Very Smart Twitter Blue Checks Mock Lauren Boebert's "Two Words: Let's Go Brandon!" Joke

Ah, the Twitter Blue Checks. How very intelligent they are. Check their timelines. They'll tell you all about it.

Aviators Sunglasses Enthusiast and Rocket Scientist Joe Biden visited a Volvo plant and began with Bidenesque aplomb, "Let me start off with two words: Made in America."

Mocking him, Lauren Boebert tweeted: "Two words: "Let's go Brandon!"

The very, very smart Twitter Blue Checks all swarmed in to say that this means that Lauren Boebert is not fit to hold political office, exposing themselves as stupid and not fit to comment on political comings and goings, but also, of course, registering the consensus opinion of the left that Joe Biden is not smart enough to hold public office.

I mean, sure most of that is the galloping dementia but he's been stupid since the day he was born.

A good friend of mine mocked our editor's penchant for trying to make up inspirational aphorisms by saying, "Three words: Editors edit."

Being a little tipsy, and speaking extemporaneously, he miscounted, but, of course,
he tripped into a neat bit of accidental wit.

Three words: editors edit. That's great.

How much wit gets lost in the beer left behind in the bottom of a glass? Who knows, who knows.

1. They use stereotypes of conservatives. That stereotype is *dumb*.

From Insty.

Now, why would national Democratic organizations not invest in a race that the media deems is "close"? Is it because it's close? Are those public polls showing Vance up by only 2 accurate? If they're accurate, than Ryan is within striking distance and Ryan could make up the gap with some quick injection of cash to up GOTV efforts or something.

Instead, the DNC gives him nothing. Weird, huh?

And after (absurdly) becoming VP (after his absurd boss was elected), almost certainly the most corrupt US national political figure in a century or more. Yeah. But it's also beyond parody at this point.

Imagine you are in, say, 2013 and you write a book about Spygate or COVID or the degradation of American cities under progressive DAs. You'd be thrown out of your publisher's office for trying to pass off something so preposterous and unbelievable. You certainly wouldn't get your book picked up.

I'd hate the be an author of political thrillers anymore. Comedy still works sometimes (the Babylon Bee does a decent job) but it's an uphill battle with these people because it's almost impossible to satirize them.

186 136 132 Maybe its just me but at the height of her fame in the 80s, Madonna represented everything I did not like about women, or rather everything about a kind of woman I did not like. Brash, classless, sleazy, slutty, weird contrived fashion sense, self focused, and trashy.

having seen her Playboy shoot (before she was a famed singer, when she was quite young) ... yeah. THAT is when you should look pretty much your best. she did not. very trashy, hairy, odd.

AFTER fame when she got work done she was way, way better. but the default model wasn't great, and plastic surgery additions tend to degrade quickly.

252 They even claimed Ike was an idiot. You know, the guy who planned and executed the Invasion of Europe?

Ike signed off on Operation Overlord. But make no mistake, he did not "plan it".

The biggest reason we invaded Normandy, rather than Southern France, was the insistence by Marshall to stick to a 95 division limit, in order to not rob American industry of needed man-power. Yes, as in men. Contrary to popular myth, women didn't fill every factory job, or most factory jobs, or even a significant portion of factory jobs. They populated "some" factory jobs - where deemed feasible.

Ike was, however, a junior officer early in his career that did indeed contribute to some of the early mobilization plans regarding American industry's quick conversion to military production.

As I understand it - and I was never at a level that had to understand it in my day - thank Rumsfeld for the conversion from divisions to brigades. Where the brigade ... just a regiment, one of what used to be three in a division ... now has all the extra shit necessary to be the only unit in the field.

Which isn't really all that new. "Separate Armored Brigades" were a thing in the 50s. And below that, even, 2/3 of the Infantry Divisions in Europe had an attached Armored Battalion.

And again, at least as I understand it, now our Infantry Brigades have an armored component, and our Armored Brigades have an infantry component. Might as well call them all Panzer-Grenadier Brigades, standardize them, and be done with it.

No. Bazookas could not take out Panzers. It can, at best, knock a tread off to allow you to torch the MFers, but it would not kill a tank. Bazookas were designed to knock out fortified positions. If your attack it knock off treads remember to gang bang the treads.

*******

They added an eighth district after the census. The eighth was made up of some of the I-70 corridor, from Boulder county over to around Eagle. Part of that came from Boebert's Third District, probably actually strengthening her likelihood or reelection as the Third is pretty solidly rural and generally conservative. The new district is fairly evenly split but I suspect it will tilt leftward.

Now we're getting to it. How, exactly, should one organize an army ?

