The Solomon Islands Refuses a Visit By US Coast Guard Ships -- Indicating That China Is Now Top Dog in the Pacific, As Far As They're Concerned

Who lost the Solomon Islands?

If so, why are the Solomon Islands now telling us they're closed for business with US ships?

The Solomon Islands has suspended visits by U.S. and other foreign military vessels, American officials said Tuesday, raising concerns in Washington that the Pacific nation is turning away from engagement with the United States in favor of working with China.

Um, yeah, like the "concerns" that we're heading into a recession.

This is not a concern, this is concrete reality.

The Solomon Islands gave notice of the decision after a U.S. Coast Guard ship and a British Royal Naval ship failed to get timely approvals last week to make routine stops in a port.

The Solomon Islands government formally notified the United States on Monday that it had placed a moratorium on all foreign military ship visits pending a review of protocols and procedures, Vedant Patel, a deputy spokesman for the State Department, said Tuesday.

The move appeared to be a rebuke of the United States, which has sent top officials to the Solomon Islands in recent months to strengthen relations.

Mr. Patel said he did not have information on whether China had suggested the suspension or if the Chinese navy had recently visited the country.

Documents leaked in March revealed that the administration of Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare and Chinese officials had signed a secret security agreement that would allow the Solomon Islands to call on China to send military and security forces to the country if needed....

Some analysts said the agreement could open the way for Chinese troops and naval ships to establish a presence in the Solomon Islands, which played a pivotal role in World War II.

Hey NeverTrump, isn't your ghastly decrepit mummy-puppet supposed to be Restoring America's Place in the world? Isn't Joe Biden a "centrist, moderate Democrat" who knows the importance of the projection of military power, like you ridiculous preening softcocks are all about?

And wasn't Joe Biden supposed to get 10% of the money from a deal involving a top Chinese communist spymaster, involving a Chinese communist party front company?

No calls for a special prosecutor for that, huh, NeverTrump?

Corrected: I didn't read carefully enough -- it was a Coast Guard ship that was rebuffed, not a Navy ship. Thanks to Cheri for the correction.

47 How do you talk to someone who is wholly ignorant of your opinion and worldview?

Its a challenge. Worldviews are based on presuppositions -- basic, unquestioned foundational ideas and principles. Most people are unaware they even HAVE presuppositions about life, let alone what they are. For the left, these are so bizarre, out of touch with reality, and insane that it makes them nearly impossible to talk with.

This is, as annoying as I find them, guys like Shapiro and Crowder are: they reach behind the presuppositions and tear them apart, forcing students to rethink and face reality if only for a moment.

The goal of preserving the post-Cold-War order is not to maintain stability, the goal is to maintain a stable base to rake the graft off. All machinations has been to maintain the graft, and keep the sort of people who won't report it in power.

51 Also, this. Willowed from previous thread, but China, so not all that far off target:

Take a very close look at that Tsingtao bottle. Odds are, you'll find that it's brewed by Molson's of Canada. About 99.9% of all Tsingtao available on these shores is a Molson's product.

If you've got genuine Chinese Tsingtao, someone hand-carried it over, or secreted a few cases into a shipping container or such. And it was likely stored incorrectly, arriving all sour n' skunky. Twenty years ago, Tsingtao was delicious. Now it's Canuk swill.

Sadly, this is exactly the same for Kirin and Sapporo of Japan. I think Japanese Sapporo is one of the best lager beers EVER. Can't get it here though, it's all Molson's of Canada. I haven't looked closely at a bottle of Asahi, but whaddya think the odds, huh?

88 I believe the Bank of Australia is run by the Australian Reserve Bank, so this is probably run from the government, and will trickle down.

The problem with a central bank is that it is inherently political, and is regularly used as a way to force compliance.

1.) The US is incapable of moderating China's influence, militarily or otherwise. All we can do is fight economic holding actions. Any President would be in a tough spot here. China doesn't fear us.

2.) The US government is owned by China. For all the talk about Chinese colonization of Africa, their control in this country is stronger. Our own JCoS chairman brags in books about how he works for them.

160 "Restore our standing in the world" was only ever mental mindfuck persuasion bullshit.

Along with believing only the *opposite* of everything they say, the other useful thing is to look at any assumption which underpins their bs taglines. That's always an egregious built-in lie. Like "no one is above the law" builds in the assumption that Trump or whoever is guilty of something.

And the assumption here is that Trump had "degraded our world standing". It's far more powerful persuasion-wise to "talk past the sale" than to simply say that statement, because in that case the statement could be shot down.

Hey China, would you mind sending all our manufacturing equipment back? And also, would you mind training all our gender studies majors how to operate them? And maybe get our poor and drug addicted youth and minorities to chip in? And also, we seem to have a lot of lawyers and "influencers" and other useless professions, so maybe you can train them as engineers and scientists and make they useful.

Then we can do without all that imported product. Thanks!

311 ACE this actually worse with USCG Cutter turn-away. For years, USCG has been able to enter ports that were shy to host USN ships. Although a military service, the size and composition of missions very closely matches the many smaller nations navies.
