Hyperpartisan Democrat Operator and FBI Agent Bizarrely Assigned to Both Crossfire Hurricane and Then the Hunter Biden Laptop Coverup Either "Fired" or "Forced Out"

Ben Whedon of JustTheNews reported yesterday that Timothy Thibault was seen being "escorted out" of the FBI building, surrounded by "two or three 'Headquarters-looking" people.

Apparently he was either fired or he "resigned," after being told he'd be fired if he didn't "resign."

Note that this guy was already under investigation by the Inspector General for his partisan and dishonest handling of the earlier Trump investigation, Crossfire Hurricane. And yet Chris Wray -- the straight-shooter lawman -- assigned him to "investigate" the Hunter Biden laptop anyway.

He's only being fired now, finally, because whistleblowers came forward to Charles Grassley to damn him, and to make Christopher Wray's efforts to cover this all up untenable.

Kerry Picket and Jeff Mordock:

It is unclear if Mr. Thibault, a 25-year FBI veteran who was on leave for at least a month following revelations about political statements he made while leading the public corruption unit, left on his own accord or was forced out.

The FBI declined to comment. Attempts to contact Mr. Thibault were unsuccessful.
Republican lawmakers have been scrutinizing Mr. Thibault for making anti-Trump statements in social media posts in 2020. At the time, he was helping lead the FBI's probe of Hunter Biden, whose father, President Biden, was running for the White House.

In February and September of 2020, Mr. Thibault liked separate Washington Post opinion pieces critical of Attorney General William Barr for not more aggressively prosecuting Mr. Trump's political allies and close associates.

Mr. Thibault also retweeted a post by the Republican anti-Trump group Lincoln Project that called Mr. Trump "a psychologically broken, embittered and deeply unhappy man."

During recent testimony before the Senate, FBI Director Christopher A. Wray dodged questions about Mr. Thibault and his social media posts. He called it "ongoing personnel matters."

Mr. Thibault, according to the former official, was also known for pushing out unvaccinated agents from the FBI's election squad that he suspected to be Trump supporters.

One of the former officials, who is also a whistleblower talking to the House Judiciary Committee, was placed on indefinite suspension last year by the bureau because he attended the "Stop the Steal" rally in Washington on Jan. 6, 2021, that preceded a pro-Trump mob storming of the Capitol. The former officials said he never entered the Capitol.

After resigning late last year, he claimed other FBI officials were "purged" for attending the rally on their own time and not on official FBI business.

Apparently you get purged for being a Republican -- but you get promoted to Special Agent in Charge of highly political matters your job if you're a highly partisan Democrat.

At least, until the heat gets too hot.

The FBI is claiming he wasn't fired, and he was at retirement age anyway, so he just retired.

I hate the FBI's fucking guts. I will never deliver a guilty verdict in any case in which there is any FBI involvement, ever.

Might as well defund and disband them -- they are unfit for intended use and will start losing more cases than they "make."

Timothy Thibault, a top-level FBI agent who had been under fire for his role in investigations regarding President Biden's son, Hunter Biden, resigned late last week and was walked out of the FBI, two U.S. officials confirmed. But these officials also said that Thibault had reached retirement age, and they added that all of those who retire hand over their badge and gun and are escorted out of the building.

Thibault, who worked in the FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C., had recently been removed from his position as assistant special agent in charge at the FBI's Washington Field Office, which covers all of the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia.

...

Grassley said in late July that "highly credible" whistleblowers had approached a senior Senate Republican and alleged a widespread effort within the FBI to downplay or discredit negative information about Hunter Biden. He cited a 2020 FBI intelligence assessment that was "used by an FBI headquarters team to improperly discredit negative Hunter Biden information as disinformation." He continued, "Based on allegations, verified and verifiable derogatory information on Hunter Biden was falsely labeled as disinformation."

In October 2020, one month before the election, "an avenue of derogatory Hunter Biden reporting was ordered closed" by a senior FBI agent at the bureau's Washington Field Office. An earlier letter from Grassley identified the agent as Thibault.

"[T]he allegations provided to my office appear to indicate that there was a scheme in place among certain FBI officials to undermine derogatory information connected to Hunter Biden by falsely suggesting it was disinformation," Grassley claimed.

In addition to concerns about the handling of investigation into Hunter Biden, Grassley accused Thibault of likely violations of "[f]ederal laws, regulations and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) guidelines" in a May 31 letter.

From a few days ago: Ben Whedon reported that FBI agents were warned not to even open Hunter Biden's laptop.

