Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

11 12 coffee(1).jpg

***

Good morning Hordelings. Enjoy a fresh new Open Thread. Just a couple of rules.......

1) Opine and/or bloviate away until KT comes around.
2) No running with sharp objects unless you're a medical professional. I'm looking at you Muldoon and Nurse Ratched to name but a few.
3) Be nice one to one another, even the trolls.
4) Have a nice weekend!

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:
9/6 – Jewells45 had bad news and needs prayers. Her CT scan indicated several nodes on her lungs, too many to count. It is very probable that she has lung cancer. Her husband is devastated, and she is scared to death.
10/5 Update - She is at stage 5 and has some in her bones, mostly around the spine and rib cage. Her doctor is phenomenal. He said he can’t cure her, but he can treat her and says she could live many more years. Treatment will involve chemo and immunotherapy.
10/6 Update – The PET scan of her bones was not nearly as bad as she feared. It should be manageable with radiation. She is very relieved!
10/8 Update – Jewells sends prayers for all her horde friends and continued thanks for your prayers. She is at stage 4, but the oncologist (who is fantastic) says it is treatable, and Jewells isn’t going anywhere for a while! Her brain MRI is 10/20 (prayers please, that this hasn’t spread). She gets her port put in on 10/17.
11/1 Update – The brain MRI was negative (thank God!) and radiation treatments and the first infusion are set up for the week of 11/7. She also sends her thanks for the prayers, that got her through the initial shock and several procedures. Please keep praying for strength for her as she faces chemo and radiation.

10/10 – B asked for prayers that he would be able to save his granddaughter, Adriana Grace. She has been repeatedly abused by her parents, and B is fighting the State of TN to save her.

10/12 – 496 asked for prayers. His wife is closing on a condo and they will be moving her out over the next 2 days. She will need strength going forward as she navigates living alone. They have been together for 20+ years, and neither of them is all that happy about the split.

10/13 – Count de Monet could use prayers for healing from Bell’s Palsy. His symptoms are moderate or more. He is thankful for God’s protection and blessings, and the power of prayer.
10/20 Update – His symptoms have improved markedly with treatment and his long-term recovery outlook is good. Thanks for the prayers!

10/13 – Nurse Ratched asked for prayers for Marine Ratched, who had a back injury.

10/14 – Madamemayhem asked for prayers for T and family, as T’s sister (aged 63) literally dropped dead.

10/19 – Ellipses (… requests prayers for a friend, Bev. She has been through the wringer for the last 10 years, only to end up with breast cancer last year, which is being treated, and now… she needs a kidney. She is basically reduced to asking around for one, which doesn’t work well. Any prayers you can put up for her situation would be appreciated.

10/23 – Sharkman asked for prayers for his eldest daughter (age 25) who miscarried on Sunday, losing her little one at about 2 months gestation. She was so happy when she announced she was expecting last month. Please pray for her healing, for her husband, and the soul of the little one who died.

10/24 – Village Idiot’s Apprentice is having eye problems. He was driving on the highway when there was suddenly a distortion in his middle vision, and he had vertigo. They were able to get pulled over and his wife drove them home. He has an appointment with a specialist. Prayers are appreciated.

10/26 – Brother Tim asked for prayers. It seems like he has an inguinal hernia, but it has not been formally diagnosed yet. The timing could not be worse, as he is trying to transition to a new living arrangement and is very busy at work, on top of other concerns. Please pray for healing, for smoothing of rough places, and a little peace of mind.

10/29 – C asked for prayers. He is 77 years old, and his wife of 22 years (age 65) just announced she was “not happy” and wants to end the marriage. She took the laptop and all their financial records, so it will be difficult to work out the details. C has no significant family or friends for support. Please pray for strength and support for C, and also for his wife.

10/30 – Ozborn asks for prayers. His wife is pregnant again, but after several miscarriages, they are too scared to hope this one will work out. Please pray for peach for them as they wait for the first appointment/ultrasound, and for health for baby Ozborn.

