Kite string is not going to carry lightening. More likely it picked up a static charge. Static charges have killed people, but it's a lot less likely than getting hit by lightening.

I think using multiple independent clauses is a sign someone is writing to a more literate audience, rather than going for a mass audience. I want to say most popular books are written to an 8th grade level for broader appeal. But, grain of salt and all that.

I have read, somewhere, that his son, William, was present at the experiment.

William is the (illegitimate) son who became the Royalist governor of New Jersey and thus was in opposition to Daddy during the American Revolution.

Although often depicted as a young child when he assisted his father in the famed kite experiment of 1752, Franklin was at least 21 years old at the time.

Polling is mostly done so that news media have a talking point. Even the vaunted RCP polling average does not work if some of the polls are crap. Realistically, for a metaanalysis, you would need a lot more polling samples at the same time than what they have.

Watch for the change in polling screens from adult voters, to registered voters, to likely voters to happen soon as voting registration deadlines pass (about 30-60 days before an election for most states).

Some of the aspects Tucker mentioned last night are ignored at our peril. The Democrats are clearly out fundraising Republicans and a lot of that is small donations. Again, that doesn't equate with popularity and with all other factors considered (the economy, crime, etc.) but its is worth a pause. The fact that people like McConnell and his coterie of Vichy Republicans are clearly working against the electorate and their primary choices presages at a minimum, subversion, at a maximum, a surrender. The senate fund (see above on our lack of funding) is important, and McConnell has weaponized that against candidates who will give us a majority. It also appears the GOP is once again totally unprepared for the shenanigans about to come. I think the story may change once people come back in September, but this isn't going to be the cake walk (nor should the GOP continue to treat it as one).

Mostly agree, and think (as usual) it's false data to try and push news stories to possibly affect fundraising and turnout later. Most polls will try to reflect reality as they get closer to election time, which will show a Republican surge.

The DU folks are basing their hopes on some polls that have historically done the same thing every August. This isn't new, so no idea why they would think the outcome will be different this time.

But I am also looking at primary turnout, which is more predictive than polling.

I think that if the sentence is making a logical progression, then it works...sometimes quite well. It keeps the points flowing, when a period would stop it abruptly.

Never heard that, but given that Ben blew-up his relationship with his loyalist son William -- the last colonial Governor of New Jersey -- over the Revolution, I find it hard to believe.

The only possible rationales I can imagine if true is he was providing disinformation -- or possibly doing so in exchange for something of longer-term value calculated to benefit his American compatriots.

My problem when I see it in my own writing is that, I think, it ends up being repetitive. Not the points, but the construction. It's always, "clause, but clause, but clause."

I've avoided the semicolon my whole writing life. I need to really figure it out and utilize it so the above becomes, "clause; clause, but clause."

Trolling. One of Franklin's office help in France was a British agent and he passed information on to London. Franklin appeared very careless in informational security in Paris BUT in a larger sense, Franklin did not keep tight security because he wanted the British to be anxious and fretful about the French. Shipping information during the age of sail was simply not that useful because the information went stale before you could use it due to lags in information gathering, distribution, and processing.

Much of the accusations against Franklin for all sorts of misdeeds comes from a half deranged Arthur Lee who sent back all sorts of tales about Franklin and his fellow commissioner Deane.

From McConnell's standpoint, he'd rather have a minority Senate that keeps him as the Minority Leader than a majority Senate that does not. Adams has a widely disseminated quote about virtue and constitutions. He changed his views after his experiences post Revolution and in office. One of the more disappointing historical stories is how the American citizenry behaved after 1776 and even more so post 1783. Human nature reasserted itself.

McCarthy would like to lose some seats, like MI-03 and WA-03, but despite his best efforts he probably can't lose them. The voters are too energized against the establishment to make fundraising the definitive issue that it usually is.

There are only 4-5 seats that are actually in play; GA, AZ, NV, PA, and maybe NH. In the first four of those the Senate campaigns are driving themselves without help needed from the national GOP.

Now McCarthy has purposely lost a couple seats, like CA-13. But where the MAGA candidates won the primary, his ability to sabatoge is limited.

Also note how quickly Lake was on top of any possible election fraud. The campaigns themselves are not asleep.

Any time magical traditions had a subset of practical applications it eventually got more rigorously examined and refined.

It is one of those ironies that scientists have traditionally been wildly speculative and overly certain in their own theories, rather than skeptical. The entity that demanded they show their work and more conclusive evidence was the Church.

