USAToday Screams: Right-Wing PACs are Pouring Money Into Local Schoolboard Elections, Ruining Them with "Hyperpartisan" "Disinformation"

From a October 23: USAToday shrieked that dirty, underhanded Republicans are pouring money into local schoolboard elections.

The nerve of a political party trying to influence political elections!

Across the country, new right-leaning political action committees are pouring money into school board races, aiming to flip control of who governs schools in favor of self-proclaimed parents rights advocates in a way that rivals the role that teachers unions have historically had in these contests.

For much less than what it would cost them to influence a seat in the House or Senate, these PACs are putting thousands of dollars at a time -- sometimes just hundreds -- into races for local school boards and as a result, changing education on a national scale.

Euphemism Storm Warning!:

A super PAC called the 1776 Project PAC is leading the way, emphasizing opposition to lessons related to racial and social justice. With a war chest smaller than what some congressional candidates in competitive districts are raising, the group has supported and opposed school board candidates in a dozen states.

When Democrats were allowed to control these boards without opposition, and were permitted to inflict leftwing Marxist ideology about gender and race on unsuspecting children, that was "nonpartisan" and also just good clean education.

But now that the GOP is involved, these races have become "hyperpartisan" and full of "disinformation."

Ian Vandewalker, senior counsel for the democracy program at New York University's Brennan Center for Justice, said the involvement of these major PACs in local elections is a sign that politics at large have become nationalized and more partisan.

"This sort of hyper-partisan, disinformation-based electioneering seems to be happening at all levels now," Vandewalker said.

The "democracy program."

Oh, I'd quote the expert they quoted to rebut that leftwing hack, but of course, there is none. They only contacted a leftwing propagandist for commentary.

Here's why the leftist propaganda organs are calling a Code Red: Because these parent-centered groups may "outflank the teachers unions."

The rise of groups such as the 1776 Project PAC have the potential to outflank local teachers unions, whose endorsements and local funding have been the longtime keys to success in school board races across the country.

A study published in January by Hoover fellow Michael Hartney at Stanford University showed that "teachers' unions reliably win 70 percent of the school board races in which they make an endorsement." That's the same success rate that the 1776 Project PAC advertises now.

And now, a "center-left" group called Third Way says Democrats will lose this election because they're too "extreme."

Third Way -- a center-left think tank backed by some of the biggest names in Democratic politics -- is sounding the alarm about deep-seated party flaws, based on its own new polling from Senate battlegrounds.

Driving the news: "If Democrats manage to hold on to the House and Senate, it will be in spite of the party brand, not because of it," Third Way writes in a memo synthesizing its conclusions, shared first with Axios.

"Despite a roster of GOP candidates who are extreme by any standard, voters see Democrats as just as extreme, as well as far less concerned about the issues that most worry them."

Why it matters: Lifelong, respected Democrats are saying the quiet part out loud -- that if Republicans have a huge night on Tuesday, as polls are blaring, Democrats must blame "much deeper" problems than simply the "historical trends" that beset the party in power.

Flashback: James Carville, Ruy Teixeira and other Dems have been making this case for more than a year, seizing initially on the embrace of "defund the police" by some progressives.

In a brutal bill of particulars, the Third Way memo says under the headings "Out of Touch on Priorities ... Out of Touch Ideologically ... Out of Touch on Values":

"Democrats are underwater on issues voters name as their highest priorities, including the economy, immigration, and crime."

"While Democrats maintain a lead on handling certain issues like abortion and climate change, voters also rank these issues as lower priorities."

"[V]oters question whether the party shares essential values like patriotism and the importance of hard work. ... Only 43% of voters say Democrats value hard work, compared to 58% for Republicans."

"[E]ven in the areas where Democrats are trusted more [including education], it is not clear that voters are sold on Democrats' approach or ability to get things done.
"
"Democrats are benefitting from a perception among voters that Republicans are extreme, but they cannot fully reap the gains of this view, as voters think Democrats are extreme as well."

Leftwing partisan Democrat Hillary Rosen tells CNN's leftwing partisan Democrat audience that the Democrats will lose the election, because they have not listened to voters.

In fairness, it's kind of hard to hear people when you're always shrieking Cult Doctrine at them.

Democratic strategist and CNN political commentator Hilary Rosen said Sunday that she was "not happy" with the Democratic Party and insisted they didn't listen to voters in these elections.

"I'm a loyal Democrat, but I am not happy. I just think that we did not listen to voters in this election, and I think we're going to have a bad night. This conversation is not going to have much impact on Tuesday, but I hope it has an impact going forward, because when voters tell you over and over and over again that they care mostly about the economy, listen to them," Rosen said.

She said Democrats need to stop talking about democracy being at stake.

"Democracy is at stake because people are fighting so much about what elections mean. I mean, voters have told us what they wanted to hear and I don't think Democrats have delivered this cycle," she added.

11 Fun historical fact: the shorthand name for the Democrats before the Civil War was The Democracy.

That was how they referred to the party because it was so geared to populism rather than the elites.

So when the Dems say "Democracy" is in danger, they're actually using historically accurate terms.

