In front of a crowd nearly triple the anticipated turnout, John Fetterman, the Democratic nominee for Senate in the battleground state of Pennsylvania, spoke for roughly 11 minutes on Friday in his first public campaign appearance since suffering a stroke in May. Dressed in a hoodie and flanked by his wife, Gisele Barreto Fetterman, at a convention center in Erie, Fetterman discussed his stroke and threw jabs at his Republican opponent, Dr. Mehmet Oz, in front of an energized crowd his campaign said exceeded 1,300 people. The lieutenant governor briefly paused in the middle of several sentences and sometimes repeated words. In an interview last month with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, he said he was working with a speech therapist and insisted he had "nothing to hide" regarding his health. "Tomorrow is, three months ago, my life could have ended," he said, remembering the moment he said his wife noticed he was having a stroke on the way to a campaign event. "Let me just tell you right now, in front of everyone, Gisele saved my life." "Tonight, for me, it's about being grateful," he said. Keeping his remarks light on policy, Fetterman took several shots at Oz, whose campaign has made a daily habit of reminding voters of Fetterman's absence, publicizing a running "Basement Tracker."
... Bob Nierakto, 81, of Erie, said he was "disappointed" in what he called Fetterman's lack of energy. "It doesn't matter why he lacked the energy. He just has to have it," he said. "I was looking for the fire, I was looking for the passion, I was looking for the enthusiasm, and I was looking for him to nail it. And he didn't nail it," said Nierakto, adding that he was committed to voting for Fetterman in November.A Fox News poll from July 28 had the post-stroke, basement-hiding Fetterman up over the Trump-endorsed celebrity candidate Mehmet Oz by eleven points. RCP has it as Fetterman +8.7 on average. Look, I'm just really, really tired of Trump's Z-list celebrity thing. No one's impressed by Z-list celebrities. They're only marginally impressed by real celebrities, but also think real celebrities don't know anything useful about public policy. (If they did think real celebrities were worth listening to, we'd have outlawed cars and air conditioning and meat 30 years ago.) But if Carrot Top ever runs for Congress, Trump will endorse him.

To give Gopher some credit, he was Harvard educated, and seemed quite bright, and his family had been in Sioux City for generations. Still, it looked pretty carpetbag-ish to fly in from Hollywood and run for office. He was mildly conservative at best, and eventually ran in a Republican primary against the incumbent governor, because he was tired of waiting his turn.

So why Oz? I can see the argument that Trump went with the horse he thought had the best shot to win at the time, gave him his endorsement when it mattered, so he could trade on it in the future.
I don't think Hannity was a huge factor, but could be wrong. Does Trump listen to Hannity a lot? Maybe he made a bad bet, but I can somewhat see the logic behind his endorsement at the time.

I happened to catch Grandy on CSPAN once a long time ago; apparently some representatives were (my guess is, still are) making speeches in Congress that get broadcast over CSPAN, and acting as if they had a huge audience; other lawmakers were proposing complex solutions to deal with the fraud.
Grandy suggested just having the cameras occasionally pan the audience. I don’t know that anything came of it.

In PA, in a past life I was on the margins of, not working on, but completely informed about some state-wide campaign strategerizing. The pros just started with a fraud factor estimate for Phila - as they would with other set, practical factors, like whether a candidate could get certain union endorsements in western PA, etc - in mapping out state-wide strategy. It was amazing.
And nothing seems to have changed. And like Americans generally, PA just live with it.

I've argued this many times - conservative judges was the one sop the GOPe was willing to give to conservatives. And, they are only willing to give that to us b/c the judiciary largely doesn't matter regarding the uni-party/globalist agenda. The courts aren't going to stop stupid global warming legislation, the courts aren't going to stop bad trade deals, the courts aren't going to secure the border, the courts aren't going to stop the politicization of the FBI and DOJ and their use against conservatives.
The Courts for the most part don't matter to the globalist/uni-party agenda. That's why McConnell was willing to give us conservative judges. But, I do agree that if McConnell knew Trump was going to win, he would have let Garland come up for a vote. They never really wanted Roe overturned. Which is why it took so long for it to happen, despite having a "conservative" SCOTUS for decades.

