Boston University Uses Gain-of-Function Genetic Manipulation to Create Deadly Variant of Covid with 80% Lethality Rate

Defund.

Deb Heine:

Boston University scientists have reportedly created a lethal new COVID strain by combining Omicron and the original Wuhan strain in a laboratory.

According to the DailyMail.com, the hybrid virus managed to kill 80 percent of mice in a gain-of-function research study that critics say shouldn't have been allowed. The research has not been peer-reviewed, the Mail reported.

Professor Shmuel Shapira, a leading scientist in the Israeli Government, told the Mail: "This should be totally forbidden, it's playing with fire."

Gain-of-function is highly controversial research that involves making pathogens and viruses more lethal and virulent in a laboratory. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) director Anthony Fauci provided grants to the U.S.-based research organization EcoHealth Alliance to fund gain-of-function research at China's Wuhan Institute of Virology from 2014 to 2019.

It is widely believed that this research is the origin of the COVID pandemic.

Dr. Richard Ebright, a chemist at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, told DailyMail.com that: "The [Boston U] research is a clear example of gain of function research."

He added: "If we are to avoid a next lab-generated pandemic, it is imperative that oversight of enhanced potential pandemic pathogen research be strengthened."

We denied people reasonable access to potentially effective therapeutics, while we killed countless with bad policies and forced an experimental "vaccine" on people for financial gain of a few, and while we still officially deny any connection to the sudden suddenitis with which all the young healthy guinea pigs are dropping dead.

Why would anyone expect China solely or partially to pay a price for something we (our government) did to ourselves?

Former top lawyers at the gun control advocacy organization Brady have formed a new gun policy venture. And they're registering as foreign agents of the Mexican government as part of it.

The new advocacy group, Global Action on Gun Violence which has not yet formally launched, intends to represent foreign governments or others rallying against the gun industry in lobbying and litigation. Lowy explained that the goal was to go beyond litigation, suggesting that the group would lobby around legislation and regulation of gun companies on behalf of foreign governments or people outside the U.S.

Earlier this month, Global Action on Gun Violence quietly filed paperwork with the DOJ under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, with Lowy and Elizabeth Burke, who was also an attorney at Brady, registering as agents of Mexico.

Sort of... Reading the paper in this case, it looks like they were trying to see how Omicron differs from the original Wuhan strain, specifically in the spike protein. So they weren't doing gain-of-function research in the sense of trying to make Covid more lethal, but rather trying to shuffle existing mutations back into the ancestral type to see how the virus changed in function over time (which is not illegal, or even necessarily unethical). The massively increased lethality seems to be entirely accidental and unanticipated (omicron is way less lethal than the Wuhan strain).

This is as much an optics issue as anything. BU's NIEID institute is one of the places that works on things like Ebola vaccines, so if anyone is qualified to work on this kind of question, it's this group. However, they should *not* have published this on bioarxiv.

188 Here's an idea. As a response let's pay bio pharmaceutical companies billions of taxpayer monies to create a "vaccine". Let's test it on the public writ large through a misinformation campaign and punitive measures such as firing people from their jobs, kicking them out of the military or generally shaming them from participating in society. Lets hide any of the verifiably bad or deathly effects. Let's force people to wear masks and social distance. Let's also force them to close schools and businesses, generally wrecking any semblance of normal life. Let's then conspire with the social media companies to silence anyone who doesn't agree with what we are doing or reports facts that don't agree with the narrative straight out of dystopia.

Wait. Has this been done already?

Yup, they never even stopped accelerating the program, it seems. This is crazy to watch. One global disaster happened, and they just say "ok, at least that proves it'll work. On to Phase II."

Our ruling classes are completely decoupled from reality...

These people in the CDC, EcoHealth Alliance, etc. got straight-up busted for fencing taxpayer cash to third-world shithole laboratories in countries that are enemies of the United States, so they could do GoF research forbidden by our own government.

