So would "rebuilding" Ukraine include anything to address the war damage in the now-Russian oblasts to the east, which have been shelled for 8 years? Where there has been extensive damage accumulate. Didn't think so!

The BoE (Brit central bank) had to intervene, all the while they were raising rates supposedly themselves. They had do a bond buy to shore up prices.

Question is if the Fed will blink when things start to go sideways. Suppose the US Treasury market starts to crash. Will the Fed keep up (and risk their own balance sheet going tits up due to crashing bond prices) or will they relent?

95 Otoya Yamaguchi (山口二矢 Yamaguchi Otoya, February 22, 1943 - November 2, 1960) was a Japanese ultranationalist, a member of a right-wing Uyoku dantai group, who assassinated Inejiro Asanuma (a politician and head of the Japan Socialist Party) by wakizashi on 12 October 1960 at Tokyo's Hibiya Hall during a political debate in advance of parliamentary elections.

Less than three weeks later, while being held in a juvenile detention facility, Yamaguchi mixed a small amount of tooth paste with water and wrote on his cell wall, "Seven lives for my country. Ten thousand years for His Imperial Majesty, the Emperor!" Yamaguchi then knotted strips of his bedsheet into a makeshift rope and used it to hang himself from a light fixture.

A photograph taken by Yasushi Nagao immediately after Otoya withdrew his sword from Asanuma would later go on to win the Pulitzer Prize and the 1960 World Press Photo award. Footage of the incident was also captured.

113 Well I have just gone down another research rabbit hole whilst building the Eduard 1/48 F4F-3 Wildcat. Eduard calls for FS36440 Flat Gull Gray for interior spaces and undersides, this is wrong. Luckily Dana Bell has it all figured out, Bell is a published author on this and related subjects.

Firstly Grumman used a color called Grumman Gray which is a very light gray for their interiors. The US Navy when it started to gear up for war called for all planes to be repainted Non-specular Light Gray overall. There is an old Munsel code for mixing. To add further confusion there is the later ANA paint standard which tried to correlate US paints to British ones. ANA 602 which is similar to RAF Medium Sea Gray was declared similar to NS Light Gray but it is far darker. By mid-war NS Light Gray was phased out as the USN started to paint undersides Insignia White. So there is no FS535 match. But that did not stop a guy in the 1970s saying that FS36440 is a close match. Flat Gull Gray is again darker than NS Light Gray and it has a brown tint.

So what color to use and be close enough? FS36495 will work for Grumman Gray and Non-specular Light gray. So there you have it. *thud*

Just reading, the BoE seems to playing chicken with the govt. They didn't like the budget (fiscally irresponsible), so the shock to Brit bonds (guilts) served as a wakeup call. The BoE may want the govt to get a little taste of that.

Our own Fed, through some paper put out of few weeks ago, is warning Congress and the Treasury. We can't have tightening monetary policy and fiscal lunacy at the same time. IOW, the Fed is saying it can't get inflation under control without fiscal restraint as well.

The BoE is playing hardball with their own govt over this very thing.

Big actions tend to be reported fairly accurately by both sides (Ukes talk a lot less, in general) - if you just filter for the "so what" of it all, and ignore the flavoring elements. As in most wars, fog and security make most specific numerical claims somewhat dubious. But the big picture's easy to see.

153 Anna - take a stab at what looks right to you from what info is available about the time that aircraft would have been built. And if anyone complains tell them where they can get off. There was a lot of changing schemes and a production line may not have been stopped just because some instruction came down.

Factories would tend to use what was on hand until the new material would arrive, and even then use up older stock while getting ready to cycle the new stock in.

I'm putzing around with a Sturmtiger which is overall dunckelgelb with green and brown splotches. Not too concerned about the pattern because I intend a winter scene with a white-wash so the exact pattern will be partially hidden.

Now next is to find a Renault Chenillette for a France 1940 scene with a Souma and a Char B. But that takes back burner to finishing up the basement.

I am not too worried because I have always used FS 36495 for early war US Navy under surfaces or for pre-war. What concerns me is, I have three different companies Intermediate Blue. When I painted a small square of each on white paper, they all appeared dark gray. There is supposed to be a blue tint. Maybe I need to shake them up more and paint a larger sample.

Have fun with the Sturmtiger and recreating the Battle of France as the French go, "wait? The Ardennes!?"

Issues he found were sink marks on the simplified R-2600s. Also the bottom rudder hinges are rounded and not squared as on the real plane.

Issues I have found - no ammo boxes or interior for the waist area. From the instructions and photos there is no doubler plate that is installed in front of the lower gun pack .50s to protect the aircraft skin from muzzle blast.

Besides weathering the planes usually changes things up enough. Sun bleaching and such. Tom Clever on building a B-17F added some purple I think to his OD41 to account for some ultraviolet effect on the paint. *thud*

The longest RAF bombing mission on record, were several single Vulcan bomber runs "Black Buck 1 - 7" / Waddington Wing, comprising aircraft from Nos. 44, 50 and 101 Squadrons, against Argentine positions in the Falkland Islands at a distance of 6600 nautical miles.

A significant feat for 1982.

Over 3X as many tankers were deployed to refuel the bombers that successfully completed the mission. IIRC... about 1 out of 3. Tankers had to refuel each other during the 16 hour flight as well as the bombers.

Besides weathering the planes usually changes things up enough. Sun bleaching and such. Tom Clever on building a B-17F added some purple I think to his OD41 to account for some ultraviolet effect on the paint. *thud*

This is another rabbit hole all can get lost in.

Interesting. Thanks. In the early 80s I was about to get serious about 1/72 aircraft modeling and read in a Monogram Luftwaffe Colors book about cutting spec colors with white or gray to get scale effect. My modeling was permanently derailed by 80 hour work weeks and other stuff, so I never tried the Monogram suggestions myself.

260 240 Falkland War tidbit....

The longest RAF bombing mission on record, were several single Vulcan bomber runs "Black Buck 1 - 7" / Waddington Wing, comprising aircraft from Nos. 44, 50 and 101 Squadrons, against Argentine positions in the Falkland Islands at a distance of 6600 nautical miles.

A significant feat for 1982.
Over 3X as many tankers were deployed to refuel the bombers that successfully completed the mission. IIRC... about 1 out of 3. Tankers had to refuel each other during the 16 hour flight as well as the bombers.

262 If you do want to play with the Scale Effect, in an AeroMaster catalog I have for their paints they recommend no more than 15% white for 1/72. For 1/48 <= 10%. 1/32 <=5%.
