The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“But also, I think what we also need to recognize is that it does reduce inflation. I didn't realize this until we started negotiating and working on this, but 40% of inflation is fueled by fossil fuels. So what we are doing now is moving forward quickly, I must say not quick enough for some of us, but quickly toward a green economy, creating good-paying jobs. Rep. Barbara Lee(D-CA)

The stupidity oozes from her pores.

Quote II

“There are lots of good people in the FBI. It’s the top that is the problem. Some of these good agents are coming to us, telling us what is baloney, what’s going on — the political nature now of the Justice Department — God bless them for doing it — talking about the school board issue, about a whole host of issues.” Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH)

Cough-Bull-Cough-Shit

Quote III

Well, I don’t think we’re a republic anymore. I would say we're in a transition to a radical democracy, and by that I mean that what anybody wants to do on any given day, if they have power or the votes, they do it. Victor Davis Hanson

And this is why we can't have affordable child care in Washington, D.C.

Federal Court Upholds Washington, DC Regulation Requiring Child Care Workers to Have College Degrees
The decision may be in accordance with Supreme Court precedent. But if so, it underscores that precedent's flaws.

Last Friday, the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit upheld an onerous Washington, DC law requiring child care workers to have a college degree. The ruling is understandable in light of Supreme Court precedent giving the government very broad deference in enacting "economic" regulations (though it stretches even that precedent to the limit). But if the ruling is a correct application of precedent, it serves to highlight how awful the precedent itself is.

What's next, a college degree to reproduce?

How Your Carbon Footprint And Your Carbon Wallet Are Really Going To Work In The Dystopian World That WEF Has Planned?

Let me introduce you to Barbara Baarsma. Barbara is the CEO of Rabo Carbon Bank. Yes, you read that right. Not Rabo Bank but Rabo Carbon Bank. In this 53 second video interview below she is advocating for a "Personal Carbon Wallet". That may not seem like a big deal but when you hear what she has to say you should be concerned, very concerned in fact.

Speaking of global warming or climate change: California cows are leaving the state and that won’t help global warming - California is nearly halfway to a 2030 goal for methane reduction. But that's in part thanks to cows, and their methane, 'leaking' into other states.

In the parlance of climate change, the phenomenon is known as “leakage.”

Last month, Northview Dairy in Ontario sold nearly 3,000 cows to a farmer with properties in Kansas and Colorado. During a recent lunch break — after tearing down the rows of cow sheds that have paralleled a stretch of Haven Avenue for three decades — Northview dairy manager German Cisneros said the sale was the result of a combination of increasing regulations, high prices for cows, and a great offer from an Irvine company to turn the land into housing.

It makes perfect sense from a business perspective. But those former California cows are now residents of states with different air quality laws. And in the global effort to combat climate change by cleaning up dairy farming, that matters.

When Northview Dairy set up shop in the 1990s, there were an estimated 500 dairy farms housing some 400,000 cows in Chino and south Ontario, making the region one of the most concentrated places for milk production on the planet. Today, Cisneros said there are just 22 dairies left, surrounded by massive warehouse buildings and tract home communities with names like “Amberhill Farms.”

Many of the once-local cows have gone north to places like Bakersfield and the San Joaquin Valley, where land is cheaper and urban creep less intense. But, as with Northview’s herd, thousands of others have been shipped across state lines to dairies that don’t have to worry as much about rising costs, worsening water shortages and rigorous regulations around everything from animal welfare to air quality.

Well of course those cows went to other locales. Reminds me of Democratic Presidential Conventions, move the urban outdoorsmen, winos and prostitutes away from the convention site. They aren't in camera view but down the road.

An interesting read by James Howard Kunstler.

A Different Sort of Warrant
Former president Trump is not without resources and recourse in all this. Though the news media does not follow it, the Trump v Clinton lawsuit trial continues, and it might not go so well for Mrs. Clinton and her friends….

