The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

"We are making plans for all sorts of contingencies across public services, particularly critical areas like health," Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Kit Malthouse

Quote II

“The FBI raid on Trump’s home tells us one thing. Failure is not an option. We must destroy the FBI. We must save America. I stand with Donald J. Trump,” Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ)

Quote III

Merrick Garland may very well still be working out his Mitch McConnell daddy issues but he’s also the puppet president’s puppet. The prime directive of this Democratic hive mind is to keep Donald Trump off of the ballot in 2024 because they know that he will destroy them. Stephen Kruiser

Quote IV

“I would much rather serve with Mikie Sherrill and Chrissy Houlahan and Elissa Slotkin than Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert, even though on substance certainly I have big disagreements with the Democratic women I just mentioned,” Rep. Liz Cheney (RINO-WY)

Quote V

“Not only did Reinhart make an ethically questionable move from prosecuting Epstein and his accomplices to representing them, but according to FEC records, Reinhart donated $1,000 to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign and another $1,000 to a pro-Obama PAC in 2008,” PJ Media’s Matt Margolis

After seeing the CIC in action and watching the Afghanistan withdrawal debacle, can you believe this assertion?

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has backfired immensely for Moscow. Instead of a quick defeat of Ukraine and a capture of Kyiv, the war has dragged on for almost half a year with bloody consequences. According to the Department of Defense’s own reports, Russia has suffered between 70,000 and 80,000 soldiers killed or wounded.

Although my father sold a different brand of vehicles, I always thought the IHScout was cool. It's making a comeback.

Scott Keogh, the incoming CEO of Volkswagen's new Scout brand, really loves old Internationals. In fact, he loves them so much that he attended Harvester Homecoming in Indiana this past weekend. It's an enthusiast event held at one of the company's old engineering facilities in Fort Wayne, and Keogh turned up to show his dedication to the Harvester hardcore.

VW acquired the rights to the Scout name in 2021 when its Traton truck unit was merged with Navistar, International's parent company. For the uninitiated, the IH Scout was a two-door off-roader made from 1961 to 1980, fighting against rigs like the Jeep CJ. VW confirmed plans to bring Scout back as its own off-road EV brand in 2026 with a pickup truck and a "rugged" SUV.

I didn't know this. But, I'm not surprised. Domino's Pizza can't make it in Italy. Whatever possessed them to think that was a Win-Win Pizza Dinner idea?

Just seven years after making its debut in Milan, Domino’s Pizza is saying arrivederci to Italy.

The fast food giant closed the last of its 29 stores on the Italian Peninsula after struggling to gain a foothold in the country, Bloomberg reports, with locals proving to be difficult to win over for the American chain.

The company’s exit from Italy was met with cheers on Twitter, where users mocked Domino’s for even attempting to establish a foothold in the homeland of pizza in the first place.

It's a monster. Kicks at dirt and says, "Never mind."

A recent sighting of the Loch Ness Monster turned out to be an escaped Alpaca going for a swim. When a long-necked figure was seen in the infamous waters people naturally assumed it was the mythical creature, but they were wrong.

It turns out a herd of the South American mammals had escaped from a nearby enclosure and had decided to go for a swim, and one, with it's neck protruding from the water, looked remarkably like the iconic shot of Nessie, as the Daily Star reports.

An image of an alpaca in the loch was shared on social media and people soon began making jokes about the situation, as one said: "Cue the Nessie sightings from the other side of the loch."

I am Woman hear me roar. Then the roaring stopped.

A senior woman who expressed discomfort regarding a trans-identified male in the women’s changing room at her local pool has been banned from using the facilities she frequented for over three decades.

Julie Jaman, 80, had been a guest at the YMCA-run Mountain View community pool in her small town of Port Townsend, Washington for over 35 years. Speaking to Reduxx, Jaman revealed that on July 26, she witnessed a trans-identified male using the female locker rooms at the pool, and became concerned due to the fact he appeared to be watching the little girls as they changed out of their bathing suits.

Most of the time I take issue with civil forfeitures. This is one of those instances I do not. I bet you won't see this on CNN.

Judge Orders Forfeiture of Michael Avenatti’s Jet, Purchased with Stolen Client Money and Seized in 2019

A federal judge today ordered the forfeiture of a jet Michael Avenatti bought with stolen client money.

