A Bottle Of White. A Bottle Of Red. Perhaps An ONT Instead.

So, I have a buddy who is a prospector who identifies as non-bianary. Just discovered gold on property bought last year. Apparently there really is gold in them/their hills!

Friday night! Time for some happiness!

Yeah, happened at Circus Circus to us on a "free" trip. Wife saw him, thought it was me at first, except too skinny and wearing a cowboy hat. Felt my throat being squeezed. There was no (living) one there. Lights on, nobody.

Never going back to Circus Circus. forget if that was the 12th floor or not...been too many years.

18 I suppose somebody has to ask: was that gold discovery related in any way to the prospector's non-binary identification?

Because this could change gold-miner movies, a lot.

19 Step 6 -- Deploy anti-cowboy measures.

Methinks there needs to be a bit more detail here. Possibilities :

Pop in your well worn VHS copy of Brokeback Mountain. The garrett solution.

Shout "Yippee ki-yay, mofo!"

Tell him "Shane, you're being paged".

Evening, y'all.

34 Cat Ass Trophy, I got willowed

The Whiskey Rebellion was where Washington's government needed to satisfy its debts from France and from the Continentals they printed to pay for the Revolution and promised full face redemption (due to the bankers buying them up at a knock down price on the secondary market and insisting on it) and he needed money.
Hamilton suggested enforcing liquor taxes on the Pennsylvanian mountain farmers who brewed whiskey to deal with their excess grain crops, and when they tarred and feathered the tax collectors and sent them home, Washington and Madison sent Henry Lighthorse Lee with an army to bring them to heel.
It could have broken the confederacy of states.

37 William Devane was in an episode of NCIS where he was supposed to be some kind of bad-ass spook. All I saw was a fag who did not know how to hold a hand-gun. he was doing that '70s police procedural where he held it like someone who had never fired a weapon. Like it would twist his wrist if he fired. I never liked him. he was woefully miscast in that episode.

121 48, I can only speak about London on this subject, and my info is dated.

There are many outstanding chippies or fish and chip joints. The problem is there are way more crappy ones. Some are four the tourists and some are run by people who don’t know what they are doing, or don’t care.

Nothing novel about this, there is a lot of crappy Italian food and gelato in Italy. The ones who do it right will always be the exception and stand out.

I found four or five great fish and chips places in London. Of course there are many more but they have over a thousand. Sometimes the hunt is the fun, other times it can be a pain.

For context, I cant think of a legit chippie at home in my part of the USA I would call great.

256 Read this in the news. This pisses me off. Mass panic in crowds is dangerous.

"According to the Dallas Police Department, officers responded to Fair Park after a large crowd came running out of the gate around 8:50 p.m.

When officers investigated the incident, they determined there was no active shooter and no shots were fired. There were also no injuries reported, officials said.

Karissa Condoianis, a spokesperson for the fair, told WFAA that some fairgoers were 'trying to create chaos' by running through the fairgrounds."

I had to look upthread to remember my point. It had to do with hamburgers lol. In many parts of the USA you will see restaurants that call themselves Tex Mex. And on their sign or menu they have Pupusas. An obvious sign the owners are from El Salvador, not Mexico. Or maybe they just cater to an El Salvador crowd. Either way, I have never had great Tex Mex at a place that serves pupusas.

I'd certainly try them. But as I understand it. There's a certain compound in them in relatively high concentration. If you've got the gene, you taste that compound and it tastes bitter (I think there are variations, some will taste it more than others), and just overwhelms all the other flavors.

If you don't have the gene, you don't taste that compound, and you can enjoy the other flavors.

One time at an ADT, the first day in the field we went all day, a very hot day, without water, breakfast, or lunch... Dinner was, get this, two (2) slices of white bread with a drizzle of spaghetti sauce over it! Logistics problem, I assume...

Anyway, after receiving this magnificent bounty courtesy of the USAR and Fort Drum, I walked a short way from the line and drop kicked my ration about 20 feet in the air and said some words, which led to me to being taken aside for intensive counselling...

