Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Who Watches The ONT?Greetings! Welcome to the Thursday ONT. How are things going where you are? Bird News Great Tits Gain Massive Peckers!Certain birds in the U.K. have longer beaks than their non-U.K. brethren of the same species. Evolutionary biologists suggest that it's the British people's fondness for setting out bird feeders that is behind this trend. The hobby appears to be directly impacting evolution. Honestly, I just wanted to use the headline. Financial Advice The 4 Dumbest Things We Keep Spending Too Much Money On In point of fact, this isn't even an article. It's an advertisement for several different apps/websites disguised as an article. I'm only posting it because I'm curious if any of y'all have used any of these services, and if so, how were they? From The Halls Of Montezuma The ONT would like to wish the USMC a very happy birthday! Arbeit Macht Fried KFC apologizes for Kristallnacht promotion in Germany This is horrible, but I actually believe KFC's explanation. First of all, the NY Post headline is misleading. KFC did not have a Kristallnacht promotion, it was a tweet. KFC has apologized for sending an alert urging customers in Germany to commemorate the Kristallnacht – the 1938 pogrom that preceded the Holocaust — by eating its cheesy fried chicken.KFC quickly deleted the tweet, with this explanation KFC said it uses a bot linked to national observances to generate notifications for its appThis rings true to me, because so much corporate social media is automated these days, and Kristallnacht is on the official German calendar. Be that as it may, this is at best insensitive, and at worst downright offensive. A bigger issue for me is the rising tide of antisemitism I have been seeing lately. For all they like to accuse us of being Nazis, a lot of it, as usual, is coming from the left. It's not conservatives running around NYC bashing anyone wearing a skullcap in the head. However I have been seeing a lot more memes featuring vile “hook-nosed Jew” iconography over the last, oh, 6 months, and these communities are, if not right-wing, most definitely anti-left, and they are predominantly Gen Z. The right is waking up and is pushing back against woke ideology, but I'm wondering if it's too late. There's an entire generation that has been so poisoned by the Gramscian education system that even if they reject the excesses of the left, their zeitgeist has been so twisted by the racist tropes that were pounded into them that they don't even see what they've become. Food News Do Brussels Sprouts Taste Better Now? Yes—Here’s Why “In the late 1960s, our industry switched over to mechanized harvesting, which required a plant that would mature fairly evenly over the entire stem,” Brussels sprouts farmer Steve Bontadelli told MEL Magazine in 2021. The best sprouts for the job came at a cost: They were “horribly bitter,” he explained, “and we turned off an entire generation.” Anti-sprout sentiment began to dissipate in the 1990s, largely because the sprouts themselves became less bitter. As NPR reports, a group of Dutch biotechnologists led by Hans van Doorn pinpointed the chemical compounds behind the sprout’s characteristic bite—a couple of glucosinolates called sinigrin and progoitrin. After trawling their stores for old seeds that were low in those potent compounds, Dutch seed suppliers embarked on a years-long mission to breed the ideal plant: one that would turn out not-too-bitter Brussels sprouts, and do so quickly enough to keep up with modern production standards. Their success helped catapult the once-maligned vegetable to culinary stardom, especially in the U.S.I quite like Brussels sprouts, we have them about once a week with dinner. After I've cut the ends and discarded the loose leaves, I toss them in olive oil, season them with Tony Chachere's cajun seasoning and cook them in a 400 degree convection oven for 10-12 minutes. Delicious. What's your favorite way to prepare them? Fearsome New Threat The case against otters: necrophiliac, serial-killing fur monsters of the sea I don't know why people are so surprised that nature is brutal and mean. Probably because we are so insulated against it these days. In any event, the article lists a bunch of reasons why otters are horrible creatures. I mean, can you believe this crap? God Bless The USA People Are Sharing The Things The U.S. Has That Europe Lacks, And I'm Suddenly Feeling Proud To Be American “Let me tell you who those bad guys are. They’re us. WE BE BAD. We’re the baddest-assed sons of bitches that ever jogged in Reeboks. We’re three-quarters grizzly bear and two-thirds car wreck and descended from a stock market crash on our mother’s side. You take your Germany, France, and Spain, roll them all together and it wouldn’t give us room to park our cars. We’re the big boys, Jack, the original, giant, economy-sized, new and improved butt kickers of all time. When we snort coke in Houston, people lose their hats in Cap d’Antibes. And we’ve got an American Express card credit limit higher than your piss-ant metric numbers go. You say our country’s never been invaded? You’re right, little buddy. This endless Democrat voting counting obviously is designed to figure out how votes are needed to win and then come up with the correct number of votes. Tucker noted this to tonight when his team examined 13 endless counting races. 10 of the races were "won" by the Democrats. Nothing new here.