In WW II - make no mistake - it was still mostly a matter of how many boys can we organize and supply with what meager means we have.

This is a mistake easily made, by us, at the end of this Golden Age of American power. We're pretty much putting all Mechanized Infantry Brigades in the field, each with their own air component. That's never been done in human history. The idea that every unit on the map can hold, breakthrough, and exploit as it pleases them.

Back in the day - even the glorious WWII of Norman Rockwell paintings - it wasn't a matter of purposely cutting back on firepower to the GI, or the division. It was a matter of using best what we could get there. And believe me, mistakes were made.

435 This is a mistake easily made, by us, at the end of this Golden Age of American power. We're pretty much putting all Mechanized Infantry Brigades in the field, each with their own air component. That's never been done in human history. The idea that every unit on the map can hold, breakthrough, and exploit as it pleases them.

The Sherman wasn't a bad tank. It was mechanically ... well, what you'd expect from 1940s America. It could drive across Europe, with maintenance that could be readily done.

Compare that to the best tank in the war, for the money. The Soviet T-34. That thing had better armor, an equal gun, and a better profile. And they built it to go no more than about 200 miles before major repairs.

445 The biggest reason we invaded Normandy, rather than Southern France, was the insistence by Marshall to stick to a 95 division limit, in order to not rob American industry of needed man-power.

Posted by: SG at October 10, 2022 03:54 PM (TV8tt)

Another reason to limit divisions is that the infantry portions of units take most of the casualties. Therefore you have to allocate incoming manpower to replace infantry losses or the units without infantry take up lots of men and equipment but have very diminished effectiveness.

This was happening big time to the UK units during and after Normandy which contributed muchly to their somewhat indifferent performance in Autumn 44 in taking French ports, Antwerp and in Market Garden.

I think you may underestimate the ability of our military supply systems to keep our troops in the field. I was in Navy Supply from 1988 to 1992 and the system was robust and able to deliver what was needed for extended periods. Might be different for USMC and Army and even Navy and USAF these days; I'm way out of the loop now.

Our military does have a lot of problems, but it's a lot stronger and more flexible than most people realize.

Most officers wanted a bigger gun on the Sherman as soon as they landed in Africa. Thank Leslie McNair. The general that, literally, invented the US doctrine of Tank Destroyers that would be used as scout vehicles and personally blocked the Pershing for a couple years - until Cobra shut him up.

Patton wanted a second machine gun on the Sherman. He may have been right. The Sherman definitely benefited from the British up-gunning.

Early reports, from the few Pershings that were landed in Europe, were extremely promising.

The anecdote I heard was they were called Ronsons. But then I heard that this lighter didn't come out until post war.

However, the Sherman when it was introduced in the desert in 42 was far better armored that the English tanks at the time except maybe the Matilidas who could only go about 5 mph. So it is likely that these jokes were later introductions at best or fabrications entirely.

No. The idea of Chinese style of combat being a Zerg attack, similar to the Chosin Reservoir.

At some point, given enough Chinese to spend, our drones and Strikers and such might give way to massive waves of much less technical stuff. Like SKSs, mortars, and such.

The Pershings suffered more from the fact that they couldn't fit in standard rail cars and were too heavy for rail transport on many US rail lines, much less Europe.

They really only got into action in Spring 45 when all the tanks, even the Shermans were having field days against the crumbling Axis armies.

457 The Pershings suffered more from the fact that they couldn't fit in standard rail cars and were too heavy for rail transport on many US rail lines, much less Europe.

The basic Armored Battalion assigned to an Infantry Division had 500% casualties from start to finish. McNair was worried about the logistics.

Lets end this now - because you seem to have a motive to defend, justify, whatever - the Sherman. The US lost over 4,000 M4 tanks in the European Theatre.

Here's a clip from just the 3rd Armored Division's own archives ...

The 3rd Armored Division entered combat in Normandy with 232 M4 Sherman tanks. During the European Campaign, the Division had some 648 Sherman tanks completely destroyed in combat and we had another 700 knocked out, repaired and put back into operation. This was a loss rate of 580 percent.

459 458 Posted by: SG at October 10, 2022 05:12 PM (TV8tt)

Let's not end it. American armored vehicles were the most survivable in case of loss of any in the war, by design. Yes the Sherman was not "the best" WW2 AFV if armor battle was jousting on the parade grounds of Eton.

Every tank is a stab at the correct mix of mobility, lethality and durability and durability in this sense is not simply "can take a hit" it involves crew survival operational mobility and how much deep PM work is needed to keep it going.

