Partisan Judge Sentences Steve Bannon to Four Months in Jail for Refusing to Comply With Congressional Subpoena

How many months in jail did Eric Holder get, again, for refusing to comply with Congressional subpeonas? Zero, right?

Disclose.tv
@disclosetv

JUST IN - DC judge sentences Steve Bannon to 4 months in prison and $6,500 in fines for contempt of Congress.

Sean Davis
@seanmdav

FBI attorney Kevin Clinesmith fabricated evidence against the president and his campaign in order to get an illegal spy warrant.

Despite being convicted of a felony, he didn’t spend a single day in prison, and his law law license was restored.

Bannon didn't talk to Congress.

They also brought this case to trial and sentencing very quickly, didn't they? You wouldn't want to risk Republicans winning Congress and withdrawing the subpoena.

I can only repeat: First order of business in 2024: Pass a law allowing defendants and prosecutors to move to relocate any legal action involving a political actor to a politically neutral jurisdiction. No more Home Court Advantage for leftwing Democrats.

The minimum sentence would have been sixty days for Steve Bannon. The lawless criminal organization the DOJ sought six months. The judge decided to split the difference instead of asking, "Say, why is this the first prosecution of a political actor for contempt of Congress? Why was Eric Holder never tried?"

Meanwhile, the disgraced FBI agent Tim Thibault, who claimed the Hunter Biden laptop was "Russian disinformation" to get Joe Biden elected, is refusing to cooperate with GOP members of the House Judiciary Committee.

When he refuses a subpoena next year, will he be going to jail, do you think?
Or nah?

Disgraced former FBI agent Timothy Thibault is refusing to cooperate with GOP members of the House Judiciary Committee as part of their planned probe into the FBI's conduct surrounding Hunter Biden, The Post has learned.

The stonewall could set up showdown should Republicans retake the House next year.

In an Oct. 7 letter from his attorney, Thibault said, "Concerning the request for an interview, because the subject matter pertains to sensitive law enforcement information and/or pending investigations, our client is not in a position to accept this invitation at this juncture."

Thibault also said that he would not comply with an earlier letter sent by Republican committee members demanding he preserve documents from his days with the FBI.

"Our client is now retired from the Federal Bureau of Investigation ... As such, he no longer possesses an FBI laptop or mobile device, and he no longer has access to the FBI's records and materials," the letter said.

Thibault is facing scrutiny from Republicans for his role in allegedly suppressing the FBI's Hunter Biden investigation before the election.

"Thibualt can refuse to cooperate now, but can't hide from a Congressional subpoena in the future," said a person close to committee Republicans.

Oh yeah? Think the corrupt DOJ believes in equal justice?

Post columnist Miranda Devine reported wrote last month that Thibault had been assigned as the agency "point man" to manage Hunter Biden's business partner Tony Bobulinski -- whose revelations about the first son's shady dealings went ignored by the agency.

In October 2020, Thibault ordered that a probe into Hunter Biden's alleged "criminal financial and related activity" be closed, an agency whistleblower told Sen. Chuck Grassley in July.

FBI Director Christopher Wray said the allegations against Thibault were "deeply troubling." The agent resigned from the FBI in August.

By the way, an Obama-era official is demanding that Durham keep his report on FBI malfeasance secret, and that Merrick Garland refuse to release it, because it could... harm the FBI's reputation.

Note he demanded that Mueller make his report public.

But that's (D)ifferent, you see.

Special counsel John Durham should not have the final say in his investigation seeking out misconduct in the FBI's Russia inquiry, says an Obama-era spokesman for the Justice Department.

Matthew Miller, who was director of the Justice Department's public affairs office from 2009 to 2011, argued Attorney General Merrick Garland, or another top official at the agency, should review the final report Durham is reportedly expected to prepare by the end of the year before making a decision on releasing its findings to the public.

The challenge to Garland to take a "pause" followed a jury in Alexandria, Virginia, finding Russian national Igor Danchenko not guilty Tuesday on several false statements charges over allegations that the main source of British ex-spy Christopher Steele lied to the FBI about his sourcing for the now-discredited anti-Trump dossier. MSNBC host Alex Wagner asked Miller whether Durham's endeavor is coming to an end.

"His cases are over. I think it's clear that he's not going to bring any more charges in this investigation, but one of the requirements for special counsels under the regulations is that they write a confidential report and submit it to the attorney general, and the attorney general then makes a decision whether to release that report to the public," Miller said on Alex Wagner Tonight.

Miller made a comparison to special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation and then-Attorney General William Barr's controversial rollout of his report in 2019.

"I think Merrick Garland will be under a lot of pressure from Republicans to release that report, but I have to say, this circumstance is very different from the Mueller investigation, where, obviously, the attorney general, Bill Barr, did release that report," he said.

"It's different because in that case, the subject of that investigation could not be charged, and so it was appropriate for the department to make its findings public, so Congress could decide whether to impeach and convict the then-sitting president," Miller added. "That is not the case here, so to release a report in this instance -- given what we know about the way that Durham has behaved, some of his inappropriate public statements during this investigation, the poor judgments he has made in bringing these charges -- to release a report publicly and let him have the final word I think probably unfairly tarnish some people at the FBI that we know he holds ill will to based on some of the things he said in this most recent trial."