It should be pretty obvious that the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago was an attempt to seize evidence likely to be used in former President Donald Trump’s civil lawsuit in the Southern Florida Federal District Court against Hillary Clinton and associated defendants in and out of government for the defamation and racketeering operation known as RussiaGate — AND in any future criminal proceedings that might grow out of congressional investigations-to-come against officials past and present in the DOJ and FBI. The idea is to tie up all those documents in a legal dispute about declassification so they can’t be entered in any proceeding.

#LearnToCode, muthafvckers.

Media conglomerate Gannett announced on Friday that it would lay off staff at local news outlets across the United States following a dismal earnings report.

The company, which owns USA Today and more than 250 local outlets, reported total revenues of $748.7 million and a net loss of $53.7 million in its second quarter — reflecting a 7.2% decline in margins.

“Our second quarter results and updated full year outlook reflect industry-wide headwinds in digital advertising as well as rising costs and pressures on consumers which are impacting our near-term performance,” Gannett CEO Michael Reed said in the earnings report. “During the quarter we experienced a rapidly tightening macroeconomic environment caused by rising inflation coupled with distribution labor shortages and price sensitive consumers which has affected our traditional print business.”

Coming soon to America. The teacher lobby is always about the children. No, I didn't write that with a straight face.

Schools are reportedly considering three or four-day weeks to manage soaring energy bills and teacher pay rises.

Headteachers and academy trust leaders are having to think of ways to save costs as budgets come under increased pressure.

Schools are grappling with rocketing inflation and budget increases failing to keep up with soaring rates, which could surpass 15 per cent next year.

Teachers have also warned schools were on the brink of a “full-blown crisis” by having to foot the bill for the recent pay increase for teachers, as well as rising energy bills.

Some good news for those who own John Deere tractors and are forced to use them for tractor repairs.

Farmers around the world have turned to tractor hacking so they can bypass the digital locks that manufacturers impose on their vehicles. Like insulin pump “looping” and iPhone jailbreaking, this allows farmers to modify and repair the expensive equipment that’s vital to their work, the way they could with analog tractors. At the DefCon security conference in Las Vegas on Saturday, the hacker known as Sick Codes is presenting a new jailbreak for John Deere & Co. tractors that allows him to take control of multiple models through their touchscreens.

The finding underscores the security implications of the right-to-repair movement. The tractor exploitation that Sick Codes uncovered isn't a remote attack, but the vulnerabilities involved represent fundamental insecurities in the devices that could be exploited by malicious actors or potentially chained with other vulnerabilities. Securing the agriculture industry and food supply chain is crucial, as incidents like the 2021 JBS Meat ransomware attack have shown. At the same time, though, vulnerabilities like the ones that Sick Codes found help farmers do what they need to do with their own equipment.

If you own a product you should be able to have any firm you wish to work on it.

This could be a big deal. Concrete as we know it may be changing.

Engineers Have Created Durable Concrete Made From Ground-Up Rubber Tires
The new concrete is strong, cheaper to make, and repurposes millions of used tires.

The strength and durability of cement has made it a staple building material around the world, but engineers from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia have finally come up with a way to manufacture it at a lower cost by swapping in some recycled materials.

Making concrete uses a fairly simple recipe. A binding agent, which is usually a paste-like material called portland cement, is mixed with water and aggregates: a combination of sand, rocks, and gravel. Adjusting the amount of the various ingredients can alter the properties of the concrete, making it stronger or lighter as needed, but some of the items on the ingredient list, like larger stones and gravel, can increase the price, particularly in parts of the world where those materials aren’t always readily available.

Silly Republicans, rules are for peons not the much vaunted FBI Director, Christopher Wray.

House Republicans want answers on FBI Director Christopher Wray’s use of Justice Department jets for personal use following reports that he left a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing to fly to upstate New York.

The flight in question occurred on Aug. 4, the day before FBI investigators sought and received approval for a raid of former President Donald Trump’s home in Mar-a-Lago. Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH), the ranking member on the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the top Republican on House Oversight, and Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), sought answers from Wray on Monday.

