Doggie Ding Dong Ditch Cafe

englandcountry.jpg
A rural English town

(The debate thread for Lumpy the Murder-Simp is still live, below.)

Family puts a doggie doorbell on the door so that the dog can tell them when he wants to go in and out. What they didn't count on is that every pet wants to control their owners.

How to deal with leftists.

This horse, like me, enjoys "belly rubs" from an enthusiastic girl.

I'll smack the snausage out of your mouth, bitch.

Boop.

I was the only American on the plane in. Nikola Tesla baggage pickup was piled high with unattended luggage from previous flights! Mountains of suitcases and bags, thrown into more or less random piles. Weird.
A ton of Mid-East Migrant Types clogging up border control, as none of them had visas, just sheaves of paperwork proving nothing.
Belgrade has a nervous, frenetic feel.
The cab driver on the way in 'tried' to overcharge me, and I knew he was doing it, but I paid him anyway. I didn't have to pay what he asked, I just did it. It was a conscious choice over 10 bucks.
Inflation here is crazy and the Euro is in freefall.

50 So this happened: the 48" 2-tube fluorescent fixture over my laundry area crapped out. I am out of good 48" tubes, and it might be a bad ballast, too. So I rigged in an ancient surface mount porcelain socket with nifty exposed terminals, the kind made for knob and tube wiring. Put a "100-watt equivalent" LED bulb in it. Plugged it in. The bulb lit, but was "warm white" and dim, maybe 40-watt equivalent. brand new out of the box. Got the third bulb out of the box, tried that, and it works fine. Probably some light-fingered WalMart customer did the old switcheroo. But I will take it back, and see what they say.

99 I watched two crows harassing a red tailed hawk as it rode a thermal higher and higher, then when it was way up, it nosed over into a stoop and just dove. The crows were left far behind so they apparently decided to go home.

Hawks are P-38s, fast, but not nimble, built for dive and climb attacks. The woods behind us are filled with Zero birds that harass them.

Occasionally a Zero bird that flies too predictably has its whole day ruined because it didn't look up . . .

Little birds get away with harassing raptors due to their maneuverability, mostly. Crows are probably big and slow enough for a hawk to get after them if it wants to.

This spring during nesting season, I saw a hawk perched in a tree, with about eleventy various songbirds taking dives at it. Hawk just sat there, like "I'm TRYING to spot a field mouse or something for dinner, and you are getting on my nerves. Keep it up and I WILL go find one of your nests."

here's my fear: As I was watching it, I got used to Fettermanese the way you get used to an accent. I began completing his sentences for him and judging his " " " answers " " " based on my best guess as to what he was probably *trying to say.* So I was, in my head, making up better answers for him than his retard brain could.

I think 90% of the public did this, including the people voting against him. People naturally start "translating" odd or accented speech.

Our farm in eastern PA had stone fences. Grampa said the location of each of them was, for the most part, random. It's where the draft horse got tired of pulling the rock sled. So, at that point, off the monster rocks went. And then were built up over the next 150 years.

New England has this same feature although obviously not as old. You will find random stone walls all over including in my town that mark previous property boundaries or trails.

I have conservation land directly behind my backyard that was originally farmland, well after we got rid of the pesky injuns, and there are remnants of stone walls running through it.

re: the Stone Walls - I was fortunate enough to take an extended trip to the UK, and we stayed for a couple of days in the delightful little town of Ripon, near York. Very old, magnificent cathedral built in the 1200's. All over the small town were these magnificent stone wall, 8 feet tall, 2 feet thick. Impenetrable. I could tell the top 2 feet on all of them looked different than the rest, so out of curiosity I asked. The local guide said "Oh Bishop Nordick built the first part in the 1200's with the cathedral, but then in 1560 Bishop Hubert decided they were too short so he added 2 feet to all of them. And it's been like that ever since."

Stuff over there is really, amazingly old.

176 Hunting season is coming up, and the best thing to have in proximity of your line of sight is a crow or magpie. They give away the game and make it easy to shoot your deer and elk with minimal effort.

Posted by: Dr. Bone at October 25, 2022 09:34 PM (geVLo)

177 A murder of crows is indeed, a gang of insolent teenagers.

An individual crow is a standup comic under the spotlight, doing a blue set.

Its the multiplier of many crows crow-ding out the space that reaches a critical mass and trouble erupts.

A hand-raised crow can be as loyal as a dog, and they truly bond with their owner. And constantly remind their owner of that bond. Loudly. Frequently. Insistently. Great pets, if that's yer thing!

Ha. Yeah, that's a bunch. I'm told the crow calls (including electric) are sounds of crows in distress and will attract them but then make them reluctant to come around because they're smart enough to know something isn't right and the distress call shouldn't be happening.

Might be worth a try.

Few years back, we took an Inside Passage Alaskan cruise, with a Port of Call at Ketchikan, AK. Went on a salmon fishing charter (four passengers) and the skipper dropped anchor in a very secluded inlet. Said "watch this", and whistled like you would to call-in a dog.

Which is when a full-grown Bald Eagle dove down out of a tall tree from about 200 ft. away, swooped down to an "even with the gunnels" pass, and took a small codfish right out of the skipper's hand.

THAT is how you have a "pet" eagle, and don't worry 'bout where it shits. (you could feel the wind blowing out from the Eagle's wings as it flew by. AMAZING!)

Go get those smoked ham hocks or some smoked bacon and cook that in with the beans. Another option is to use cumin.
If you have a ham bone, or bone broth that will work too. At the very least toss in a table spoon of lard.

I have had the most success with a ham bone, other stuff doesn't give as much flavor. It is way better that way, but just plain cooked beans are beans, and its way easier to get them in a can than sort, boil for 273 hours, and serve.
