The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“The Department anticipates we will collectively miss our recruiting mission despite accessing more than 170,000 remarkable young men and women” Stephanie Miller, deputy assistant secretary of defense for military personnel policy

Quote II

“No one knows whether that process will lead to a recession or how significant a recession it will be. I don’t know the odds.” Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell

Quote III

“The Postal Service cannot reliably deliver mail to my own home, yet they can find the money and people to effectively digitally spy at scale, including on Americans engaged in First Amendment-protected activities,”Cato Institute senior fellow Patrick Eddington

Quote IV

"This nobody could’ve predicted over 13,000 refugee asylum seekers, migrants coming to New York City. We will always fulfill our moral and legal obligation to House and New Yorker. And those who come to the city, this is not a homeless issue. This is a migrant, refugee, asylum crisis that we are facing. And this is humanitarian action that was created by human hands. We should laugh at this satire. Instead I want to weep for our nation.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The FBI has assured the nation that they will get back to figuring out why that guy shot 411 people in Las Vegas four years ago once they're finished investigating parent-teacher school board meetings across the country.

"Something more pressing than investigating the worst mass shooting in our nation's history has come up: parents concerned about what their kids are learning in school," said FBI agent Lars Conner as he donned a MAGA hat and sunglasses to infiltrate a parent-teacher meeting. "This is our top priority right now. Trying to figure out why a rando totally went rogue and fired thousands of rounds out a hotel window on concertgoers back in 2017 has to go on the backburner, for now."

Hitler's experiments were deemed crimes against humanity. I guess this is different because "they" care.

In a push to create a “safer and more inclusive” environment, K-12 school districts are creating gender-affirming closets, giving students access to chest binders, stand-to-pee devices and makeup to help students change their gender identity.

Libraries, children’s hospitals and LGBTQ organizations are partnering with school districts to provide money and resources to build gender-affirming closets in the public institutions. The materials provided to students aid them in gender transitioning by mimicking the other sex.

It really is hard to follow Christ's admonishment of loving your enemy.

Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one. And my opinion is that there are more topics that are black and white and not gray. But then again, I'm not a mealy mouth Check Box Spokesbroad.

The White House declined on Monday to say whether major cities are safe while touting President Joe Biden’s efforts to fund police in response to rising crime.

This line of questioning was inspired in part by former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, now an MSNBC pundit, saying crime was a major vulnerability for Democrats in the midterm elections.

1354 Athlete Cardiac Arrests, Serious Issues, 922 of Them Dead, Since COVID Injection
It is definitely not normal for so many mainly young athletes to suffer from cardiac arrests or to die while playing their sport, but this year it is happening. Many of these heart issues and deaths come shortly after they got a COVID vaccine. While it is possible this can happen to people who did not get a COVID vaccine, the sheer numbers clearly point to the only obvious cause.

Important Notes: The number of dead are included in the total number. There are also dozens of reports that are not included in the total number shown in the headline because they are not or may not be vaccine-related.

The so-called health professionals running the COVID vaccine programs around the world keep repeating that “the COVID vaccine is a normal vaccine and it is safe and effective.”

gary dempsey 20 years
Gary Dempsey, professional soccer player played 500 games over 20 years, with no cardiac arrests.

In response to their pronouncement, here is a non-exhaustive and continuously growing list of mainly young athletes who had major medical issues in 2021/2022 after receiving one or more COVID vaccines. Initially, many of these were not reported. We know that many people were told not to tell anyone about their adverse reactions and the media was not reporting them. They started happening and ramping up after the first COVID vaccinations. The mainstream media still are not reporting most, but sports news cannot ignore the fact that soccer players and other stars collapse in the middle of a game due to a sudden cardiac arrest. Many of those die – more than 50%.

Let's forget about EVs for the moment. Do you think the ICE vehicle is too expensive now? They could be even more expensive if the National Transportation Safety Board has their way.

The National Transportation Safety Board is recommending that all new vehicles in the U.S. be required to have blood alcohol monitoring systems that can stop an intoxicated person from driving.

The recommendation, if enacted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, could reduce the number of alcohol-related crashes, one of the biggest causes of highway deaths in the U.S.

I believe this is a free market decision to be made by auto makers. If the manufacturer believes this is such a great thing, they will stand by it and attempt to market it.

I'm sorry to say, you can not legislate life to be free of risk.

Why is this in the news? Why is this in The ONT? Rules are for peons. Not the JEF and his family.

