Revolting Nature Cafe

trainpinkflowers.jpg

European Starling uncannily mimicking a human voice, and then a non-human character from a famous movie.

This snake looks like a robot.

Cheetah running at full speed.

A cheetah (or a leopard) chases down a warthog, and then the warthog decides, Eff this, I'm going to chase you, you son of a bee.

I usually don't link animals killing other animals but I think it's okay if it's an alligator getting killed. (Right?) Here a jaguar goes into the water and just murks a (young) gator.

On the other hand, here's an alligator ripping apart a truck. (Or at least the wheelwell of a truck.)

Giving a sammich to a bear.

This video shows a tarantula shedding its skin. You might think that wouldn't be particularly gross and weird -- at least not much grosser and weirder than a tarantula normally is, just being itself -- but believe me, the tarantula finds a way to be grosser and weirder than usual. This is really a demonstration of the the old maxim of science, "Nature is fucking disgusting."

Speaking of: Big black eels swarming a beach are disgusting too.

More gross eels.

Demonstration of coagulating snake venom on the blood. I can see how this would be a problem.

I've linked a shorter clip of this before. But it's so crazy.

It's a marine iguana.

9 jaguar and gator: I've seen a video of that (maybe not the same one.) Fascinating to watch the big cat watching the river from a few feet above, suddenly dives in, comes out with a three foot long gator or something like it. No one who really knows about nature thinks that it's all pretty koala bears and lovely butterflies and happy hyenas and Jill Biden.

I might also still have one that shows Mickey going down on Minnie. Don't ask.

Posted by: mallfly the peach of Hoboken at September 12, 2022 07:46 PM (Ynyl9)

21 Cats are serious predators when they want to be. Unlike dogs (wolves, etc.), they don't generally hunt in packs -- occasionally you'll get a couple that cooperate like cheetahs -- so they have to be smart and ferocious. Even the kitty-cats, we've all seen that video of the pet cat that just wallops the dog threatening the cat's human. They have a special gear you do not want to trigger.

To be fair, though, that jaguar ain't taking on an adult gator. Hmmm, gator vs. elephant?

47 Willowed with extreme prejudice:

214 I encountered a new begging scam the other day. In a high-traffic area of a Walmart parking lot, a woman with a car full of kids was stalled out with her hood up. A man had already stopped to help, but I also stopped to see if there was anything I could do.

He was giving her a jump and I noticed that her battery looked brand new. She was weirdly delaying, fumbling around under the steering column when it was time to crank the car. It eventually started and the man offered to follow her to a parts store to get her alternator checked, then they drove off.

I came out of WallyWorld about 30 minutes later and there was her car in the same spot with her hood up again. It made me stop and think a bit. Her weird delaying was disconnecting and connecting under-dash wiring so the car would only crank when she wanted it to.

I'd bet a lot of people who stopped to help her gave her money. She did look really needy with all those kids.

It begins with never (or at least very rarely) disappointing Ace.

Next, you need to build your community here. To assist you with that, here is some (very brief) Purple Martin background:

East of the Rocky Mountains, Purple Martins nest almost exclusively in human-supplied housing. They are dependent on us for their survival. They are one of America's most well-loved songbirds for many reasons; their chattering song, aerial acrobatics, insect-eating habits and their tolerance of humans.

On a more spiritual level, from https://whatdreammeans.com: Martin: Spirit Animal, Totem, Symbolism and Meaning -- Dreaming of a single purple martin signifies your ability to widen your horizons. Meditation can help you see things in a new light. A martin flying over your head foreshadows restored serenity and surprising kindness from an unknown source in a dream. Hope that helps.

102 I used to go to Holland pretty frequently on business and I liked to stay at this little inn on a small inland island just south of Rotterdam. It was an island because it was completely surrounded by canals.

There was a small marina right behind the inn and the restaurant area had a big picture window that looked out over the marina and the canal. Most mornings a fishing boat would pull up to the dock and unload its catch, eels. Lots and lots of eels. Slippery, slimy canal eels.

158 The interesting thing with lefties and the press is that they conspire together to keep each other in the dark - the supreme court decisions confuse and upset them because they work together to be stupid about the realities of life.

Case in point, a close friend who reads the NYT religiously had no clue that DJT would win in 2016 and wandered around in a daze for weeks, his world torn apart.

He read from people who told him lies, and he believed them - and he still believes them to this day and always will - his wandering in darkness is not going to end any time soon.

Should Republicans still win first they must get rid of McConnell and McCarthy then they must punish all the real insurrectionists. Everyone who has participated in any activity against citizens must be fired first and then jail the leadership.

If nothing happens to the insurrectionists then they will do it bigger and worse later. Actions must have consequences.

What I think they will be most puzzled by is the altar we approached and used twice a day in the bathroom. We approach, make some hand signs in front of it, bring one hand to our mouths, keep it there for a time, bow to altar, take some water, bow to altar again.

They'll wonder - what the hell were these people doing?

That's because it is covered with thousands of golden lancehead vipers, one of the deadliest snakes in the Americas. And when I say covered estimates vary but some say that there is a snake ever square meter. Regardless, there is an assload of snakes there and nowhere to escape. You can't even climb a tree since the snakes do too as they have evolved to eat birds since that is about the only edible food left on the island.

It's actually illegal to land there cause snakes. And if you do you are going to die, just a matter of how long.