So quoting Fox polls at this point is laughable and is done to drive the narrative the Oz was a "bad endorsement" by Trump. But Oz was endorsed by Trump not because Oz is a celebratory, but because Oz and Trump are friends, Oz worked for the Trump White House and Oz is not owned by the GOP establishment like McCormick (the only other viable R candidate in the primary) is. Politicians are generally not courageous. And most of them don't really have any "principles" about governance - they just adopt the agenda that will get them and keep them elected.
So, in the past 40 years I've been disappointed time and again as a seemingly passionate and true conservative became a tool of the GOPe once elected to the Senate. Or even sometimes to a governorship.
So, I remain a pessimist that some of the people who are currently adopting MAGA type agendas would continue the same once elected to either the Senate or WH. Once elected, the power of incumbency makes it hard to beat you - even harder in a primary - so it's easy to jettison "conservative principles" and go along with the GOPe agenda.

Only thing I can think of is that they feel like they have to publicly destroy his reputation first, to quell the public reaction. So they are going to go through a show of "discovery" which they will leak to the media . .

For the most part, beautiful losers without name recognition nor money get the Christine O'Donnell treatment. Remember Illinois GOP recruiting Alan Keyes to run against Obama and what a mess that was.
That is one of the problems in an urban state, you have to have money or name recognition/previous office holding. Mastriano himself will be outspent by a lot and is facing his own Never Mastriano contingent in the state.
Oz is not demonstrably worse than Toomey who supported Manchin's gun control bills, denied any fraud in PA elections, and loved him some corporate welfare. Specter was a Democrat in all but name until the end of his office holding career. Ridge is an embarrassing apologist for the Deep State and has his snout in the trough. Corbett was so unpopular and feckless that he lost reelection.

So, in the past 40 years I've been disappointed time and again as a seemingly passionate and true conservative became a tool of the GOPe once elected to the Senate. Or even sometimes to a governorship.
So, I remain a pessimist that some of the people who are currently adopting MAGA type agendas would continue the same once elected to either the Senate or WH. Once elected, the power of incumbency makes it hard to beat you - even harder in a primary - so it's easy to jettison "conservative principles" and go along with the GOPe agenda.

We are probably reaching an era of discontinuity--whether it is civil war, internal repression, etc. for the old regime. Don't count on the past predicting the future as the left has proposed actually trying to prevent farmers from producing food in Canada and the Netherlands to prevent global warming. Same as the coming winter for Euroland--it will be cold and dark for them and maybe us too.

I doubt very much that a majority of people believe the 2020 election was fraudulent. I wish that were true, but I sincerely doubt it.
In polls I've seen, only something around 60% of republicans believe the election was fraudulent. For a majority of Americans to believe it was fraudulent You would need all republicans plus a large majority of independents believing the election was fraudulent. Democrats are never going to believe it was fraudulent.

Running in a statewide race, O'Donnell had neither money nor name recognition. That allowed her to be portrayed something that she probably wasn't. If O'Donnell had a reputation, it would not have been as easy to smear her.
The media is the hitmen for the establishments in both parties and the GOPe will leak to Dem sources and occasionally vice versa to take out someone. So, you can go with someone funded enough to run ads supporting their candidacy, you can go with someone that has already served in office and proven not to be a nutcase, or occasionally you can go with a celebrity who is a household name that the opposition has a harder time smearing. Astronauts for example used to be a thing with both Harrison Schmitt and John Glenn winning Senate seats and a few others winning or contesting house seats.

It doesn't mean that. All it means is that things become very unpredictable. Even the Chinese, not given to mercy, did not execute the Gang of Four because of internal unrest. Going after an oppositional leader often lead to their triumphal reentry into politics in places as varied as Venezuela, S. Africa, to Weimar Germany.

Mandela was no 'leader' in that sense at the time of his trial and imprisonment. He was part of a group of dissidents in Johannesburg who plotted to put bombs in various places, including the railway station and that's what he was nabbed for. He was a clever guy, a lawyer, and became the ANC's martyr, and thus de facto leader, because he got caught and imprisoned.

Polling Report has it above 70 percent for Republicans and about 32 percent for independents from Quinnipiac in January of 2022. Dems reject it 89-6 believe widespread fraud in 2020. But, depending on how you ask it, a majority of voters are concerned that their vote might be affected by fraud. That suggests something called a socially acceptable answer situation which complicates polling. Polling is a low trust environment right now anyway and few people are expressing their true beliefs over the phone or internet to strangers when they can be identified.