EXCLUSIVE: Barack Obama's Secret Service SUV parked in handicapped space for TWO HOURS while he enjoyed dinner with daughters Sasha and Malia at swanky LA sushi restaurant

Former President Barack Obama was pictured boarding his Secret Service SUV on Saturday, which was parked over a handicap spot in West LA's trendy Hamasaku sushi restaurant

The Secret Service vehicle was seen backing up to the handicap spot, where it remained for two hours

After dining out at the restaurant, the former president emerged alone as he waved goodbye to staff trying to give him free ice cream from the restaurant, which normally sells high-end desserts

Obama was at the restaurant on Saturday with his two daughters, Sasha and Malia, who live in LA, while Michelle was in Seneca Falls, New York, being inducted in the National Women's Hall of Fame

If it wouldn't be such a serious matter it would be funny. OK, technically speaking 25-30 armed FBI agents at your front door in the early morning hours perhaps doesn't constitute a SWAT team.

The FBI has denied sending a swat team of 25-30 agents to arrest Catholic pro-life activist Mark Houck for allegedly shoving an escort outside of a Planned Parenthood clinic last year.

Outrage ensued among conservatives throughout the weekend when it was reported that the FBI subjected Houck’s children to a fully armored SWAT raid last week under the order of the Department of Justice (DOJ).

[Towards the end of the story]

The FBI did not deny that up to 25-30 armored agents were on the scene or that Houck’s children witnessed the agents pointing rifles at their father and mother to arrest him for allegedly shoving someone in front of an abortion clinic.

Living in the Frozen Tundra my daydreams often turn to warm weather locations for a visit. Once upon a time I thought going to Hawaii to see an NFL Pro-Bowl game might be fun. Going to Vegas to see a flag-football game isn't what I had in mind.

Does anyone else see the danger in this concession over the safety of NFL football?

Not that anyone watches the Pro Bowl much anyway, and for good reason — the players don’t want to get banged up for a meaningless exhibition. The fans aren’t that interested in a game in which players aren’t invested, for whatever reason. And so the NFL will now reset the all-star game into a flag-football contest, which is even further removed from the weekly NFL experience that fans expect.

Where is all of this electricity coming from? Unicorns?

California is committing to a plan that will make it the first U.S. state to phase out gas-fueled furnaces and water heaters in homes, a move environmentalists are betting will provide a template for other states.

The Golden State will ban the sale of all new natural gas-fired space heaters and water-heating appliances by 2030, under a proposal unanimously approved by the California Air Resources Board on Thursday.

“We need to take every action we can to deliver on our commitments to protect public health from the adverse impacts of air pollution, and this strategy identifies how we can do just that,” board Chair Liane Randolph said. “While this strategy will clean the air for all Californians, it will also lead to reduced emissions in the many low-income and disadvantaged communities that experience greater levels of persistent air pollution.

In lighter news. Or maybe not. This seems pretty shitty.

When he told his ex-wife he was going to piss on her grave, he wasn't kidding.

In a move definitely not intended to send the message, “You were always my Number 1,” a New Jersey man has been caught urinating daily on his ex-wife’s grave.

The suspect is apparently holding a 48-year grudge and has been urinating on the grave of his ex each morning, according to the New York Post. The deceased woman’s kids first became alarmed when they found bags of feces left at the grave site.

I wouldn't know if they are good pets, but they sure are tasty.

Because my father’s allergies prevented us from having more traditional pets, my family was an early adopter of the trend for backyard chickens that took hold among middle class Londoners in the 2000s. Many happy childhood hours were spent feeding kitchen scraps to, collecting eggs from, and playing with our hens – which largely consisted of their good-naturedly tolerating “going for rides” with us on the garden swings and slide. I’d cry when they met their ends at the hands of the local foxes, which was unfortunately not an uncommon occurrence – we cycled through around a dozen chickens over the years in which we kept them.

I find chickens to be sweet, funny, characterful creatures. I also, with some guilt and inner conflict, find them to be delicious. After years of flirtation with “flexitarianism”, and even a brief stint of being almost fully vegan, I find that nothing really feels as good to eat as meat and dairy. But while I’m just about okay with the idea of animals being slaughtered for food, I do also think it’s important for them to have a decent standard of living. I take a keen interest in the welfare of chickens in particular: as a child, I started following the activities of the British Hen Welfare Trust, and it’s long been my ambition, once I have a garden of my own, to adopt a couple of their “ex-batts” – retired battery hens saved from slaughter.

Some sanity returns to NYC. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day.

NEW YORK – A Manhattan supreme court judge ruled on Friday that police officers who were fired because of the city’s COVID vaccine mandate had to be reinstated. The ruling is a a major victory for members of the NYPD’s largest police union.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Lyle Frank wrote the reverberating decision, saying the city’s vaccine mandate on the Police Benevolent Association was invalid “to the extent it has been used to impose a new condition of employment” on the union, the New York Post reported.