FBI whistleblowers allege that the Bureau's leaders ordered agents not to investigate Hunter Biden's laptop, according to a letter Wisconsin Republican Sen. Ron Johnson sent to Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz asking that he investigate the matter.

Prior to the 2020 presidential election, some of the content of a laptop belonging to President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, became public and appeared to show damaging information on the then-presidential candidate. Media outlets derided the laptop as misinformation or Russian disinformation at the time.

"After the FBI obtained the Hunter Biden laptop from the Wilmington, Del. computer shop, these whistleblowers stated that local FBI leadership told employees, 'you will not look at that Hunter Biden laptop' and that the FBI is 'not going to change the outcome of the election again,"' the letter, which the Daily Mail obtained, reads.

"I hope you understand that the longer your office stands on the sidelines and delays investigating the FBI's actions, the harder it will be for you to uncover the truth and hold individuals accountable for wrongdoing," Johnson continued.

I wonder if this was Thibault again.

Or: Was it someone higher-ranking? Was it Wray himself?

Via Legal Insurrection, Grassley seemed to finger Thibault in shutting down any investigation:

Third, in October 2020, an avenue of additional derogatory Hunter Biden reporting was ordered closed at the discretion of ASAC [Timothy] Thibault. My office has been made aware that FBI agents responsible for this information were interviewed by the FBI HQ team in furtherance of Auten's assessment. It's been alleged that the FBI HQ team suggested to the FBI agents that the information was at risk of disinformation; however, according to allegations, all of the reporting was either verified or verifiable via criminal search warrants. In addition, ASAC Thibault allegedly ordered the matter closed without providing a valid reason as required by FBI guidelines. Despite the matter being closed in such a way that the investigative avenue might be opened later, it's alleged that FBI officials, including ASAC Thibault, subsequently attempted to improperly mark the matter in FBI systems so that it could not be opened in the future.

Look, the problem is dealt with. The bad operator has been identified thanks to robust internal controls and his position is no longer active or relevant. The system has worked and partisan actors have been identified and removed from operations. Specific involvement of this individual with various investigative activities is an internal matter for the Department of Justice and the Department will engage in public speculation or endanger critical operations and investigations, both internal and external.

There is no need to relitigate the past or engage in uniformed speculation. DoJ's internal processes and controls continue to safeguard the American people and uphold the rule of law throughout the Department and for the public at large.

"Based on a review of open-source content, ASAC Thibault has demonstrated a pattern of active public partisanship, such as using his official title for public partisan posts relating to his superiors and matters under the FBI’s purview, that is likely a violation of his ethical obligations as an FBI employee,” Grassley said. “Accordingly, his actions present a grave risk of political infection and bias in his official decision-making process, creating serious questions with respect to oversight of investigative matters under his purview.”

Grassley added, “ASAC Thibault’s social media postings, comments, and ‘likes’ … demonstrate a pattern of improper commentary related to, for example, ongoing FBI investigations including those under his purview.”

Where are you getting your numbers? I know what a retired 5-10 makes. Guess how.

I hate this guy as much as anyone, but let's not make stuff up.

He would make 1.1% * top 3 years salary * years worked. His top salary would be about $176k (a bit more if he's SES). Thus, his pension would be about $49k / year. His thrift plan and Social Security would be on top of that. SS will be on the order of $36-40k. His thrift plan will depend on how much money he put in, and how he invested it.

14. The number I have seen thrown around about the FBI whistle-blowers that reported to Johnson is 14.

There are 35,000 total employees at the FBI. About 13,000 of them are special agents. So those 14 whistle-blowers represent 0.04% of the total population and 0.11% of the special agent population.

Rounding error, and certainly not enough to justify *not* ending the FBI.

I don't. I think it is possible that *they* think so, though. The FBI (and by extension the DoJ) first denied the Clinton story, then suppressed it, then "investigated" it, then exonerated her. And when you commit a crime under color of law, your incentive to commit more--and bigger--crimes to cover it up increases exponentially.

Again, I think there's an element of theater to this story of being "walked out." Why not resign as there are many career options available to him & he can make more $ outside of a federal agency? It might be setup to appear that the Republicans won a small victory by removing a civil servant/law enforcement officer over Hunt's laptop because they've got nothing else. Remember, these people are never not playing psychological games with the public.

Further, this is a rather interesting (press-wise) distraction from the "Trump Mar-A-Lago" affidavit which is a very strange* thing, indeed. (*MO, not a lawyer.)