I was quite grateful for the untreated sewage from the "water" buffalo later that evening, though...

There is also an asparagus pee smell gene. When you eat asparagus, there is some compound there that is metabolized and excreted by the kidneys quickly. Everyone does this.

But not everyone can smell it. At one time they thought maybe only some people metabolize it in the stinky way, but then they found, no, it was just some people couldn't smell it.

I've got that gene too. I love asparagus, and I definitely pee outside if at all possible a few hours after eating it.

453 387 Rhomboid, research about cigars? Sure little has been done because few of the researchers and those that pay them care. I remember once hearing cigars had ten times the nicotine, tar, etc of cigs. Obviously the key here is premium cigars are not inhaled by 90 percent of smokers. Sure you inhale some breathing in a cigar room.

It is like smokeless tobacco, dip, etc. In the US they decided many decades ago that they were all The same, and all bad. To say one is less dangerous in even a superficial way is to destroy the pact they made.

I have been to B.A. (Long story.) Granted, it was thirty years ago but back then, even the Mickey D's were delicious. Any steak I had out was sheer cookery perfection (a lovely red interior) and a most delicious and tender taste of beef on a plate I have ever had. Seriously, ever. I even had a late Saturday night parrilla (built in house grill) feast in the suburbs of all sorts of cuts of beef (plus ice cream delivery on a moped at around 3 in the morning). The beef back then was un-frickin'-real. I've had Texas beef (business trip), not just the slow-cooked b-b-q stuff, and it was properly cooked and quite good, but nowhere near what I had had in Argentina a year earlier.

477 Cigars are habit forming because the nicotine leeches into the skin. Hold a cigar, you get nicotine. Puff on a cigar, tons of nicotine. My personal view, And I have researched this for decades for reasons, is cigars are much safer than cigs but all are bad for you.

The one that gets me is smokeless tobacco. AKA dip, dealer, snuff, suns, chaw, etc. This category has historically been more maligned than smoking. The scientists hate it and anyone North of Mason Dix hates it.

The irony is dip, suns, chaw, etc has been proven time and again to be less dangerous. I will leave you with one thing. Cig smokers are much more likely to develop mouth cancer than dippers. Think about what I just said.

Back in Strom's hey day (or is it hay day?), it was well known, that if you were a young female womyns, whatever you do, don't let yourself get cornered alone with Strom. He would attempt to assert senatorial privileges.

My mother told a Strom story. This was in the '60s, before I was born. She got on some women's committee for Farm Bureau, I think. Or it may have been another one my father was in, I forget. Anyway, they'd meet with the legislative delegations from time to time.

Ol' Strom came to one, and the "women's committee", well that was right up Strom's alley, so he made sure to go meet with them. They knew well his reputation, and made sure not to let Strom corner any of them. But he had to hug every single one of them.

His hands didn't go anywhere they shouldn't, but he made sure he did get to hug every single one of them.

484 Obviously smokers are more likely to develop lung cancer, emphysema etc. But people are shocked when they here smokers are also much more likely to develop mouth cancer than dippers or those who use suns. This one has been known for decades, but the press covered it up.

I remember when the war on dip started, it was the mid 80s. Some kid got cancer after dipping for a few years. That one suit put warning labels on the cans. Hell I used it for four decades. Btw they never put a Surgeon General Warning on dip, the warning was mandated by Congress, look it up those who don’t know me.

513 I do occasionally think about what it would have been like to be in the military. I always felt like I missed something. The choice really wasn't mine. I got hit by a car when I was 7. The bicycle took more damage than me, but It left me with a really unpredictable back. At least once a year it would go out, sometimes twice, and would leave my not being able to walk or stand for 2-3 days. It got better over time to where it's long over and done, but it was still affecting me in my 20's. 3 of my friends went into the Marines after high school, one of them had a Marine recruiter in the family, his brother in law. He would always goof around with me and get me to join. I made an off hand comment one day, something about hoping they had light packs so my back don't collapse, and told him the story. He basically said forget it, if thats the case with an injury like that they'll just end up bouncing you and "you'll just be wasting uncle sam's time and money", and never brought up me joining again, like ever. So that was that.

