And here I thought the bride was supposed to make the "Grand Entrance" not the groom.

A GROOM suffered a broken collar bone after trying to show off on a dirt bike at his wedding.

The bride was waiting with a checkered flag for her new spouse's dramatic entrance when he skidded and toppled off the bike.

Human trap shooting.

A witness at the scene told Jon Burkett they heard their neighbor screaming "don't shoot." They said their neighbor then jumped from a third-story balcony and when the man jumped, shots were fired.

The neighbor also told Jon Burkett that the man then hit the ground and they went to help him. Then they saw two men run off from the complex.

Crime Insider Sources said K-9s tracked the scents of the two men towards a retention pond area. Investigators now have people in the area looking for the two men described by the witness.

The ONT Musical Interlude & Close-out Emporium

On this day: 17 Sep 1931
The first long-playing record, a 33 1/3 rpm recording, was demonstrated at the Savoy Plaza Hotel in New York by RCA-Victor. The venture was doomed to fail however due to the high price of the record players, which started around $95 (about $1140 in today's dollars) and wasn't revived until 1948. via thisdayinmusic.com

Born on this day: 17 Sep 1923 Hank Williams (born Hiram King Williams). The American singer-songwriter and musician is regarded as one of the most important country music artists of all time. Williams recorded 35 singles (five released posthumously) that would place in the Top 10 of the Billboard Country & Western Best Sellers chart, including 11 that ranked No.1. During his last years Williams's consumption of alcohol, morphine and painkillers severely compromised his professional life. Williams died aged 29 on January 1, 1953. via thisdayinmusic.com

Well, Genghis posted something on his Twitter feed from a roofer who lives in the nearby suburb of Vancouver, who has had his two work trucks stolen repeatedly in Portland, and can't get any response from city government, as an example of what needs to be fixed.

Cutting metal with any kind of saw, be it abrasive, or a toothed wheel, creates a lot of heat. Rings tend to be made of metal with exceptionally good heat conductivity, so there is a risk of burning sensitive skin. Bolt cutters work by plastic deformation of the metal being cut, and very little heat is evolved. Also, the cut happens so quickly that the ring can be spread and removed in seconds.

104 Really indicates the social difference between the Laptop Class and the Working Class.

Portland city hall is still closed to the public.

60% of Portland city workers have been able to work from home for the last couple years, as opposed to the 40% of losers who have to actually come into work (cops, firemen, water and sewer workers, etc.).

Needless to say, the 60% now think that working from home is a right that they should enjoy in perpetuity, and they're not afraid to say so.

It gets better - numerous Oregon state workers moved to different states during the Work From Home period.

It is the position of the labor union representing state workers that if one of these remote workers is called in for an in-person meeting, that the State has to pay their travel expenses traveling back to Oregon.

The specific case is a guy working for the Oregon Treasury Department who is now being required to come back to Oregon quarterly for meetings. How DARE the State suggest that he pay his own travel expenses!

Still follow the Huskies. I am now a New Mexico State University Aggies faithful. Let me tell you on days like today being faithful is a very wobbly proposition: Wisconsin 66 - NMSU 7.

There seems to be some confusion amongst the Aggies receivers that they should catch the ball, some more confusion amongst the defensive secondary that letting the Wisconsin receiver catch the ball and then chasing after him into the endzone is not how this is supposed to go, the NMSU FG kicker apparently thinks the space between the uprights is off limits, The Aggies OL seems to think it good fun to let the defensive line backers chase the NMSU QB around the field while the Aggies DL, when they aren't getting plowed into the earth, are functionally waving a French victory flag.

As compensation I can walk up and get a 50-yard line ticket for $35.00 and the team mascot, Pistol Pete, has guns and a NMSU authorized beer named for him. #AggiesUp #WobbleOn (the wobble part comes from the fight song that discusses getting drunk and wobbling around Las Cruces).

135 Kingsley Amis once wrote that he thought Ambrose Bierce would be the last writer or other cultural figure to have a question mark in his dates of birth and death. He went to see the Mexican Revolution in 1913, age 71, and was never seen again, so no one knows whether he died of natural causes or was killed in the revolution, or in what year.

However, Amis was wrong. Hank Williams should also have a question mark. He was alive, though not at all well, at 9 p.m. on New Year's Eve of 1952, and dead and cold at 6 a.m. on New Year's Day of 1953. This post - and the U.S. postage stamp - give him the benefit the doubt and say he died in 1953, but there is in fact no way to tell whether his heart stopped beating before or after midnight.

