International Bacon Day is an unofficial holiday that takes place on the first Saturday of September. But we think bacon deserves more — hence, InsideHook’s Bacon Week, a collection of stories old and new celebrating salt-cured pork (and in some cases, non-pork or even non-meat) in all its sizzling glory. Bacon is inarguably one of the most perfect foods on the planet. Salty, crisp and full of meaty umami flavors, bacon is a welcome food any time of day. There’s room for bacon-related debate, however, on the optimal cooking method. Most prefer to pan fry, others deep fry and a select few simmer before frying. While all fine methods, the perfect (and easiest!) way to cook bacon, scientifically, is to turn to the oven and bake. Before we get into the best way to cook bacon, let us explore some of the other methods of bacon cookery to learn which techniques sizzle and which fall flat. A strip of bacon is constructed out of two distinct sections, essentially the meat and the fat. These two parts cook at different rates, with the fat rendering out slower than the meat. This is extremely important to the balance of the optimally cooked strip of bacon; crisp yet tender, meaty with just enough fat to carry the flavor. This dichotomy makes cooking tricky, as the fat and the meat need to remain in harmony throughout the process.

A county official in New Mexico who was convicted of entering a restricted area during the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol must be immediately removed from office for his involvement in an insurrection, a judge decided Tuesday. District Court Judge Francis Mathew ruled that Couy Griffin, an Otero County commissioner, is now disqualified from holding public office because he violated Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment by participating in the Jan. 6 siege. "He took an oath to support the Constitution of the United States ... [and then] engaged in that insurrection after taking his oath," Judge Mathew wrote. The decision against Griffin, who made headlines earlier this year by refusing to certify his county's election results, comes after some similar, high-profile Fourteenth Amendment challenges to incumbent lawmakers across the country failed. Griffin told NPR that he was shocked by the ruling. He said the civil lawsuit that led to it was unfair and "purely political." He claims the plaintiffs in the case were from liberal counties in the state and were being supported by liberal groups. He also said he was a target because of his relationship with former President Donald Trump. "I don't think it's fair to accuse me of insurrection," he says. "I didn't have any intent of being a part of an insurrection or a violent mob. My intent of going to Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6 was because I had concerns that our elections had been compromised."

If it wasn't for attempted rape, Andy could only get some by marrying Kennedys, who are all-too-familiar with (and tolerant of) actual rape.

Embalmers Are Making Shocking Discoveries in the Blood of the Dead It sounds like a bad horror movie script from the 1960s, but it isn’t. The Epoch Times is reporting that embalmers from around the nation are speaking out about strange blood clots they have been finding in the bodies of the deceased since around 2020 or 2021.Those clots can't have been caused by the Kung Flu prick. We were told that the pricks were super safe and effective. (Cough, cough) It's from the internet, so it may not be true. 'My neighbour forcibly mows my lawn then demands payment - I don't know what to do'
The clots are said to be white, fibrous, and rubbery and can be the size of a grain of sand or as long as a human leg. They can be as thick as a pinky finger. One embalmer claimed they can be “nearly the strength of steel.” Embalmers across the nation are contending that these clots are not normal.
Some bodies have so many clots that the embalmers are forced to drain blood from several points instead of just one. The embalming process takes roughly two hours but can take four hours if the bodies have a lot of clotting. “Prior to 2020, 2021, we probably would see somewhere between 5 to 10 percent of the bodies that we would embalm having blood clots,” licensed embalmer Richard Hirschman told The Epoch Times. Today, Hirschman, who embalms in Alabama, claims that 50% to 70% of the bodies have clots.

A Christian teacher who refused to use a student’s preferred gender pronouns has been jailed in Ireland for contempt of court charges. Enoch Burke was a teacher at Wilson’s Hospital School in Westmeath until he refused to call a “transitioning” biological male transgender student “they” instead of “he.” The high school teacher was arrested and escorted by Gardaí Irish police to the High Court in Dublin on Monday. The arrest was ordered by Judge Miriam O’Regan last Friday when Mr. Burke failed to attend court following an alleged breach of an injunction against him. I find it hard to believe McConnell would not do everything in his power, including working with the junta to thwart Trump from running again.