10/30 – Tonypete requested prayers for his little boy, on the anniversary of his passing, on All Saints Day (11/1), and also for his mom. She never recovered from his death, and checked out shortly thereafter.

11/1 – Euro could use some prayers, as she is hospitalized. She is out of ICU, but says her (6 broken) ribs hurt like heck and she is trying to prevent pneumonia. She sends thanks for the prayers.
11/5 Update – Euro is home from ICU and her border collie is staying by her side. He knows she is hurting.

11/2 – That Guy What Always Says Yeah Buddy asked for prayers from the Horde for his wife, who is in the ICU and getting a ventilator tube to help with her breathing. She caught the type A flu from him, and he cannot forgive himself for passing the flu to her. He is very worried about her.

11/3 – Brother Tim asked for prayers for his housing situation. He was supposed to move in today, but the promised financial assistance did not come through. It is so hard when his hope is being yanked away at this critical moment.

11/3 – Sal would appreciate prayers for a good outcome for his mother-in-law, who had surgery for a broken hip earlier this week and is resisting going into rehab. She has a bit of dementia, so that complicates things.

11/3 – Sponge’s new-ish boss could use some prayers. The boss has lymphoma and starts chemo next week. He’s a really nice guy and a good boss.

11/3 – Sarahw asked for prayers for her husband, who is had emergency surgery for a torsion of his stomach, a gastric volvulus.

11/4 – Polynikes needs prayers. He has a 5 mm kidney stone that is causing a lot of pain. His own doctor no longer accepts his insurance, and is not confident in the new doctor that he saw.

11/5 – Lola requested prayers for Phil, who is suffering from renal failure as a result of a rare autoimmune liver disease. He has displayed kindness, humor, and patience throughout his life, and could use peace and relief from pain and anxiety. Also prayers for strength and comfort for his wife and daughter are requested.

11/5 – Lola also asked for prayers for Lorraine, who lost her husband suddenly. They had a long and loving marriage even as he suffered severe, chronic illness for decades. Prayers that he rests in peace would also be greatly appreciated.

11/5 – Troyriser asks the Horde for prayers. His wife of 15 years (and the love of his life) suddenly and unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack last month. She died in his arms, and he is struggling with nearly overwhelming grief. Prayers for strength to get through this would be appreciated.

11/5 – Wenda asked for prayers for her husband He’s struggled with Parkinson’s and dementia for several years. Two months ago, he just crashed, physically and in terms of his grip on reality. She had to agree to place his in memory care. Now he has taken another big step down, and cannot make sense of what is happening to him. He comes up with stories of horrible things he must have done to deserve this. This week they will be discussing palliative care and hospice. Any prayers are welcome.

11/5 – DD is a prayer warrior in the Horde. He and his wife have offered to drive to pray with people in the Flagstaff/Phoenix/Prescott AZ area. He is also in Tucson every other week, so could pray with people there, too. Please email me (Annie’s Stew) if you would like to get in contact with him.

11/6 – FortWorthMike sent an update on his grand-niece Chloe. She is the toddler we have been praying for who needs a kidney transplant. He wanted to let the group know that she still needs a transplant, but has made progress. She is home again now, happy and talking and running around. She still has daily dialysis, and continued prayers are much appreciated. They have helped her tremendously.

11/7 – Sven could use some prayers for healing of his incisive hernia on his right quadrant by his ribcage.

11/9 – Screaming in Digital asked for prayers for her aunt, who is dying, and her mom, who may not get there in time to say goodbye.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

Romans 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

22 Spouse Flyover usually makes my coffee on Saturday mornings, but not today. Sad.

But I'm enjoying it anyway. As soon as I'm done with my coffee, going to get started canning ground beef. We had a windstorm the other day, and power kept going out. I'm not going to waste the half steer because some muckity mucks at the power company think they're saving the world by buying power from others, and hating coal. Yeah, I know the two (wind storm/green idiocy) don't seem to have anything in common... but my gut tells me otherwise.

Happy weekend to all, except to the trolls. You can go pi$$ off .