He meandered through pay scales and Covid money and all that jazz. Then he mentioned the woke military as a possibility.

But to me, he missed one big elephant in the room. It's my opinion many people on the right (where the bulk of the recruits come from) don't feel like they are part of this country any more. They don't recognize it. And who is sending their kids to fight for a country that doesn't want them?

I believe they help keep the train from falling off the bridge if it derails. They can't stop a derailment, but falling off a bridge is a bad thing for a train so they keep the train going straight if things go FUBAR.

109 Well, we have a mystery on our hands.

The completed, but unused Nord Stream 2 pipeline was apparently sabotaged near the Danish island of Bornholm last night. The pipeline runs from Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Germany refused to turn the pipeline on after the invasion of Ukraine, but it was pressurized with $200 million of natural gas (almost all of which escaped after the "leak").

So who did the sabotage? The Usual Suspects will claim that Russia did it, but there's no reason for Russia to sabotage the line. The line originates in Russia. If Russia doesn't want to have gas flowing over the line, all they have to do it turn a valve.

So who did it? Ukraine? Germany? The EU? The US (which always opposed construction of the line)? Somebody else?

Spent a week this summer in Wyoming, there's an old truss bridge built by the army in 1875 near Fort Laramie, for the soldiers at the time. It's still up and you can walk across the Platte.

You drive highways now and take for granted everything on the road. But cross a decent sized river on a bridge this old, on foot and look down at the rush of water and you realize it wasn't that long ago that doing such a thing without this bridge was deadly-to-impossible.

140 A little economic insight from an insignificant island just off the Texas Gulf Coast.

The Port of Galveston, while not as busy as the Port of Houston, still sees a strong flow of shipping. Though only a single track crosses from the Mainland to the Island, the tracks divide multiple times, till there are something like twenty of thirty sidings all along the Port, clear down to the 10th St. pier.

Up around 37th St. though, at least a dozen of those sidings are occupied by about a hundred BNSF engines, sitting idle. Most have been idle there for a year, and bit by bit, the numbers of the assemblage grows.

That's a LOT of Motive Power that's NOT out moving freight out on the Nation's rails. That's economic inaction, in action. And I'll wager there are similar such sidings scattered about, from Sea to Shining Sea.

Didn't really want to live near either family for various reasons, so we settled in a "halfway-ish" place. Weather is great, low humidity, four seasons. 174 The Administrative State at its finest - why make elected officials decide things, when you can have unelected bureaucrats make decisions to provide cover for the politicians.

California Air Resources Board members are appointed to six-year terms, one-third being replaced every two years.

Once appointed, Board members cannot be replaced by the appointing authority unless they no longer meet the requirements of the position, for example no longer being a member of a specific Air Pollution Control District.

So, if by some fluke a Republican got elected, and even if could get his appointees confirmed by the legislature, he would be unable to appoint a majority of the CARB board until four years was up, just as he faced reelection.

259 >> that claim that the mRNA was staying at the injection site is untrue *most* of the time.

Indeed. And that has been disproven by other means as well. mRNA particles get distributed all over the body, and continue to produce spike protein for months.

The body doesn't break it down like they thought it would, and that has to do with the psuedo-uridine substitution they made.

And note they didn't test any of this beforehand, just went with it.

Which implies?

The presumption when reading other studies about what mRNA does when it gets to kidneys (I think, maybe pancreas, but something cancer related) and reproductive organs, has been that transit around the body was fairly rare and might have been misapplication of the shot (too close to a blood vessel), or due to the concentration of the shot (there has been quite of variability in just how much mRNA you get dosed with which is thought to be related to the nastier side effects-some lots have a great deal more VAERS reports than most of the rest).

But if mRNA transit is common, those side effects are going to be more common than previously thought. Which means the estimates on numbers of people effected are going to have to be revised upwards.

A lot of the rail road beds were laid on contract, with a certain amount paid by investors, with guarantees of federal payments on completion of various sections and percentages of the track.
One local one was supposed to go over the Cascades and the Federal contract was written that certain amount of the money was to be paid when the tracks were completed to cross the summit. Because the company was running out of money they just completed the summit section and dragged an engine and one car up to where the tracks started most of the way up the pass, to run it across the summit to the other side, where they had to park it because there was no tracks going on either.
IIRC the company went broke because they didn't have sufficient funding and the feds wouldn't pay.

We had a really horrific DWI wreck here a few months ago. Young couple, engaged to be married, killed in a head-on with a drunk driver. But the drunk was not some poor sap driving home from the bar, who fell asleep and drifted across the center line. He was a full-blown psycho who had been arrested several times for beating his wife, and other acts of violence. There is no drunk driving law that will deter assholes like that.

