You remember Peter Strozk don't you? He's the slimy former FBI agent who was out to get President Trump. He's in the news again.
Disgraced former FBI special agent Peter Strzok was slammed by a top agency official over his “sustained pattern of bad judgment” and “selfishness” that seriously damaged the reputation and credibility of the bureau in a scathing draft of his termination letter. Strzok’s hatred of former President Donald J. To those who understand plumbing - this is for you. The Russians extract natural gas and build a pipeline. The pipeline originates in Russia. It then runs into Poland first, then Germany. Both Nato countries. It could end there. Since it first runs into Poland it can end there. It could end after running through both Poland, then Germany. The next country it could run into after going under the Baltic Sea is Sweden, which has recently declared a desire of entering Nato.
Simple matter to a build terminating point in Germany before it enters the Baltic. Abandon the sunken destroyed part forever. Teach the Swedes a lesson. No cheap gas for you. Poland and Germany, still in play if they don't want to freeze this winter. Worth considering for a minute.

I never thought I'd be important enough to swat. Statistically nobody goes to my website or my YT channel. I'm like the opposite-of-viral guy.
Don't tell YooToob, but I have a tricky temporary workaround that lets me still access my YT subscription list, so it still exists. I hope this means my video catalog can be resurrected. "Terminated" does not make me hopeful.

It may well be naivete and/or wishful thinking on my part, but I really don't believe Putin will use nukes. Popping a nuke would be a line neither he nor Russia could come back from; he would lose all his international support, even China would have to cut bait on them, and the nearby European nations would almost have to get involved, which would likely draw us in as well. Whatever Putin's character and stability, he has to be aware of all that as well; if so, he would know there's nothing to gain that route.

I hope you're right - at the moment, Putin is probably realizing that as an actual battlefield weapon, nukes aren't very useful. What's happening right now aren't large set-piece battles with huge battle formations. Rather the fighting in the northeast is a lot of small unit action, moving through heavy forests and fighting village by village. So is Putin going to bring on world wide condemnation to take out a lonely country intersection with a vodka store on one corner and a seven-elevenski on the other?

In regards to might makes right I'm always reminded of an incident from the Peloponnesian war where Athens attacked a neutral island city named Melos.
The city asked the Athens what right do you have to attack us? And the reply? " the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must."
Athens would go on to lose the war and only survive because the Spartan victors saw reason to not do the same thing to Athens that the Athenians did to Melos.

The entire world is replaying the Summer of 1914 right now. No one backed down because everyone blindly assumed that the other guy would back down first.
Russian doctrine has favored using tactical nuclear weapons. American forces abandoned that policy in the 60's do to a very influential argument (and paper) which made the case that if tactical nuclear weapons were ever used, the conflict would *always* move to the use of long range strategic nuclear weapons in a matter of days. It's the hard logic of nuclear war; once one side demonstrates their willingness to use, the other side *has* to go for a first strike to take out all strategic weapon bases - and the second country has got to launch all of it's missiles when it sees that first strike coming in, or else just lose them. Any nuclear exchange between well armed countries will always end this way.

I would imagine the further you have to move a product through a pipeline the more energy is required. Moving it under the Baltic Sea to a country that doesn't need it or want it seems... kinda stupid.
Sometimes what you don't see tells you more than what you don't see. Since I don't see a muchroom (stet) cloud 80 miles away in DC I'm guessing things are... complicated and a number of layers deep.

I was seriously thinking about that. I even joked with the dude who put in the liner. I said I was going to make it look like I was choosing a pope and see where the smoke went. Smelling it in the garage makes me think its not just getting sucked down the fireplace flue, but the garage is not far from the chimney. The attic is like a catacomb because of all the vaulted ceilings, and I'm not sure the garage attic is even connected to the regular attic, because the garage is in front of the house. Its been a mystery for the last year.

Well the house is pretty damn air tight, there are no drafts. Anderson windows all around and tight sealing entrance doors. But yeah, there is all the other vents, in the bathrooms, and clothes dryer, etc. You smell it even with none of that running. It would definitely be worse when the AC was running with the air handler being in the attic. I had the chimney liner done last week and its a lot better, and he ran a taller flue cap on that new liner, but its still right next to the fireplace flue, just not even height with it like it was. The house does seem weird with pressures, like when the AC is on it will literally pull the french doors open that go to the family room if they're not latched .

Well they used to do both. 2 reasons- They didn't have valve stem seals until around 1980, so their gonna puff. They also had chain oilers, so with that thing constantly dripping yeah it's gonna leave spots on the street. That shit is all over with. Since the mid 80's they don't burn oil, and they aren't leaking it anymore.

Look for a Dwyer Magnehelic differential pressure gauge, calibrated in inches of water. Set it up to measure interior air pressure of the house vs outdoor air pressure. HVAC suppliers should have them. About 90 bucks, new.
Does your boiler have a make-up air supply line? New furnace installs are supposed to have a 2 to 4 inch fresh air supply pipe to the firebox air inlet, so they don't fraw down house pressure while in operation.

Now I know why I'm on the industrial side and not commercial/residential. Thank God it's easy to distinguish a furnace from a heat exchanger in a refinery and am only responsible from the first nozzle/flange onward on both pieces of equipment.

I'm definitely thinking a negative pressure. The chimney has 3 flues, one for boiler, one for fireplace, and one for wood burner which has never been used, but was added as a just in case. The 3 flue caps were right next to each other, so I can easily see exhaust gas being pulled down the fireplace flue. the garage is in front of the house, like pulled forward, but attached, but the eve on the one garage wall is probably 5 feet from the chimney, and they are vented. There is also a ridge vent.

I was going to do that as soon as I can get to the damn thing. Mrs b packed up the kitchen and made Tubhenge in front of it. What gave me a slight clue was when the chimney dudes where here inspecting the chimney and measuring for a liner they left the flue door for the fireplace open, and I really smelled it in the living room, so I went over to check and saw the flue open and closed it. Thats what had me thinking fireplace as entry point.

I'll bet you that is the problem right there. The oil needs air to burn. Older houses were pretty leaky, and leaked enough that make-up air was not required. The issue isn't the volume of the basement, but where the air is coming into the house to support the combustion. Generally, older house were simply 'leaky' and the air made it in through sundry air leaks. In tighter houses that 'make-up' air (for combustion) no longer comes from leaks, but down chimneys, in through dryer vents, bathroom vents etc.