33 A Q for those brighter than me, which pretty much includes everyone. Since the moving company is coming this week, R. and I have been going through everything and tossing when appropriate and packing up the rest. I have a number of items from my late wife and my late son. My children absolutely do not want their mother's items and they were born after M. passed so no interest there either. Deep down, I think they are still PO'd their Mom left us. I have to tell you these items aren't doing me any good either. Sometimes, examining the past hurts more than it comforts. R., saintly woman that she is, says to keep them all.

Someone talk me off the ledge here please.

TonyPete, if it hurts at all and the things can't bless a family member, I'd let them go somehow. maybe burn like a sacramental would be therapeutic? I'm a purger by nature, however; so there's a bias there.

63 33. Kids tend to change their minds about loved ones belonging as they get older.

When a friend's parents died, he wanted nothing saved and said the neighbors could take what they wanted. My MIL took some of the objects the late father created and some of the photograph albums cherished by the mother. Fast forward to 2 years ago. We offered these things to the grandson. The friend and his son tearfully accepted.
Time changes Perspectives.

64 Tonypete, wish I could talk you off the ledge but I'm out on it too.
Movers come Monday here, and junk haulers just dropped a bomb on me (not all stay/go decisions made yet, as some family could not get here until later today to take what they know they want): I was told when booking that first visit was just an estimate, and service is 24-7-365. So I booked estimate for today, let the family do their final pickups, and final haul by company tomorrow.
Turns out one of their call centers says whatever they need to to get credit for booking an appt, so they were prepared to come do final haul in about an hour.
Kind man is willing to push me back to end of today's schedule (6 p.m), with possibility of repeat visit while the movers are here Monday.
Looks like my final decisions will be made for me as time runs out.
I'll pray for you, and if anyone can send some my way, much appreciated

77 Last night as I was putting the final touch on my all day roofing repair project I looked up from the hella reflective white coating I had laid down. My eyes don't shift from light to dark as well as they used to and I was snowblind. As my sight returned I was shown one of the bitchenest sunsets I have ever witnessed. It was 360 degrees with purples and reds and... It was just awesome. Reminded me how we live in the best times. Even as I was thoroughly depressed of the prospect of having to dump $20,000 into a new roof if I didn't nail my repair, at which point I have only postponed it for maybe 3 or 4 more, I was filled with a scence of hope...

Didn't last long but I felt it. There is some hope somewhere I saw it first hand. Anybody else seen it?

Prayers to all.

The 51 South Africans who died fighting in Israel in World War I
On the morning of September 20, 1918, less than two months before the end of the war, those 51 young men, so far away from home, were covered in blood and glory.

On November 11, the world once again commemorates Armistice Day marking the end of World War I. It is fitting to give honor to the 1st Cape Corps, which played a significant role in the liberation of Israel from the Turks and subsequently, in the establishment of the State of Israel. ❖

81 Pray for my wife since she just got indicted. A chicken--- police detective in our town would rather collar middle-aged educators than 19yo gang members trafficking fentanyl and sex slaves.

And the DA thinks she's a cop, so she went and got a ham-sandwich indictment against my wife. They all know she's innocent, but the detective is trying to make a name for herself, Janet Reno style, as a tough law enforcement biddie, so of course she targets honest middle class people just like Reno did in Florida.

90 Uh...ok

How about a prayer for my mom...

I just received a call from her skilled nursing facility that she passed away just a moment ago.

The old girl finished her race at the age of 101, having lived a full life.

Married in '45, widowed in '76, she had three sons (one of which pre-deceased her last year).
A nurse by training, a mother by choice, she returned to nursing after raising her boys.
Travelled the world with her husband, continued to travel as a widow with her children and grandchildren.
Lover of The Cleveland Orchestra, and the Buffalo Philharmonic, she leaves behind a treasure trove of 78's, LP's, CD's for us to pick through.

Her last years were spent in a memory care setting, and I am grateful for the love and care they were able to provide.

