The Morning Report — 8/15/22

relaxjoey.jpg

Good morning, kids. Monday, and while the Gestapo-like raid on Mar-a-Lago still dominates the news, a couple of stories that occurred over the weekend frame it rather fittingly. First, Salman Rushdie, the author of the book The Satanic Verses was stabbed multiple times at an event in upstate New York and remains in grave condition. Published in 1988, the book caused much of the Islamic world to lose whatever of its mind it hadn't lost in the previous 1,300 years with the Ayatollah Khomeini issuing a fatwa on him, the Muslim version of what's commonly known as "putting out a contract" on someone. To many, in the obtuse up-talk Valley Girl lingo of Obama mouthpiece Tommy Vietor "1988, that's like a million years ago, dude!" Not to these barbarians, dude. The goal of achieving paradise on earth via conquest and subjugation, as well as silencing by any means necessary (heh) enemies, heretics and unbelievers is eternal. No matter how long it takes and wherever you may go, you're forever in the crosshairs. Sound familiar?

While Rushdie himself is not exactly a likable guy, mostly because of his antipathy towards Britain, which protected him at great expense for decades, as well as his antipathy to this country, he has somewhat ironically become a symbol of free speech.

"The moment you declare a set of ideas to be immune from criticism, satire, derision or contempt, freedom of thought becomes impossible."

"If you're offended, it's your problem."

"Free speech is the whole thing, the whole ball game. Free speech is life itself."

Absolutely 1,000 % right on. And now, Salman Rushdie is on a ventilator after getting ventilated by a man who was born nine years after his "blasphemous" book was published.

Take away the fancy calligraphy, the pseudo-religious trappings, substitute the beliefs of Marx and Engels for Mohammed and you have today's leftists. Just like this fatwa fan-boy, someone like Alexandria "Titty Caca" Ocasio-Cortez was born and came of age decades after the real societal upheavals brought about by the Industrial Revolution and Great Depression that added the fuel to the fire of the American socialist movement. In fact, the America she was born into was the absolute negation of everything Marx and Engels proclaimed. She was a school kid but she no doubt saw the Soviet Union itself come to an end and the Berlin Wall dismantled. Yet there she is, representative of her generation and perhaps upwards of a third of the nation, spouting and believing utterly stupid, but nevertheless dangerous drivel.

Nowadays, to refute or even laugh at someone like her is to face retribution that can range from banning in media to losing one's job, or even worse. That brings me to the second story that frames the Mar-a-Lago incident, which is the House passing the Orwellian "Inflation Reduction Act" that principally helps destroy our economy with Green New Deal crap but notably expands the IRS to a size larger than the Marine Corps and gives the newly formed cadres the power to use deadly force. No, it's not about audits. It's about punishing the average American citizen who dares go against this junta. It will take a few years for this to really get going but even if the GOP is swept into power this November and in '24, Dao-Min Yen notwithstanding, will they have the stones as well as the veto-proof majority to repeal this law? The Obamacare repeal kabuki-bukkake theatrics does not exactly fill me with strength and confidence.

But we're getting ahead of ourselves and into the weeds. The broader picture remains insofar as these criminals in power have indeed, as friend and friend of the blog Michael Walsh states, crossed the Rubicon with this raid on President Trump.

It's [a] step of breathtaking audacity, but hardly surprising. Not for nothing is the Democrats' unofficial motto "by any means necessary." Since the days of Burr and Jefferson Davis and John Wilkes Booth, violence has always lurked just below the surface of their "higher" patriotism. Indeed, as the Sixties exemplified, it's part of their appeal. "The worst are full of passionate intensity," wrote William Butler Years in his widely quoted poem, The Second Coming, written in 1919. "Surely, the Second Coming is at hand. . ."

. . . The key to understand the Left, pretty much from Rousseau on, is that they believe in an "arc of history," which amazingly bends toward their preferred transient policy prescriptions in the here and now. It's a kind of misplaced messianism, with an imminent savior ready to descend to earth to establish a new kingdom of heaven, one in which they will witness the destruction of their enemies, and over which they will rule for ever and ever, amen. "The country is on fire," Trump reportedly wrote to Garland in a message sent after the raid. "What can I do to reduce the heat?"

The answer, of course, is: nothing. . .

. . .they know their fingernail-hold on power can all disappear this fall, and the specter of an enraged Trumpzilla returning to stomp them into matchsticks in 2024 absolutely terrifies them. As it should.

Like Caesar, they're playing for keeps now. Either they complete their overthrow of the Republic or, in Ben Franklin's memorable phrase, they'll all hang together. The die is cast: "by any means necessary"? You ain't seen nothing yet.

As you may know, Walsh is not a supporter of Trump running in '24. But with this column, I think he recognizes that the issue is no longer Trump. This unwarranted, illegal raid, whatever the intent by the junta in going after him, is yet another crossing of a bright red line into uncharted and dangerous territory. Uncharted insofar as our history, yet we have seen this time and again throughout history, especially in the 20th century. If you think things were already "interesting" per the Chinese proverb, I refer you to Walsh's last line.