Client-Attorney privileged communications? Never heard of that. Posted by FBI Storm Troopers

EXCLUSIVE: The FBI seized boxes containing records covered by attorney-client privilege and potentially executive privilege during its raid of former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, sources familiar with the investigation told Fox News, adding that the Justice Department opposed Trump lawyers' request for the appointment of an independent, special master to review the records.

Sources familiar with the investigation told Fox News Saturday that the former president’s team was informed that boxes labeled A-14, A-26, A-43, A-13, A-33, and a set of documents—all seen on the final page of the FBI’s property receipt —contained information covered by attorney-client privilege.

AUGUST 10--A Florida Woman this year has made more than 11,000 harassing phone calls to a police emergency communications center, according to cops who say the defendant admitted that she “loves playing this game.”

Carla Jefferson, 50, was busted Monday evening on a misdemeanor charge of placing a torrent of phone calls to the St. Petersburg Police Department and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

A criminal complaint alleges that Jefferson--during a single 24-hour period last month--called the police department’s emergency communications center 512 times.

Jefferson, investigators say, “harasses, belittles, swears at, argues with” police employees who answer her calls. “The content of these phone calls are vulgar, threatening, or obscene” and “contain extreme expletives, sexual innuendo, and belittling remarks to the communications staff,” according to a court filing

It is so, so easy to bullshit most people. She is a beautiful illustration of one method. Give them a statistic or fact to repeat. It doesn't make that thing true, of course. But it makes the idiot feel suddenly smart. Now, pair that bullshit fact or figure to what lie you want them to believe ? Congrats - you've just set the hook.

Some here already know this, the type that can see through the car dealer's horse-shit. Or the banker's or politician's or doctor's or lawyer's. It has very little to do with education - almost the inverse, if you ask me. My wife has two degrees. Put somebody in front of her with a tie or uniform and a credential ? 37 VDH I find meh or sub-meh on many subjects, though obviously his heart and mind are in the right place. OK it's just that one sentence pull quote, but huh? No, not a question of anyone doing whatever they want if they have power.

We just had a presidency in which a president with the actual, legitimate, unquestionable statutory and/or constitutional "power" to do many many Xs and Ys that were utterly routine, and justified, and even popular actually, was unable to do them. Even his comms in private conversations with foreign heads of state weren't secure (for even one day).

No VDH, it's nothing like a free for all, or heading that way. It's obviously authoritarians with totalitarian aspirations running amok, and they are found on only one side of the so-called spectrum.

I think they mix in (oyster?) shells in some places. Concrete is pretty awesome though .. also it brings back some much needed CO2 ... if all CO2 kept going into crustaceans and other such "decarbonizing" creatures and things like calcium carbonate (like gravel), our world would die from lack of CO2 in the atmosphere.

They don't believe in economics. I still believe the price of everything, eventually, settles on the equilibrium decided by how much of the thing is out there, and how much money is available from willing buyers to trade for the thing. It takes a while, more for some things than others, but that's the basics of it.

Well, that, and I can teach that to most high school kids in a day. Pretty tough to fill 100s of graduate programs with something so simple.

163 "Zac Brown Band in Hershey PA last night was a great time."

like that Chicken Fried song ... and I like the country songs that praise real life. BUT, real life is enjoyed by many because real patriots sacrificed and fought the "establishment" going back to the founders.

And yeah, military are generally awesome, but there too, it is the "patriots" that fight against the regime, not easily done.

Same in religion, those that fight the commie pope for example, might be exiled from "the faith". The good life the country guys sing about is awesome .. God and Country sure, but that happens because of founder types willing to pledge/wager their honor and fortunes against the prevailing corrupt powers.

My dad didn't have a high school diploma, but I learned how to deal with car dealers through him. When I buy a car I know exactly what I want before I walk in the door. It's even better now because you can figure everything out online.

