This time it’s Unilever’s Alan Jope. He is a far-left activist who seeks to rid the world of the energy that fuels its prosperity, but you still have to wonder if his catastrophic mismanagement of Unilever might have caused him to go super-woke. Perhaps he thought loony eco-leftism might provide a protective shield against his inevitable ouster for the damage he caused the company. If you aren’t familiar with Unilever, you are certainly familiar with its stable of brands, which include Hellman’s, Lipton, Knorr, Dove, Dollar Shave Club, Suave, and many other familiar products. Jope became CEO of Unilever in January 2019. It didn’t take long for him to start trying to impose enviro-communism on the capitalist enterprise he ran, and to also impose it on all other businesses. Advocating for mandatory, externally imposed ESG (“Environmental Social Governance” is not the hallmark of a man who believes in free enterprise.Unilever CEO Alan Jope reaffirmed the consumer goods giant's sustainability agenda Tuesday, saying it "will not back down" despite "anti-sustainability" and "anti-woke" backlash. The chief executive, speaking during a Tuesday panel at the 2022 Clinton Global Initiative meeting in New York, called "anti-sustainability" and "anti-woke" backlash "incredibly dangerous for the world." He also argued that saying "we have a climate emergency" has started becoming unpopular. "The first thing that Unilever will do is we will not back down on this agenda despite these populist accusations," he said.He may have finally gone too far by at one point acknowledging that he’ll continue to prioritize ESG activism over his fiduciary duty to shareholders. The hammer finally dropped this week. Unilever could not wait any longer to put a stop to the damage Jope was doing. Although he’ll retain his title for another year while the Board searches for someone to rescue the company from the damage he has done, Jope’s days of actively destroying Unilever in obedience to Klaus Schwab and Greta Thunberg are over. Unilever CEO Set to Leave After GSK Debacle, Arrival of Activist Investor [US News – 9/26/2022] Unilever said CEO Alan Jope would retire at the end of 2023, announcing the move less than a year after a bungled attempt to buy GSK's consumer healthcare business, and two months after activist investor Nelson Peltz joined the board. The British consumer products maker said its board would start a formal search for a successor to Jope, a Unilever veteran who took up his role at the start of 2019, The [GSK] move was met with disapproval from shareholders, some of whom also criticised Unilever for prioritising sustainability over core growth. Unilever's shares rose almost 4% in early trading, hitting their highest since August last year.Let’s look at how Unilever stock has done under Jope’s awful stewardship. It was trading at approximately $53 per share when he took over in January 2019, rising to $63 per share just a few months later in August. It’s now trading at around $43 per share, a 19% reduction in value from when he took over, and a 32% drop from its peak. By contrast, even with the current bear market, the S&P 500 is up about 40% from January 2019. $100,000 invested in Unilever stock in January 2019 is now worth about $81,000. $100,000 invested in the S&P 500 in January 2019 is now worth about $140,000. Get woke, go broke. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Unilever's troubles pre-date Jope's woke insanity. Their $1 billion -- that's with a "b" -- acquisition of Dollar Shave Club in 2016 was considered a bad idea at the time, and is now considered a huge failure. @38 496-Them Jeremys Razors I've seen come with multiple blades, up to six on their cartridge. I think I've seen some that had only three.
Rule of thumb with shaving; Cartridges or disposables with one blade=one pass in one pass. Three blades=three passes in one pass. Five blades=five passes in one pass. For wet shaving with a straight or safety(one razor) it is recommended you do three passes maximum. So if you are getting razor burn or irritation reduce the amount of blades in a cartridge or disposable down to 1-3 blades. This will reduce the amount of irritation to your face. ---------------------- The incentive structure for CEO and investors in the US are perverted by the capital gains tax rates and interest being deductible. So, the fastest way to grow a company's revenue is to buy others using debt. Leverage works to your favor when interest rates are low but is a bitch when they go higher. Low Capital gains rates versus ordinary income taxed dividends incentivize investors to seek the fast buck rather than the stable one. This is compounded by the fact that interest is deductible but dividends aren't at the corporate level. A lot of the financial boom bust cycle could be alleviated by preferred stock issuance instead of debt. Won't happen because of US tax law incentives. It's inverse - "falsity is ugliness," if you will - must also be true. Beauty and ugliness are, of course, in the eye of the beholder to a degree though there are objective measures of beauty. One of those measures is quantity. "The greatest good for the greatest number" is more beautiful than "some good for some number" but less beautiful than "maximal good for all." Anything that takes off our path toward maximal good for all is regressive, reactionary and, yes, ugly. A lot of electric utilities have programs that offer to sell you "100% renewable energy" for an extra ten bucks a month or so. It's not that "100% renewable energy" costs an extra ten bucks a month, but that's the most that people will pay. Even then, only a small fraction of people will take the utilities up on that deal. IMO - Unilever will make out NO better with billionaire investor Nelson Peltz onboard. He has many kids, most millennials, (one married to a UK Beckham) and will cater to wokeness hugely vs. useful, well-priced family products. (Note: Unilever has more woke pages, references, clubs, etc. than the U.S. Federal government.)

