Yes, woke institutions really are that bad

ministry of truth approv.png

From Dr_No

We have seen a lot of stories lately about how our institutions are being taken over by radical ideologies. Today, a few updates, mostly concerning medicine and education. Nurture your personal relationships with people you trust, because as Russell Brand has said, the big institutions (in particular) are not your friends.

Outrages in Medicine

American Academy of Pediatrics

Last week, we reprised Muldoon's piece on the AAP, reviewed criticisms of a bogus paper in their flagship journal and discussed their refusal to allow pediatricians to comment on their position statement concerning care of children and adolescents with gender dysphoria, etc. in What is happening to the The American Academy of Pediatrics?

Update:

There are more comments on the bogus study above, which tried to discredit Abigail Shrier's work and the prior findings of other researchers. The lead author of the bogus paper is also a leading advocate of the idea that if kids who say they are transgender are not affirmed in their belief, they will commit suicide.

And via J.J. Sefton's Morning Report yesterday, physicians are getting around the AAP's refusal to allow commentary on their position statement on this issue during the designated comment period. Physicians are adding their commentary to the position statement on another issue. Heh.

And pediatricians are also "privately slamming" the Academy. Rumble, rumble, rumble.

A little revolt!

Hospitals and Clinics, Government

Yesterday, Ace posted this piece: Boston Children's Hospital Now Advertising "Gender-Affirming Hysterectomies" to Young Girls With a Cheerful-Looking Pitchwoman Who Looks Like She Could be a Mouseketeer

And it is shocking, indeed:

This is the worst thing I've seen in this madness, and I've seen a lot of terrible things.

Pass a federal law allowing people to sue their doctors and the hospitals at which they were performed for "gender affirming surgeries" through age 40:

Example of outrages are included, along with a mention of Brett Kavanaugh's would-be assassin.

* * * * *

Update:

Now let's check in with Pittsburgh:

Do these people know that the FDA just admitted that these drugs can make kids' brains swell and lead to permanent vision loss? Among all their other side effects???? Kids haven't decided on a gender yet? Maybe that's a clue that they really don't need the lifelong problems of a medical transition.

* * * * *

Update 2:

Ace's piece also made a brief mention of the decision by NHS England to shut down Tavistock, their only children's gender clinic. Ace may be interested in the details of the first impending class-action suit against the clinic. Ironic that this clinic was involved in anti-gay "conversion therapy".

Back in the USA:

Think the prospect of lawsuits will deter the California Refuge Law for kids seeking transgender treatment (even without parental permission)?

Wonder if the California legislature is aware of the anti-gay "conversion therapy" issue at Tavistock? There was a big crisis over "conversion therapy" in the California legislature not long ago. In a different context. There were questions like "Should bookstores be allowed to sell Bibles?"

Well, then, should schools be allowed to carry books that tell gay kids and tomboys that they are transgender? Should counselors and physicians be encouraged to continue in the current "if you are uncomfortable about anything related to your body or self-image you are transgender" approach?

Outrages in Academia

INDOCTRINATION

This morning in the EMT, Vic provided a link to this piece in his great news update: California Department of Education advocates books promoting gender transitions to kindergartners.

I have lost my reference, but I read today that all the books on the California reading list are from 2016 and later, while the Florida list contains many classics. Contrast!

Throwing out the classics in California schools also seems to me to qualify as a form of "book burning".

* * * * *

And individual districts can get in on the act, too: Los Angeles Unified School District adopts radical 'trans-affirming' programming and instructs teachers to work toward 'the breakdown of the gender binary.' By Chris Rufo.

Los Angeles Unified School District has adopted a radical gender-theory curriculum encouraging teachers to work toward the "breakdown of the gender binary," to experiment with gender pronouns such as "they," "ze," and "tree," and to adopt "trans-affirming" programming to make their classrooms "queer all school year."

* * * * *

Some deep academic thinking via the UK (may have originated in the USA):

* * * * *

Post-modernism and its associated "academic" (quote) variants as idea pathogens.