A Coug and a Husky go hunting and come across a tent in the forest. Two beautiful women were camping there and are clearly looking for some fun.
The Coug asks, "So ladies, are you game?"
"Yes!" they reply and start taking off their clothes.
So the Husky shoots them.

187 The ultimate Portland left-wing politician is in a tough race for governor, and these stories about government workers demanding the right to never come into the office again without being paid extra compensation is not helping.

In the tech field, I'm seeing more "Remote First" claims by the organizations. Its actually pretty cool because teams are spread across multiple time zones.

The working remote economy has allowed a lot of people to get the Hell out of crowded, expensive, crime-ridden, leftist urban areas and flourish in areas that appeal more to their own interests.

That is, remote work has reversed the Diversity push because people can move to where they can be with their Own People.

WEF wants everyone jammed into densely packed urban areas. Remote workers' impediment is only reliable power and broadband. When the last company I worked for went Remote and closed the office due to C19, we added a dude from Florida, another from California, one guy moved to Hawaii, three picked up in the D/FW area and I went to the woods of ETX. Meetings are much better now because the ad hoc hallway version, while it was great for creativity-on-the-fly, was death to productivity.

With Zoom/Teams/GoogleMeet its easier to look up people's status, and rope-in only those who are necessary, record the meeting and the white board, and have set time-limits. It is far more respectful of time.

The downside is a lot of people turn off the camera so it is difficult to read expressions or have visual cues to when someone might want to speak. Its an acquired skill and most people are much better at it now than a few years ago.

263 The rule "used" to be - no rechargeable batteries for emergency things like radios or flashlights, things that sit for months at a time and then are expected to perform when needed. For regular routine use they would save money.

Tend to lean towards the Cougs. Know alot of Huskies. More than a few are insufferable . My uncle used to take me to Cougar games in the late sixties when they played their home games at Albi stadium in Spokane. Highlight was versus Jim Plunkett and the Stanford INDIANS. Stanford has the ball on the 3 yard line. First play rb blows through the line and is off to the races down the sideline. At about the 50, a drunk Cougar comes out of the stands and lays the guy out. Ref picked up the ball and signaled td. Cops lead the guy off in cuffs to cheers from the crowd. Paper said it was the best tackle of the day. Even made Sports Illustrated. I think the final score was 60 to 3

275 One thing I found interesting, A while back I wanted a 2 burner Coleman gasoline stove, and Lantern to round out my kit. Partly out of nostalgia more than any practical use. A green coleman stove is almost required.

What I found, the stoves are almost dirt cheap, and can usually be had almost free, even in clean almost new condition. If you're like me, I don't want to make a career out of it, and willing to pay a few bucks for convenience. Click a few buttons, boom! delivered to your doorstep.

But the lanterns - holy smokes, they are "hot"with collectors. Particularly the Japanese. Not every Coleman lantern is high dollar, but certain nice ones will quickly sell for a $1000 to $1500, the chrome or nickel plate models, Sears "gold bond" lanterns, etc. Really strange. I bought a red single mantle 200A, which I don't ever remember seeing growing up. They were always green, with two mantles. Hissed a lot, and drew bugs in.

Rick Rubin produced the series of albums that feature Johnny Cash stripped down. Collectively these albums are known today as the American Recordings (there is also an album by that name which I think is the genesis for the series).

I find them some of his best and most poignant work with American IV an absolute masterpiece, maybe one of the greatest albums of the 20th century.

The tech for LED lights is changing rapidly. The manufacturers seem to be actually taking optics into consideration now, and making lenses and reflectors that use the LED sources to best advantage.

I went and fetched the maglite I spoke about above. 9 round plastic LED's, one is dead, and one flickers rapidly. Put it some newer batteries, and it lit brighter, but is no world beater, for sure. Has an Accell Well Service logo on it. Got it for a buck or two at Value Village.

308 Yeah, I like the 50s version of the Coleman stove, but it was the later style - with the red tank - that I wanted. Reminds me of fishing trips and scout camp. Cold mornings and brewing coffee, there's just a certain sound they make that brings back memories of other times, other places. Propane sure is easier (except in really cold temps, where it doesn't work at all).

The early version is noticeable in that it just says "Coleman" on it, as the years go by they started printing a longer and longer boilerplate novel with instructions. (And probably warnings like "Do Not Stick Yer Wang In Fuel Pump Receptacle" etc.) Sad.

Thanks. I'm a big Nash fan. Here's a Nash poem I found one time by sheer accident (perusing a book of poetry in a friend's parents' house). It is humorous, but not funny. It's probably the only truly political poem he ever wrote. Definitely made an impact on me (which is the sign of a good poet/poem)..