Utopianism is the root cancer. It has many varieties, from socialism to this weird new Wokism to various attempts at theocratic perfection, but the root poison is utopianism. If you believe man, nature and their various systems are perfectible, there is nothing so evil that it cannot be justified to achieve it.
Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at September 30, 2022 11:44 AM (t0OGg) --- Utopianism is essentially saying to God: were I you--even on a limited scale--things would be right. It usually involves tearing down all current systems of society and then quickly slapping something together when all the emergencies arise from the collapse of all systems. And then looking around for where to put all the spare pieces. The truly rational thing is to not accept that whatever you create will (of course!) be better than the original. 356 Methane hydrates sounds plausible. The explanation for the separate explosions happening round the same time could very well be that they were incompetently trying to restart operations.
Related note that he didn't mention -- he talked about the momentum of that slug of ice moving through the pipeline when it hits a bend, but he didn't mention the same thing a slug of water that's leaked into the pipeline and suddenly started moving. I've seen what that does, and it is just as destructive. Then they started getting really aggressively woke (and hipster woke at that), so I dropped them. They had a decent product, though, so I did some homework and found that they were just rebadging razors and handles from the South Korean company "Dorco." Their stuff is available under their own brand, too, for about the same price (around $1.25 - $1.50 per cartridge for the four-blade I use), so I just buy those now. I get about a year's worth at a time and leave 'em in a drawer. Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at September 30, 2022 12:00 PM (t0OGg) 386

I'm not sure what model I have. It has a straight guard and a short, heavy handle. It's not the travel one.
For the shaving cream, I like D.R. Harris Arlington very much. My brush is an Edwin Jagger large badger hair. Shaving is a nice part of my day. Posted by: bonhomme at September 30, 2022 *** They make a number of great models. I've been told to stay away from their blades. Usually I load Personna Platinums or Lab Blues in it. My regular brush is a synthetic I bought a year before the Coof Hysteria; I thought I didn't like the way it felt, but then, with time to experiment at home, I found I preferred it to my badger brush. I use either cream or soap according to whim; each does well for me. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, dreaming of Elsewhere at September 30, 2022 12:01 PM (J2vNu) 398

It's the new buzzword and it essentially has no real meaning at this point. If you're opposed to non-transparent rule by globalist-inclined bureaucrats in the contemporary pseudo-technocracy they're building, you're a "populist."
* Yep. Related and as was noted this morning, we're also currently witnessing in real time the "the party's switched names" phenomenon. Fascists believe in limited government and individual rights, while protecting democracy means the feds are involved in every facet of your life and finances. Mentioned this yesterday. "Populist" has been (like so many other words and concepts) completely inverted or distorted to the point it has become an empty, vague epithet screeched by the less intelligent, knowledgeable, or serious (i.e., most of the "press", half/more of the political class, and a huge number of dumbed down voters/"citizens").
Having a border. Having rule of law, in immigration and in general. Having rational, productive policies on economic matters, instead of stupid, destructive, obviously ill-advised ones. Not accepting completely science-free, ridiculous "scientific" rationales behind many destructive, stupid policies. Valuing human liberty and freedom. These are in no way "populist" in the historic meaning. Current use of "populist" is just one more illiterate slur by illiterates (especially the "educated") who don't understand anything important in the public policy area and substitute dumb tribalism and fake religions and resentment and social conformity for thought and civilized values. One of my kids went to Texas State. First semester was fine. He eventually got kicked out for academics, which is very hard to do, at the end of his second year summer. His band was pretty good, though, and his lead guitarist married my daughter and is now my son-in-law. So that's a win for the family, and my son had a lot of fun.