And then you get the carload of young bucks, all drunk, and the driver gets a fit of macho, and tries to demonstrate how he is Stirling Moss, or something.

Most times, it's not just the booze.

Our first snow last year was 6 inches on October 6. Next snow was November. Snows here are a few inches and don't last long. Northern Utah gets more snow as do the higher elevations. Far southwest Utah is Mojave Desert (St. George) and rarely gets snow, but it is blazing hot in summer. 292 Where are the lawyers\lawsuits?
Posted by: AmericanKestrel

Lawyers don't just pull these kinds of lawsuits out of their asses on a whim. Any lawyer who intends to file one needs to first do all their legal research and basically be prepared to file a motion for summary judgment establishing every element of their client's case (except the amount of damages) and defeating all the anticipated affirmative defenses. There is a ton of pre-filing work to do.

297 The real story of the Hell’s Angels biker gang and the military

The first Hell’s Angels Motorcycle Club (HAMC) was founded in the areas of Fontana and San Bernardino, California in 1948. From there, the club grew exponentially, becoming one of the largest in the world. The club has since earned a reputation in media and popular culture, thanks to a number of high-profile raids and wars on its various national charters, and in no small part to Gimme Shelter, a 1970 documentary about a riot during a Rolling Stones concert. The Stones’ management allegedly paid the Hell’s Angels to provide security at the concert and paid them in beer, which was a terrible idea. As a banner once read on the club’s website, “when we do right, no one remembers; when we do wrong, no one forgets.”

They are an anal compulsive group of folks, esp as regards expensive planes crashing. As you know, THC hangs around a long time and correlation between low levels and performance impairment is controversial. No solution as to how to monitor for non etoh impairment other than a road side assessment and blood screen at local ED if indicated.

In Chandler, AZ, there was a woman who had a court ordered breathalyzer in her car due to DUI or two. She took her ten year old daughter with her when she went drinking, just had the kid sit in the car. Kid would blow into the breathalyzer, car would start, mommy drives home.

She did get busted. Had the cops following her, sirens and lights, to her home where she calmly pulled into her garage and closed the door.

Here, one has no idea if they'll be on a civil or criminal "pool", and the odds of me being chose for either, are indeed, slim. But I'll not scheme to dodge serving, cause us Horde, well, we're the best hope a jury might have to see justice served. I don't think any others would be able to sniff out a rat cop or prosecutor quite as adroitly, or conversely, realize when the guilty sonofabitch just needs a fair trail afore we hangz 'im.

Just so long as there's no feddle involvement feeb lab or such. Then, it's a hard "not guilty", because feebs lie. Default setting.

Will report more as the program moves forward, of course. But first, TX MoMeet! (can you hear the voir dire.. Mr. JSND, do you have any opinion or knowledge about guns?") LOL

421 I tore into the passenger door of the Avanti today. It was not as bad as the driver's side. The nut plates for the hinges are still free to move, allowing for adjustment. Top hinge bushings were worn out. so had to make a trip to NAPA. Pin and bushing kit marked "for Dodge" had the right size Oilite bushings in it. Top hinge now rebuilt. One of the bolts holding the lower hinge to the door snapped off, so I had to remove the (heavy!) door entirely, and lay it on a work stand to coax the stub out with heat and Vise Grips. Got 'er done, though.

Found another Bubba fuckup, though. The door sill plates. Original Avanti door sill plates were made of rubber, with a molded-in pattern, bonded to a sheet metal armature. The sheet metal would rust, and make for warts in the rubber cover. Repops are mucho expensive. Bubba made decent sill plates out of rubber carpet runner, with stainless steel edges. Not bad. What Bubba did wrong was install about half the finishing washers upside down. Doh!

Well, the canner is loaded and going. Long run for "chicken meal mix" that Miley wanted to do. I mentioned it last night on the ONT, with a link to a video on that.

Anyway, this was raw chicken and a bunch of vegetables all packed in quart jars, then boiling chicken broth poured on top. Getting the bubbles out was a process. And you don't want the canner water too hot because the jars will be cool.

Anyway, the thermal mass was such it took about 35 minutes before it even thought about building pressure, then another 10 minutes to get it up to 10 psig.

90 minutes total processing time, about one hour left on that clock now. And it will likely take well over 30 minutes to cool down to atmosphere afterwards.

For 400+ casualties in Vegas, that hotel room's carpet should've been buried about two-case depth's deep in expended brass, in an ejection pattern to the right of the gun(s), as supposedly emplaced from the firing points in the suite.

