A mama dog is very attentive to keep her puppies out of danger, even when they're in no danger. Or maybe she just wants to keep them out of the way of the human doing work.

The cat has discovered an entirely new way to annoy you.

This dog says "20 bucks, same as in town."

8 I was working on my 40k Chaos Marine army, which seems oddly appropriate to the times we're living in.

Anyhow, a thought for folks to ponder: The Dems don't really have a plan to cheat because the Covid """emergency""" is over, and they can no longer rule by decree. Instead, they sought to pick their opponents by choosing the "Trumpiest" possible GOP primary candidates and donating to them. They assumed that these people would be wildly unpopular and they would coast to easy victory on the twin pillars of Orange Man J6 Bad and Muh Abortion.

The polls at first seemed to support this, so they got complacent. "No, sorry, not fake ballots needed, we're up in every state by 10 points."

And now the worm has turned and they are paralyzed with fear.

"The political project of Trumpism is to replace liberal American democracy with a system where voting rights, civil liberties, and freedom itself are subject to limits imposed by right-wing authorities — not our Constitution or our rule of law."
-- Adam Schiff (Dirtbag-CA)

Adam Schiff, Constitution, rule of law. One of these is not like the other two.
Posted by: Duncanthrax at October 26, 2022 07:37 PM (a3Q+t)

I wish someone would demand they show their work. And citing "opposes no limit abortion" gets no credit.

10 Can someone tell Schiff that we don't have a democracy? We have a constitutional republic.

Posted by: Notsothoreau - move forward at October 26, 2022 07:45 PM (5HBd1)

11 Remember, the cheat of 2020 took time to assemble, and the groundwork was laid months in advance by emergency decrees and lawsuits demanding mail-in ballots. It was further aided by Covid "social distancing" requirements that kept ballot observers away.

Those measures are gone, many states changed the laws about drop boxes, etc. so this time their One Weird Trick was to try to nominate "unelectable" people like the Witch of Maryland and Rape Don't Make Ya Pregnant Guy.

(To be continued...)

12 Hahahah, the cat. Eehhh, Nope

Posted by: Hatari somewhere on Ventura Highway at October 26, 2022 07:46 PM (M+Lyo)

13 A second part of this strategy was to then declare the nominees they boosted to be "beyond the pale" and refuse to debate them, relying on media dominance to frame the narrative. Since all the big media would sing their tunes, they would starve the candidates of any exposure, deny them every platform, and that would be that.

Obviously, it didn't work, and that's why they are scrambling and flailing. We can go into why some other time, but it's clear that the candidates they thought most icky were actually really in tune with American voters. Oopsie!

27 The echo chamber the Dems have made for themselves renders them incapable of any kind of course correction or reasonable appraisal of the outside world. These are people who fake polls and then start to believe them because hey, they're polls!

The self-delusion is remarkable. The wave they are facing is not from a single element, but a combination of terrible decisions. They were able to suppress public opposition for a while, but we're now seeing a preference cascade as people realize that most of the population agrees with them; they're not outliers.

The other problem for the Dems is that local media is decentralized and much harder to manipulate. Moreover, voters in state elections can actually meet the candidates in person. Someone willing to hit the county fairs, shake hands at fireworks displays and join parades will win people over. Hiding in your basement is simply not a viable strategy.

Put another way, people expect more in-person contact with their governor or senator than they do with the president.

But I will not be putting wear and tear on my car and the time saved not driving are factors I cannot put a price on.

Also, I was about 30 seconds between an accident west of Memphis on I-40 that there had to be a fatality and about 5 miles from home after 15 hours of driving a car spun out in front of me. I missed hitting him by inches in rainy weather.

That is me wanting to stay in nice places like the Holiday Inn Express. It does cost more but I feel it is worth it.

There were a bunch of people that took an RV or a camper to the MoMe.

Rancherbob had an area on the ranch for them to park.

Oh, and for the rest of it: it really is amusing that after 4+ years of Trump being very popular, and notably with several historically very donkified demographics, they decided that covertly running Trumpy candidates through the opposition would somehow work out. Maybe they thought that they'd have a mutually destructive war with GOPe, but there again if they thought the establishmentarians would actually be very effective at more than taking potshots at one or two of the most high profile ones, they're totally clueless.

I really wanted a 392 but a couple of problems arose with that route...

1. Stelantis discontinued orange as a color option when they introduced the 392.

2. You are going to have to pay anywhere from 15 - 30k over sticker for a fully optioned 392, which will give a final price well north of 100k.

3. Even if I bought it at that elevated price, I would still have to spend a sh*ton of money to build it up to where my current Wrangler resides.

4. Stuffing a V8 into my currently built and paid for Wrangler is going to cost 35k and at the end of the day I will have a more capable vehicle.

