We expanded the exercise pen for the puppies, so they now have about 1000 square feet to run around in. We dumped a pile of timothy hay in the middle of it. It's puppy crack. We'd buy them a square hay bale so they can tear it apart and play queen of the mountain but it's still too warm and would get ants underneath.

106 I agree with the Trivium concept of education used for millennia to extremely fine effect.

The first part is learning facts: 2+2 is 4, bears are omnivores, rain falls from clouds, etc. Basic information. Who, What, Where, When.

The second part is learning logic, the WHY of how things happen. Learning how to take concepts and create a logical argument truth + truth = truth. You learn things like how to argue and how to understand reality.

The third part is applied truth, learning wisdom, or the HOW things happen. You take the two previous parts (facts and logic) and then learn to use them to do new things, create, philosophy, etc.

Teach your children like this and they are hand in hand with Archimedes, Augustine, Aquinas, Galileo, Francis Bacon, and Einstein.

Not just white. Martha's Vineyard is an interesting place. It has one of the oldest black resort communities in the country. The Vineyard is made up of 5 or 6 towns and one of them is Oak Bluffs. It has been a destination for wealthy blacks for many decades. They aren't going to be any more welcoming that rich, white liberals.

Part of it is. But part of it is Quint.

It's an island, they can't just bus in the help they have to live there too. And somebody has to do all the work. For years all the islands have been bringing in international kids to work a lot of the tourist jobs because the local kids either won't do them or there aren't enough of them. But in the winter those jobs don't exist.

My son has an eight or so year old buddy who has some pretty serious heart issues, and the little guy wears an Apple watch and I think carries a phone at all times. The watch and phone work together and will contact his pediatric cardiologist automatically when unusual stuff happens so the doctor can contact grown ups to get the kid to a hospital.

Definitely self serving. Saved some money on college classes.

Definitely don't trust the educational system, while each person is an individual so I really have nothing against anyone for being part of a specific generation.

I count myself quite lucky to have had a phenomenal history teacher in high school who was sane and conservative, but mostly didn't bring his personal politics into the lessons. He (and those fabulous boomer essay graders) saved me from being subjected to American history ala Zinn at college.

Look, Newport is not what it was when I went to OCS there in the early 80's, I get it. But the build up by the port with all the hideous block condos destroyed the views of a lot fo folks up on the hill, and Ellis' place ain't exactly the Marble House, can we admit that, okay? And Leno? Good luck in a town where he's going to get sucked into renovations downtown look to destroy any idea of "exclusivity" which is what he recently suggested was his whole reason for buying into the area.

I'm sure he's the salt of the earth...we get it. But Newport isn't the quaint sailboat "exclusive" town it once was and the presence of a "car" guy from Hollywood is proof of that. I lived there and been there many times, its not the same thing that Leno on others are trying to sell - its a high end West Side of Manhattan without the crime - yet...not some sailing venue that is listed on real sailors "to do" list like those on the Audi Tour or some such.

It's definitely not what it was in the 80s. 1980s or 1880s. 1680s for that matter. For better and worse.

Couldn't agree with you more about the build up in the port but let's not pretend the port was some Shangri La in the 1980s either. The city has gone through multiple iterations throughout it's history and it's gotten to crowded and touristy for me which is why I moved across the bay.

Ellison is dick with zero taste. He's also an ass who teased the city with bringing the America's Cup back to Newport and the blue balled us. Did I mention he's a classless dick?

But Leno seems like a decent person. Kind of silly to compare him to Ellison. Leno grew up in MA and so far seems ok here.

287 School, especially H.S., was pretty much "null" for me. Only formal activities I partook, were one mandatory pep rally (which I greatly resented), and Senior Prom.

Otherwise, I was off campus by 1pm daily, and off to work to earn the needful dollar, doing my part to keep the household afloat.

No time or money for this or that club, sports, social activities and etc. Hell, I signed up for the USAF on Delayed Enlistment in my Jr. year. Had to do my best to line up the ducks for making a living.

But if there's gonna be an AoS "Letter" jacket, I think we need to get Berserker to work the design.

Pelham is still there! And some of the old haunts outside of town by the beach area - its just the wharf area that has become a a complete zoo, and its sad because that was Newport when I was there...I used to walk those streets with my eyes closed - now it's crazy town down there.
