“These Covid-19 decree violation scores were calculated by analyzing nearly two billion global positioning system (GPS) pings to get “real-time, ultra-granular locations patterns.” People who were “on the go more often than their neighbors” were given a high Covid-19 decree violation score while those who mostly or always stayed at home were given a low Covid-19 decree violation score,” writes Reclaim the Net’s Tom Parker.
The data collected was then used by PredictWise to help Democrats target over 350,000 “COVID concerned” Republicans with campaign ads relating to virus prevention measures. “PredictWise understood that there were potential pockets of voters to target with Covid-19 messaging and turned high-dimensional data covering over 100 million Americans into measures of adherence to Covid-19 restrictions during deep lockdown,” the company states in its white paper. Sure, Michelangelo painting biblical scenes is beautiful, but seeing a painting showing the time it was painted is much more informative. It shows you how the people thought they ought to act, dress, enjoy life. It shows you the attitude the people had to their world. It shows you what they thought was beautiful, what they thought was ugly in how they chose to depict things (at least the painter themselves.) Googling on why pants replaced breeches points to George Bryan "Beau" Brummell (7 June 1778 – 30 March 1840)
On the other hand, Brummell's style brought to the forefront with both its looser long trousers and flat boots and shoes allowed the wearer to participate in more activities matching a social change in the concept of masculinity. He also preferred dark colors, normally black with a white shirt, over the bright colors worn previously. This style was adopted by upper-class men and became the norm for western society through to the modern-day. Why are they called 'Pea' coats?
Posted by: Aetius451AD Etymology According to a 1975 edition of The Mariner's Mirror, the term "pea coat" originated from the Dutch or West Frisian word pijjekker or pijjakker, in which pij referred to the type of cloth used, a coarse kind of twilled blue cloth with a nap on one side. Jakker designates a man’s short, heavy coat. Posted by: rickb223 at October 26, 2022 10:13 AM (qChqh) 230

Icelandic wool is dual coated. They used to comb out the fine fibers to wear close to the skin. The long fibers were used for weaving. Depending on jurisdiction, can include fines and jail time. If you truly don't want to be on a jury, make yourself kryptonite to the lawyers during voir dire (e.g. I always side with the police). As far as going, if you have a "valid" excuse (doctor's note, e.g. can't sit too long or other medical condition), you can get a get-out-of-jury duty letter. I was like that for a few years when I was on dialysis. Had restless leg syndrome from it, other issues that made it difficult to be on a jury. I can serve now, and have shown up, but have never gotten called while waiting...yet. Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at October 26, 2022 10:25 AM (ynpvh) 286

1) this election appears poised to knock out a significant number of Democrat moderates (such as there are) and leave the party far more radical. 2) it will also sweep in several marginal moderate Republicans. #1 will force those under #2 to "do the right thing." Lexington and Concord weren't the whole war, especially as it was before you'd even organized an army; and they weren't armed with Kentucky long rifles.
https://www.lexingtonminutemen.com/join.html ||But if a piece of clothing or equipment existed in the 18th Century, shouldn’t I be able to wear or carry it? No. Just because an item existed in 18th Century America does not mean it existed in 1775 Massachusetts. We portray a Massachusetts militia company between the months of April and October, 1775. As a result, items that were not introduced until after October 1775 (for example regimental French Lottery Coats and hunting shirts) are prohibited. Likewise, an item or piece of clothing not native to 1775 Massachusetts (for example a Kentucky rifle, war paint or moccasins) cannot be worn or carried.|| You should be prouder that Washington and Von Steuben turned out a professional 'modern' army that could win field battles. My go to winter sweater is handspun wool, two colors in a stranded pattern. The fibers have fulled together on the inside and it's very warm. I was working on that when I did some training in TX. The knitters there said they couldn't imagine ever needing a sweater like that. I wondered if they felt the same way after that bad cold snap. I don't wear the sweater often, but I have it if I need it.

The trick is to not use the little batteries. You need to use 4 or 6 hour minimum. Working on my house here is practically a full blown job site with what I have been doing, and I go a few days without changing batteries in anything. I'm using mostly milwaukee fuel, and dewalt. I do have a bunch of the 1.5 hour batteries that lasted days in the drill and impact drivers while installing the kitchen.
Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division ------------------------- The tradeoff is price skyrockets substantially once you go over 2 amp hour batteries. I have power working on my home renovations over the years so I use corded tools because I simply don't NEED a full sized battery powered circular saw or miter saw. I already have premium corded ones. Ditto for routers and other high demand tools. IF I was working new construction without power, then it would matter. Working on wood, I found actually that Bosch's little 12v impact driver did quite well and was easier to fit in tight places doing retrofits. Batteries charge in about one hour and are far cheaper than its bigger cousins. Milwaukee has a similar line. Posted by: whig at October 26, 2022 10:56 AM (CXr4y) 447

For all the bitching about Republican candidate quality the overwhelming thing I am taking from this election is just how awful the Democrat candidates are. DeSantis is really good but Charlie Crist is a joke and he makes DeSantis look even better. you can see this play out in race after race across the country. Easier to hide bad candidates when times are good. Posted by: JackStraw at October 26, 2022 10:57 AM (ZLI7S) 450

The new wools are phenomenal. I wear wool socks year round to avoid soggy feet, as wool pulls moisture away from your skin. I have found some reasonable wool sweaters that are much thinner than their comparable acrylic/polyester counterparts and just as warm. The range of non scratchy wool has expanded greatly in the past several years.

Posted by: Farmer Bob at October 26, 2022 *** I always looked at it like this -- GM had a car for you at every stage of your life. 20s: Chevy; 30s: Pontiac; 40s: Oldsmobile; 50s: Buick; and 60s and beyond, Cadillac. That might have been GM's general idea, but I'm sure there were young guys who jumped right into a Pontiac or even a lightly used Olds, and middle management guys who bought a Buick. My father stuck with Chevy, Impala coupes and then a Monte Carlo, all during my childhood and teen years. He'd once had a Cadillac, but I guess couldn't swing it later. When shit gets real I'll use my corded stuff, but with whats been going on around here I would have drown in cords with all the different tools I have to use. I switched all my nail guns to cordless and it's been pretty liberating not to hear the compressor running and tripping over air hoses. I'll still use my swiss made bosch corded jigsaw over my milwaukee fuel jig saw though. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at October 26, 2022 11:12 AM (VwHCD) 476