She's run her race. The Lord has called her home. She did her job, and did it well.

Be at peace Chief!

It sounds like you know you need to let those things go. Reopening emotional wounds, which it sounds like is what is happening with the items in question, is similar to "cutting". When I was doing something similar (revisiting and refreshing old pain) God told me in no uncertain terms to "quit that!"

There's some speculation that FTX existed solely to transfer money from their clients to the Democrat party. I can't say that's 100% true, but I can certainly understand why someone might think that.

100 The Trump thing from Dave in Fla is pretty clear. The question is, is there a solution? An analysis of the election and comparing Ohio to Pennsylvania to Georgia to Florida to Arizona to Nevada tells us:

1. Either the cheat is so far that they will never let Trump win or
2. Trump has no transferrability across the aisle and he is poison.

So what to do? Not support Desantis? I think it's been demonstrated. Trump is done. They will burn down Washington before they allow him back in. I don't know what he found out or what he was planning, but he's out.

I think our response should be to reject any Tim Scott or Mike Pence or Bush the fifteenth offering in any position.

A very rich man became gravely ill, and prayed to God to grant him one wish, that he could take one suitcase full of his wealth to Heaven. The Lord granted his wish, and he got the biggest suitcase he could find and filled it with gold bars.

Eventually, he died and found himself at the Pearly Gates. Peter said "you can't take that in here, and the man explained that the Lord said it was OK. Peter said "OK, but let me see what you brought." The man opens the suitcase, and Peter says "You brought paving materials?"

It makes it feel like home and you settle in faster. I tried to move fewer books, but it makes me so happy when I unpack them and put them out in a new bookcase. Also, it is expensive to replace those things you needed and didn't move.

Prayers for *complete* recovery are important since sepsis causes organ failure and is extremely serious.

There were some shining light last week, but overall, it doesn't matter what I say or how mad I get, the country is on a course which is unmovable. The only choice for my sanity is to step back and disengage from politics. And really, aside from politics, all this site has anymore is the daily trans outrage. 160 "the mining company has seen record profits, which are actually just stolen wages from the workers".

Very similar thing in a silver mine in Guanajuato, Mexico. The miners decided to socialize the mine profits, and they managed to socialize so well that there was no capital to underwrite the cost of stanchions to hold the mine ceiling up so they could dig in a particularly lucrative part of the cave. The socialist faction didn't want to underwrite the risks of setting aside a part of their income to pay for the capital expenses so this column taunted them for years.

Eventually a Canadian company had the deep enough pockets to fund the operation but they demanded changes...

Me too. Another story, may be tiresome, but here it is. When kid2 got married last November, several of the late grandmother's previously unwanted pieces of glassware (she was partial to candy dishes) found themselves converted to holding flowers to the great appreciation of the family. Kid2 was able to present her aunt with one of these arrangements. She was delighted and one of the son's wanted it for his daughter. A boy in his 20s at the time of his grandmother's death, is not the same as the 50 year old man he becomes.

Things are really just things. In the end, if they aren't used, they just tie us to the past, and act as an anchor.
Anchors are good if you are resisting a storm, or trying to be kept from drifting from where you need to be sitting, but they are really hard to drag around when you are going places. It sounds like you have weathered those storms and are moving on, and lots and lots of anchors are not doing you as much good as they did in the past.
You can let them go, there is no disgrace in moving on. We do that naturally, we forget the pain and the loss, and cherish the memories. If you carry a loss in your heart for years it means you haven't come to terms with it, and you are still trying to understand the meaning.

I can go on, and I warn you that I have my own stuff I am trying to figure out what to do with.

A little wisdom I received from my father: "Don't lend anybody anything, give it to them." the idea is that if you can afford to lose it, then "lend" it and assume you will never see it again. Cuts down friction.

Of course, that also came with this other bit when some "friends" wanted to borrow my new 4x4 to go off-roading and to pull their boat:

"Don't ever loan your car, underwear or wife". I assume David French never received that advice from his father.