173 Oh, one other Twitter comment. Wikipedia tells me that Rackspace has 6600 employees to Twitter's 7500. For the uninitiated, Rackspace is a remote Internet infrastructure company that a huge number of businesses use for everything from basic-bitch shared web hosting to dedicated co-located server hardware in their network of data centers. There is no way in hell that Twitter's infrastructure needs are anywhere even remotely close to Rackspace. And that's not even getting into the support side of things, which is probably at least half of Rackspace's headcount. Unlike Twitter, they have actual paying customers with actual needs and contractual obligations, not some 'free' service with a low-rent call center and a vague promise that someday there might be an actual business model.

Elon Musk knows this.

One day, we as close to nuclear Armageddon as we've been since the Cuban missle crisis, the next day the power of the federal government is focused on hidden fees. Make me think this while Ukraine thing is b/s.

Although frankly, I wish someone would do something about these "handling" fees on event tickets. Everything is digital, literally no one is handling anything. At least the airline is giving you an extra six inches of legroom with the upcharge.

Oh, I don't think he'll hit their IT department very hard. That probably only represents about 1500 staff, though. 1500 guys who make the spice flow, a couple hundred support and backoffice types, the part of engineering worth keeping (read: the ones who maintain the actual posting-and-display infrastructure, not retarded pet projects) is probably only like 40 guys. And the remaining ~75% of the company does who knows what, but nothing useful and probably nothing good either.

Okemos, outside of Lansing.

I mean, they've been exposed. Threat pretty much neutralized.

It doesn't get national attention but the SoS (who is up for re-election) has lost a slew of court cases regarding rules changes. I'm not saying there will be no shenanigans (Hi, Detroit!) but I don't think it can approach the scale of 2020.

Remember - they have to win THREE statewide elections to succeed. To lose one, is to face a very bad time of it. Right now Dems hold governor, Sec State and AG. That's three times as many blanks per ballot as in 2020, when all they needed was Biden.

Excuse me, Michigan is not Illinois. Detroit has a declining ability to influence statewide elections, which is why Trump carried Michigan in 2016.

The issue in 2020 was that we had all these emergency measures AND an unprecedented effort AND Democrats in key positions AND no one saw it coming.

Don't forget that the tech guys also were hip deep in making it happen. Just as Youngkin was able to win VA, I don't know that these people are going to lift a finger to keep Gretch in the state house.

247 On genderless languages from Quora:

Uralic, Altaic, Korean and Japonic languages lack any sort of grammatical gender. English only has a few remnants of grammatical gender in the form of he,she, his, him, her.

In Sino-Tibetan languages gender is unmarked, although from what I heard it is not completely precise. There is no grammatical gender per se, but a gender can instead be inferred from the way a given sentence is constructed, or so I’ve been told.

Armenian and Persian are Indo-European languages that completely lost their grammatical gender, although some archaic gender markers can sometimes be used in poetry for certain poetic effects in both cases.

iirc, English is one of the few languages that has dropped it.
Posted by: Tom Servo

English still has gender for describing a person by their hair color, but even that is going away. "A blonde" or "a brunette" should only refer to females, "a blond" or "a brunet" to males. But I've never seen "a brunet" used anywhere.

And far-Eastern languages have always had no grammatical gender; Chinese, Thai, Korean, Japanese, probably others.

This depends heavily on what you mean by IT guy. If you mean people that maintain servers, networks, keep computers running, they can be fairly interchangeable.

If you're talking about web or script programmers, absolutely.

If you're talking about software architects or proper computer science trained developers, I vehemently disagree. Most of those guys need a good ten years of experience to season and need a year or more of rooting around and changing company code before they're at top proficiency. And it's not easy to find top guys if you are outside of a software development hub like Silicon Valley, San Francisco, NYC, Seattle, parts of TX, or Boston.

If that continues and turnout is lower, it will most likely be democrat voters who are staying home and not voting. Beto doesn't enthuse anybody, and because the Dem's have focused to heavily on race baiting, there is now a very race-conscious element to voter turnout. Bluntly put - and this comes from watching the last 20 years of Texas returns - if there is no candidate on the ballot that is especially appealing to the Black voting block, that group tends to simply Not Show Up. There are *no* prominent Black candidates on the Texas Ballot this year (ignore the safe inner city Dallas and Houston races which are mostly pro-forma now) and I think that voting block is mostly going to sit this one out.

"ess" is the Frenchified version of "ix".

365 Just getting started. Entertaining, but C.S. Forester remains my go-to for such. I suppose I'll have to move on to much-touted O'Brian sooner or later.

Forester is the king of sea adventure novels, none of the others can match him. O'Brian took it to the level of literature, and when he's at his best, nobody matches his writing or storytelling. There are some good newer series out there too like Stockwin's Kydd series. Really in sea novels there's a host of good series out there.

378 In PA you can register to vote, request a mail in ballot, receive the ballot, fill it in, and mail it back all without verifying your identity or eligibility to vote. The county is supposed to hold your ballot a d not count it until you go in and show ID. We all know that a significant number of those ballots will be "accidentally " counted or there will be a last minute lawsuit with a carefully selected judge who will demand they all be counted to avoid disenfranchisement.