If they were worried about the country, they'd say "The Republic" is in danger, which is the standard way to refer to the US. As in: Battle Hymn of the Republic, Grand Army of the Republic, etc.

Citizens United opened the floodgates on major donors running parties through Super PACs. Democrats would have to say no to literally billions of dollars in campaign cash from people like the Pritzker family to pull to the center.

There will be no triangulation. People like the Squad will end up in leadership positions in the Congressional delegation while donors demand loyalists in positions of power of the unelected organs like the DNC.

The Democrat party is going to get a whole lot more radical over Biden's next two years. Oh, and Biden's administration is going to punish America during that time, too.

early voting figures tell you who is voting, not how they are voting. there was a big defection by respectability and status-craving Suburban Karens in 2018. They really don't like Trump. They are the most sensitive to media pressure tactics and Respectability Attacks (i.e., vote this way or forfeit your respectability).

Many of those have flipped back this year owing to the Democrats making themselves disreputable.

I would never, ever count this group as "GOP." They're among the flakiest and stupidest of swing voters, if i'm being honest

but this year it's the Dem early vote which will overstate Dem support. more of them will be flipping to GOP than the other way. A lot more.

I'm sure that's what she hopes will happen, but if you look at the party base ID, it's not even close.

We pretty much alternate the party of governors, but the Legislature is mostly in GOP hands and has been for a while. Even when the Dems are in charge, they don't push gun control because it's a big loser.

Anyway, we'll see.

79 My local School Board race has 7 people running for 3 open spots.

I looked at the candidate websites, except for the one that did not bother. The three I picked sent me an election mailer that confirmed my hopes. It mentioned accountability, and raising school scores.

The other three also sent a mailer that prominently featured the Teachers Union endorsement.

It is a good idea to run slates, especially where people have NO Clue about the candidates.

80 It just struck that in schools and other offices, Dems have been following a Japan 1941 policy - sneak attacks, then try to hold on for the win while the other side gets sick of fighting.

But when the other side doesn't get sick of it but instead gets mad as hell, that strategy falls apart pretty badly.

For Democrats, election losses are never about their deranged shitty behavior causing them to be rejected by the public, it's about them not crafting a proper message to the public about how great they've been. And the Dem party will devolve into an organization that can never get more than about 40% in any national race. This isn't that outlandish a prediction; it has already happened in Texas, for statewide races, and this year it's happening in Florida, too. Dems have made a huge long term, strategic error in targeting niche groups, and I don't see how they recover. Ever. Something else will rise to repace them, but this iteration is finished.

Yet the government will go into more debt, forcing the Fed Res to print more money to cover it... making inflation grow.... while creating NO economic growth (as government does not actually create anything...

So... two fer... More inflation with less economic growth? WHAT THE F???

Is this accurate? I thought CU just gave the same power that the Demcrats always had (media, hollywood, newspapers) to anyone who wanted to run run an add or make a movie. But everyone always had the right to issue adds, and this only expanded that right to campaign adds, and only in the restricted period before an election

Essentially, the campaign finance reform act had restricted independent campaign adds, but of course unions and the media were essentially exempted. CU leveled the very corrupt playing field. And before CU the dems were running a corrupt game anyway with foreign and washed contributions and book deals and PACs. It only became contentious when the Rs tried to have some of that.

Well, that was my understanding but I may be wrong.

I'm very curious as to whether or not there is a real political realignment going on or this is a one time thing. Black voters, Hispanic voters, suburban women, Jews, these are traditional core Democrat voters and they are voting this cycle for Republicans in significant numbers.

I'm not convinced the Democrat party can easily recover from this given where the power now rests in the party.

==========

A few years ago, I came up with the idea that you could push a state like SC pretty far to the right at the state level for about a million dollars. State level races are pretty cheat here (like, a tenth of the cost of races in Alabama).

It would take effectively blindsiding ten percent of sitting, squishy Republicans in the primary with relatively large ad buys in the districts last minute to make the challengers' names ubiquitous. Name recognition could end up high enough to suddenly unseat a good number of squishy backbenchers, suddenly replaced by firebreathing, rock-ribbed conservatives.

Then, shit like constitutional carry becomes much more likely just a few months later when the new GOP candidates easily walk to victory in the general election.

DNC Chair Jaimie Harrison Stated they spent $90 million on the ground this campaign. Only $30 million in 2018.

I'm trying to prepare myself for losing the House and Senate so I don’t go into a suicidal depression if the worst happens. That being said, my optimistic side says we have a great chance at keeping both.

I can not imagine that women will say "I would love to be a full citizen, but the price of gas is high, so I guess I can lose my bodily autonomy!"

184 We have a $60 million school bond on the ballot once again here in rural NE Texas. It was defeated by one single vote the last time around and the ISD decided to put it on the ballot again. They sent out two professionally done glossy purple mailers at tax payers expense claiming the bond will not result in a tax "rate" increase. On the ballot it has in bold letters "this is a tax increase".

My wife worked the polls for early voting and had many seniors say they didn't want the separate ballot for the school bond. Most said they didn't want to vote because they didn't know enough about it. One or two were honest enough to admit that under Texas law once you are 65 your school taxes can never increase on your property as long as you own it. They aren't voting on the school bond because it will not increase their taxes.