Tonypete, I'm sentimental as heck. I've struggled with those anchors all my life. I stumbled across a book about how to deal with clutter (not being disrespectful, but that's what the book was about) and it addressed the sentimental stuff and helped me tremendously.

The REALLY special stuff you keep. The other stuff you take pictures of and donate or throw away. Because it's not special if you are just keeping it for keeping's sake.

The first few are hard to do, but then it gets easier and easier.

Something that helped me a lot was turning pages or small photos/clippings and the like into bookmarks. They go somewhere else and are useful tools in addition to fond memories.

Thinking about the past makes me sad. So, I try and live in the present and the new memories I'm making which make me happy.

It is when they start parroting whatever is in the media (conservative or not) or getting the vapors over this insult or that, it gets a bit tedious. But better now than in 2024 which is why I believe letting it all hang out now puts the party in a better shape to fight winnable races in 2024.

220 I never regretted saving any items from relatives or close friends now gone. Yes, things are things, but their presence is often a physical connection for those those who have no clear memory, or no memory at all, of these people.

When we went through the old boxes, one of the items we found was great grandma's normal school diploma. It was an absolutely beautiful thing. It connected her with some of the books saved from her home, the Twain and Hawthorne sets in particular. Next to kid2's framed diplomas is great grandmother Clara's. Clara died decades before kid2 was born, now in addition to stories about her, she has physical pieces of her life.

We cleaned out the storage unit, amicably divided the firearms, and even got the paperwork done so I can sell J's car without B being present. (We are both on the title.) Say, anybody want to buy a 21 year old Subaru, 5 speed manual? Anyhow, B is safely back home, I'm eternally grateful for his help and kindness, and at peace with how we divided everything.

I also appreciate the prayers for my aunt & mom. My sweet auntie died Wednesday. My mom is coping well and should be able to go to the funeral.

Love and hugs to all y'all! Now to scroll up and read...

I had to deal with something like that after my grandmother died. Mom said she had a whole bunch of things saved from her that were about me (Cards, letters, etc.) and she said she'd send them to me.

I begged her to not do it. I never got along with any of my grandparents and there was no point to this but she went full speed ahead. Ended up throwing everything into the recycling bin the moment it arrived.

Time to check on insurance rates with others. With interest rates moving up which increases the ease of maintaining reserves, you can often change insurance and get the same coverage for cheaper from another company.

I think one consumer advocate, Clark Howard (has a radio and website) has maintained that you should check rates about every three years. Insurance companies often rely, like banks, that people do not want to go through the PITA to change and take advantage of that in rates.

Me, too. Both kids have little pieces of jewelry, vases, and even some table linens. These are things neither of them envisioned wanting, but now they love them. Kid2 spent lots of time and energy having a table that belonged to her great grandfather restored (it was his father's). Now there is a new guy who keeps winning and helping anyone around him win. If anything he and his team are More caustic to the msm. But for some reason the guy we love, who keeps losing, hates the new guy. This should not split the sight. They hate all of us. If Trump got so pissed as to go after Desantis and a Youngkin, point Desantis.

Trump elevated Youngkin for sure, I can see him using it for a run. I think Youngkin is leaning squish as he has said dick on 2A. But Trump elevated him like Desantis. A major own goal.

298 282. Destroying the physical culture of the West seems important to the WEF, almost Taliban like. This is also why I have physical books as well as kindle. The physical book can be stolen and burned, I guess, but the virtual ones can be altered to suit.

While Jacob and Stella, Max and Clara's things are not important Western culture, they are personal culture. Great Grandma liked Dickens is not the same as "this is her 19th century copy of The Cricket on the Heart she received for her 10th birthday."

Posted by: CN at November 12, 2022 10:38 AM (Zzbjj)

Some people, like me, like memorabilia of past generations, others consider it clutter. I try to share family materials by scanning and distributing such.

I scanned and distributed a whole series of letters from my grandfather home a few years ago that were written in WWII before he died in the conflict.
My youngest uncle had not even been born yet when he died. Gave them a glimpse of their grandfather for them and how much he loved their mother and his kids. Passed those letters on dvd on to the next generation of grandkids as well.