In a winner-take-all system like we have, rather than a Parliamentary system, third parties don't stand a chance. This is why any rumors of Trump starting a third party were always going nowhere. Trump is doing the harder work of changing the GOP from the grassroots up. I see it on the ground in CT, where the people who are getting involved (like me) have no use for the current infrastructure, and plan to get rid of all the dead weight in there now. It's a knife-fight right now between the GOP establishment and the base. The GOPes really wanted Themis Klarides to run against Blumenthal. The base would rather lose with Levy than win with Klarides. In this cycle, however, we just might win with Levy in CT, for instance.

To be honest, the hard part about doing this is that the people in the Establishment, are, by and large, very nice folks. From an internet level it looks like they're all Snidely Whiplash types, but up close they're very ordinary. Some of the RINOs are in fact very savvy about how politics works, and I think they're now more jaded than venal.

386 It may be true the Republicans, at least some of them have noticed the cheating signs and are making an effort to overcome it. It may also be true that the Democrats, at least most of them are also making an effort to steal elections they are at risk of losing by normal means.

I personally don't think the GOP has learned enough to see the signs of fraud, act quickly on those signs and ultimately prevail. I do see signs that the left has learned how to cheat with greater success and has pulled more of the legal players into their corner.

I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised to see a significant number of races that were more or less "red" to flip "blue" and reduce the Republican pick ups to an meaningless number.

It's a far more appropriate used of models than AGW. In reality AGW can't be modeled, especially on the long time frames they claim, there are too many variables. Virus propagation in a population is a good candidate for modeling, but garbage in = garbage out always applies.

The cheat machine doesn't work that well outside of urban areas which is why increasingly GOP is dominating state and local races outside of those areas. Makes it hard to jigger House races because there simply is not enough information and there is not the insulation that Soros type prosecutors give in urban districts.

Identifying the ballot mules via GPS locating is also a key way to stop the cheat. The sort of people doing this actually can be identified and given a polite warning that the next time it would cost them.

She has burns on her upper and lower left arm, her right side and a large burn on her left hip. She said she is doing well cognitively, but she is having flashbacks in her sleep in which she sees a large flash of light and wakes up with the feeling her heart is blown out of her chest. She said she is trying to deal with knowing the other people died, said she thinks of them every day. The fact she is alive is amazing.

BTW, the GOP is well aware of how the Dems cheat and has been for years. In 2020, they cooperated with the Dems to facilitate the cheat to get rid of Trump which is what GOPe and GOP leaders in the Senate and House wanted. It is very likely that the GOP itself has been involved in cheating and rigging races in primaries from time to time primarily by allowing and perhaps even paying Dems to vote in GOP open primaries but also some ballot box stuffing by voting in the name of infrequent or moved voters.

Many of the campaigns are underfunded and therefore not able to completely cover things the way they should. The national GOP money would help that, especially in the senate races. McConnell is playing a dangerous game to the detriment of party voters. It's a good thing we continue to have enthusiasm and a Democrat Party determined to curb stomp the people. Because that is the primary thing driving the electorate right now. The GOP should be all in on GOTV which they typically suck at. Because right now they are counting on people voting against the other guy, rather then for something. That's another dangerous game to play and November is a long way away politically. Again, we'll have a better picture in September. But the complacency tells me the GOP has learned zero.

You get a lot more in commissions from ad placements, direct mailers, and robocalling. That is why GOP campaign consultants avoid GOTV--it costs them personally and is a hassle compared with dealing with GOPe vendors of services.

If McConnell and McCarthy were fully engaged and trying to win, we would be looking at a historic win in the house. Over 260 Republicans.

Because McCarthy is trying to lose some seats, the ones he thinks are going to give him problems as leader (e.g. MI-03), the victory in 2022 will be less, something like 250 Republican seats. But even that is more than he would like. In his ideal world he would end up with a 10 seat majority, and blame the reduced number on Trump.

McConnell has less control over throwing Senate seats, and will end up with a 2-3 seat majority no matter what he does. He is going to lose allies in MO, OH, and NC and there is not a damn thing he can do about it.

But voter enthusiasm is so high, that this is outside of their control. Usually, they can get what they want by controlling the money. McCarthy has never returned Gibbs call in MI-03 and would like to see Gibbs lose if possible. Problem is the voters have a different agenda, and they know about this money game too.

Wyoming GOP votes in 2018 - 116,000, 2022 - 171,000, 47% increase in turnout.

I consider myself a fairly smart guy (probably a faulty assumption.) I am good at solving problems (except women.) However, I know that systematizing problem solving is flattering myself in that I 'Understand' a system. Understanding is always a progressive thing. It improves (and can also go down if you start going down a false path.) In the end, it often comes down to the inspiration/gut feeling route to find a solution. IN NO WAY do I think I am smart enough to even try to find a solution to something like AGW guys are making because I would instantly be thinking of all of the things I am NOT thinking of. You do not touch shit like that unless people are actually dying.

These people are so stupid, they cannot even grasp the infinite amount of shit that they do not know.
