I never got my dad's dislike of June, until I realized Johnny Cash's music fundamentally changed because of her. My dad liked the earlier JC, the rebellious one, and June tamed Johhny. Kind of like how domestic life tamed my dad.

He also hated Marie Osmond....but I kind of share that hatred with him.

80 If I lived in the area, I'd go around and take dozens and dozens of pictures of "signage" on Martha's Vineyard. Most, with a ruler temporarily stuck to the sign, to get the scale "just right".

Then I'd have a bunch of vinyl peel n' stick done, with the signs "just as they are", but En Espanol.

Get a Horde of Morons to ride the ferry over to The Vineyard (as the locals self-style it), and work those En Espanol signs *everywhere*. Before and after photos. Even more, post a hidden GoPro or similar camera aimed at the sign, to get video of the "festivities" as they're discovered. With audio, of course. You'd get more concentrated Anti-Hispanic prejudiced cussage in one compilation video than an entire season of Brown Lives Matter.

Out of my reach to do from here, but it's a fun thought!

150 I saw a guy on a bulldozer discover a spring once - he wasn't looking for it. We were on an oil field location (this was many years back) and a dozer operator was clearing some woods out on the side. He got into a little wet spot, and tried to clean it out. It was a D-5 cat, and he didn't think he'd have any problem. But he bogged down a little more, so he started going back and forth more. It just got thicker, and more water started coming out. He didn't quit until the treads were completely underneath the mud, and he could step out of his seat straight onto the ground. We tried hard not to laugh.

189 The Teenage Rebellion meme has a large hole right through the center of it. Sex until marriage, yeah right.
Males nowadays are checking out and very few of the younger generation of males are active within of the sexual marketplace. Majority of females nowadays are having sex with a smaller pool of males. With online porn, as a male, there is no need to engage with women and put yourself at risk in any way, shape or form. This is not healthy for society.

The meme is BS, the majority of women are full throttle in the sexual marketplace. It's males that aren't. The insinuation that females are being chaste nowadays is utter BS.

Oz does very well with women in the Collar counties. No joke, when women meet him in person, they swoon. He is very attractive to women in person without being smarmy.

How much cheating Philly can do is always the question, but right now Oz is polling 6 points ahead of where Toomey was at this point in the race.

I won't lie, I'm part of that club. Why would I get mixed up in an obviously rigged game for questionable benefits? Also worth noting that one of the traditional places that responsible adults found each other--one or the other's workplace--has been taken off the table by the bureaucracy so it's pretty much just church (only applies to the dwindling number of religious youngsters), bars (lol), and internet dating (lololololol).

251 @204 CppThis-I like the meme too. Even though I've completely blown the sex before marriage in my life out of the water, it is the way things should be. The way feminism/cultural marxism has destroyed the relationship between men and women, our culture and especially the church, it is what makes the meme laughable. Feminism and what it has done to women in general, and yes even amongst women that claim and view themselves as traditionally conservative(trad-cons) and anti-feminist will default fall back into the Feminist 101 camp when it suits them. They rely on it heavily. Just say one thing that is an unflattering truth about women and for some it is hell's bells. It happens right here at AoS with a few (not all) of the ettes. It's the damnedest thing to witness.
My issue with the meme is it is pure fantasy and not even close to what is happening today especially amongst the younger generations.

Wooley's big break professionally came when he was cast as the drover Pete Nolan on Rawhide (1959–1966). Wooley also wrote and directed some of the episodes.

Sheb Wooley is also credited as the voice actor for the Wilhelm scream, having appeared on a memo as a voice extra for Distant Drums in which he had an acting role. This was later confirmed by his widow Linda Dotson. The stock recording of the distinctive scream has been used by sound-effects teams in over 200 films.

277 I have a lovely ramen restaurant here in Las Cruces. One day I just did not want noodles (the broth and veggies were plenty). After placing my order my waitress made a scrunchy face and said in a perfect Japanese infused English said, "No Noddle?" Singular here is key as as is lilting rise of her voice. Ever since then my goto incredulous phrase is, of course, "No Noodle?" Try it sometime, it will make your day.