207 So for long trips I don't drive my own car, I rent: "Hey, your car broke. Give me another one." Much less anxiety.
I reserved a pickup truck as Gas Panic, so it was the same cost as a compact car and it seemed cool. I arrive, and my usual rental agent (7+ years) thought he was doing me a favor. "Hey, LN, I figured you were hauling something, so I upgraded you to the GINORMOUS ONE-TON VAN!"
I'm like, "Whaaa-"
It's all they had that morning. So I'm driving around doing an in-State trip I could easily have done with a compact car with a fucking EEHHUUGE panel van. Ugh serves me right. Trying to have fun.
I DO like the backup camera being a 'window' in the rear-view mirror, I like that a LOT.

Posted by: PaleRider is simply irredeemable at August 15, 2022 10:46 PM (3cGpq)

209 Dear lefties,

Carbon is neither created or destroyed. Worrying about your carbon footprint is totally retarded.

CO2 is absorbed so quickly by plants that if we stopped producing CO2 today, we would be out of CO2 by tomorrow.

CO2 is a trace gas in the atmosphere. It is around 400 parts per million or .04%

On a typical summer day there is 7 times as much water vapor in the air as CO2 and H2O has about twice the heat capacity of CO2...The thermal effects of CO2 are insignificant compared to water.

CO2 is the heaviest gas in the atmosphere so it stays closest to the ground where the plants are. There is no CO2 dome trapping heat in the upper atmosphere like they teach to middle schoolers.

Forest fires are completely natural occurrences and produce more CO2 annually than all human activity combined.

++++

lol. Oh no! Belittling remarks.

Buried at the end of the piece:
Investigators say that Jefferson’s 11,000+ calls account for “approx. 10% of the total call volume to the St. Petersburg Police Department non-emergency number.”

Tires are the very definition of a composite material, and hard as Hell to take apart in any meaningful way. They are also composed primarily of embodied petroleum. Best way to recycle them? Burn them in a kiln, and use the hot gas stream to drive a gas turbine, and generate electricity. And out of the ass end of the kiln comes heat-softened steel wire, which can be baled, and shipped to smelters to make new steel. Win, win.

277 "Carbon is neither created or destroyed. Worrying about your carbon footprint is totally retarded."

True, BUT, CO2 is essential, and it was being removed from the atmosphere for millions of years ... if that continued, all life dies.

Not sure how much man has to do with slowing that process, much comes from the oceans due to the normal equilibrium of some grand equation, as a warming period ensued (glaciers retreating 10k years ago) .... BUT human activity (burning oil, cement production) brought some CO2 out ... we need to keep that trend. (but not sure the human factor can do it along, normal warming might save us for some time)

In any case, the CO2 fight is just a political WMD, another in the long line of BigLies.

286 Tires are the very definition of a composite material, and hard as Hell to take apart in any meaningful way. Win, win.

They still stand! And the concrete they used was without an aggregate that is of an organic nature. Rubber degrades over time. Maybe 50 years, maybe 80.
I wouldn't be surprised if it happened sooner due to stresses on the roads or buildings. I remember my dad speaking about this specifically: be careful what you add to the cement when you make concrete. Add the wrong thing and you weaken it drastically.

One trick that's used is that the Five Eyes (US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand) help each other out on occasion.

For example, if the Canadian government wants to surveil the communications of a Canadian citizen, they ask the Australians to do it.

That way, the Canadian government maintains deniability, and can say that they are not surveilling the subject.

426 Well anyway, SMH, it took me ages to figure out who and what you are. I lurked for years, after Second City Cop went out. You've said you're 70%, yeah, can relate.
But, then, how does one explain that? How does one prove that? The nature of what I've grown to call The Memory Disease militates against trust.
I'm cut loose in Time, everything is Now and also Before, and nothing is what it's supposed to be. Reality isn't.
The nightmares are the worst. My Ex would sleep next to me, then wake up in a puddle of freezing cold sweat with her pajamas and body slimed all up and scream, "How do you stand this?!"
To which I would plead, "I just barely can."
'I'm sorry' doesn't even come close to cutting it, and there is nothing one can do.
Anyway.
I'm being more honest here now.
Also, The Baltics are nowhere near San Francisco.

