Midnight Sonata for Elephant Cafe

somekindofweasel.jpg

Story here, thanks to Jim (in Kalifornia).

First verified video of bigfoot? Or -- a golden doodle? You decide.

Fuzzy bliss.

Adopting a senior pittie -- who's about to give birth.

Gallant and Goofus, dog versions.

The GOP's get out the vote effort.

Picture time.

This bird saw what you did with your hand.

Songbird.

I think this svelte woman might have gotten herself a little too much dog.

This cat watched 40 Steven Segal movies in a row, then started greasing back its hair, started talking with a fake Brooklyn accent and calling people "jamoke" and "jibroni" and asking nothing but smugly threatening rhetorical questions ("I'm nothin' but a gun and a badge, huh?"), and started doing sick aikido throws.

Feeling a little covid-y...

I remember as a kid one of my cats sitting like that while a small (about cat sized) pair of dogs yapped a her when our male cat came tearing around the house at a dead run and uppercut one of them. It somersaulted 720 degrees and was running its legs before it came down again and he chased the pair of them away down to their house.

59 Later in his life Rachmaninoff became a naturalized American. Unfortunately he died a short time later. My favorite quote of his was directed at his music copyists, who were in those days serving as apprentice composers, understudies, etc. It usually took a team of a dozen or more to get a symphony ready for rehearsal. He commanded them, in Russian:

"Don't fix notes! All wrong notes are right! Don't make nice!"

When I get here in the evening, often I've had very little opportunity to mix it up during the day. So sometimes I want to mix it up.

However, I think your point is worth remembering, there IS truth, there IS beauty, right and good in this world. And we can contribute to it, or we can take a dump in the middle of the floor.

Given my personal life situation, I've been aggressively trying to add to the truth and beauty of this world lately. Which generally means having nothing to do with politics. Although yeah, no. I'm not really interested in animal videos either.

144 Couple thoughts this evening......

I remember sitting on a Sunday afternoon long time ago as a young girl on the farm, and was accidentally introduced to classical music. I put on the new album of classical masters that came with the new stereo, (my sister had just purchased) and stumbled upon Rachmaninoff. .I was mesmerized at the pure masterpiece of the piece, and was hooked on classical ever since! The 3rd piano concerto is still my favorite, but the 2nd Symphony is beautiful as well.

Also, I'd like to give a shout out to Jane D'oh. I'm glad you had good luck with your surgery, and that the cancer is gone! I had nasal surgery as well last summer (basal call CA-invasive) and a fabulous ENT microscopic surgeon did an amazing job of reconstructing the cartilage on my nose using a piece of cartilage from my ear, so I relate to the long process of having surgery and the recovery process. The feeling of the graft on my nose is odd, but it is so nice to have the cancer gone. I will go back every once in a while for rechecks to make sure this stubborn stuff doesn't come back!

Nor the population of Texas or the wide open border of Texas and the Biden policy of sending illegal Cubans back to Cuba.

There are a lot of illegals in FL. Many more now that Biden has been sending plane loads of them there.

361 On KFI-AM RADIO IN LA the afternoon drive guys,John and Ken, would solicit suggestions for the Republican (back when there were Republicans in Cali) "Head on a Pike". The Republican who received this dubious distinction received extra attention for being voted out in their primary or in the general election.

On the national level we could identify the Senator or Rep who earn their head on a pike in 2024. The GOP congressman that worked against conservative positions, made weasely moves, and engaged in failure theater the most would come under consideration. Acting like a squish in a solid red district would count more that being liberal in a blue district. Example: Romney over Collins. It may keep these people more attuned to the interests of their constituencies.

As McConnell has done more damage than having a dem in his seat by being in leadership I nominate him to have his Head on a Pike.

Tariffs were the chief funding source for the federal government and Andy paid off the federal debt during his term. Southern planters hated them as they imported a lot of goods or had to pay higher Northern prices for them. The planter society was fundamentally undeveloped as an economy because of slavery. Able craftsmen who were white or freed slaves left the South. Slave craftsmen were often like Frederick Douglass and more prone to resent working for a master to collect their wages.

The only people that largely benefitted from slavery in the South were the planter class and the mercantile interests catering to them. The rest of society did not.

Lincoln wanted the war, note Bob from the NSA I am not saying he caused it. The reality is he really *was* the prototype for SUPER PROG 2000 in a lot of ways, anyone who thinks internal part acrimony started with Orange Toupee Weasel needs to look at the intra-party electioneering that led to Abe getting the nod. The American Revolution has been constantly and consistently betrayed in 75 year cycles give or take since inception.

1776+75 1851 (the beginning of the road to 1861 IMHO was the dust settling on the Mexican-American War US Grant agrees)

1865+75= 1940 World War Two was the finishing of the concentration of power cycle begun by the kids of the Civil War Veterans.

2015 is the Obama bullshit roughly.

I think it'll exist, but it won't cover the whole territory. The USA has maybe, at best, another 10-15 more years of being able to solve all its major problems by flinging paper money around--probably less thanks to Branch Covidianism. And looking at it from a larger historical perspective of fallen empires, I don't see any scenarios in which the country doesn't break up along regional lines. Some of them (SE, Plains) are likely to stick with something reasonably close to the original guys' vision.

Hell Lincoln should have offered 10 times the value of the slaves with the caveat that the capital could not leave our shores.

At the end of the day the vanity that is structural to the American identity has carried a hell of a butcher bill-it is baked in the cake and the source of our power and probable doom.

I had to do research about the period for an unrelated legal project but that required reading constitutional conventions, secession conventions, a lot of the legal era from the 1830's to the 1860's at the state level and so on. It is depressing reading but the young Democrats were the ones that became radical in the South, the older ones , especially the former Whig party politicians in the South, still hoped to preserve the Union. In the North, the Dred Scott decision pretty much made the North adamant against allowing slavery to spread and that directly put a time limit on the south. Cotton depleted the soils in about a generation and so the Southerners eyed the SW territories for its spread.

I think we either radically decentralize by shoving most spending and living decisions to the states, become balkanized as several semi independent mini nations, or end up as an empire with an elected (chosen by the deepstate) Caesar. I am afraid to say I think the last is the most likely.

The price for the blood the north shed has led to the reward of the nation they died cleansing calling them "part of systemic racism in the service of the evil country founded in 1619."

It sickens me, to my core. A large part of my political identity is tied up in "get this fellas slavery bad, bad then bad now, bad here and bad where it still is." My ideals are not winning.