There was one person in my basic training unit who should never have been there, as he was actually quite mentally retarded... This came to light at formation when his last name was called and he didn't respond -- he truly did not even know his own surname! He suffered a only a couple of days of extreme abuse by the drill sergeants and his fellow trainees until his unfortunate circumstance became known...

He had to hang around for a couple of weeks until he was chaptered out, but he was taken care of at that point -- he was a good kid who was led astray by an overzealous recruiter, so we were told -- and at formation when the roll was called, the sergeants called him out by his first name! And he was allowed to do most of the stuff the rest of us were doing until he got out!

Everyone was sad when he left, and we all hoped he was at least given a well-deserved honorary honourable discharge!

544 The Texas Embassy is named after the real thing, established by the Republic of Texas in London in 1836 (They established one in Paris too). When Texas became a state it closed, obviously, and the ambassador and his staff returned to Texas. Amusingly enough, they skipped out on back rent. A delegation of Texans celebrating the Texas sesquicentennial 1986 visited the wine shop (the embassy was on the second floor, the first floor and landlord is a famous huge wine shop) and settled the debt. There's a plaque on the wall commemorating the embassy, but nothing else survives.

I got interested in this. Yep, state governments and even cities get into all sorts of relations with foreign govts. Article I, Section 10 says no state shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation with a foreign power.

But then later, it says states can enter into "Compacts and Agreements" with the consent of Congress.

Reading about this, there is much nuance to all this.

This is just a very murky area of law, apparently. The wording of Article I, Section 10's "Compacts Clause" would seem to indicate that Congress must explicitly approve all such state agreements with foreign powers.

But they don't. States will do these things on their own, and the Sooopreme Court has been fine with it. Congress could veto any if it wanted to, that's clear, but they usually don't care.

There are some principles the Court has set. No state can "do foreign policy". If a compact or agreement is "doing foreign policy" it's out. If it tries to regular international trade, do something agin' federal policy, it's out.

This has produced some seemingly contradictory rulings over the years.

577 I did a shit load more, and so did many. I lived in a military family for 30 years. My father spilled a ton of blood and he had his own blood spilled. We moved every two years and all that entails.

I went to the toughest military school the nation ever had by choice. I joint the Army National Guard at 17. I used to go on drills while I’m High School. A fine chick loved my haircut.

I mention this only to say and prove the term “veteran” has a particular meeting. Guys who skipped College and did a two year hitch are veterans. I am that guy they say thank you to and make a wink to the bouncer.

In the end no one respects vets as do I. But I unlike most now know what the term means. It is not about raising a hand. It is about a debt the US government owes you. They would not want me in because that adds to the debt.

The Congress five or six years ago decided Army National Guard who served twenty years are vets. I am glad they did this but it is arbitrary. I did the exact same thing but for a shorter time. It is not about me, I am over it. My dad was a legit war hero, more than most you see in movies. I joined at. 17, why?, because I could not John at 16 (old bill Cosby joke). I. Only bring this up because there should be more vets, not fewer. Not everyone served and that is ok. 622 I have no idea what my U.S. Gov't legal status is - 12 years in, all reserve (except for training), and I have an honorable discharge. What I do know is, it's good enough to qualify for the veteran's discount at the pot shops.

624 My grandmother had a shore house, so my mom, who also loved the beach took us there a shit ton, so I basically spent summers there. I was beached out by the time I was driving.. Sitting in the sun sizzling like bacon all kinds of oiled up with sand sticking to you is not my idea of fun anymore. Mrs B loves it though.

I hate you like I hate the kids who had a horse.

Really, it's envy. But, I hate you. I haven't been to the beach since 2015.