The five-page order from Senior U.S. District Judge James V. Selna in the Central District of California provides 30 days for anyone other than Avenatti to request a hearing “to adjudicate the validity” of their claimed interest in the Honda HA-420 aircraft, originally valued at $4.5 million.

There are at least a few possibilities of that occurring, as Alexis Gardner, the client whose settlement money Avenatti used to buy the jet, already has a claim for it pending in a separate U.S. District Court action.

Is this a sign of good things? Maryland sees huge growth in Concealed Carry classes.

A new phenomenon in Maryland: packed houses for concealed carry classes

Under Maryland’s “may issue” concealed carry law applicants had to be able to demonstrate some sort of special circumstance that elevated them above the average citizen before they could be issued a license. After the Bruen decision striking down New York’s similar statutes was handed down, however, Gov. Larry Hogan instructed the state police to drop their “good cause” requirement, and we’re already seeing the impact.

In the weeks since, applications to the state police have soared 700% , and firearms instructors say they’re seeing a similar surge in interest for the training classes that are mandatory for anyone wanting to exercise their right to bear arms in public.

Quite the vacation. I Went To A Waterpark And All I Got Was This Lousy Flu.

On June 11, 2021, at least 21 people got sick with an illness caused by the Shigella bacteria. On June 18 that same year, another six were infected with norovirus.

The Wichita Eagle later reported that another 36 people reported illness, but none were confirmed to test positive for Shigella or norovirus.

The rare Shigella bacteria is only spread through nonhuman primates, the CDC said.

However, the only primate available for direct interaction at the park that June were lemurs, who are not known to carry the bacteria.

She lives in a gated fortress in the swamp. She doesn't give a rat's ass.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's (D-NY) district saw a 57% increase in major crime under her tenure, a new study found.

The district suffered massive increases in what the New York Police Department considers the seven "major" crimes of murder, rape, robbery, felonious assault, burglary, grand larceny, and grand larceny auto, a study by former NYPD inspector Paul Mauro found. Shootings went up by 47.05%, the study said.

"Let’s just say, with those numbers: Were she a precinct commander, she’d better have some answers for the chief of department," Mauro wrote in an opinion piece.

The former inspector dismissed anticipated criticism that the end of coronavirus lockdowns was the culprit for the increase because crime rates were consistently increasing while the lockdowns were underway. He tied the drastic increase to the $1.5 billion cut in funding for the NYPD in 2020, an effort Ocasio-Cortez spearheaded and lamented wasn't enough

If only she had Sous Vide. Genius Award Winner 1st Runner Up.

AUGUST 9--A Florida Woman is facing a domestic assault charge for allegedly throwing a raw steak at her partner during a confrontation Sunday night in their residence.

Police say Rochelle Wright, 42, and the male victim were “involved in a verbal argument and were intoxicated” when the uncooked meat went airborne. Wright and the man, cops report, have been together for 20 years and are the parents of a juvenile.

According to a criminal complaint, Wright “became angry at the victim” while he was seated in a chair inside the family’s home in Tarpon Springs, a Tampa suburb. Wright, investigators allege, “subsequently picked up the steak and threw it at the victim.”

The meat, however, missed its mark. Instead, the steak struck the victim’s chair and a nearby wall. When questioned by police, Wright reportedly copped to the meat flinging, saying she was “tired of his behavior and their arguing.”

And finally another Florida resident who is tonight's Genius Award Winner.

Man released from Pinellas jail tried breaking into 3 sheriff’s office vehicles on grounds
He had previously been arrested on a drunken driving charge after rear-ending a car on Ulmerton Road.

15 If conservatives keep pointing out the hypocrisy and inconsistency of the Democrat led application of law and prosecutorial discretion, I feel 100 percent certain Democrats will say "I hadn't really thought about it. i suppose that's rather unfair. We should stop doing it."

Then they will constrain themselves from such activities in the future and things will go back to normal.

I'm counting on that being the solution to the problems we are seeing.

64 This is Flaming Skull stuff, but it got bigfooted by The Raid at MAL:

WA-3:

Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (RINO; impeacher; Wicked Witch of the West) conceded tonight to GOP challenger Joe Kent (MAGA; scientist and saint!).

This is perhaps the greatest long shot upset since David knocked out Goliath in the first round.

The RINO "Impeachment 10" are now 2-8 (assuming Cheney loses next week; what we call a "safe bet" that).

