Top Story

Kioxia - formerly Toshiba's flash memory division - has reduced production of flash chips following declines in sale prices of 30%. (Tom's Hardware)

Without cuts to production, prices were predicted to decline a further 20% this quarter.

I'm not seeing much movement in the prices of consumer SSDs yet, but the chips in SSDs being sold now were likely bought at prices set six months ago.

Actually, that's what they're doing right now: endlessly repeating the same formula. They have certain macros ("women strong!" "men stupid!" "diversity good!") and just cobble them together without really understanding the big picture.

If they had someone supervising their work, it might actually function.

Yesterday I was supposed to help move middle daughter into her new apartment. This had been planned. However, the management that scheduled her move-in for yesterday doesn't work weekends and didn't provide her with the key.

With that off the table we went to do some Halloween shopping and almost as soon as I pulled out of the driveway she noticed a high-pitched noise beyond the range of my elderly hearing. Soon enough, though, I could hear it. We thought it might be something lodged in a tire and pulled off at the tire store, which was close by. Nope, not the tire, possibly the bearing.

At this point my daughter laughed and said God was looking out for us. If I'd set out on the highway, things might have gone very badly very fast.

As it was, I'll take it into the dealership tomorrow.

205 Bad day on the Russian front yesterday; they were forced to admit that their garrison (what was left of it) was fleeing the town of Lyman, a key railroad hub. They waited too long, on orders from Moscow; they should have done it a week ago, when they still had one open highway. The garrison was estimated to contain 2500 - 4500 men, and now even if they do make it out, all of their equipment will be lost. Bad look for Putin after Lyman was supposedly annexed to Russia 2 days ago.

I had something like that. It turned out to be something called a "pyogenic granuloma" which, according to wikipedia (and my doctor) is neither pyogenic nor a true granuloma. My doctor isn't a surgeon, but can play one well enough to remove a granuloma.
