36 One day growing up a friend of mine and I were standing looking down to a creek bed, with some tall trees by it. There was a 10-15 foot drop to the bank and one tree had a straight branch sticking tantalizingly close to us atop the bank. There were no leaves on this branch, hadn't for years

My friend determined to jump out and grab the branch, and before I could say much did it.

The branch was rotten, broke and he fell down and landed right on his back below. The branch came down and smacked him right in the face.

Had to help him get home with a bloody nose and lip but otherwise no harm done.

37 Nice wave. Been in the water more lately, but really need to ramp it up. And spend some time in places where the water is really warm.

A biologist on the boat where we swam with dusky dolphins off Kaikoura, NZ said that most scientists believed the frolicking and gymnastics of porpoises and dolphins was believed to be just for fun - no mundane purpose to it.

She also said they had sex umpteen times per day, something like that. Funny Brit in the group did a perfect dead-pan: "I want to come back as a dusky dolphin!".

62 Starbucks is going "cashless."

https://bit.ly/3e9t3RH

Allow me to let my Alex Jones freak flag fly. Companies are being pressured to stop accepting cash by government entities. They're doing this because credit cards and other digital trail transactions are much more easily traceable. They want total information awareness.

Add in the pattern Obama started "Operation Choke Point" which pressured banks to stop doing business with firearm dealers, payday lenders, and other companies they didn't like.

Add the two together and imagine the government doing the same to regular old individuals. Not business owners, just random citizens. Businesses no longer accept cash, and some bureaucrat just decided you are a wrecker. Your bank stops doing business with you. You can't pay cash for anything.

You're. Fucked. What are you going to do? Barter with neighbors for goods and services? That may work for food, but what about transportation? What about your house payment? How do you cash your checks for your job? How do you order one off household items or tech items? How are you getting clothes for your kid?

||A top FBI agent at the Washington field office reportedly resigned from his post last week after facing intense scrutiny over allegations he helped shield Hunter Biden from criminal investigations into his laptop and business dealings.

Timothy Thibault, an FBI assistant special agent in charge, was allegedly forced out after he was accused of political bias in his handling of probes involving President Biden’s son, sources told the Washington Times on Monday.

The agent was escorted out of the field office by at least two “headquarters-looking types” last Friday, the sources said.

Thibault and the FBI didn’t immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment on Monday.||

When Heinlein visited Moscow he mentioned that he had done a count of the ships on the river, and came to the conclusion that the shipping was not sufficient to keep the population that the authorities claimed alive. He thought the authorities were lying about the population.

Apparently a lot of the food and goods were being brought in privately, pretty much smuggled.
That is the genesis of the joke, what is long green and smells like sausage - the answer was the Moscow commuter trains. Everybody went to country to get black market food.

This was one of the most stressful parts of buying the house for me (aside from the actual move). About a week before closing, our closing company gave us the amount we were going to need to bring, but said to hold off getting the money, because the total may come down. So we waited. Two days before closing, I called them up, but they still didn't have the amount finalized. I asked if I should just get it for the amount it is now, and if it's less, great.

No, they said, just wait. So we waited, and on the day before closing, almost didn't make the bank's cut off for the transfer, because they told us at the last minute. And then they called us the next day (closing) that the transfer hadn't arrived yet. An hour after that, "Oh, it's here now. Nevermind."

281 I haven't wondered how they get there, but a baby sloth is one of the cutest things I've ever seen.

I also recently learned that the sloth's internal organs are in different places than other mammals because of how gravity plays such a different role in its upside-down life.

288 Sales are booming in Russia’s export market, the world’s largest in crude and refined fuels. And new trade arrangements have given Mr. Putin cover to use natural-gas exports as an economic weapon against Ukraine’s European allies. Before the war, Russia supplied Europe with 40% of its gas. It has since throttled flows through the Nord Stream pipeline to Germany and other conduits, driving prices higher and putting pressure on European households and businesses.

291 Just in case anyone is keeping up at home:

" Joe Biden’s fake victory was declared by a margin of 11,778 votes in Georgia... They found that the vote totals in Fulton County that resulted on November 8, 2020, do not match the vote totals found in the recount that happened on December 3, 2020.

When the totals didn’t match, the recount was off by around 17,000 votes. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger told the county to reconcile the data, and they then found the missing 17,000 votes a few hours later. However, what Moncla and Rossi have uncovered is that there is no paper trail, and no ballot images exist for those 17,000 votes. "

292 Watching the Thin Man as well. Love the whole series. As for watching Tucker - it's hard, often depressing. But he gets most of it right, and we need the information, and we need to toughen up. These aren't the end times, but we are in the middle of an epochal change driven by corruption and criminality. Wish I had a Jordan Peterson quote to close with...maybe being truly good requires the ability to be dangerous.

I've been on both sides of this one. The reality is that many corpo jobs aren't actually expected to be filled. Yeah, sure, they interview relentlessly, but the interviewee is never the perfect purple squirrel that has EXACTLY the ideal skill set and experience. Even a 98% match who's ready to do the work right now gets "ehhh, he's okay but surely there's better candidates out there" in the groupthink session following the interview.

Also keep in mind that a rigorous interview cadence of candidates that didn't quite make it means that HR robots get ammunition to justify their own continued existence.

Even more funny. I was re-hired at the same company as before. Good people. Never blamed them before, would not blame them this time. But. I am getting the same sinking feeling, like I'll be working at the Garden Center at Walmart or some place like that in the not too distant future.
