We have been in contact with, and are coordinating with law enforcement and relevant regulators."

Reuters reported earlier Saturday that analysts had noticed "hundreds of millions of dollars of assets" were moved from the platform in "suspicious circumstances."

Below, a video which explains the fall of FTX. If I understand what he's saying, the problem wasn't the crypto per se -- it was the leveraged investing, which could only continue so long as everyone was willing to park their money with FTX. If they ever asked for their money all at once, the company wouldn't have anything close to enough to pay them off, and they'd go bankrupt.

Which is what happened.

So of course the Democrats want to regulate crypto, the Scary Black Guns of currency.

Now, it's just about the different factions of the party in power claiming everything they can from each other.

It's fiat money not backed by government promises.

All the games that governments play with currency, private actors start doing, but they don't have taxation to help cover things. Hell, they're generally not even banks, so it's like when banks were making their own notes but without even the promise of stable accounts backing them up.

44 There's some really good reporting about how this was used as the launderer for the money in Ukraine.

As Zelensky apparently invested a ton of the money we gave them, for non- military use, in this fund, who then donated money back to Dems.

Another user also posted screen shots of the Bitcoin and Etherium ledger showing that money that exited FTX, as stolen, was passed around to a number of accounts that had previously been used to hide transfers between FTX and Sam's other hedge fund.

Someone else is also trying to make this out to be another Epstein situation, linking logos and other things from the company to pedophile groups, but it feels like a red herring to make anyone going after this laundering operation look crazy.

If he was running a heavily-leveraged scheme backed by crypto, the crypto crash would have done it in even if it was on the up-and-up. If he was stealing and operating a laundromat to boot, it will just happen faster.

and that's exactly why it's the best way to launder money. You pass the legitimate crypto off to friends, funded by incoming investments, and then when all the money disappears you just claim "well we fell into the scam that was crypto"

If Ukraine deposited $15 billion you needed to pass off to other Democrats, you couldn't just have thr fund go from $0 to $15 bill to $0, so you offset it with a little investor money, while claiming the other lost billions were because of thieves you can never track, and falling value.

I also recommend "The Big Short" (2015) which shows much the same thing, writ much larger.

This. There was nothing inherently wrong with FTX's crypto. It was just used to collateralize a lot of highly risky investments without the owners' permission or knowledge.

When the investments collapsed, the collateral was lost.

These are all trial runs by central banks for a global digital currency, which is the end goal.

They beta test it with the sales pitch that it's a good way to defy the government. Then they watch and see how it's manipulated and the tricks that are used, as well as see how the Asian sector tries to steal it.

Once they feel relatively sure in its security, it will be implemented. I'd say within the next 10-20 years.

Nothing really has fixed guaranteed value. You seem to mean a fixed amount of a good or service, but fiat currencies are by definition not pegged to a fixed amount. It is a variable claim to goods within the US economy rather than a fixed claim to a specific amount of gold(which itself would be variable to other goods).

If the US currency went to digital crypto-level swings wouldn't occur is what you're asking? Well they'd still operate by the same monetary rules that governs it non-digitally. At some point the US dollar is going to collapse, digital or not.

The volatility in crypto isn't due to their digital nature. Crypto that is backed by a specific service tends to be much more stable, basically being like Disney bucks.

257 The taxation problem with crypto comes from the fact that it fluctuates in value so wildly. You buy a car with crypto and you have to report what that crytpo was worth when you bought it versus what it was worth when you traded it for the car. This can get immensely complicated if you do a lot of transactions.

Of course, unless you use a public wallet there is no way that the government can find out that you own crypto or had any crypto transactions.

Bitcoin is fundamentally flawed. The "mining" concept is that you are rewarded with units of Bitcoin in exchange for helping to settle the transaction (calculate, propagate and persist the blockchain, or transaction audit record). The problem with this is twofold:
1. There is a finite amount of Bitcoin by design, so the reward (Bitcoin issued to you) decreases with time.
2. The entire blockchain has to be validated, which is computationally difficult and expensive, and the blockchain grows with each transaction.

Once there is no more new Bitcoin to be had, there will be no default reward for processing the transaction, but even before that happens it is possible that the energy and capital exchange required to do the processing will the default reward not worth it (likely will result in processing fees).

Not all cryptocurrencies have this weakness, but BTC does.

When PNG was positioned to displace GIF for web graphics, one of the items they called out as a non-technical benefit was that the extension was unlikely to be pronounced but that if it was, it was unambiguous and wouldn't result in people arguing over pronunciation.

362 What does “mining” crypto mean?
Posted by: Bulgaroctonus at November 14, 2022 12:52 PM (cLJOK)
++++
Depends on the system. In Bitcoin and several others, "mining" is the process of being rewarded with net-new (never before existed) Bitcoin in exchange for providing computing capacity to settle transactions. Calculating and validating the entire blockchain is extremely difficult (and it is difficult on purpose), and it has to be done when possession of a token (a Bitcoin or a piece of a Bitcoin) is transferred. The ledger - which is permanent and historical - has to be validated and updated. That validation and update takes a lot of work, and in exchange for doing it, you are given new Bitcoin.

As Bitcoin is finite, the amount that you receive for any given unit of work declines, and will decline until hits zero (the maximum amount of Bitcoin that ever will exist already exists). It will go upside-down well before that, though, meaning that the amount of money (energy, equipment, time) it takes to mine is not offset by the new Bitcoin generated.

Other cryptos work differently.

It is similar to gold paper. It has value because other people assign it value. Actual gold has value because history has judged it to have value. But it typically only has value when it is actually in front of you. Cash has value because of the military behind the country issuing it. If you want something of value that will last, buy liquor.