This was a person on the right saying that we can't stop what's coming.

Of course the advice was "don't take the bait" - and I am guessing you have to write that anymore or else you get to go to jail too.

20 Is this the week the left starts freaking out about student loan repayments? They are set to resume on the 31st.

My prediction, they make a wild demand to forgive all student loans. When the republicans balk, the dems allow repayments to begin again. Then campaign season is filled with stories of young Lamar who has to make a choice between paying for his grandmother's insulin or paying his student loan. Or Tiddy Terrific who just started her transition hormone therapy but can no longer afford it because of student loan repayments. And it is all because of those mean old republicans who want diabetic grandmothers and transitioning Tina to die.

61 Defining Depression

*********

I like where this discussion is headed, de-emphasizing the chemical and shifting to defining the source of contentment (happiness), but while raising some interesting thoughts, this article barely scratches the surface. By naming Virtues as the source of contentment, the author starts to frame the cure for depression into a matter of personal ownership, but stops short of saying that those virtues of morality, compassion, integrity, and others are the bedrock of Judeo-Christian teachings and beliefs.

Punishing those against the junta will be the icing on the cake. I think the real prime motivation, though, is to squeeze the middle class. You don't need close to 90k people to go after rich guys. You probably don't even need that many people to go after vocal dissidents. But you do need those guys to go after every middle-class family with a side gig. The garbage man's wife who sells stuff on eBay or the factory worker who does some handyman work on the side or the waitress who pockets that cash tip without declaring it are to be targeted mercilessly.

First they make it harder and harder to get ahead, then they'll punish you if you try.

73 The key to understand the Left, pretty much from Rousseau on, is that they believe in an "arc of history," which amazingly bends toward their preferred transient policy prescriptions in the here and now. It's a kind of misplaced messianism, with an imminent savior ready to descend to earth to establish a new kingdom of heaven, one in which they will witness the destruction of their enemies, and over which they will rule for ever and ever, amen.
++++
They will rule, but they will not rule a kingdom of men. Ever since the middle period of tyranny-minded intellectuals - Marx, Jeremy Bentham, etc. - the goal of the tyrants' philosophies has been the end of man as he is. This vision was best-developed in communism, where the process would bring about the "New Socialist Man." None of this stuff is humane or compatible with humans. The only way to bring it about is to do away with man and replace him with something else. Some sort of automata.

They're literally death cultists. Man must be killed for New Man to rise.

See also: trust.

Respect and trust are hand-in-glove. The FBI - like an increasing number of government agencies and other institutions - has neither. How widespread this is depends on how based and/or black-pilled the person you ask is. It will range from "Man, these obviously corrupt institutions are untrustworthy" to "every single major institution from government to academia to industry is full of sinister, lying shitweasels and they all need to be torn down."

But both groups are growing, and that's not a great thing if you're in the institutions. Trust is declining. Bigly.

First, President Trump declassified many documents, as is the right of a president. Some of these documents have been somehow re-classified (which is pointless, except for the ramifications) and he is going to be indicted for possession of classified documents. This is the pretext for number two.

Second, the FBI was grabbing privileged communications between Trump and his legal team, so that they can illegally intervene. This is the more serious crime that the FBI has committed.

Institutionally, I think you can remove the qualifier. An individual can restore trust and gain respect with a long period of appropriate behavior, especially if he moves to a new area and starts over.

An institution, though, cannot. Once distrusted and disrespected, it's game over. The institution needs to be replaced when that happens. Big webs of institutions - like a government - can survive that as a whole, but only after publicly and ruthlessly dismantling and replacing sub-institutions and having big, visible crackdowns in the rest of the complex.

151 I like where this discussion is headed, de-emphasizing the chemical and shifting to defining the source of contentment (happiness), but while raising some interesting thoughts, this article barely scratches the surface. By naming Virtues as the source of contentment, the author starts to frame the cure for depression into a matter of personal ownership, but stops short of saying that those virtues of morality, compassion, integrity, and others are the bedrock of Judeo-Christian teachings and beliefs.

I would agree that trust for all of the federal government is going down.

In a feral state, no one trusts any institution nor organization and it becomes smash and grab if one sees any opportunity to grab what one wants--power, sex, or money.

The problem with the Frankfurt School is that it basically taught the Communists to take charge from within instead of Marx's forceful revolution. The contradiction is that the Frankfurt School envisaged its governance as successful and never created the hardened revolutionaries that traditional Marxian revolutions, win or lose, created. So while the Frankfurt managerial termites killed Western organization and institution, they have no credibility to create replacements for them for the Brave New World. Essentially, they have become the brittle state ripe for a coup or popular uprising against them and incapable of getting the trust of the society to quash them.

Yup. The flaw in their plan is the same flaw that all communist systems share. They can take over, but their system doesn't work and you get, at best (if everyone is honorable and smart and competent and trustworthy and just and truly makes every effort, at all times, to work for the good of the people) ineffective and disastrous mismanagement resulting in failure. At worst you get killing fields and cadres slaughtering everyone who can read.

