Top Story

  • AMD's Threadripper Pro 5000 series is finally available in retail. (Tom's Hardware)

Five weeks before Ryzen 7000 launches.

If you need the memory capacity (Threadripper Pro supports up to 2TB of RAM) or the I/O bandwidth (7 full x16 PCIe slots with room left over) then these chips make sense. There's certainly nothing from Intel to compete right now.

If you just want a faster CPU they're less compelling. The 24 core 5965WX is likely only 10% faster than the 7950X will be, and much more expensive.

2 Good evening, Pixy, and morning to the majority of you. For some reason August 9 rings in my memory as something personal. Oh! I bought the big Buick 3 years ago today! (Well, 8/8, but this was my first whole day with it.) It's been a fantastic car. Damned if I can understand why it sat on the dealer's lot for 2 months before I came along.

Well! It be time for shave and shower. Back later.

Melbourne Vaccine Education Center in January 2021:

Previous animal trials of experimental vaccines against SARS-CoV-1 and MERS-CoV have also been shown to induce a more serious disease when subsequently exposed to the virus.

Of course they had to destroy the evidence. For nearly 20 years they tried to find a vaccine that did more good then harm - but it never happened.

I'm thinking that number is pretty close to zero. If you're not already beyond rage, then any failure by the junta to "find anything" is the fault of the junta for not being diligent enough.

This is exactly the sort of delusional mechanism by which any political terror propagates.

I've never voted for a Dem in my life. I'm open minded about it but so far no Dem has put forth any policies that make sense. I once voted for an insurance commissioner in Kansas that was under indictment. Still a better option than the Dem.

Also, it'd be nice if voting Dem wasn't an existential threat to what was left of the Republic. My dad was a Dem in Texas, but everyone was. He didn't leave the party, it left him.

99 The Justice Department is investigating Donald Trump’s management of classified documents and the FBI raid Monday is a part of that probe.

The federal agency was tipped off earlier this year when the National Archives and Records Administration said it found classified materials in 15 boxes at Mar-a-Lago.

The other 50% will shake their fists, engage in social media frustration and do nothing.

Great patriots like Ted Cruz will propose medals of bravery be struck for the FBI agents who took on the dangerous raid on dangerous BadOrangeMan's house. Staunch constitutionalists like Kevin McCarthy will huff and puff and soil their Underoos threatening hearings if they win the midterms.

And the Dems will know they can arrest Trump and nothing will happen.

I know a ton of people like myself, who simply aren't going to lose much sleep over missing the opportunity to go "fight" for a guy that doesn't fight all that hard for himself, when push comes to shove. Donald Trump isn't exactly cut from the same stuff as Cliven Bundy.

Trump will do what he always does, make some scattered statements and delegate the rest to his lawyers. What, exactly, am I supposed to do about that ? Knock that 50% down to 45%, maybe 40%. Then I'll be in complete agreement.

It's safe in the bank. The Left is proving each day the failures of both the institutional Right's imagination and courage. It cannot imagine the Left's nature and designs, and moreover has no courage to arrest it if it did. To accept the Left for what they are is inherently beyond it, and moreover to do so would require a commensurate response (impossible for lack of courage). So we just keep reprising the same phony and deadening routine, but each time with the Left dialing the depredation further.

134 A cell phone is a radio, not a telephone. The government needs a warrant to tap a telephone (that is why it is called a wire tap) IT DOES NOT NEED A WARRANT TO LISTEN TO A CELL PHONE CONVERSATION because the law allows anyone to listen to any radio broadcast. 137 So what does the great undoing of America look like?

I am guessing it is a neo-social kleptocracy with just a hint of over policing the good people.

Policing of the bad has failed as while it starts with all the laws for all the people it always lands right in the middle of Person of Color communities.

Thus the IRS doubling, as the rich and famous have people like Arthur Anderson sign their tax bills and have lawyers on 911 standing by. This will bring a new level of policing down to divorcees and side gig workers to the point they quit and take whatever meager handouts are available.

Real GDP will drop about 6% (it will be sold as 1% a quarter) per year. Real jobs (40 hours/week) are ending at about 1 million per year (80k/month) and are 20 hour PT work.

