Joe Scarborough Brings On the Perfect Pitchman to Vouch for the Integrity of the FBI

Next up: Joe Scarborough explains his five-step plan for keeping lockers free of the unwanted bodies of inconvenient interns.

Who was it who was just saying that they're not even hiding that they're corrupt any more, that they want you to know that they're corrupt, because flaunting their corruption is a Statement about how powerful they are and how utterly powerless you are to do anything about it?

They're doing this on purpose. This is similar to Wray's "nah, bro, I'm too important and busy for your little hearings or whatever, so see ya" move. The object is to offend. They're in the positions of authority and power and they know the score. They also know that you know the score. Moves like this are to reinforce the point, not to try to counter it.

I don't know the nuances of venue identification/selection, but I suspect charges are coming. They convened a grand jury before releasing the warrant (though not the affidavit, last I knew). That isn't a nothing move. They may not have decided whether to instruct the grand jury to indict or not, but it would be an obvious move.

A more subtle move would be to instruct the grand jury to *not* indict. Then they can take no blame, point to "even the rotten borough of DC chose not indict the former president" (some positive happy-fun-time spin on that), and bow out gracefully while using it as future ammunition to respond to any "DC is corrupt and no justice is possible there" accusations when they surely come.

It is a point I have made repeatedly. For all the prog invective, Trump is not a radical. He's a moderate, center-right type (as opposed to his old position of being a moderate, center-left type). He is not a revolutionary, he is a reformer. Revolutionary acts aren't in his character.

Didja see this about why flyover Americans are so hateful?

David Roberts@drvolts
One thing I think about alot: the exurban & rural places in which US conservatives live are utterly bereft of public spaces. Church attendance is declining. There are virtually no civic groups & associations left. These people live in *profoundly* alienating circumstances.
. . . .
This is one explanation of the mania with which they flocked to Trump rallies. These folks just don't get together much; they live their lives in their houses, their trucks, & Walmarts. Increasingly, their only real communities are online (& utterly toxic).
. . . .
It will come as no surprise to anyone that I lay at least a large portion of the blame on car culture.

270 Its clear this is blowing back on Dems in a big way.

One thing I do worry about is they charge Trump and put him in cuffs and a mugshot.

That will make Jan 6 look like a Sunday picnic (which it was) and my guess is that's what Dems are aiming for.

They want a Civil War in this country where every non-leftist is portrayed as Timothy McVeigh. They are willing to go there to stay in power.
Posted by: Blago at August 15, 2022 12:20 PM (PwNLq)

I have to respectfully disagree. Too many people on 'our side' are constrained by work, families, bills, social connections and so on for an arrest of Trump to make them take to the streets. At most, a small band of easily overcome hotheads will spark off the provocation which gives the government the excuse for door-to-door confiscation or proscribing of voting rights.

Trump will be arrested and there will be no response by 'our side' beyond social media bloviating. Sorry to be a downer, but that's how I see it.

273 There is also the problem that any decent legal counsel has been chased away from anything to do with Trump. It is literally, as some found it, a career ending move.
---
And the Nickle and Dime Billionaire chisels them down for an hourly rate under $350 instead of, "you'll never have to look for work again" lifetime retainer.

There is no possible way Trump can't find good help-- he just doesn't want to pay the "Trump Surcharge" for good help.

And that's not getting into the literal millions in donations to the legal fund "stop the steal" he's sitting on. That could fund lifetime attorney jobs.

The whole fight has probably cost him tens of millions of dollars as he is the only president in recent time to come out poorer than when he went in.

Offering to spend big money for big law will only get him laughed at. They make far more from corporate grift than they ever will from a one off case. So, he is left with a motley crew for a legal team.

The difference now is that the corruption is so widespread and intense outside the FBI, that the agency feels confident to flaunt its corruption in public, and use brute force intimidation tactics in the light of day.

Yes there is. First, the law schools have been churning out lawfare types for about twenty years. Second, the remaining experienced lawyers on the right were GOPe types. Third, trial lawyers have bent overwhelmingly to the left for decades. So, who does that leave?

Lawyers, like doctors, are not fungible and an lawyer specializing in election law is different than who you need in a criminal case. A criminal case lawyer can be at sea with administrative law and so on.

I can name a few lawyers specializing in national security law but I am sure that none of them from previous statements would be willing to represent Trump no matter what he paid.

Anyway, this case is more political than legal which is what the right has not gotten through its head. There is no appeal to the law anymore as the ones that might side with Trump are frightened out of it by mob and official justice.

Makes sense. This whole thing is interesting to watch. If they try to do the whole 'Everything is great, the economy is roaring, Inflation is down!' thing, then people start thinking maybe things are not so bad, which drives demand up. This then gets money moving and the underlying inflation is revealed again.

I am waiting for the old 'Inflation is a sign of a roaring economy!' thing to be trotted out next.

It's also for the government to SPEND MONEY. They either bought or rented all of those barricades, fencing, etc. Either to get manufactured and delivered and installed, or get from a rental construction company (it's probably all on rent because of biggest opportunity for graft).

Those companies gladly pocket the costs of renting their gear to the government and then float 10+% back to the DNC election groups for the mid-terms.

Sends the opposite message--of fear and impotence. A confident government secure in its populace does not resort to an ersatz castle wall to protect itself.

First, it won't work if the populace decides to raid Stasi hq, and second, it conveys to the people inside to be afraid of those outside. That is not a winning message regardless of whatever a psyop person said. What you do not think about is that well over 50-60 percent of those studies are fraudulent in psychology and the psyop guys are literally relying on crap studies and data--the joke is that unless they replicate the studies--they have no way of knowing which studies are crap and which are correct.

Nothing - and I mean NOTHING - can do "profoundly alienating" like the atomized, disconnected, fully digitized existence of the stone-and-steel 21st Century urban American Communist antpile.

Small town and rural America is a place where people still have social connections without a little glass screen being involved. Not like they used to, certainly, but every day.

Our cities are where millions of people go to be absorbed into a soulless, mechanized facsimile of human existence in a sterilized, artificial environment.

Bragg is the new NYC DA but at last count abandoned a criminal probe into Trump as unlikely to lead to success. Leticia is the NY AG that is pursuing a civil case against the Trump organization for overstating the value of its assets. Problem for Leticia is that the Trump Organization is privately owned and thus asset valuation is almost purely internal. Banks, etc. rely on their own evaluations for any lending which makes it difficult to describe who the victim is.

That was those coming after Marx. Marx himself believed that by the time of the Revolution, the wealthy capitalists would be so small a group as to be indefensible. That was key to his belief in a revolution's success--capitalism inevitably led to only a few oligarchs owning all. The later ones such as Lenin were trying to explain the failure of Marxian revolutions in the most advanced capitalistic states such as Germany and the UK. They came up with a lame false consciousness argument which derived from Marx's comment that the opiate of masses is religion. In Das Kapital, Marx himself spends relatively little time describing the state after the revolution except it is all happy times for everyone with only a brief dictatorship of the proletariat to lead the unenlightened to true communism.

Sheer balderdash.

I see that sort of thing as deep denial, more than Panglossian. Pangloss was an unfair parody of Liebniz & Theodicy. But I think it was more meant to highlight the acceptance of the existence of evil of G-d's will, and the (in Voltaire's view) ridiculous optimism associated with it.