278 I am inordinately pleased with myself today. Did a nice piece of fabricating, if I do say so myself. I am making a spacer, to fit between a fiberglass dune buggy body and the cut-down VW floor pan upon which it is supposed to sit. Placing the body on the pan disclosed interference at both ends, with the transaxle in the back, and the shock towers in the front. A spacer seemed to be the answer. Started making one out of 1 and 1/4 inch square steel tubing. Going across the front of the floor pan entailed an arc be made. I used my chop saw to cut slots through the bottom and sides of the piece of tube, bent it until the slots closed up, and it had the same curve as the floorpan. Welded up the cuts, ground smooth, and I had a nifty smooth curve in the tubing. It really looks factory-made.

299 AOP...how much weight do you figure that square tubing spacer is going to add to the build?

Doing any horsepower tricks engine wise, to power-up the greater mass? Bosch 009 distributer, Bag o' Snakes exhaust, thinner cylinder base gasket for slightly greater compression, stuff like that? Oh, and the classic "degreed" 6" vs 8" pulley wheel at the crank.

I think the VW air cooled Beetle motor is about the most fun engine to work on. It ought to be a required semester in High School, it can teach so much about how things WORK.

I am guessing less than ten pounds. This is thin-wall tubing.
I am building this buggy strictly old-school; the way i would have done it (and did) back when I was a poor 20 year old student. It's getting a 40 HP 1200 cc 1961 Beetle engine, which I happen to have one, and it runs nice. Not being entirely oblivious to the passage of time, I elected to use a 1970 transaxle, which will also bolt up to a 1600 dual-port engine, which all the cool kids use now.
And I will probably use the stock VW muffler, which actually flows better than the "dual cannons" favored by the buggy crowd.

I had thought about running the original six volt electrics, too, but i am wavering on that.

312 AOP. Yeah, those dual cannons have always yielded dubious results. Bag o' Snakes though, not only sounded good, but flowed great, but had the same resonance and backpressure as stock, but could flow about 15% more exhaust gas at full throttle. Sounded better in the bargain, too.

I learned on the 1600 Dual Port. I've seen upgrades with watercooled heads, dual plug heads, and even an exotic show of machining mastery, with a DOHC setup eliminating the pushrods, and running belts Gold Wing style off of a crank pulley. Crazyville, that.

Simplest VW adaptations are the ones for aviation. They very much want KEEP IT SIMPLE in every aspect of the things, and so, they do. Glad your subframe is coming in so lightweight. Maybe paint it bright red or blue to show it off, vs. "black" making it look part of the whole?

I painted the static parts of the front axle beam red, because I had a gallon can of red water based rust paint. The moving parts got painted black. Why? because I could. Wheels are blue because I had a gallon blue oil-based rust paint salvaged from the town dump. Wheels were sandblasted and painted with rust-converting primer before being sprayed blue. They turned out real nice.
Money out of pocket? Real small, so far.

The original finish of the body was orange or gold metalflake. Pretty sure it is a "Manx clone" made by one of the many builders who ripped off the Meyers Manx design. Heh. I put a cassette deck into a '54 Studebaker, with a six volt positive ground system, and built an inverter that developed 12 volts, negative ground, for the deck. The inverter was basically a push-pull oscillator, using a dual 6-volt center-tapped filament transformer, and it stacked the base circuit voltage, and the collector circuit voltage in a filter network and rectified it. And the inverter only ran if there was a load on it. I just sort of fluked into the design. But it worked just great. No hum or static.

You could have an entire thread based on "Muzak". Back in the day, there used to be (expensive) systems to play anodyne music in stores and offices. They used record changers purpose-built to play 16 2/3 RPM long play records of bland instrumental music.

When FM broadcasting became commonplace, such music was transmitted on a "sub-carrier" piggybacked along with the FM signal that consumer radios could decode.

I expect that now, it is via subscription over the Internet.

Well, it wasn't crap, exactly. It was popular music, of an era likely to be familiar with the demographic that the business wanted to cultivate. But not too loud, or too well produced, to become an object of attention. Put people in their comfort zone, but don't capture their attention, at the expense of stealing their attention away from the goods on offer in the shop.

404 Fetterman is a jagoff. That it is close in PA is just sad. I get many don’t like OZ. But the guy is saying he is a conservative AND Trump loves him. It SHOULD be the ultimate get. A mainstream Repub with the Trump endorsement.

I spent quite a bit of time in PA before the 2016 election. Maybe some states had more Trump supporters by percentage, but the support in PA was just different. In other places they put up signs, in PA they made them out of wood and planned to keep them up for years.

Sure Philly is corrupt and likely swings tens of thousands of votes with corruption. But OZ should be leading and he should win. I am not predicting it, but that is what should happen.