From watchin' my TV
Been checkin' out the news until my eyeballs fail to see
I mean to say that every day is just another rotten mess
And when it's gonna change, my friends, is anybody's guess

So I'm watchin' and I'm waitin'
Hopin' for the best
Even think I'll go to prayin'
Every time I hear 'em sayin'
That there's no way to delay that trouble comin' every day

The TravelAll was quite a beast, featured way back in National Geographic as a great off road vehicle. I think the darn body was made of cast iron, no plastic anywhere.
Basically I drove it into the ground, but it was a fantastic utilitarian multi-passenger truck with horse trailer towing capability which was much used.

The XO decided to shift gears and we sank axle deep in the sand. The Jeepers pulled us out, scolded us, then decided to go make a run up the Loup River bed. The Loup was the same thing: lots of sand and a trickle of water. Once more we were told not to stop, once more the XO decided to shift gears, once more we sank into the sand, and once more the Jeepers pulled us out. We never wet Jeeping with them again.

I'm no fan of the CDC but this statement is frank BS. CDC site mentions nothing about non-human primates. Shigella is spread via direct contamination by person to person contact, drinking/eating contaminated food/water, hand-to-mouth (e.g. changing a diaper and inadvertently touching your mouth. Any contact with feces can expose you to Shigella. Waterparks, daycare centers are well known sources of community outbreaks. Also anal sex can be a source.

To remind of what many of us have been saying, the cheating in 2020 took place in 6 critical cities, and those 6 cities were able to swing 6 states and swing the electoral college. Milwaukee, Atlanta, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Baltimore. They were the worst. California doesn't count because the entire state has built fraud into the system, but that is now taken for granted.

Point is, you can swing a presidential election that way, but you can't swing 435 individual races across 50 states that way.

294 One of the lessons from the Joe Kent saga is that if you live in a state that does mail-in voting, VOTE LATE.

JHB seemed to be comfortably ahead on Election Night, but the late ballots broke largely for Kent. (In Washington, you only have to have your ballot postmarked by Election Day.)

If you vote late, it makes it harder for them to determine how many votes to steal.

296 My friend in HS had a 61 Scout. I had no idea that wax the first model year.

We loved it, in its 25 year old majesty at the time.

They were terrible rust buckets though. I have no idea how his survived.

3 speed 4 cylinder? It was 4wd with locking hubs.
Posted by: TexasDan at August 09, 2022 10:09 PM (yw6lL)

The original Scout was a good idea, badly executed. Bodies rusted readily, and they and the frames suffered stress cracks, big time. The 4 cylinder engine was half of the 304 V8, and was neither light nor economical. The Scout II, which succeeded it, was a much better vehicle, but they were still a fuel hog.

I still have an early Scout chassis sitting on my place; it makes a good storage rack for rear axles and mufflers.

Reading that article on the 80 year old banned from the YMCA...okay, so she didn't like a grown ass man dressed like a woman staring at little girls undressing. So...bigotry! Naturally.

It's like the Loudon County rape case. The first victim's parents were fashionably leftist and soooo "tolerant" they let their daughter befriend a clearly mentally disturbed boy with the result being he raped her in the girl's restroom.

So tell me. Exactly how many little girls have to be raped before society realizes that this shit is just a really fucking *bad* idea? How many innocent children will have to be sacrificed on the altar of their malevolent ideologies?

It's fucking incredible. When Biden was VP, he was admonishing parents to teach their young boys to not rape. What are we doing now? Incentivizing sick fucks to rape. The feminists raving about "rape culture" was fucking tedious back then...and that was just seven or eight years ago!...but what is the left *spit* building now? A fucking rape culture. No shit.

At least with Grammy banned from the YMCA her hands will be clean when that fuck is founds balls deep in an 8 year old. She fucking warned 'em!

361 I'm not gonna do any soldiering in the burning times.

Targets of Opportunity though, might bear consideration. "Opportunity" being defined as a reasonable certainty of making a clean getaway. Urban and most suburban climes are right out, being camera infested jungles of traitors, karens and cowards.

What else might describe "opportunity" I'll not type here. It's for me to know, and *they* might find out? But really..all in all, I'd prefer to die of olde age in my recliner, and not sweltering or freezing in the fields, playing soldier geezer.

