Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Democrat Candidate for Pennsylvania Senate Returns to Campaign Trail After Hiding For Months Post-Stroke -- And Shows Signs of Cognitive ImpairmentThe good news is that he can probably live a mostly normal life. The bad news is that he cannot live a normal senatorship. But then, America elected -- or, "elected" -- a basement-hiding dementia patient as "President" so maybe we're just open to mentally impaired leaders now.
Well, I guess he'll go back to living with his parents. Should be minimally disruptive for all of them, at least. ABC "News" reports on Fetterman's escape from the asylum after suffocating McMurphy. The president of the Erie City Council -- who is a Democrat, though ABC "News" hides that from you and pretends she's some kind of nonpartisan official -- claimed she was "impressed" by this halting performance. Others were less impressed. ... Bob Nierakto, 81, of Erie, said he was "disappointed" in what he called Fetterman's lack of energy. "It doesn't matter why he lacked the energy. He just has to have it," he said. "I was looking for the fire, I was looking for the passion, I was looking for the enthusiasm, and I was looking for him to nail it. And he didn't nail it," said Nierakto, adding that he was committed to voting for Fetterman in November.A Fox News poll from July 28 had the post-stroke, basement-hiding Fetterman up over the Trump-endorsed celebrity candidate Mehmet Oz by eleven points. RCP has it as Fetterman +8.7 on average. Look, I'm just really, really tired of Trump's Z-list celebrity thing. No one's impressed by Z-list celebrities. They're only marginally impressed by real celebrities, but also think real celebrities don't know anything useful about public policy. (If they did think real celebrities were worth listening to, we'd have outlawed cars and air conditioning and meat 30 years ago.) But if Carrot Top ever runs for Congress, Trump will endorse him. I think one needs to wonder what motivates these people in terrible health (ahem, Brandon) to make politics and power the most important issue in their lives. Methinks once you've put power over your personal week being, it's not anything good that motivates you. I believe the country is experiencing the I'll effects of that right now. People saying that this seat is winnable if/ or are completely missing the point of the last two years. If Joe Biden can lose 40 points of "approval" but still pick up Senate seats it's proof positive that the voting machines aren't actually hooked up to anything. The neocons really can't afford their project to be halted by a MAGA wave until 2024, so they've made it very clear that they will roll this shambling corpse over the line if they can't put a McConnell stooge like McCormick into office.
Now, none of that means Doctor Mehmet Oz is going to deliver for anyone, least of all MAGA, but it is interesting how the most despicable people are desperate to hold back the rush in what was a battleground state (under much more favorable conditions for the Rats). I shouldn't have slighted Wayne County MI in my comment above. Comically insecure and suspicious vote tabulation, detailed by eyewitness contractors responsible for the machines and software. In 2020, as I'm sure in all elections going back at least 25 years or more, Wayne County's preposterous election "process" has been so bad that state-wide election recounts aren't really doable (state law requires precinct-level numbers to meet minimum integrity marks, which they don't). Recall in 2016, the weirdo Green candidate's recount crusade in Trump-flipped states couldn't even be done in MI, because the Wayne County precinct rosters didn't match the ballot numbers.
In PA, in a past life I was on the margins of, not working on, but completely informed about some state-wide campaign strategerizing. The pros just started with a fraud factor estimate for Phila - as they would with other set, practical factors, like whether a candidate could get certain union endorsements in western PA, etc - in mapping out state-wide strategy. It was amazing. And nothing seems to have changed. And like Americans generally, PA just live with it. Posted by: SH (Roe Overturned) at August 15, 2022 01:47 PM (sX1BW) It's about leverage. McConnell and the Federalists were a moderating influence which kept the Supreme Court from correctly realizing that the election was completely fake. Unfortunately for them, the Supreme Court HAD to overrule Roe versus Wade. It was that or admit the "judicial conservatism" project was a farce and a failure. Now you have the ghoulish freakshows at Planned Parenthood screaming like Trump washed their cocks with holy water. They would still be fantastically wealthy and influential if most American states had a fifteen or even ten week limit on abortions. And yet, some primal compulsion or spiritual imperative makes Democrat that yes, third trimester fetal murder/ organ trafficking IS their hill to die on. How very, very interesting. McConnell will keep gamely serving the CoC, but he hasn't got where he is by going down loyally with the ship. Posted by: trev006 at August 15, 2022 01:58 PM (fHh8u) 385

Posted by: SH (Roe Overturned) I've argued this many times - conservative judges was the one sop the GOPe was willing to give to conservatives. And, they are only willing to give that to us b/c the judiciary largely doesn't matter regarding the uni-party/globalist agenda. The courts aren't going to stop stupid global warming legislation, the courts aren't going to stop bad trade deals, the courts aren't going to secure the border, the courts aren't going to stop the politicization of the FBI and DOJ and their use against conservatives. The Courts for the most part don't matter to the globalist/uni-party agenda. That's why McConnell was willing to give us conservative judges. But, I do agree that if McConnell knew Trump was going to win, he would have let Garland come up for a vote. They never really wanted Roe overturned. Which is why it took so long for it to happen, despite having a "conservative" SCOTUS for decades. Posted by: Mehive at August 15, 2022 02:00 PM (ky+MF) 396