The Japanese

How courteous is the Japanese;/He always says, "Excuse it, please."/He climbs into his neighbor's garden,/And smiles, and says, "I beg your pardon";/He bows and grins a friendly grin,/And calls his hungry family in;/He grins, and bows a friendly bow;/"So sorry, this my garden now."

This appears to be the latest Universal Basic Income experiment. The Left has been pushing this sinister idea for at least a decade and in a few cases has gotten them implemented. IIRC Andrew Yang is supporter of UBI as is the tech oligarchy. Giving free cash to the chronic homeless to encourage them to life better is nuts; all they are going to do is by drugs and booze, or get ripped off.

Maybe rechargeable batts have improved in the last several years.

Use enneloop batteries made by Panasonic. They hold their charge for months (years?). Put a small paper spacer between the anode of the battery and the contact in the flashlight so that there is no circuit. Remove it when in use.

It is racket. A homeless bureaucracy is created who then sends out "navigators" to sign up the "homeless" who then get handed off to case managers who report to managers who go to meetings and network with other welfare agencies so wholistic homeless solutions can be found which require new agencies to coordinate these new efforts. $12,000? You have it exactly correct. There is like layer after layer of bureaucrats the work for an unknown number of government and NGOs we have never heard of and never will. Most importantly they have zero accountability to actually solve anything as their charter is to provide "services" to the "homeless." And like bureaucracies they find new markets for their services which in turn requires more money. Of course, this all feeds into the left wing politicians who use to virtue signal, get elected, then provide the requested funds because they are compassionate. Well, as long as none of it comes with in two zip codes of where they live.

I lived in DT Seattle around the time of the Wall Street BS and witnessed the first stirring of the soon to be vast homeless industrial complex. A little later "homelessness" took off and the City/County started tossing big money at this and the bureaucracy to run it. Little by little it blossomed while sending its roots everywhere in the government. It was when I was managing low income apartments it become starkly clear how vast the machinery was; I dealt with countless case managers. Later I volunteered for an agency that provided, in part, services to people dying of AIDS. It was there I got to see how they interlocked with each other. I am profoundly and rightly cynical of everything surrounding the subject. Homeless will not end. Too many people depend on it now and I am not including one single "homeless" person here. The "homeless" are the well head of their wealth; there is not a chance that well head will be plugged.

That makes sense if Google was providing my cell service. They are not; they get zero monetization from that. And since they control Android they monetize that as long as I own any Android phone; they need do nothing to capture that let alone effectively paying me 10X what my old device is worth. It is puzzling to me. There is a reason why this makes sense to them but I can't get my mitts around it.

I argue that homeless and transients are different. There are people that are in a bad place and need a shelter for a reason and want to get out of it etc. thats fine. Those people need help and im fine with that.

I live in a city now that has tried to expand social services to invite transients to the town cause "they are people too". Fuck that. They are people that choose to be homeless and go to towns that give them shit. Why we threw her ass out of office. But we still have vagrants in town. And Karen's saying "they have to go somewhere".

393 I argue that homeless and transients are different. Posted by BruceWayne

Homeless is a catchall word of convenience. In that word are severely mentally ill, people in a transitory bad place, and the rest: drug addicts, drunks, criminals, the lifestyle homeless (bums, hobos, transients, etc.) and various combinations of those. The first two comprise fairly small and well-defined groups and they fit a model of what public help can address in a reasonable manner. It is the last group where the real problem exists, they either like they life or beyond external help until they decide to make a change (not likely). I am like why bother with them; they aint' changing one bit. The further problem is the billions spend on them is misdirected from places where they might do actual good such a tutoring kids, stem programs, etc.

I'm pretty sure we arguing the same point here. A psycho lib mayor overran our town with homeless. When a year prior we were doing ok with the shelter and finding jobs and safe place for abused women etc. then in 6 months of "hey come here" she literally said we want to be San Francisco. We were inundated with transients that no one here wanted or cared to deal with. And she of course didnt have the resources to handle it and asked for a special tax assessment cause it was "a crisis". Yah that was voted down, but we were stuck with all these professional homeless (that's what i call vagrants)

We absolutely are making the same big point. Once that cash starts flowing in it brings in more and more "clients" that need more and more "homeless professionals" to provide them with more and more "services." It is an endless cycle and accomplishes nothing which I argue is by design. Most of these "clients" are vagrants, transients, hobos, bums, drunks, drug addicts, criminals and a thousand other words to describe them.