430 Yes, "teachers that can teach" are important.

yes, important. But the most important thing is what they teach. my grandmother taught my father and many other children in a one room schoolhouse. those children later went to work, or to the HS in the nearest small town. very few were unsuccessful in life. i learned more from my grandmother and grandfather than i ever learned in any school. they taught me how to learn, how to think discriminately. same with my parents.

now you are either naturally smart, or they just pump you with amphetamines, and shove an ipad in front of you. they want to be the moral conscience of these children, but the teachers and parents want nothing to do with discipline or actually teaching a child anything.

437 Yes, "teachers that can teach" are important. But tech can improve education, if we can keep the Woke Teacher (and the administrators) out of the way. What we have is improved tech that should improve education being counteracted by the Woke teacher and Woke system of brainwashing.
Posted by: illiniwek at August 15, 2022 11:46 PM (Cus5s)

Tech can create a situation that massively decentralizes education, but at the moment it is being used to try to scale old methods of ed, which is not workable. I think the new tech is getting in the way of educating kids, and being focused on pushing the right buttons to make it play.
Teaching is a way to present information to the pupil in a way to allow each bit of new knowledge to build on the previous, until mastery is reached and can be understood outside of the frame that it was presented.
Modern techniques try to shortcut to that final stage with tricks and hacks that don't allow mastery, only proficiency within the usages it was taught.

No one reads or tries to understand Piaget anymore.

OK, but that is not about tech, it is about how tech is used.

I never heard of Piaget (20 second search), but sure, kids need to advance through stages .. my guess is even those stages are not set in stone as to ages ... or at least, a broader development within those stages could be accomplished via "tech".

Garbage in garbage out ... the kids now are indeed more "advanced", but maybe their maturity is not advanced along with their "knowledge" (of how awesome anal sex is, for example).

My wife convinced me to try tying up the Napa cabbages, (yes that is really what we did) to make them grow better. I only did half, so I will see if that makes a difference.

awesome ... hope a multitude are listening and acting. FBI/AG and the rest are domestic terrorists, so of course they accuse true patriots (e.g. parents that don't like school boards covering up a "trans" boy assaulting their daughter in a girl's bathroom) of being the "Real Domestic Terrorists".

They are predators and they are enjoying their power to make good people suffer. Maybe good people rise up, or maybe the BigTech machines actually control the brains of mal-instructed last couple of generations. idk

Things may collapse but they have a long list of evil ones to blame (all those that voted Trump, all those that don't express 'Pride" of the anal sex crowd, all that deny the world has 20 degrees hotter because humans drive cars, or deny Fauci is our savior ... etc.)

I guess she said did you just fist bump, but my hearing is going. Sounded really creepy at first.

I'm here. the Missus is in pre-op, awaiting an appendectomy. thankfully it has not ruptured, so it should be a fairly routine laproscopic (sp) procedure. The only downside is that there are no post-ops rooms available, so I will likely bringing her home early tomorrow. Also there were two other appendectomies ahead of hers, so. But, I am only a ten minute drive from the hospital, so when I get the green light to collect her, I'll be there.

She appreciates the prayers from the Horde. As do I.

Scared the shit out of me.
She finally did that Horror Movie Thing, with the huge intake of breath, shuddered all over, and said, "OmG, I've never come like that before! I LOVE YOU!"

Aren't these the kind of disputes ordinarily settled by an appellate court? This all seems like a prime matter for the Supreme Court, to be honest. Shouldn't we assume Trump's lawyers are appealing these issues to the higher courts, including the overly-broad warrant itself? Why haven't we heard about any appeals filed yet? It all seems very odd.

So in Western terms, I've delivered a baby.

That's Robert Mason, from CHICKENHAWK, and her forum was crazy as shit, back in The Bad Old Days of the freewheeling Interwebs. You would not even believe the shit got posted there. Russians and Afghans, Just crazy shit.
What really fucked me, really launched me back, was a broken English plea from a Bosnian Muslim, begging for spiritual help from Sarajevo. He posted a few times, then vanished.
His older brother posted back a month later, thanking us all in the name of his family and his mother, but K had left the house in the middle of the night and hung himself in a public park.
That's what launched me back to The Balkans.