Too late. Bezos is basically proving that conglomerates do not work but instead consume profits that should be going to investors. Amazon makes most of its money from AWS computing--not entertainment and it appears that selling goods is taking a downturn in profit again. His Blue Origin seems mainly successful in pursuing lawsuits. At a certain point, retailers that get involved in other things would do better to split and spin off rather than consume profits in the pointless quest for synergy. A conglomerate investment structure like Berkshire can work if you leave the companies independent of each other but even Buffet's fabled touch seems to be relying more and more on government largesse than business acumen.

The CIA was specifically created to foment unrest in other countries in such a way to create plausible deniability during the Cold War. It was always the case that bureaucrats would find it much easier to simply do the same in their home country for power and profit.

The FBI similarly moved its target from criminals and espionage to political thought control with ease. It is far easier to create inoffensive criminals by making up crimes or enticing people to commit crimes via informants than to go after the real ones. A fellow could get hurt that way.

True. But it also provides a very big target.

Some might think all is lost and they are omnipotent but they don't seem to think so. They are that scared of what those documents show.

303 An expansion of the Verse for the Day: Luke 12 51-59 Verses 58-59 are particularly apropos.
'Do you suppose that I am here to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.
For from now on, a household of five will be divided: three against two and two against three;
father opposed to son, son to father, mother to daughter, daughter to mother, mother-in-law to daughter-in-law, daughter-in-law to mother-in-law.'
He said again to the crowds, 'When you see a cloud looming up in the west you say at once that rain is coming, and so it does.
And when the wind is from the south you say it's going to be hot, and it is.
Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the face of the earth and the sky. How is it you do not know how to interpret these times?
'Why not judge for yourselves what is upright?
For example: when you are going to court with your opponent, make an effort to settle with him on the way, or he may drag you before the judge and the judge hand you over to the officer and the officer have you thrown into prison.
I tell you, you will not get out till you have paid the very last penny.'

Essentially, until the GOP casts off its business outlook on politics, they are doomed to failure which is why McConnell's preferred Senate candidates make Trump's look principled. Mitt Romney cloud people clones are not a winning statewide candidates in most states.

The GOPe splitter strategy depends on hopeless candidates splitting the 'true conservative' vote so their preferred candidate wins.

Trump went with whatever Oz's flaws were--he would vote against McConnell which for the good of the GOP need to be gotten rid of. Article II, Section 1, Clause 5:

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, neither being bereft of a penis and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

You made that up. It doesn't say they have to be a natural born Citizen. See Obola.

The number one political objective for the voting GOP should be to rid themselves of McConnell. Whether that is simply neutralizing his impact, and that of his cronies which apparently includes Thune, Ernst, et al, or ensuring he is never leader again, it must be done. Even if Republicans gain the House and Senate, McConnell as leader will destroy any potential progress that can be made.

I heard someone very wisely posit the other day that once we are done with this midterm and get a new crop of candidates, we should start focusing on the next one and target the Republican cowards in Congress who have been hiding in plain view or will soon reveal themselves in a Republican majority. 379 Empires are doomed from the beginning-- Austria Hungary just took longer to decay than most of them.

The Hapsburgs took and Hungary Bohemia in the 1600s, making them an empire at that point even if nominally they were ArchDukes and mere elected Emperors. So they did last a long time...

381 The thing about "deal with it" and the idea that one should not respond to provocation is that, at some point, the "provocations" are now just SOP of active tyranny. My neighbors been jailed without trial? Better not respond to the provocation. My colleagues have been raided, their confidential, privileged papers seized? Better not respond to the provocation. Local parents have beena labeled terrorists for not accepting gently the rape of their children by the big tranny division of globohomo? Better not respond to the provocation. They raided the president's house? Better not respond to the provocation. I say, time to go Canadian trucker on these treasonous motherfuckers, and shut the whole thing down with a general strike.

385 Trump essentially isolated agencies like the CFPB by slashing their budget with Congress. Problem is, Congress, as usual, did not get rid of them and now they are back and part of the grotesque overreach. That is the danger of half measures and illustrated the need for a plan that does away with these bureaucracies forever.

Bohemia had a vicious internecine war between Protestants and Catholics and the Hapsburgs as defenders of the faith used faith as the unifier in the Empire including the defense against the Turks.

But faith of any sort and the necessities of politics are uneasy bedfellows as statecraft often involves messy compromises while faith can brook none without losing its own certainty. Like a chair joint, the glue weakens over time. Metternich, by sheer force of personality, probably prevented an earlier fall of the AH Empire.

Essentially, VDH makes his living off of selling books, working at Hoover, and possibly his columns. Literally so in cases like the January 6 political prisoners (and maybe far more).

Garland predictably took the coward's way out by hiding then predictably took the coward's way out again by playing victims and refusing to take questions.

I don't recall any officials refusing any questions in the aftermath of 9/11 - they were just as keen to find answers and prevent a recurrence as the rest of us.

If this situation is as dire as claimed then secrecy only hurts their case. But then, they have no case.