None of them got in any trouble, and now government-funded research labs right here in the US are turning it up to 11, and weaponizing the shit right in the middle of Boston, FFS.

My opinion, of course, but let's get this out of the way right now, so we don't get disappointed when it doesn't happen:

China's role in unleashing COVID-19 will never - never - be addressed. Why? Because they know (and we know) that the USA was just as involved in its creation as China was in the unleashing. As such, the USA is potentially on the hook for at least one trillion dollars - if not even more. Fauci, Biden, the CDC et al know this, and as such the truth will never, ever see the light of day. Do you know that there are DIY gene splicing kits for sale right now. $130. You're welcome.

But what if that at-home science allows novices to dabble in some serious stuff, like splicing genes? One Bay Area scientist has done just that: He's marketing a $130 gene-editing kit that could bring the popular technology CRISPR into kitchens, basements and garages nationwide.

Oh yeah, the BSL-4 labs at Ft. Dietrich got shut down back in like 2018 by the CDC because they were being horribly mismanaged (Obama appointed director forced out everybody competent who knew what they were doing).

There aren't really any (publically aknowledged) BSL-4 labs in really remote areas at this point. Probably in part because of the reputation of places like the Soviet bioweapons lab Aralsk 7 on Vozrozhdeniya Island, which had a number of 'field tests' go awry with basically no oversight.

As we were clearing out our stuff, a light went on in the storage unit 20 ft away from us. Then it went off. Then there was some moaning. Eventually, the light went back on. Turns out that a hooker rented out a unit for her 'business'. We ended up telling the receptionist as we were leaving, and they were shocked. They knew she visited her locker a lot, but couldn't definitively put it together until we told them.

Much hilarity ensued, I bet.

OTOH, can we maybe not make ANY derivatives of pathogenic viruses to "see what makes them tick" ever again? That didn't really work out well last time, assuming that was what they were really trying to do in Wuhan. I actually don't believe that last, because I think this was a "squib" bioweapon that got out of hand, but even if you did believe it, it's an amazingly bad idea.

not exactly

they took what made Omi more "catchy" and added that to the original SARS II

which wasn't as catchy as reported at the time

so now it's a very very catchy but more virulent SARS II, oh and lab-created

also, the negative affects on the animals were more neurological then respiratory, which is worrying. so it acted differently on the mice than the OG strain

There is no clear, clean path for evolution. It doesn't work that way at all. You cannot predict ahead of time with any exactitude what the new variant of anything will be.

Look how often the CDC fucks up the flu vaccine and misses the type entirely. And that's a process that occurs every freaking year with a very well-known agent.
Seen in hindsight, the path of evolution may be clear. And yet there's no clear way to predict things ahead of time.
The creation of super deadly viruses has no function beyond the creation of super deadly viruses.

||RESEARCH PANEL, INCLUDING BU’S GERALD KEUSCH, SAYS PANDEMIC CAME FROM NATURE, NOT A LAB
Original article from Science by Jon Cohen. October 10, 2022

The acrimonious debate over the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic flared up again this week with a report from an expert panel concluding that SARS-CoV-2 likely spread naturally in a zoonotic jump from an animal to humans—without help from a lab.

“Our paper recognizes that there are different possible origins, but the evidence towards zoonosis is overwhelming,” says co-author Danielle Anderson, a virologist at the University of Melbourne. The report, which includes an analysis that found the peer-reviewed literature overwhelmingly supports the zoonotic hypotheses, appeared in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) on 10 October.||

423 it might actually be gain of function, idk. But the 80% lethality rate was "no change" from the lethality rate of the original (for these particular mice).

Posted by: illiniwek at October 18, 2022 01:12 PM (Cus5s)

You are doing GOF techniques. You are using the precursors for COVID19 and other mutated strains. You are splicing things together and observing their function in GOF targets.

You are doing GOF research. The outcome (X% more or less lethal) is completely irrelevant to the question of whether you are doing GOF research.
