Ron Johnson is the first 3 terms Republican senator that I recall in my life time. The Republican party has to adopt the tactics of the Democrats when it comes to Get Out The Vote and other ground game efforts. Contrary to what Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene thinks, I believe that Donald Trump did cost some Republican pick ups. I'm looking at Wisconsin and GOP Gov. candidate Tim Michels, Georgia Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker and Pennsylvania GOP Senate candidate Dr. Oz. Oz and Michels both carpet baggers and Trump endorsed. Both lost and I can't speak for Oz's ground game, Michels really didn't have one. You can buy all the advertising in the world but you have to connect with the voters and a ground game helps with that. The national GOP has to spend money and assist in the ground game of candidates which have a chance of beating weak incumbent Dems. I'm looking at you Mitch McConnell. I didn't look up the numbers for Oz. But Michels under performed Sen. Ron Johnson who eked out a win.
Arizona is no longer a solid Red State. Or am I wrong and have read to much into the governor's and senate race? I know one thing. Arizona is no longer the conservative bastion that gave us Barry Goldwater.

In France, solar just got a huge boost from new legislation approved through the Senate this week that requires all parking lots with spaces for at least 80 vehicles – both existing and new – be covered by solar panels. The new provisions are part of French president Emmanuel Macron’s large-scale plan to heavily invest in renewables, which aims to multiply by 10 the amount of solar energy produced in the country, and to double the power from land-based wind farms. Starting July 1, 2023, smaller carparks that have between 80 and 400 spaces will have five years to be in compliance with the new measures. Carparks with more than 400 spaces have a shorter timeline: They will need to comply with the new measures within three years of this date, and at least half of the surface area of the parking lot will need to be covered in solar panels.
My favorite part of the story? According to the government, this plan, which particularly targets large parking areas around commercial centers and train stations, could generate up to 11 gigawatts, which is the equivalent of 10 nuclear reactors

A murder suspect was caught after allegedly stealing a shopping cart jam-packed with laundry detergent in La Verne on Tuesday. The store’s manager was seen chasing after the man in the parking lot.
My wife worries a lot about someone grabbing one of our twin boys while she’s strapping the other one into his car seat. A similar scenario just happened in a Walmart parking lot in Warner Robins, Georgia where a 67-year-old man forcefully took a child out of a car and whisked the child into the woods behind the store. Thankfully, a good guy with a gun saw the horrific crime in progress and interrupted the bad guy as police say he tried to strangle the child.

Sorry, but every single person I've ever met who smoked pot regularly (and I've met a lot of them) was a dissipated slacker whose life was at least three-fourths of the way to being totally screwed up. If I wanted to live around people like that, I'd move to California.

Yeah, that wasn't the point of my comment. My point is the shitty amendment that was passed (I voted against it) now makes up 20% of our state constitution.
And while our legislature has had immense courage on gun rights, they have dropped the ball on "you're just free to do your own thing" - or what I'd call the 9th amendment:
The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.
But #conservatives tend to forget about that one, since it doesn't tell them explicitly what to think about something.

I'm not so offended by what Trump did during the campaign - there's a lot of blame to go around.
However, since the polls closed, Trump has:
Explained that this was a great Republican victory.
Explained that almost everyone he endorsed won (lots of endorsements of people in safe seats).
Rejoiced that a Republican who chose to criticize him lost his election.
Explained that he got more votes in Florida in 2020 than DeSantis did in 2022.

I don't know what's going to happen next, but since I was so wrong in my election predictions, maybe I'll just be wrong about DeSantis too. I've said all along that he would never challenge Trump for the '24 nomination, because given Trump's level of support, there was no discernible benefit for him.

The downside is it only works on specific manufacturers and models. The upside is it automatically covers every device in your home at the same monthly cost as a single device running the application. Pretty reasonable in my eyes, but I'm not an IT guru. One, it will raise gobs of money for the state. False. California actually is causing legal growers to lose money because of regulations while many people gleefully buy the cheaper illegal stuff sold by cartels and drug dealers. Other states that try to profit via taxes find the same thing.
Two, it will reduce crime. False, there is no indication that a lot of pot users were locked up --most of the ones cited actually involved criminals with lengthy records where the cops were desperate to hold them on some charge for public safety. Also see plea bargains where serious dealers got knocked down to possession. In states with legalization, there is no indication whatsoever that it reduced crime or even other drug use.
Three, people will not drive on it or allow animals or children to get ahold of it. False on all counts. It is actually more difficult to detect a legally stoned driver but they can be just as deadly. A certain demographic enjoys riding around being stoned. And no, people do not drive better when stoned--no evidence for that whatsoever.