Prayers and love going out to all the Horde who need them, whether or not their need has been made public.

Tonypete, when we were cleaning out Mom's house, we saved what we wanted, gave friends in need and extended family next pick, and arranged with the local homeless shelter (they run a thrift shop, as well as giving things to those in need) to pick up the rest. Is something like that an option? Pick a few things for yourself that you think will continue to have meaning, then send the rest on to those who can use them.

Not long ago he found 10s of thousands of dollars worth of bonds in a dresser drawer and tracked down the heir to return them. It took multiple tries to get the man to call him back, but he was pleased in the end. The heir also discovered a bit of longing for the dresser he sold for nothing "to get rid of the stuff". It was already gone.

Only to have the area be decimated by Russians, who up to that point had been avoiding civilian casualties.

360 From what I understand about those lenses they're simple refractive notch filters. So they block out a few selected narrow bands of wavelengths to provide separation between red green blue. That allows you brain to maybe separate them better if you're colorblind.

They were discovered by accident by a guy that was trying to make lab safety glasses that would protect from specific laser wavelengths while still allowing you to distinguish colors and was surprised to find colorblind people like them.

376 358. LOL. I think most people have an intermittent interest. Kid1 is finally developing one. Grandson 2 looks like none of us. All of a sudden it was important to know about man that grandson2 looks like, the story behind the matching eyes.

At the MoMe one night,I had heard that she had baked some and they would be brought out for dessert. Having had them before, made a point of asking to be told when she was bringing them out. I was able to grab a couple as soon as they appeared for myself and table mates.
I looked up when I got back to my seat and thee were 5 guys standing in front of the tray trying to figure out how many they could get away with. Don't think it was 10 minutes later and there were only crumbs left.

406 More on the dam explosion:
Apparently the Russians blew the bridge atop it, as well as a section of the dam. See the photos in the link. British MoD says it is "highly likely" the dam was blown by the Russians. No kidding.
https://tinyurl.com/29v94kv2

They blew the Antonovsky Bridge a couple of days ago, which was the other major bridge, so now there is no easy access point for the Ukes to cross the Dnieper. OTOH, the Russians no longer have uninterrupted land access to Crimea, since the routes there are now within artillery range.

A pro-Russian spokesman says that there isn't enough of the dam missing to cause a major flood downstream, but that something could happen in the future.

Nice city you got there. Pity if something happened to it.

Great idea on the pre measured portions. I hope that moving back to a more humid climate, I won't have this issue as much. Or, I could start baking more often and not let the supplies sit around too long. In my new area I will be able to bring goodies to family things again, so I won't consume the entire pan myself. Fairly common story for Army or early USAAF or USAF personnel.

But, a lot of it can be recreated if you know the specific military unit he was in. In WWII, units had military historians compile after action reports into unit histories. Some of it can also be found in various other Army records scattered across the US. For example, many of those training units had newsletters, etc. and pr footage of pictures and movies of training units or even units in combat. None of that was stored in St. Louis.

423 In supermarket news, a heads up.
Since sizes and contents are shrinking, we have a new wrinkle to deal with: companies are shipping containers with less product... And using THE SAME UPCs. The bar codes are identical, but there is, say, 2oz less product in the container, and the only way to tell is compare a previous one with the new one.
I've never, ever seen that before, that's new.
According to the buyers it is legal, it's up to the retailer to properly identify the new lowered contents to an identical container with, as I stated, THE SAME UPC.
So apparently it's on us, the floor workers, to start examining every fucking container that comes in and compare it to the old stock items.
WTF. Yet another thing for the stressed out customer to have a conniption about.

I haven't compared UPCs, but we noticed that there's a Cheez-It box that is about half the size of the standard/normal Cheez-it box that costs exactly what that normal box cost when Trump was in office. The normal box now costs double.

If someone doesn't buy it often I'm sure they'd just reach for the one they remember buying based on price.