An example of "auto-ethnography" suitable for a "qualitative journal". A clear and low-key presentation, but may not be safe for work:

* * * * *

Ours may become the first civilization destroyed, not by the power of our enemies, but by the ignorance of our teachers and the dangerous nonsense they are teaching our children. In an age of artificial intelligence, they are creating artificial stupidity.
--
Thomas Sowell

Equity is very important in schools now. You can see a few results of this emphasis already:

equity kamala.jpg

The consequence of a political ideology that denies the obvious reality of human variation is either perpetual discontent or well-intentioned but ineffectual attempts to create equality of outcome whose failures inspire more and more coercion and more and more bitterness.

Does anybody *really* believe that humans have equal capacity? Does anybody really believe that I'm not Barry Sanders because of my environment? Or that Joe Biden is not a quantum physicist because he didn't read enough as a child? I doubt it, but I am not longer sure.

Bo Winegard

But if you don't say you believe it, you may be banned from teaching . . . .

Check the link. The Kamala quote above is real.

* * * * *

Once again,

Ours may become the first civilization destroyed, not by the power of our enemies, but by the ignorance of our teachers and the dangerous nonsense they are teaching our children. In an age of artificial intelligence, they are creating artificial stupidity.

28 Kids are supposed to "go through puberty", why do they give "puberty blockers"?

A study I recall but can't find asked kids about the trans thing (years ago, before it was cool). They asked the same questions a year later, with the same kids. About the same number had questions about their feeling more like the opposite sex (I forget the wording or ages, I think kids were asked at 13, then again at 14 or so).

BUT they were different kids that now questioned their sexual identity ... Anyway, that is my point about kids going THROUGH puberty, getting over some confusion introduced by the process. idk what the actual hormones are doing in the process.

43 It occurred to me the other day that Liberals have become the Galileo era Catholic church. The Pope knew damn well the Earth revolved around the sun. It wasn't about truth, it was about power. They don't want us to jump through these absurd hoops because they are objectively correct, they do it as a demonstration of power. Challenge them and risk excommunication.

It's no different than renaming buildings on a college campus or tearing down statues. They don't give a shit about historical truth or perpetuating anything. It's all just a demonstration of power.

And while we engage in debate and challenge them on an ideological level, real change will only come when these Marxist fuksticks are driven from positions of power. They have never been more powerful in terms of the positions they hold and we won't be safe until they are gone from the HR departments and the classrooms and all the other levers of power in society. It may be more important to win a million skirmishes at the lowest level than trying to swing 330,000,000 people to our side.

141 "Affirming" the illness of gender dysphoria has an insidious effect on the sufferer. It is an iron clad truth that one cannot change their gender. You can mutilate yourself. You can dress the part. You can assume the social role of the opposite gender. Actually being the gender other than what you were born as is impossible.

The "Affirmation" approach makes the sufferer believe that there is just some flaw, some imperfection in themselves, some shortcoming, or some external pressure that is standing in their way. If they only did X, Y or Z, or if person A, B or C weren't so awful, then they could really "be" what they want to be. But they can't, and they never will. This discordance can only lead to depression and, eventually, suicidal and self-destructive thoughts.

I am obviously not an expert in any part of this matter, but this appears to me to be so obvious as to not require any special expertise to understand.

they already clone, but imo from a spiritual side of it, they can't create new life. They have to start with life. Maybe they have to start with a living egg, then they have to add the equivalent of sperm?

All I've seen with the GMO stuff is they take a small segment of (living) DNA from one place and splice it into the DNA of their modified plant ... afaik they are not manufacturing actual DNA. And if they did ... would it be "alive"? I think life only comes from life (which began with God).

But they can make a lot of genetic modifications to make their super models or super soldiers ... the whole "transhumanism" thang is kinda scary.

First day of school for my youngest. She was being harassed by another kid. Her response: "If you keep doing that I am going to kill you". Principal called. I suggested it was an overreaction - clearly she wasn't intending to kill the other student. Principal was not amused.

Talked to my daughter about it later. She said "well that's what my brothers say to me!". I explained to her the difference between family and public.

Which means, every time a leftist claims they're getting death threats, we can call bullship. Because, among other things, we know that any time ANYONE claims the election was rigged or Covid is mostly hoax or the Trump raid was politically motivated, they find THAT person and ban them for life.