Pooky just got one, and he was trained *not* to do that. Instead, he's supposed to redirect the dog's attention or give it the command "make a friend," in which case you should be prepared for JT to happily lick your hand and aim for pets. JT is there for Pooky's emotional stability (a full-time job), although we try to let him be a dog as much as possible.

In the 80s, THC content was 12 - 15% for the good stuff. Now, I've seen it as high as 24% at the stores in downtown Denver.
Recently, I've seen "studies" that claim anything over 19% is just a waste and some folks I've talked to at the stores say that's what's going around the industry. This is just my subjective anecdote, but it's pretty clear it doesn't matter what the truth or reality is, people have a knee-jerk emotional reaction, and facts and logic only hurt the fee-fees.

I had a new hip put in a few years ago, and the pain while waiting for the operation was more than I've had before. I've had many surgeries, so i) I know pain and ii) I also had some good painkillers left over. Doubling up on my painkillers did not touch it.
My doc prescribed medical weed, I tried it, and I am now a believer in its medical application. It allowed me to sleep when before I'd roll around for hours trying to find a position that didn't cause agony.
I will also say this: I do not know how anyone can do it recreationally. I'd do one or two puffs on a vape and I needed to lie down right away. It did not make me feel good or euphoric in any way. I felt nauseated, to be honest. Why the hell anyone would do that by choice is beyond me.
I haven't used it in a long time, and now live where it's illegal (no medical use is allowed either) so I won't do it again, but it really was a God-send.

Hides your search history from your service provider but not your ip address from them. It does help conceal your ip when logging on here etc.
But, be aware that basically a dark van can be picking up your EMF and read your keystrokes and your monitor simply by the radiation it puts out. Same as they can 'see' inside your house using your wireless devices to create images by signals bouncing around .
VPNs are mostly best for keeping your online banking and purchasing a bit safer and depriving google of a bit of revenue as your data becomes more imprecise to sell. They can still triangulate your data using credit card/cell phone and system fingerprinting to figure out who you are if not blocked.

On the medical side of things, I will be kind of flexible. I've heard repeatedly that it does relieve pain, and there are lots of drugs that can be very beneficial if used medically, but which you would never want to be taken recreationally.
I've always suspected, though, that a lot of "medical marijuana" cases have less to do with chronic pain and more to do with ailments being made up to get one's hands on the stuff. Not all by any means, of course.

It was strange - the pain was still there, but almost like in a compartment... And in a few seconds your mind starts to wander (think typical stoner) and you've moved over a couple of compartments and it's just not there. I could always go back to that compartment (like when a stoner re-joins the conversation) and sure enough it still hurt, so you just let your mind wander and drift off.

I had a passing acquaintance with a family whose autistic son had a service dog. The dog helped to (re)direct him, act as a friend / hug getter (for pressure), and probably some other stuff that I didn't see (guard dog maybe). The dog was also incredibly friendly. It seemed to do wonders for the boy.
A lot of people, some that I know personally, get their dogs certified as "service" just so that they can bring them in stores or places they'd otherwise be restricted from. It's a pet peeve of mine (pun intended I guess), really pisses me off because these wonderful animals are so helpful to those who need them.

I don't disagree with any of that. But, it's not Trump's fault that Oz lost. He would have lost even worse without Trump's support. He was a horrible candidate.
It goes back to the primary. Trump vs McConnell was what it really was. McConnell lost the primary. Trump won, but it was a Pyrrhic victory.
Many want to make Trump 100% responsible for the wasted opportunity. But McConnell is a swamp creature and must be ousted before we can make any progress on the right's agenda.

In practical terms though, the laws have been unenforceable for some time. On drugs, you pretty much have to do what the Chinese Communist did or eventually, everything will become legalized and a certain percentage will commit crimes, will do awful acts towards others, will destroy their health, and kill themselves with it.
Total legalization of all drugs will result in a massive hit on the most vulnerable of people in health, in family abuse, in death, and to the public.
Total enforcement means an overbearing state and harsh punishments even death for both users and dealers. So there will be a societal cost to that as well.
While the "war on drugs" is unwinnable like Vietnam, legalizing them will simply introduce a war on society and vulnerable individuals. Not sure what the answer is.