The second part of endless counting is to eat up as much time as possible before the mandatory certification. This bastard move ties up the Republican legal teams and makes it difficult to mount a court challenge when the Democrat "winner" is selected. And I still haven't reached no ID required, barely to unaudited mail in ballots, ballot harvesting and the latest and greatest innovation, rank choice voting. Our elections are beyond corrupt. Well, when you force people out of mainstream places, that'll happen. When you are told to choose between "tell the lady she has a lovely dick" and 4chan, a percentage will choose 4chan. When you tell young men to denounce themselves because they are white and male, they will find people that confirm it's acceptable to be white and male. And you may not like what else they get told by these people. The New Mexico Democrat Mafia redrew the House seat maps and of course they did the ole' gerrymander stuff to CD #2 (southern NM) which is predominantly Republican except for Las Cruces which should be part of California politically speaking.
The new map removed the eastern part of the state from CD #2 which is where the major population centers are located and split them between CD #1 and CD #3 where they have zero chance of screwing up having a Democrat elected. They then added in a some very blue areas out of the other two. Net effect is right now it is impossible for a Republican to ever win a House seat ever again. At least the Republicans are challenging the new map in court. It would have been nice if they showed some nuts and got that case into court before the incumbent Republican lost the election. At least Democrats gave us a reach around this time - In 2018 the Ds just made up votes in a trademarked "stunning come from behind win" after dragging out the vote counting until the bitter end. Dave, thanks! Well sounds like entirely an artifact of mail-in voting - which of course is an abomination and indefensible from every angle. You don't "sign" in-person paper (or electronic) ballots.
So that would explain it, since mail-in voting is fairly new, or brand-new in several places. How quaint, though. What % of NV's ballots in 2020 - a huge % of which were obviously illegitimate anyway, based on amateur outsiders sampling and checking a few voting records, and the TV reporter who got 5 of 7 fraudulent ballots counted - were even signature checked? After the GOP observers were expelled from the Clark County tabulation center (violation of state law, actionable federal issue, all by itself, check!), a career worker with a conscience told people the signature check machines had been "tuned down" to a level/resolution/whatever the term of art is there to a level the machine vendor described as basically switching them off. I am definitely old enough to know better, I am 50 years old. I am literally the age that the old number was moved by the "fix" I am also in all likelihood the age it will start to die off at. Funny thing, the math was obvious to this then 13 year old back in 85 sport. Social Security is a ponzi scheme, it was designed as one, and it will never be anything other than a slush fund that papers over political assholery by robbing the working young of 25% of their actual wages as paid by business to keep the grift machine going. The crossover point to it being a drain is on pace for my 63d birthday. Posted by: sven at November 10, 2022 11:18 PM (Lzpvj) Posted by: Anna Puma at November 10, 2022 11:19 PM (fsk/u) 369

Posted by: dartist The entire set up is a mess. Let's take payouts for dependents for example. I had two minor children when their mother died. If politicians aren't afraid of the consequences of threatening half the workforce with forcible unemployment, they're not likely to balk at going after social security when the time comes. They'll do it once most of the boomers have checked out. As a number of posts upthread allude to, Gen X and younger weren't expecting to get that money back anyway.

It is bullshit and was designed the entire time to be maybe if you roll good dice a 7 year payout. Medical science and a booming American economy in the wake of the destruction of 40% of the global industrial capacity papered over the con for 30 years after the war. It is nothing personal, and the mindfuck they levied on the pre-xers ranks up there with the color revolution bullshit going on here now. I have been perusing a newly arrived book this evening and I am ambivalent on recommending it.