547 Soon as I saw Kenneth Copeland's wife being introduced as a "Pastor", I stepped away from that whole branch of belief.

Insight: Late '70s, Copeland taught a "prosperity" that spoke loud against greed, avarice, lust. Quoted much scripture as to how GODLY living brought blessings, but such were not to be squandered on UnGodly consumptions.

This all went away about the time his wife begain to preach. Coincidence? I do not think so.

554 Slap. The "intro to" Prosperity Theory, as found in scripture, is largely sound.

But the "Get Rich and Live in Mansion and Drive a Bently" versions thereof, are of the devil, right along with the Mrs. being the Spiritual Authority in a Church and etc.

It's the bastardization of understanding The Blessings of living a Godly Life, that have been twisted into the latter, vs. the former.

God is not the God of Want, or Poverty, or Hunger or etc. He wants us to have our true needs, fulfilled.

A full larder, a snug roof, a warm bed, a loving spouse, healthy kids...THIS is "prosperity". Not marbled staircases, gilded faucets, private jets. It's so simple, it takes a "theologian" to mis understand it.

The Romans used the ash from the local tufa beds for their concrete, and it was superior to even ours today. Scientists have figured out it was the components in there. Even made the concrete get stronger in seawater.

Yes, some has collapsed. Not all made of the same stuff. It's like Damascus steel (the original); it was made with ore that had vanadium and a couple of other metals that actually made an amazingly strong alloy. The recipe wasn't lost, they, like Dr. Jekyll (until the end), didn't realize it was the impurites that made it great, not it's purity.

Rome had its corruption in civil engineering projects, too, with the penalties being a little more severe if caught than what we see now. Not that that's a bad thing.

Making 10 million sesterces and being fined 1 million sesterces for fraud/corruption versus making 10 million sesterces and, once caught committing fraud, being Flavian Amphitheater entertainment by being exposed to wild beasts.

The Church is built on a hilltop, which was originally an Oak Tree, and a Pagan shrine, going back who knows. It's so ancient nobody knows how old it is.
On the bus ride there, because nobody goes there, I saw locals driving goat carts on Roman roads. I walked on them. The stones feel weird under your feet.
Then I bought an Ilkon and got the FUCK out of there, that place was scary as fuck.

I have no love for Woodrow, but I was looking up the Income Tax being reinstituted in 1913. I had always thought Wilson signed it into law. My mistake. It was actually a Constitutional amendment (the 16th) that gave Congress the power to tax personal income; Wilson had nothing to do with it. There had been an ongoing political battle over tariffs vs. income tax and income tax finally won.

Doesn't make Wilson any less of an asshole, though. One of my personal favorite American History highlights is when the Senate rejected US entry into Wilson's League of Nations after WWI.

So there were two bonehead Constitutional Amendments passed in 1913, the 16th and the 17th Amendments, to be followed by the abortion called the 18th Amendment in 1919.

Constitutionally speaking, the early 20th Century was not good for America.

Don't know if that was it but on US Hwy 84 between Enterprise and Dothan Alabama there were multiple sections of test roads years ago (late 80s). Signs labeled the beginning of each particular section.

Fun fact, Tubi has the original Max Headroom on streaming, and Jenette Goldstein is in an episode.
I've never liked the incompetence of the Colonial Marines, not realistic. But the movie is such a nail-biter it makes up for it.
The opening is sickening, when Ripley learns her daughter is dead.

To be honest, if the Repubs take the House and Senate in November -- and show a pair, I don't fear a Laughing Cow presidency too much. She won't be able to get much through Congress. If, however, the Repubs don't take back Congress, then Kamaltoe could be a problem once FJB dies/is impeached (is there a difference?).

Once Congress is Repub hands, impeach and convict FJB for being incompetent/corrupt. Then we'll see what happens with Trump and the 2024 elections.