You're not used to it, so you have no command over it. Its different for everybody. I never heard of anybody getting nauseous from it, ever, like never, but I don't know any late comers. Everybody I knew started when all that was available was the kaboom of weed and you can burn 15 joints a day, so they are seasoned and battle hardened when it comes to weed, and none of them are stoners or wastoids. After a while you get so seasoned that if you're working on something, and concentrating, and people hand you a joint it will have no effect on you. What we've found works best is to flaunt JT's training-he sits on command, doesn't bark, and pays attention to his handler. The organization that trained JT and Pooky is pushing hard for legislation that would basically be a registry for service dogs. I was horrified when I found out you can print the handler/service animal ID cards online. That card recognizes that the animal and the handler have been through legitimate training, and it's not just the owner's say-so. There are few times that I advocate regulation, and this is one of them.

I agree. I am OK with legal pot consumption and possession. Not stronger drugs.
My main problem is how our culture seems to glorify it. As if being stoned, or doing shrooms, (or even prescription drugs) is a good and normal thing. It is a vice. It should be looked down upon.
Instead I go to reddit and every week there are new "studies" about how all this crap is really good for you. And on TV all the stars brag about being stoned. We need enough laws to make it discouraged not glorified.

My main problem is how our culture seems to glorify it. As if being stoned, or doing shrooms, (or even prescription drugs) is a good and normal thing. It is a vice. It should be looked down upon.

Societal shunning of drug users is how it was done. Few wrote articles about the wonders of opium or cocaine, etc, in the 1800's and they looked down on those that were addicts while keeping them legal at the pharmacy. Cars and modernity changed that because a stoner behind the wheel or using heavy equipment is no better than an alkie. Ditto for now recognizing that substance abuse leads to family violence by some, addiction, and crime. You short circuit your brain, you change your feedback from reality.

There are shows the hold up 400 plus women as something to idolize. There are sitcoms running nightly - several times a night per channel and frequently in the afternoon - that glorify and normalize promiscuous sex. Friends comes to mind.
How many people enjoy those vices and that glorification regularly? I'm serious, because it disgusts me that Jennifer Aniston taught a decade of young girls that you can be a rich-brat who's incompetent at basic waitressing, but fall into a job in fashion design, have a baby without getting married, and pretty much have it all with no serious consequences except maybe the dbag baby-daddy who's really just a man-baby, himself.

Dunno about his expenditures. All big political players treat their campaign stashes like Smaug the dragon by sitting on it. McConnell sat on his ass, the RNC didn't spend its money on fraud, DeSantis raised more (something like $200 million or so) than Trump (170 mill or so) and did not spend other than his own campaign by last account.

A lot of older movies are near-musicals but not quite. I'm hung up on Willy Wonka, the Sound of Music (duh), and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, but I'm sure there are others.
I really like that style of movie, too. It's a shame that seems to have gone away.
Oh well. At least we have Transformers where I can't tell what's happening on the screen during any action scene.

One thing we don't realize is that the 40's and 50's had adults doing some serious drugs under prescription that could kill you easily if taken the wrong way. Speed, Barbituates galore, all kinds of tranquilizers, and so on with alcohol on top of them.

I had a soldier who was a devil worshipper. I had a few others over the years who played at being devil worshippers for attention because they liked Black Sabbath or something, but this one actually was a devil worshipper. It is a weird story, from the car to the candy lady (Truly Scrumptious, which makes sense when you realize it's the guy who wrote the James Bond books), the child hunter...
But it's a neat movie that, when it comes down to it, is sort of a sci-fi / magic film and worth a watch if you happen across it.

I went to Planned Parenthood in college after I met this really nice guy, because I didn't want to get pregnant while we were still in school. I got on the pill and took it religiously, for the same reason.
A few years later, I went off of the pill because that nice guy and I were ready to start a family. And in between kids, I made sure to always use some sort of protection. And the one time that we didn't, we both accepted responsibility for our slip-up.
Any of you who have been to a Texas MoMe have had the pleasure of meeting our "One Hit Wonder", and we can't imagine life without her.

Because I think states that legalize marijuana are playing to progressive hedonism - which is a play for the broken sinful human nature vote. You won't get a more conservative polity by legalizing marijuana.
If you managed to turn the polity truly conservative - IOW they governed themselves well, thereby not requiring governing by the state - then you could legalize marijuana and not have a big problem.

I'm certain there's cheating. I had some citizen election auditors come to my home and they told me of the many ways it's being performed. But it's only possible because election results are somewhat believable and reinforced by the media.
I really don't want to believe that three quarters of Philadelphia residents voted for the brain dead candidate. But I believe it. But I don't wanna believe it. But I do.