Claringbould's newly released Pacific Profiles Volume Six - Allied Fighters: Bell P-39 and P-400 Airacobra South & Southwest Pacific 1942-1943 There is almost 100 color profiles provided in this book. P-39D Sun Setter, there are two photos of the plane in book and neither show an American flag on the door, but the description says there used to be one and the profile shows the flag. The squadron code C on the profile does not match the C in the photos. Profile for Honeybunch II shows a plane with both the Q under wing gondolas with the .50s and the earlier wing mounted twin .30s. Plane is supposed to be a Q-5. Profile also displays another problem seen with many other profiles, the SWPA IDs of white tail, white leading edges, and a white band on the nose is represented by a light gray color though the white star and bar are actually white. Another problem is there are profiles provided of aircraft, but no photos are included. Posted by: Anna Puma at November 10, 2022 11:40 PM (fsk/u) 414

Biggest problem with the P-39 was trying to harmonize the nose cannon, either 37mm or 20mm, with two .50s and 4 .30s. Have read reports the inside of P-39s looking like Christmas trees trying to paint all the possible trajectory lines.
Posted by: Anna Puma My late father's best friend in High School flew P-39s in WWII, and had a lot of fun. He said flying the P-38 was like driving a truck. The P-39 had only a single stage turbocharger, and got kind of doggy above 17,000 feet. And it did not have long range, which kind of made it lousy for the war in the Pacific. The Russians loved the P-39. Most air-to air with the Germans was below 17,000 feet on the Eastern Front. And they kept P-39 airfields close to the front, so range was not so much of a problem. Forget Fetterman (which is easy, since his health decline is guaranteed at this point), how dumb do you have to be to vote for Katie Hobbs? I also love Brussels sprouts, but never the frozen ones. I tried them once. ONCE. Big friggin' mistake.
My go-to recipe is braising them (for about 20-35 minutes, depending upon size; if really large, I'll halve them through the stem) in a small amount of butter, lemon juice and Kikkoman's Lite Soy Sauce. I cook until they give slightly, but are not mushy. On the plate, I garnish with a lemon zest snowfall and/or pre-toasted sliced almonds. I find if you can pick your own, versus pre-packaged, you can pick them all about the same size which makes for more even cooking. Also, the harder the sprout (like a marble), the better. From Van Der Luen at americandigest.org:
"It is going to get worse and that's good. ...Going forward the problem of blue policy continues to increase in intensity. Once the ideology of woke wins the blue policy has to run to the last bus stop. And beyond. There’s no reverse. There’s no repentance. The policies that keep a place blue are the same policies that slowly reduce the area to a crime-soaked, inequality-ridden, unsafe transportation network, with slums next to penthouses, all overrun with junkies and killers. And at some point, these areas become so lethal that the True Blues have to decide to kick their blue habit. That or die. And either outcome simplifies the voting map. But that time is not yet. Don't know if it's with him, his family or what)). Top 6 hasn't gelled yet either, and we really need 1 more pure scoring winger, ideally RW. Meh. Very good character designs and very good music. But the plot was nonsensical and there wasn't anything I could point to as a moral of the story. Actually, the musical aspect was minimal when they needed to really focus on that. Unfortunately, they did not. There wasn't a major theme of moral, it was just a bunch of ideas thrown together pell mell. It wasn't bad, but alas it wasn't good either. Story had some head scratching moments lacking explanation. Lots of disconnects between the A plot and B plot. I can see what Hosada wanted to do but none of it really came together. On a graded scale I'd say it's a C. I've been fretting about whether the House win is for-real, or whether they're stealing it, but I'm feeling better about it, after my last look.
My source has 210 called for R. Then there's AK-01, where the only question is which R wins (probably Sarah Palin). There's also MD-06, where the R is up 2.26%, with 99% in. Seems like they ought to call that one. So 212 seems pretty well set. But there are also 4 races in CA that look a lot better to me, now that I've seen that for 3 of them the R is the incumbent, and the other is a huge rural district bordering NV. The R leads there are +12.76%, +9.14%, +8.42%, and +6.54% (CA-27,CA-45,CA-22, and CA-03, respectively). I've been concerned about how only about half of the vote has been counted, or less. I still wonder WTH is going on there, but since these seem to be R districts, maybe it's OK. Perhaps part of what we're seeing with the delays in counting is to support the narrative that there was no "Red Wave". Anyway, those 4 get us up to 216, with just 2 to go. There are a few other races (like Boebert's) where it seems like the R has a decent chance to hang on, so maybe we really will have the House.