Now he says it is crazy to think the Biden Regime will investigate or prosecute its own ... but a future president might. (I don't think he thought the house or senate would do much). So a few whistle blowers that might "have the receipts" (as Bannon says) might cause some division.

Smith also said it is the same group doing the worst corrupt actions ... and that all the new hires in the last few years are the worst kind of people.

382 I stand corrected. When one speaks of oversight it is short for Oversight Committee which does have authority to refer investigations to the DOJ but not to prosecute, as I read it.

In the past the were able to jail those who were in contempt or deceitful but the reading is unclear whether they are able to do that today.

It is puzzling, however, that Democrat committees are able to punish and penalize opponents and Republicans not.

447 Short answer: Chuy is Capital-A Ace's new persona.

Long answer: Una parola de Ace "Chuy:"
Hace a week ago, I realized that anyone could grift their way in Democrat politics fundraising money every dos anos for one failed election bid after another, como Robert Francis "Beto" O'Rourke.
Todo that is required is to give yourself a fake Hispanic nickname so that people wrongly believe you're Hispanic when they see your name in the voting booth.
Cuanto you are asked porque you call yourself "Beto," you just lie and say "Aye, Dios mio, there were some jovenes who used to call me 'Beto' because they liked my sick skateboarder moves and they considered me an honorary Hispanic who would one day make a bueno Gobernador de Tejas. Their abuelas all told me so and said I was como un John F. Kennedy mexicano and that I should take away all the negras pistolas malas.
If I just promise to take away todas las negras pistolas malas, las medias will cover up and lie for me and never point out that I am almost as white as Anderson Cooper's prom dress.
Por esta razon, yo soy ora "Chuy!" Soy your next Democratic Gobernador de Tejas. En serio!
Dame todos tus dineros, por favor.

Well, he has to be charged with something first. Who will it be- FBI or DOJ? Neither.

A plastic band wrist watch with agency logo on on its face; the 25 year service pin, and he'll keep his engraved desk/cubicle nameplate. Aside from that, whatever monetary rewards he received during the FY, in addition to regular pay, for outstanding work products.

Rewards are often the potential for future employment or having one's own business.

461 They really have nothing but contempt for us to pretend they didn't all know what was on that laptop. They can harass Joe Citizen for an anti-deep state comment in bumfuck MI, but can't be bothered to look into child porn and rampant influence peddling by a politician? Yeah, right! And what is more, I am sure it has been an open secret since at least the Obama days that the Biden's are as dirty as they come. They ALL knew.

My guess is that the plan has been to only look into all of this after the midterms so they can get a better candidate next time around. They will make a big show of admitting some flunky gummed up the works and then admit just enough to get Biden out while covering for the worst of it.

Posted by: Thatch at August 30, 2022 12:15 PM (FmT1z)

462 Note that this guy was already under investigation by the Inspector General for his partisan and dishonest handling of the earlier Trump investigation, Crossfire Hurricane. And yet Chris Wray -- the straight-shooter lawman -- assigned him to "investigate" the Hunter Biden laptop anyway.

"You're going down already, Thibault. Do this one last thing for us, and we'll make sure you're taken care of. You ever write a book before? No? Well, you won't be able to say that next year. And we'll see to it your GFM is *tight,* bruh. Welcome to the Goodie Room."

464 I gotta laugh at all this "defund" bullshit. No House or Senate is EVER gonna have the bozack to defund or even reduce the funding of the FBI. If anything, they will increase it. No sniveling political hack is ever gonna risk defunding and then have every conceivable murder or injury blamed on him or her. "OMG OMG OMG! If it wasn't for Joe Cunting's vote to defund the FBI, that poor old lady who got stabbed in the projects by Big Leroy would still be alive!"
Posted by: Elric Blade at August 30, 2022 11:26 AM (iFTx/)

And if some member of congress even floated the idea, does anyone think the FBI wouldn't quietly "discourage" the member from continuing? Given all the revelations about the FBI from 2016 onward, is it more or less likely they would engage in the Hoover tactic of letting that member know they have certain "information" on them?

Just stay within the scope of employment.

472 Maybe if pieces of complete RINO shit like Grassley, Graham and Barr weren't pathologically incapable of doing anything other than bullshit about the fabled 'good men and women of the FBI' they would have actually done a single fucking thing to investigate this when it happened.

NONE OF THIS is new news. We knew TWO YEARS AGO that the FBI had the laptop since 2019 because the guy that fucking turned it over to them TOLD US, and showed the receipts that he had turned it over.

And yet STILL Graham and Barr both sat on their fat RINO asses doing absolutely nothing about it.
