When case rates throughout the pandemic are plotted on a graph, the trajectory in states with mask mandates is virtually identical to the trajectory in states without mandates. (The states without mandates actually had slightly fewer Covid deaths per capita.) International comparisons yield similar results. Maddow followed up by asking if Fauci has "any insight into what we ought to do as a country to deal with" the threats Fauci has gotten. She then proceeded to slime conservatives by claiming they think "anybody citing science or facts or objective reality or nuance is, by definition, the enemy."
Fauci ended the segment by throwing a temper tantrum that people "could look at January 6 on TV, and you have some people who actually don't believe it happened. How could that possibly be?" Fauci kvetched, adding that "it's now spilling over in denial about public health principles."
Maddow ended the interview by thanking Fauci "for a lifetime, so far of service."

YouTube, like the New York Times in May, has acknowledged the data shows that mask-wearing and mask mandates had no statistical impact on stopping the spread of COVID. Similarly, a study found no substantial difference between COVID rates between schools with and without mask mandates. All those months children had to wear dirty rags on their faces were a waste. Still, putting #MaskUp made you one of the cool ones online. YouTube has yet to address the change or whether it would allow those banned for telling the truth about masks back on the platform.

Xi's "Dynamic Zero" COVID policy involves brutally-enforced lockdowns that go on for weeks or months at a time (though they don't call them "lockdowns" anymore because it has bad connotations). It varied a lot depending on where you were. Some stuff like school closures apply if those rules are in place, but mask mandates and shit worked as well as people were willing to let them work. In some places, they did it and kept doing it. In other places, people ignored it.

It has been known for 100 years that masks don't work, they don't even work in a surgical setting, and some study in the 80's demonstrated. Masks do not protect against respiratory viruses. They are worthless.
Previous to this madness, it was considered "settled science" that lockdowns and mass quarantines were counterproductive. That is, would do more harm than good.

I watched it play out in real life. My brother and I were headed home after visiting a friend's house. I was feeling ill and not watching anything while my brother was driving and while crossing an intersection, we got T-Boned. The driver blasted out of the other car like he was shot out of a cannon and ran, a bike cop was nearby and tried to chase him down. After a couple minutes he came back "couldn't catch him".
They all were hispanic persuasion, I'm guessing the three dudes were illegals or at least one of them was on parole and just bailed. They tried the old "move over and pretend you were driving" bit too.

That's pretty much all it is, and if that is really all that effective, I don't know. Karl Denninger has written several rants about this with links to some of those studies and papers. It's basically "sterile theater". Make it look sterile for psychological effect.
There are all sorts of things that are far more effective in reducing post-operative infections.
When I had my last knee surgery, they had adopted many new things since the last time I went under the knife. UV sterilizing robots that irradiate everything. They had me use some body wash gel every shower for a couple days before. Then, for a couple days before, apply some anti-bacterial gel stuff up my nose.

If we had allowed people to do this from the get-go, far fewer people would have died of covid. Think of the mandates to force infected elderly into nursing homes.