Things changed under O&Joe. Even locally, outside of Philadelphia, 'they' went and got a Jersey attorney whose family has a multimillion dollar foundation & ran him and another guy, a dating app developer with NYC connection, for the local council. They won. A few years later, when the remaining seats on the council were up for election, they finally dragged along two crazed (imo) women who ran for office previously but couldn't get their feet in the door when things were saner. They topped off the council with a young POC woman with a PhD, the only person who I actually found acceptable in the entire group.
From there, consultants galore have been brought in; cancelled the private employment county prison contract; established a Board of Health that was not needed; bought loads of new equipment for voting (hired consultants for that, too) and still f'ed up the distribution & receipt of ballots. Further, every single local/county election is now swamped in battle & confusion and with no vote count for days upon days. This is a crowded county but not a wealthy one. Politics & people are about as miserable as can be & there's no good news on the horizon. Posted by: Lola at August 15, 2022 02:15 PM (NIYa7) 489

They're only marginally impressed by real celebrities, but also think real celebrities don't know anything useful about public policy. (If they did think real celebrities were worth listening to, we'd have outlawed cars and air conditioning and meat 30 years ago.)
Don't kid yourself, Chuy. Celebrities were the leading edge of the forces that will kill IC-engine cars and force everyone to buy an EV, whether we like it or not. Celebrities were the leading edge of the push to legalize gay marriage, 'medical' marijuana and 'born this way' movements. Celebrities will have us eating bugs - not meat - and loving it. No doubt he thought getting rid of Trump made such a Committee LESS likely. I saw a movie the other day about a phony investigation of a Congressman, who was squeaky clean.
They set him up and got the goods on him, but the investigator hated what they did. The man in charge of the investigation told him, "You don't understand. The squeaky cleans guys are the most dangerous. They can't be controlled by the corrupt system. It is our job to dirty them up." That is the case with Trump. After four and a half years, they still have nothing on him and can't control him. That's why they have to eliminate him. Posted by: Adirondack Patriot at August 15, 2022 02:23 PM (lf83v) 526

Fox polls have been the most inaccurate for the last 6+ years. In 2020, Fox had Biden winning WI by 17 points (as one example).
So quoting Fox polls at this point is laughable and is done to drive the narrative the Oz was a "bad endorsement" by Trump. But Oz was endorsed by Trump not because Oz is a celebratory, but because Oz and Trump are friends, Oz worked for the Trump White House and Oz is not owned by the GOP establishment like McCormick (the only other viable R candidate in the primary) is. Ignoring those facts doesn't transform Trump's endorsement of Oz into a "celeb" endorsement. But what is funnier is the pretense that Fetterman wouldn't be leading whoever the R candidate was right now. The man had a stroke. He can barely talk. An 81 year old guy at the rally admitted something is wrong with Fetterman but is STILL COMMITTED TO VOTING FOR HIM. What does that tell you? That tells you the Democrats could put up a literal sack of hair with a (D) after its name and the sack of hair would be leading regardless of who the R candidate is. Posted by: whig at August 15, 2022 02:24 PM (CXr4y) Politicians are generally not courageous. And most of them don't really have any "principles" about governance - they just adopt the agenda that will get them and keep them elected. So, in the past 40 years I've been disappointed time and again as a seemingly passionate and true conservative became a tool of the GOPe once elected to the Senate. Or even sometimes to a governorship. So, I remain a pessimist that some of the people who are currently adopting MAGA type agendas would continue the same once elected to either the Senate or WH. Once elected, the power of incumbency makes it hard to beat you - even harder in a primary - so it's easy to jettison "conservative principles" and go along with the GOPe agenda. Politicians are generally not courageous.
Posted by: Thomas Paine at August 15, 2022 02:26 PM (lTGtQ) I doubt very much that a majority of people believe the 2020 election was fraudulent. I wish that were true, but I sincerely doubt it. In polls I've seen, only something around 60% of republicans believe the election was fraudulent. For a majority of Americans to believe it was fraudulent You would need all republicans plus a large majority of independents believing the election was fraudulent. Posted by: Braenyard --------------------- Running in a statewide race, O'Donnell had neither money nor name recognition. That allowed her to be portrayed something that she probably wasn't. If O'Donnell had a reputation, it would not have been as easy to smear her. The media is the hitmen for the establishments in both parties and the GOPe will leak to Dem sources and occasionally vice versa to take out someone. So, you can go with someone funded enough to run ads supporting their candidacy, you can go with someone that has already served in office and proven not to be a nutcase, or occasionally you can go with a celebrity who is a household name that the opposition has a harder time smearing. Astronauts for example used to be a thing with both Harrison Schmitt and John Glenn winning Senate seats and a few others winning or contesting house seats. Posted by: Ciampino --------------------- Whoever the ruling regime marks as a leader is one. A regime confident in its power does not make that mistake but one that depends on the veneer of popular support has to. Notice that DeSantis support dropped about ten points in the GOP polls for its 2024 nominee with Trump gaining support because the Regime is making it about Trump the opposition in accordance with Alinsky rather than the reasons the regime is being opposed. Posted by: Mehive Polling Report has it above 70 percent for Republicans and about 32 percent for independents from Quinnipiac in January of 2022. Dems reject it 89-6 believe widespread fraud in 2020. But, depending on how you ask it, a majority of voters are concerned that their vote might be affected by fraud. That suggests something called a socially acceptable answer situation which complicates polling. Polling is a low trust environment right now anyway and few people are expressing their true beliefs over the phone or internet to strangers when they can be identified.