364 The pretext is a fucking NARA search. Not a search for specific incriminating documents, a search for National Archives docs.

OTOH, Obama refused to turn over a lot of his Presidential papers to the National Archives. Looking forward to the simultaneous raids of all of Obama's

We're dancing precariously close to WWIII and few seem to care. I'm pretty tired of stating the obvious so I don't bother anymore.

My entire town has been a military installation since before the United States was a country. We've been fortunate for a long time but fortune is wearing out because we squandered it. The idea that war can't come here seems very stupid to me. It will, just a matter of when.

1. Liz Cheney does NOT need money after she gets drop kicked out of Congress next Tues. Her father used to be CEO of Schlumberger (oil services) before he was VP. I read somewhere that his net worth is somewhere north of $150 million... and he's older than dirt, too.

2. Murkowski will be orders of magnitude harder to beat than Rep. Herrera Beutler was. Thanks to AK's peculiar "ranked choice voting" system, which basically gives DEMs three bites at the apple.

3. Neither Liz Cheney nor Rep. JHB can run as an independent.

https://tinyurl.com/5dp9exf6

"The Day After" is an American television film that first aired on November 20, 1983, on the ABC television network. It was seen by more than 100 million people during its initial broadcast and is currently the highest-rated television film in history.

The film postulates a fictional war between NATO forces and the Warsaw Pact that rapidly escalates into a full-scale nuclear exchange between the United States and the Soviet Union. However, the action itself focuses on the residents of Lawrence, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri, as well as several family farms situated near nuclear missile silos.

//Teacher praying mondale wins the next year

No ma'am, what is scary is how rosy a story you are painting for them....right over that hill is the runway for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base the nation's largest military airlift command post, and overflow base for the Strategic Air Command, it is still a top twenty target down from when it was a top five. We will be targeted by no less than five warheads in all probability given Soviet targeting deficiency with a mix of air and ground bursts. The bad news is that everyone within 36 miles of that airfield will be dead within 3 months of detonation....

The good news is we are inside the thermal vortex and overpressure field so we will be rapid cooked and in the upper atmosphere.

No, Chevy (and others) actually sold "Suburban cars" in the late '30's. Basically big station wagons on a pickup chassis. Station wagons originated as vehicles kept at the country home to pick up the family when they alighted from the train from the city. Typically driven by a chauffeur or a house servant at the country place.

458 Ilhan OMAR Primary Results in MN.

Ilhan Omar held on in her primary and will likely win in November. Don Samuels, an older, traditional, black civil rights leader and former councilman (from way back when Minneapolis was still sane) lost his primary challenge.

Mr. Samuels was one of the people that sued Minneapolis to hire the number of Police required by the Minneapolis City Charter. The city fought all the way to the MN Supreme court which actually told the city it has to follow their charter and hire 200 more police officers! He also successfully fought against the City Charter Amendment that would have abolished the Minneapolis police. Mpls has about 550 police, they had 950 a few years ago.

Ilhan Omar won by approximately 55,000 to 52,000 votes. There is no doubt she will win her reelection in November. MN-5 is a deep blue district.

My bet is when the votes are analyzed, Don Samuels won the black vote, but Omar took the Affluent WHITE Female Liberals. The AWFL don't have to deal with the daily crime (yet!).

461 Because why not

This week in 1944, VI Corps is preparing to leave Italy for southern France as part of Operation Anvil.

From the EZ Dog Journal, my dad's WWII diary, hangovers for all:

Aug 6
In the greatest American advance of the war the 1st Army cut the Brest finicula and pushed elements west into the outskirts of Brest and east and northeast twenty miles from Rennes. The beauty of this advance is that only two armored divisions are being used, leaving all our infantry divisions free to maneuver for a blow when resistance stiffens.
The section threw a party tonight - complete with drinks, gals and orchestra - - ostensibly a promotion party for Davis, Lemley, Boyett and Taylor. A couple of Lt Cols had to be “poured” out early, but the rest stuck around till 1:30 and had quite a nice time.
Aug 7

473 Ha! Actually Kokura ("the luckiest city in Japan") was saved by weather - or, as is now believed, and ironically, the smoke from fires caused by a bombing mission on a nearby target the day before.

But really the Nagasaki mission was a fairly wild series of mishaps and problems - especially considering the incredible level of maintenance, support, training, and quality of personnel involved.