(D)ifferent!

7 Bannon's argument was 100% valid: by their own rules, this is not a valid committee and nobody has to show up to be there for it. Any judge that even questioned this is not worthy of the name and was plainly just biased to hate Bannon and support the invalid committee.

Got to say, I'm sick of hearings from both sides and I'm sick of impeachment circuses that have no chance of succeeding and the argument can be made that impeachments made the targets stronger while not removing them, see Clinton and Trump as analogs.

All I want and what we desperately need is regular order, real legislation, real budgets and the advancement of an agenda broadly supported by GOP voters.

29 MLK went to jail briefly in Birmingham and came out bigger than ever. Bannon will do the same.

That is, if the appeal isn't successful and the courts don't stay his sentence pending appeal. Note that he will have to appeal to the DC Circuit, where he will lose. It will take the Supreme Court taking up his case and ruling that the J6 Committee is unlawful. The Supremes give a lot of deference to Congress to make its own rules. I don't know if they would go so far as to support putting people in jail who don't agree with Congress's rules, though. Cromwell is where that leads.

You probably wouldn't have had President Trump without that guy. Or Brad Parscale, another person of highly questionable character.

I agree. The system is completely broken and can neither fix its self or be fixed through the system. I see only three possible outcomes:

1- The citizens of the USA rise up and overthrow the system.
2- A strong man takes over and acts as tyrant, diminishing or even eliminating the system
3- God intervenes with national revival and reformation, leading to change from within.

If you're in the club - and most people they haul in front of Congress are - then you can ignore them, shit on them, lie to them and dismiss them with impunity and nothing will happen. If you're not in the club and you try *any* of that, you're going to jail and having your money stolen.

Seems like the contemptuous skepticism towards the whole thing has been completely vindicated.

And there wasn't/won't be even a head-fake towards even looking into the massive, massive scandal of systematic political surveillance of Americans using technically highly restricted data-gathering, the 702 "about queries" thing - which involved an FBI-contracted operation *located in the Dem law firm* involved in much of this other abuse (if I have this all straight)? 3. When the AG slow walks or declines to prosecute, impeach him. Create a conflict of interest requiring a special prosecutor. Have fun.

4. When the rats start squealing on each other and on the Big Guy, then start a "national conversation" on whether Biden should be impeached and dare him to veto legislation. Set the stage for 2024. Say unlike the dems, we won't put the nation through an impeachment circus. Just vote him and his minions out.

Ihere are some states where this is not true, but I have 0% confidence in change at the federal level.

To cause change at the federal level, the Congress will need to find some balls and start attacking structures that are now pushing 100 years old. They won't do it. They could mandate a return to normal budgetary order, starts slashing funding for misbehaving agencies and shut down the government if it gets vetoed, start passing legislation to amend and restrict (or even repeal) the various enabling acts that created these agencies and gave them essentially unlimited autonomy, etc.

They will do none of it. It appears that all of them are either being enriched by and on Team Deep State or they are terrified of malicious prosecution and personal destruction if they try to change anything.

Congress has the power of the purse. If they want to pass a law, and Biden vetos it, they are able to pass no budget, a budget for only some parts of the government, or a budget that Biden does not approve of until he agree to pass the law.

No GOP congress has used this power in living memory, but it is the whole point of having congress.

235 Tulsi has endorsed Tudor Dixon and will be coming to Michigan to campaign for her.

Posted by: Jen the original at October 21, 2022 11:18 AM

What exactly does Tulsi Gabbard's support bring to either Kari Lake in AZ or Tudor Dixon in MI? She is a known left-wing failed Democrat candidate for President and known WEF Young Leader.

She is either (1) working to sabotage their candidacies by associating them with a Democrat WEF stooge and cooling conservative support for Lake and Dixon or (2) she is announcing her defection from the WEF and Democrats and thinks some bipartisan grrrlpower will attract more Democrat women to vote for the Republican female candidates. My hope is this is the latter, but my cynicism of politicians tells me this is the former.

That said, it could be option (3), a Democrat WEF stooge cozying up to two female eventual leaders to have an in with them to push WEF influence with them in the future. Anyone associated with the WEF should never be trusted and Lake and Dixon would be wise to tell Gabbard to kindly f-off.

And in any case, we're not even talking about a fundamental change in federal governance.

The GOP is a party that, incredibly, just rolled over for outrageous and even illegal conduct aimed at crippling a president of their own party, and the most effective one in a generation at that. It got me wondering. If the DC Court assigned Bannon's case to Nichols then it was meant as an invitation to not sentence him so as to imply that Trumpers were no different than Obamites and Clintonistas. But Nichols did sentence him; thus making it a legal and moral standard within the court. Maybe they are playing both politics and setting a moral standard. Don't know, but the setup was to allow Bannon off the hook. By sentencing him all of Deep State has to say he did the right thing. You don't show up to interview for a high level office job in stained jeans and a hoodie. You don't go on your first date wearing your favorite most comfortable pajamas with the hole in the toes. You shave and comb your hair.

Dressing appropriate for the work and setting is a basic adult skill. You're going to work on the car? Don't wear a ball gown. You're going to wash dishes? Don't wear a tux. This stuff used to be well known and understood.