Some of these things are not particularly well designed. There’s a grocery store near here that has an app for scanning things as you go and checking out quickly on a kiosk at the end. I love it. But it took a while to get used to the message at the end to make sure to take my receipt.
It’s the standard message all self checkout machines give at the end. But the scan as you go kiosk doesn’t give receipts. They left the standard goodbye message on it regardless. First couple of times I used it I stood around waiting for it to print one out.

There is not going to be anything resembling an energy market in Europe soon. There's going to be rationing in one form or another, and they're gonna (try) to bail out the energy companies.
Several countries have announced bailouts for energy companies. There would be a major financial collapse starting right now otherwise. I have no idea how long they can hold things together. The ECB will probably have to start printing money big time again.

I gave it the soapy water test, its good. The shutoff from the propane tank outside wasn't exactly good though. I kept smelling a minor trace of propane, and the old setup was a copper line to the old cooktop with no shutoff. I scrapped that whole wall oven/cook top thing and went with a dual fuel stove in the new kitchen, so I went with a normal black pipe setup with a shut off from the stove down to the basement and tied the copper line into it, so if they eventually get a natural gas line in the street I can tie right into what I already did with the black pipe . I had to work quick because I don't think the outside shutoff is working 100%. Its all good, no leaks.

This new gasket looks to be a winner. Very pliable material, and fits the lid like a hand in a glove. Comparing it the old one, the old one's wedge had flattened out. Let blow by get through.
The other new gasket I got, off Amazon was Chicom crap, I think. I can feel the difference in the material. I got this one off of Red Hill General Store, which is a pressure cooker emporium.
The Chicom one worked for a couple times, then started dripping, and did want to seal initially after that. Felt too loose.

Doesn't even have to go that deep. Look at the manufacturing process necessary to make solar panels and lithium batteries from the mining of the raw materials to the disposal of the used products.
Lithium strip mining makes oil exploration look like planting daisies, it is incredibly destructive to the environment. The manufacturing of solar panels creates highly toxic byproducts and if they burn in a fire they emit toxic fumes.
And then what do you do with millions, soon to be billions of used batteries and solar panels that are loaded with toxic chemicals? Can't put them in a standard landfill. Similar if less dangerous than nuclear waste.
There are no free lunches. The creation of energy has consequences. All we are doing is choosing which ones and we are being lied to about "clean energy" alternatives.

It's a layering out of the protein, usually under the red cell mass. The mode of death is usually not acute, but slow: heart failure, sepsis, dehydration. The idea is that the movement of the blood becomes still or very slow, and there is a dependant activation of the fibrin coagulation cascade by the underlying lining of the vessel, which causes polymerization of the fibrin protein excluding the red cells.
You see it in Covid, just like you see it in chronic heart failure or influenza, but not in (say) death due to a sudden heart attack or a massive gunshot wound. I can't say why these people are seeing it more often than they used to. Its possible that they actually are, or that its a form of cognitive bias (recall/confirmation maybe, I don't know: we're all susceptible to that). But the clots themselves that I have seen illustrated are not at all specific to Covid or vaccination thereby.

Its speculative that they are different. That's the point. They are different from some post mortem clots, for sure, but not others. I have yet to see a demonstration that post covid clotting is amyloid.
Particularly in agonal low flow situations, you get very tenacious clots that can be quite rubbery. they probably reflect the mode/pace of the terminal antemortem decompensation but not specifically the cause.

About the only process we have that actually "creates" energy is nuclear fission. Energy is "created" by destroying matter. All other generation is simply harvesting energy that already exists, or has been captured by biological processes over eons of time.

Put up enough solar panels, you will change the albedo of the Earth, and it will absorb more Solar heat. Solar panels don't make much (if any) use of the IR part of the solar spectrum. That energy gets wasted as heat.

Not to mention that electrolyzing water is a very inefficient way to make bulk hydrogen. Fine if you want super high-purity hydrogen for a chemical reagent. Shitty for fuel. Methane reforming for the win, in that case. But hydrogen is a shitty fuel, anyway. Takes a lot of energy to make it, and it is very bulky, and doesn't have much energy content by volume.