Reserve fuel line blockage, detected during pre-flight, with engines running. Sweeney got out and talked to Tibbetts, who said because of weather forecasts*, they couldn't scrub, had to go. Then the effing photo plane orbits at wrong altitude for meet-up (for Hiroshima the planes formed up at Iwo Jima, simpler geometry to that mission), and Sweeney burns fuel waiting. Then the visibility problem at the primary, Kokura. Then - oops - Nagasaki's socked in, too. Then (my belief) they just dumped the bomb outside of mission orders (visual targeting only). Then Bock's Car landed with less than 2 minutes of fuel left, at Okinawa. It's a wild story.

* there was also the imperative and strategy of 2 quick nuke missions to convey impression to Japan that we had many bombs ready

The Hennepin County Attorney Primary was a 7 person shitshow. The DFL endorsed female winner used the words Equity and Police Reform at least twice in her short 15 second soundbite. Yeah, we've always had a nasty streak of Leftists among us - but that's for way different reasons than why the majority vote Dem. The reasons for that are very dumb, and largely boneheadedly tribal. Sorry, not sorry. Much of it boils down to living in the past, and sometimes *WAY* in the past.

Though, I did know one old Jewish man who had a good reason for it. He said he voted Dem in his particular neck of the woods (PA) because "they're good for business."

Now, that might sound crazy, but this guy was in a shady corner of the world. He meant that Dems could be trusted because of all the old family relationships, and unlike Republicans, they could actually control things on the government side in Pittsburgh, because they had the judges. Simple stuff, just the cost of doing business.

That all sounds startlingly familiar, right? The rest of American industry outside of the Mafia eventually caught on to the same idea.

Every time I hear bangladesh I laugh. I was on a cruise once, and was in the cigar bar. It was after diner, formal night actually, so one of the dudes in the group was sitting there in his white tux, and purple tux slippers. It was a bit of culture shock to me, because I just smoke the damn things, not into the whole frigging ritual. The dude working the room comes over with a plate, and tux dude says tells me to give him the cigar. Plate dude walks away. I say to tux dude, where is he going? He says oh he's going to prepare your cigar. I said for what, space travel? Where the fuck is my cigar? Oh he's going to warm it. Warm it? Its a cigar, not a hot pocket. Anyway, he orders us 2 glasses of some expensive booze, we lit the cigars, and tux dude is just sitting there hitting the cigar, sitting back on the leather couch, looking at the ceiling, and not saying anything. Like 2 minutes go by, he sits up, elbows me and says "They ain't doing this in bangadesh, I'll tell you that"

You're a gentleman rocker, I'm a gentleman bullshitter, Weasel is a gentleman rifleman. Publius is a Gentleman Farmer, in the mold of the Founding Fathers.

Founding Fathers are not banned, unless the banner is King George III ?

595 I emailed publius, yes he is banned. Apparently he was upset about the raid on Trump and said some inflammatory things about raising DC to the ground. Go figure.

Hope this is temporary. An intemperate remark late at night after the gestapoFBI raided Trump should not be grounds for a permanent ban IMO.

I didn't even tell the part about the special gas in the lighter. I pulled out my bic lighter to light the cigar. People were looking at me like I was ready to take a bite from a shit sandwich. "Noooooo, gotta use this lighter, it got special gas, no impurities. Either that or a wood match."" Riiiight, I got my wood match in my back pocket next to my fucking oil lamp and boot spurs. Damn, I just wanted to smoke a cigar.

623 Domino's pizza isn't great but it's better than any pizza I ever had in Italy - Florence, Rome, Naples and points in between. I tried maybe 15 times before concluding that Italian pizza is scheisse. Thin crust burned on the outside edges, soggy in the middle, weird "tomato" sauces and a complete cheap-ass chintz out on toppings.

625 86 I don't de-lurk for much, but an EV Scout makes me want to vomit in rage... Scouts, Travel-alls were no-nonsense trucks. EVs are the EXACT oposite... my Grandpa had 2 or 3, loved 'em, loved 4-wheeling in 'em. This makes me sad...

Posted by: tRusty Hudson
______

Agreed. My grandfather also had a Scout he loved and they've always been kind of special to me. No-one who actually loved the Scout would do something horrible like trying to turn it into an "off-road EV" brand. The inevitable failure of that absurd concept is likely to kill the brand deader than dead.
