Breaking all precedents, Biden won't -- or more likely, can't -- talk to DeSantis to make arrangements for the coming hurricane.

President Joe Biden hasn't spoken with Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida about the state's forthcoming hurricane.

Biden has called other Florida elected officials. He spoke over the phone with Tampa Mayor Jane Castor Tampa and St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welsh -- both Democrats -- and with Clearwater Mayor Frank Hibbard, a centrist Republican. The storm is set to hit all three cities.

Biden acknowledged the calls with mayors later in the day before kicking off a public event in the Rose Garden aimed at discussing healthcare costs. He did not mention DeSantis.

Presidents and governors typically hold a phone call at a time of natural disasters so presidents can offer federal support and bipartisanship. The Florida governor's office didn't immediately respond to an Insider inquiry on the matter.

I don't think he's capable of having a fluid conversation. I don't think his handlers want him talking with someone who might talk about any mental infirmities he shows on the phone calls.

Maybe his fee-fees are just hurt from DeSantis making fun of him.

Matteo Renzi, who led the center-left coalition against Giorgia Meloni's center-right coalition, calls the American propaganda press' hyperventilation about a resurgence of fascism in Italy "absolutely fake news." Remember, he's a man of the left and he's saying this is complete bullshit.

But CNN refuses to report it, says Ed Morrissey.

He defended her from charges that she was a "danger to democracy:"

"Personally I was against Georgia Meloni. I'm not her best friend. We are rivals but she is not a danger to democracy. The idea there is a risk of fascism in Italy is absolutely fake news."

Matteo Renzi was the Italian prime minister from 2014-2016. He’s a lefty but tells CNN:

You know where you can't find that reported, however? CNN. A search for "Renzi" comes up with 195 results, but the most recent is from July. The clip does not appear in the transcripts for the last couple of days. The only real mention of this CNN interview by CNN comes up in an edited clip on yesterday's Connect the World, in video but not in print. Becky Anderson introduces part of her interview with Renzi, which may or may not have been the same as from this clip above....

Anderson's Twitter handle is in the above clip. Perhaps it's not the same interview, but at one time or another, Renzi told Anderson that a return to fascism is "absolutely fake news." Why not play that declaration, especially since it goes directly to the point Anderson made in this intro?
The lack of reporting on this rather newsworthy tidbit from the news organization that created it raises suspicions of narrative journalism surrounding the Italian election results.

It's pretty damning when you quote around the part of the interview that directly addresses the Main Narrative you've been shitting out of your mouths for 48 hours.

Yes, NATO was skittish about Franco, but Spain was part of bilateral defense treaties during his lifetime and of course the CETME/G3 was a mainstay of NATO forces. That and the FAL were pretty much icons of the Cold War.

Franco needed a war to take power in Spain and luckily for that country had seen enough of it and resisted entry into WWII entirely. He did send a division of 'volunteers' to Russia, which probably helped get the more zealous people who wanted to fight far away from him.

They are both totalitarian, it is just that fascism as we think of it classically has usualy been successful with charismatic one person rule. But what about Stalin? Mao? China now is almost my perfect definition of fascist. Xi was definitely trying to make himself that charismatic leader, but the system survived the fall of Mao as a headless bureaucracy. thank you. I figured that was Dante. One thing I know is that he gets quoted a lot, and that he uses antique language like "Cammin." The modern word is "camino." That was a hint that it was Dante. The axe was only outside the city of Rome. It symbolized the power to deliver summary death penalties. In Rome itself the magistrates had to go to the courts, and even then they went for exile primarily. It shows the strength of numbers - you can break one stick, but not when tied in a bundle.

He went to a rally to try to break it up when Caesar was agitating for land for Pompey's veterans(?) Caesar's supporters attacked him, broke his fasces and dumped manure on his head.

274 For a while the fasces was mostly a symbol of state authority so it is found in a lot of neo-classical architecture. I don't think the designer of the Lincoln Memorial was trying to imply anything there. (look under his hands...)

So don't read too much into it's use as a symbol. The word though does have a meaning, and I think that meaning is retained in how we define fascism today. (except on the left - for them it just means someone I don't like.)

The fasces were carried by lictors, and represented the authority of the state. The axes represented the power of life and death, and thus were not always present.

Thus, if hauled before the consuls and the axes were present, that was a bad sign.

The fasces was representational of all the families of Rome bound together through the element of the state supporting the state's power, and comes from a very old story about a father having all his sons first break a single stick and then to break a bundle of them. The sticks are the various clans or families, the axe the power of the state, and the binding strip the government.

There are other interpretations, each one more wonderful than the last, but that is the traditional one.
The Fasces was chosen for the Senate building in DC because it was an example of individual elements uniting to be strong.

Tribunes did not carry fasces, as they were not ministers of the state. Not sure if they had any particular object to show their status, but they could not be stopped by any magistrate, and if they chose they could free any prisoner and carry him out. This extended to the ability to stop *any* activity by crying "Veto!" (I deny it!") They were a check by the Plebean class against abuse by the Patricians.

Italy conquered Ethiopia without any foreign help.

Italy only got involved in North Africa after declaring war on France and Britain. Italy didn't invade Greece until after it was part of the war.

So if Italy had just sat there, doing nothing, it would have been a lucrative transit point between east and west. The UK would not dared to blockade it lest it go to war, just as the British suffered Franco to sell arms to Germany.