Better yet, the non-profit that pushed the law on McCain gave a speech in which he explained how it was astroturf to fool the idiots in congress - writing letter to their local papers and stuff. It was a non-issue that they wanted to quash the Right.

225 This is the left's biggest problem. These guys are lucid enough to recogniez that the Democrats are becoming too extreme and crazed for voters to like. But then in the same breath claim that Republicans who want to dial back the crazy and return to days of more control and sanity are "extreme by any standard."

They see the problem, but are so wrapped up with their demented narrative they cannot escape it.
Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at November 07, 2022 05:29 PM (Ivdso)

And they've got an even bigger problem than that - if they do pull back to the center, the woke brigade that they've spent decades creating and nurturing walks out the door on them and probably goes third party. The Democrat Party of the future is gonna belong to AOC and Hakeem Jeffries, no matter what the third way thinks about it. They don't seem to realize that decision has already been made.

Where is the room for them to move to where the voters will yell tomorrow, "Meet us here!" where is the room for ANY compromise? None. They're going more extreme with huge failure theater productions to try and shift blame but will only inflame their base.

What Mr. Treglia revealed in a talk last year at the University of Southern California is that far from representing the efforts of genuine grass-roots activists, the campaign finance reform lobby was controlled and funded by liberal foundations like Pew. In a tape obtained by the New York Post, Mr. Treglia tells his USC audience they are going to hear a story he can reveal only now that campaign finance reform has become law. "The target audience for all this [foundation] activity was 535 people in [Congress]," Mr. Treglia says in his talk. "The idea was to create an impression that a mass movement was afoot. That everywhere [Congress] looked, in academic institutions, in the business community, in religious groups, in ethnic groups, everywhere, people were talking about reform."

329 Essentially Citizen's United was a far broader decision than it needed to be. Buckley v. Valeo is the ruling precedent and has set the stage where money = speech. But, because this is outright judicial legerdemain typical of the Burger and Warren courts, the court then proclaimed in the next breath that limits were ok because of the appearance of corruption warranted it.

Later cases allowed wealthy individuals to spend unlimited amounts because they cannot be corrupted by their own money but then wealthy types (Canfield was one) started lending their campaigns money and then using individual contributions to pay the loans back.

370 Judges:

On my ballot the judges are all running unopposed, so I checked the Write-in box. If there is an opponent? I usually pick them.

Do not let them think they are immune from being voted out. If they always see 20-30% opposition, they will think about their decisions carefully.

371 @225. Move On, established 1998, to defend Pres. Clinton was effective and it built power. There was Occupy Wall St, 2011

However, Dems seemed to completely lose the opportunity to moderate in Congress when Pandora's box was opened during the Kavanagh hearings and seasoned Representatives and Senators found it so damn amusing, in order to save face. (And the Indivisible Movement also soared.)

IMO they misjudged their ability to manage because many of them were radical when young & may have thought that gave them credibility to take back the reigns of control.

IDK. Maybe that's one of the reasons millions are allowed to stream over the border. Enough years & tough times pass and things might moderate with an influx of enough new citizens.

Scotus decision cut the balls off the DOJ and ironically it was due to a stupid lawsuit by Marc Elias involving AZ. There are also two more election cases cued up for this term where a lot of the gubernatorial and secretary of state as well as state court bullshit may be neutered. The Constitution's language explicitly gives state legislatures the power to control elections in the state--not the executive, judiciary, or administrators. So, the cases granted cert this year by Scotus might very well make state legislatures the sole authority over state elections.

374 >> For some reason I don't get, they are calling this the "Beaver Blood Moon."

Somewhere around 2010, the internet clickbait feedback algorithms discovered that headlines like, "Tomorrow's Super Buck Moon is going to be the biggest and brightest you ever saw!", got YUGE clicks. They've been doing it every since.

"Super" and "blood" moon, the later being a term for the reddish color during a full eclipse, are really nonsense. No serious astronomers ever used them.

Unfortunately, the lure of the clickbait has overtaken a lot of the more serious astronomical sites, and they've joined in.

385 gotta post this: stern on the election:

"I love this country. I love what it stands for. I know the history of the world. I've seen what happens when people who are authoritarians - who want to control the vote, fix the vote, and then eventually eliminate the vote - I know what that means and I know the kind of society you'd be in," the SiriusXM radio host told listeners of his eponymous show on Monday.

"I would love to tell the people out there who think that's not a big issue: The sad fact is you've never lived under an authoritarian regime," Stern said.

"To me, there's no more important issue on the table for these elections than saving democracy," he added on the eve of Election Day.

I listened to your podcast last night and kudos on a very professional podcast. All of you sounded smooth and practiced and JJ would have been a great replacement for Rush Limbaugh as far as presence and voice on the podcast. Dave came off as the smooth professional presentation better than most recent political shows that I have seen. CBD had a tough crowd to compete with but did great with some persuasive insight and color commentary on the election.

Nicely done btw and professional grade worthy of being paid to do it.