My point is that this has been going on for a long time, and it's interesting how women demanded that the feminine endings be taken off words as sexist and then find that men have less inhibitions about moving into their spaces.

Gosh, the titles are now the same, so who cares?

That's why it's important to stand firm and use the old forms of words because when you describe things accurately, the truth hurts.

Yes, but only if they want to.

Those of a certain age remember when committee chairmen wielded immense power because the budgets were done by department. Piss off the chairmen, oooh, you just got cut.

The reason why the GOP balanced the budget in the 1990s was they used this power.

Then they got the idea of taking graft and started doing "omnibus" bills because no one can go through them.

But they could go back to the old ways if they want to. If.

Over the past 2+ years of the Plandemic mask policies, I have refused to go anywhere mandating masks. Save for one time I really had a craving for Chinese takeout and the Michigan mask mandate was still being enforced back then (late summer of 2020 I think). Other than that one time, I avoided it for 18 months.

Over the past 8 months, the only time I have had to wear a mask is to go see my doctor once per month after my hospital stay and then to see my dentist. In both buildings - doctor office and dentist office - they are enforcing mask mandates. But I don't think anywhere else in Michigan has a mask mandate anymore.

So the places that should be following science - medical offices - are not. Idiocy.

I am currently being forced out of my job and we're being replaced by cheaper new contract hires, a lot of them from out of country. (I am extremely angry and full of anxiety about this.) Since my position can be done 100% virtual (which we have been doing since March 2020).

Virtual interviews have been going on for the past few weeks and I took a peek at the resumes attached to the meeting notices for the interviews my supervisor is having. The two I looked at were people from India. One of them was extremely impressive. 4 pages to this resume.

I asked my supervisor during our after-work get-together yesterday if the interviewees were as impressive as their resumes and he said... yeah, no. He did say one of them was, but most of the others, not so much. Also turns out that there is some 90-day notice policy in India. Cannot leave one job for another for 90 days from the day they accept the offer. So if my company makes an offer Monday, they could not start until November at the earliest.

We have important program milestones coming up in 2 weeks and then in October. My company management's plan for when they want to move me - the most experienced and knowledgeable person on the program? By October or at least by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, some of my colleagues on my program who are also being forced to move are going to interviews for other prospective positions in the company and they've told horror stories about how the people conducting the interviews are incompetent and can't even tell people what the job is about, what the responsibilities will be, etc. Management is just forcing people to move without having any semblance of plan for (1) what people will be doing in the new positions or (2) how to train up the new backfilled people or when the new backfilled people will even start.

Absolute clusterfuck, all being driven by high management.

376 I saw Michael Hayden sitting a few rows away from me on an Amtrak from D.C. to NYC a couple years back, during the first impeachment debacle. Hayden was on the phone much of the way for the three hour trip, sure that his importance would make his near seat mates not mind his noise. He's just as awful looking as his personality would suggest, ferret-like, smug, and pretty enthusiastic in his attempts to overturn the 2016 election. If I had been prescient enough I would have called him an insurrectionist.

Thanks. I would at least appreciate them being honest and telling me that. But my manager keeps selling me this bullshit that this is "a development opportunity". When I tell him I don't want it, and there's nothing he nor his manager can say to me to change my mind, he said "well, we're moving you". So now it's up to me to find a new position in the company that interests me.

But he refuses to be honest. Feeds me this BS that this is about my future and they want to get me to understand other parts of the vehicle. When I told him I have done that in my current position for the past 10 years, I don't need to go to another position to do that and have ZERO interest in ever moving up, so there is no reason to "develop" me, he just ignores me and claims "we value you as an employee and this is going to be good for you and good for the company". Right...

"The more we learn, the more confusing this gets," George Washington University Law professor Jonathan Turley told Fox News program Hannity. "....Did they relay this history to the magistrate? That, according to these sources, that the president had cooperated.

"I mean, the idea that he was subject to a subpoena, complied with a subpoena, didn't challenge it, voluntarily showed the storage room to the agents, followed their advice, secured it to meet their demands. All of that is hardly a basis for saying now we need to send in 40 FBI agents on a on a raid," he added.