Voting (R) or PDT will not fix this. There are millions of people with Big Govt jobs whos job is to hurt you and your family. It may be through a thousand paper cuts, but they will bleed you dry.

Now the only question is, do they do it before the midterms or after. At this point, the timing of his formal declaration to run doesn't matter to their decision.

If true, then Trump is a bigger fool than I thought, for not keeping such documents in a discrete location not even remotely linked to his name, until he was ready to use them.

What ? Did Trump think "they wouldn't dare ?". The Left always dares. There's not been any reason yet for them not to dare.

For the record, I don't think any such records existed at Mara Lago. They raided it as a message, both to him, and to those that support him.

148 Section 2071 of Title 18 of the USC makes it a crime to willfully and unlawfully conceal, remove, mutilate, obliterate, falsify or destroy government documents. Further this statue, upon conviction for violating it bars a person from holding any US office. However, the US Constitution sets eligibility for the presidency and impeachment as the only removal remedy.

Democratic lawyer Marc Elias stated the real purpose for the FBI raid on President Trump's home, "Yes, I recognize the legal challenge that application of this law to a president would garner. But the idea that a candidate would have to litigate this is during a campaign is in my view a 'blockbuster in American politics.'"

TLDR: Russian Collusion 2.0 but without the fake Russians. This raid was the opening salvo of a political circus, Roman Coliseum edition. It is not unreasonable to view that the US government is engaging in political terrorism to send a message to the public at large. The people and government agencies behind this are rotten to core.

And that's part of my point. The UniParty doesn't need any such pretext to raid Trump. Trump's existence, and insistence on running again, is all they need. That, plus his past performance. "We" did. All in the name of winning the Cold War, then the War on Drugs, then finally the War on Terror. Why do I keep banging on that point ?

Simple. Because I still, after all this time, get the distinct impression that if America gets a reset and a do-over, "we" will immediately start building up all these institutions again. Even though we've been shown, plainly, that those institutions can't be controlled.

Another reason to seriously consider Dell boxes is their service tag system. With that code you can log into your Dell account, register the code, and get a complete of set drivers and related software for that specific machine seemingly in perpetuity. This is most useful if you need to flatten a box a few years down the road. I haven't looked for a few years how other vendors handle driver and related software retrieval but in the past, it was pretty much a disaster.

So "We" applauded the idea and the hopes and aspirations of these various three-letter agencies. DHS and TSA was a hysterical response to a political opportunity. Same mentality that had people standing in line to get poisoned with the Clot Shot.

You can't help when sheep get spooked and run away from a perceived threat and into the "protection" of an evil shepherd.

Also, these agencies pull from the public their employees, they don't just hatch them in a secret incubator, so to some degree, these malevolent operators come from the culture at large. Neighbors throwing neighbors into the Lubyanka.

Look at how naive that was. That you can build a big bureaucracy, give them tools and rights not available to the common man, yet somehow they'll resist the urge to use those tools and rights for the betterment of themselves at the expense of those beneath them.

That is what I meant by "hopes and aspirations". Sort of like the "Clinton For Change" campaign bumperstickers where adding Hammer & Sickle clip art would dramatically alter the "change" eisegeted by people who would think positively about whatever "change" should be.

Hollywood sold "Us" that feds were young, attractive, energetic, pure, virtuous, holy, hard working people who would gladly sacrifice their lives to the protection of the least of "Us".

And "we" were stupid enough to accept this despite the copious empirical evidence to the contrary.

There is a lot to like about a generation or two behind hardware anymore. 20 years ago the hardware was changing so rapidly you needed to buy current generation devices because they went obsolete in a handful of years. Today, the delta between generations isn't that significant from a practical perspective. I also find the lower specified boxes, if selected with some care, are perfectly fine for the use case you outlined. I picked up a Surface Go 2 with the M3 CPU (think i3), after the new versions released, as my go everywhere box. It is a little pokey at times, a bit light on battery life but at the same time the build quality is top notch, and it fits in my bag perfectly. It has become one of my all time favorite machines.