There was maybe what... a hundred, two hundred brass casings to be seen in those photos? If that.

I need interior doors. I want them out of wood, stain grade, because I'm doing wood doors with the white crown top and moldings. One reason, I'm an eccentric asshole, and the second reason, because I can. I spent years making people's houses palatial, so I want to do a wee bit of it for me, finally. I'm thinking it'll withstand about ten ram strikes and would weaken enough from a ribbon charge, that a couple more ram strikes would do it.

But I'm not planning on "them" as the factor. I've made it PROOF against the average door kicking thief, that that, it most certainly is. Front and back. Detached garage, FTW.

Another interesting thing I learned back in door kicker days... you can get a security screen door, and put in front of your heavy hardwood door, and it makes it VERY difficult to use a hand held ram to get through it. It's a layered defense, so the screen door takes a lot of the energy needed to get through the real door.

And it's not very expensive to do.

They've probably put strict regulations on max enema temperature right now.

Hell, I think they're going to start shooting people who heat water pretty soon.

575 This is all about a slow cool down. There's pressure in them thar jars, and you don't want to get him out in the cool too fast.
Posted by: publius

I just leave the jars in the canner overnight.

Morning still a bit warm, fine, start again.

That's usually fine, 99% of the time. However, while you don't want to cool 'em down too fast, there's a possible problem with them staying warm too long: flat sour.

There are some thermophilic bacteria, that if present in sufficient quantity, will thrive at around 140F or so. This is not toxic at all, but it will give a sour taste. It's "flat" because they don't make gases.

Two lids popped and sealed on the way out of the canner. 5 more to go.

We had a little siphoning, but not out of the ordinary. A little smell and skim on top of the canner water. Liquid level in all jars looks 5 x 5. We'll see how far it drops on cooling.

Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (Mzdiz) at September 27, 2022 03:34 AM (Mzdiz)

587
5 lids now popped, two more to go. When it's right, and all air over the head space was expelled and there's nothing but water vapor under the lid, the pressure will drop rapidly.

Vapor pressure of water at room temperature is something like 0.2 psi or something. Basically, full vacuum agin' atmosphere. So when it's right, those lids will pop even when the jars are still pretty hot.

I did a great job of separating normal life from that life. Socially I'm a different person, but in my element though, damn... I'm sure pictures would surface. lol

Debby, here's the video that got Miley all fired up to do this chicken meal mix:

https://tinyurl.com/2pvupxvx

That's Rose Red. That woman knows what she's doing, and I can tell she can cook. Treat her right, and she'd keep you well fed and how. That video is sort of a general pressure canning tutorial, using the chicken meal mix thing as the food.

There at the end, she'll show you how to make pot pies out of it. It has to be thickened out of the jars.

Howdy, DDS,

Sorry about the funeral in your life. Yes, the kittens are fine, though I suspect the little Siberian and I will take some time to get used to each other -- she's more interested in play than in lap time. As for the water, the contractor came yesterday and investigated. The water is definitely coming from elsewhere. Not much water at present.

614 Not to throw too much water on it, but the claims of large numbers of people dying from cardiac events during sports is actually unlikely to be covid vaccine related.

The problem is cognitive bias. Before the covid vaccine, people didn't really notice stories where athletes collapsed (and sometimes died), but they happened with considerable regularity. I've looked at the underlying numbers going back at least 5 or 6 years, and they don't appear to be significantly higher at all after the covid vaccines were created. Basically the problem is that now we are tuned to look for these cases, but they happened before covid too, at roughly the same rate.

I personally had a heart attack playing hockey. My best friend's son dropped dead in his early 20's playing a silly game that involved physical exertion.

Most people forget Jiri Fisher nearly dying on the Red Wings bench. Or it happening to Rich Peverly of the Dallas Stars back in 2014. Or Jay Bouwmeester of the St. Louis Blues.

Posted by: P.Mo. at September 27, 2022 09:55 AM (6Cx+M)

615 As for the guy saying "I've played 500 games and never seen this before", 500 games is a tiny sample. What do I mean? Take just the NFL, which has a mere 16 game season. But there's 32 teams. That means there's actually 16x16 games, or 256 games in just the NFL. In hockey there's an 82 game season and 32 teams. That means in one season there are 1,312 NHL games. There are 162 games per MLB team, and 30 teams. So that's 2,430 games per season. Point is, 500 games is not a huge sample size. And those are just the most prominent professional level sports leagues. For each there's also numerous second and third level semi-pro leagues. And then there's also a plethora of other sports, and many individual sports.

To date I've not seen any convincing evidence the numbers are any higher post-covid vaccination than before. But I am open to evidence.
