Top Story

  • $15 well spent I'd say. (Towards AI)

For $15 the author got, well, see for yourself.

Most of the $15 was spent figuring out how to ask for what he she wanted, but that's kind of the deal in any artistic endeavour.

Tech News

  • The ThinkPad Carbon X1 Gen 10 is another thin-and-light laptop with the goods. (Thurrott.com)

12th gen Intel CPU, up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of SSD**, choice of displays up to a 3840x2400 touchscreen, dual Thunderbolt ports, dual USB-A, HDMI, and headphone jack. No microSD slot but at least with USB-A you can plug in a little adaptor.

Base model is more reasonably priced in Australia than the HP Pavilion Plus - the ThinkPad is currently on sale - but neither the 32GB nor 2TB options are available here.

  • Redis explained. (Architecture Notes)

Redis is not a database server, it's a data structure server. I wouldn't recommend it for permanent data storage (though you can do that, and I have), but for manipulating data before writing it to your primary database it is unrivalled.

  • The CDC says forget all that stuff we told you about COVID; we give up. (Ars Technica)

    Thanks guys.

  • Intel has dumped an estimated $3.5 billion into its GPU division so far. (Tom's Hardware)

It's my estimation that it will take the company five years to come up with a truly competitive product, which would likely mean spending another $3.5 billion. Industry analysts are 50/50 on whether the company is willing to commit to that.

Most of the benefit would be in the datacenter - accelerator cards for things like the dunking llama in the first item sell for far higher prices than desktop graphics cards. Do they need the volume side of the business to keep the effort afloat? I don't know. Should you buy a first-generation Arc graphics card? Absolutely not.

7 "On Thursday, the Food and Drug Administration separately advised that at-home COVID-19 tests can yield false negatives. For those who do not have symptoms but have been exposed to COVID-19, the FDA now recommends people take *three* tests, each 48 hours apart, to confirm they are not infected."

8 Morning again, all, and evening to Pixy,

My employer has at last admitted it's time to end the intrusive swab-up-your-nose testing. They *told* us it would be random, but it seems every month for the last year I got an email telling me to schedule a test. I ignored and deep-sixed every one. Nobody came after me. Apparently there was enforcement; they were depending on all of us being good little drones and trotting right off as soon as we were notified.

I ignored one, then a second. When nobody came after me, I made it SOP.

The guidance also de-emphasizes physical distancing as a primary mitigation effort. Instead, the CDC now says that people should consider distancing "just one component of how to protect yourself and others."

Everything is an Op.
Everything is bullshit.

Having said that, I think the baseline of all of this boils down to, the Junta/Deep State/Uniparty view Trump as illegitimate, full stop.

He is not to be afforded the honor, perks or deference that other former Presidents are granted.

He had documents they did not want him to have and by G-d he will will not have them, so they raided his home and took them.

There's a man made lake near me, 50 feet deep in some sections. Young girls like to go out on it in these skinny little paddle-boards while wearing skinny bikinis. Two, three, sometimes four girls per each paddle-board. Also, of course, taking their cellphones with them.

Some future civilization will eventually drain the lake and discover thousands of pink cell phones littering the bottom.

She is doing okay. The site of the treatment is tender, but should go away soon. (we've been told)
Now she is trying to get he BP meds regulated. He cardiologist put her on and additional med in early June that has slowly taken her BP too low. The only way she's been able to contact him is by phone and I don't think the guy is listening to her.
She saw he PCP yesterday and she had her make some adjustments.

Fingers crossed.

But, I'm not sure about it for a wedding.

I saw a survey question at offthepress dot com asking degree of concern about having armed IRS agents. 100% answered 'extremely'.

It's dumb and dumber and could get a lot of people, especially agents killed. The IRS can already destroy people lives, now you want them to be able to take their life, too?

It is one of the suggested readings for a wedding liturgy if it means that they plan to praise God and to pray to together. Certainly the sense of support in a Christian "community" is there, and IMO it's preferable to "1st Corinthians 13-which was addressed to church having infighting over who was spiritually "elite" and all is overused IMO . Since Phillipians is the "joy" letter and was written from a jail (well, we don't want marriages to feel like a jail. it is encouraging praising God in the midst of all circumstances and people married long enough will face all kinds of circumstances and need God..

159 SCIF = sensitive compartmented information facility

It's fedspeak for a place where top secret and more sensitive documents and info can be reviewed. It's electronically secure from the outside and may/may not be connected to it's own internal network which itself is supposed to be isolated from everything else. No phones or external devices are permitted in a SCIF and you typically have to be "on a list" to enter one with specific things you want to review.

178 Biden gifted his Senate Papers to his alma mater, the University of Delaware, in 2011 on the condition that they would be made public after his tenure as Vice President. However, the University of Delaware changed the papers’ release date one day before Biden announced his 2020 presidential campaign.

179 gooder and harderer!

With a population of about 41,167,300, Ukraine's civilian death rate is 13.12 per 100,000 people using official statistics from the United Nations.

The murder rates for several major U.S. cities are considerably higher than Ukraine's civilian death rate.

For example, Baltimore, which has a population of 576,498 as of July 2021 according to Census estimates, has seen 215 homicides so far in 2022, yielding a rate of 37.3 murders per 100,000 people.

St. Louis, with a population of 293,310 as of July of last year, has seen 112 homicides in 2022, putting the murder rate at 38.2 per 100,000.

180 "reports say she suffered a 'severe brain injury'"

Article basically ended with a statement of her interest in donating her organs.

And that her body is on life support long enough to determine if any of them are viable for donation.

An that is the sole reason that the machines are still keeping her body alive.

Classified documents relating to nuclear weapons were among the items FBI agents sought in a search of former president Donald Trump’s Florida residence on Monday, according to people familiar with the investigation.
Experts in classified information said the unusual search underscores deep concern among government officials about the types of information they thought could be located at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club and potentially in danger of falling into the wrong hands.

As a side note, it does support multi-set (submitting multiple items in one transaction) with dynamic TTLs for each item, but it's kind of a pain in the ass if you're working through most of the clients in Java.