Early in the war the Sherman was functionally a modern MBT being very mobile and lethal with high end durability as the conflict wore on its direct fire durability waned but its operational mobility for sustained action was still top notch and it was as always low preventive maint.

The most powerful weapon on ANY American tank was always the radio.

Posted by: sven at October 10, 2022 05:49 PM (Lzpvj)

460 Let's not end it.

Lets Not !!! Another WW2 nerd !!! Outstanding.

It looks to me like the Sherman was a pretty good opening design ... equal to the Panzer IV. Didn't have to fight the T-34, so who cares.

But the purposeful ignoring of the 88mm guns on the Panther and Panzer was criminal. And you can see where Leslie McNair was front and center on that, to preserve his brainchild of American armored doctrine.

Imagine one Pershing per Platoon Leader, per platoon - which was all the front line units needed. Or the simple up-gunning of the Sherman to 90mm casemate - again, one per platoon.

All blocked by Leslie McNair.

461 460 Posted by: SG at October 10, 2022 06:04 PM (TV8tt)

Strategic logistics does not work that way. You add in your "super tank" that needs its own rail car, is a bitch to bring across the water, has its own parts needs etc etc.

America was not deficient in attempts for a "super tank" even going back to pre-war development and analytics.

Look into the M-6 for example. It had flaws but the primary reason it was not picked up was an understanding that the need for heavy armor with US advantages in air and arty power was minimal and it would not fit over enough bridges in EUtopia which would limit its theater mobility.

Yes these hard choices cost US lives, but it was not done lightly and it was the "correct" call for an Army that by its very nature would be an expeditionary force having to deal with indigenous infrastructure issues.

Posted by: sven at October 10, 2022 06:11 PM (Lzpvj)

462 Yes these hard choices cost US lives, but it was not done lightly and it was the "correct" call for an Army that by its very nature would be an expeditionary force having to deal with indigenous infrastructure issues.

500% losses in the armored ranks. That was the failing in American doctrine.

Saying "it cost American lives" papers over just how many it cost. It was an awful decision, by doctrine. It bordered on the Soviet idea of "quantity has a quality all its own".

Imagine justifying that decision by "well, yeah, but we could always make more tanks".

Nowhere else, in any WWII branch, did we make that kind of call. Everywhere else, we always made, if not best in class, at least on the podium.

Posted by: SG at October 10, 2022 06:20 PM (TV8tt)

463 And they could have always up-gunned the Sherman to a 90mm. Just like they added armor to the Jumbos.

Adding the armor, BTW, was opposed by the doctrinaires that followed Leslie McNair. That cat was one of the best generals for the German effort.

464 462 Posted by: SG at October 10, 2022 06:20 PM (TV8tt)

There were laws of physics involved. You'll note the Pershing was so great they upgunned the Sherman for Korea. The Pershing was a better fighting platform but it was an inferior dwell time on the battlefield and mobility one. McNair made some hard choices, and in all likelihood I would have made other ones.

That said the US Army won a war with the TO and E he largely fostered. The Sherman was "such a horrible tank" the IDF used it until the 70s. I have studied anti-armor tactics my whole life essentially.

It is pretty hard to defend against equipment that is mobile enough it can show up anywhere and numerous enough it will be where you are not and able enough to still apply leverage.

While the Sherman good or bad argument is fun, the reality is that like the Mk-14 torpedo while troubling neither weapon system was debilitating.

Posted by: sven at October 10, 2022 06:30 PM (Lzpvj)

465 That said the US Army won a war with the TO and E he largely fostered.

His TO&E was so good, in fact, that 2/3 of the Infantry Division in the European Theater had a separate battalion of Shermans assigned. And the vaunted Tank Destroyers sometimes did recon. Sometimes rear duty.

Our military based everything upon the idea of light armored, insufficiently gunned vehicles stopping an armored division.

And then, when confronted with the reality, McNair doubled down. He was not a great theorist. He was stubborn to the end.

Do you really think a battalion of TD's could have stopped a division of German armor ... anywhere ? Especially our TD's ?

It was typical too smart by half thinking. Leslie McNair was a detriment to the American war effort. And its OK to say it. He served. He simply sucked.

His doubling down, including playing political games to stop certain folks questioning his doctrine, is typical of any big effort.

A lightly armored, fast, under-gunned vehicle ? Against what ?

Tigers were putting down T-34s at a rate of at least 30-1 at Kursk. Manstein thought he had that battle won. I trust Manstein on this.

This is part of what baffles me. I assume you've been in a tank. Even modern armor, overland, is a great way to die more than 30 MPH. Just from shaking to death.

At some point, speed does not matter. That speed, until things change, is around 30 MPH over rough terrain.
