| Guardian Cat Cafe![]() Ghost sculpture at Castle Vezio, Italy Don't Look Now. San Francisco, 1906, four days before the earthquake. Color and sound added. Idiot tourists trap an adult male orangutan on the path between them. Fortunately for them, the orangutan had more sense than they did and walked away.

Joe Kent has taken the lead in WA-03. There is little reason to believe that he will lose that lead without some blatant cheating to dump fake votes into the system, which will be hard at this point. He has been gaining ground on same day votes, which is where Kari Lake's victory also came from.
So looking like my predictions from a week ago Monday are looking solid now. Masters and Lake won in AZ, Dixon and Gibbs won in MI, Schmidt won in MO, and looking like Kent will get the second spot in WA-03 and Beutler will lose her seat. Only thing that I was wrong on was the KS abortion question. Posted by: Dave in Fla at August 08, 2022 08:56 PM (5p7BC) 60

Amazing Joe Kent pulled that out. McCarthy and the rest of the GOPe went all out to save Beutler on this one. The NRCC spent heavily for her, and the 3rd candidate was put up specifically to split the anti-GOPe vote. She even sent out mailers claiming Trump endorsed her.
Lot's of dirty tricks pulled in this election. I'm just a bit surprised they couldn't find 1000 votes of insurance somewhere. Seems odd to me that 10 days of counting ends up with the Trump candidate edging out the incumbent. Unless the election officials think that Kent gives the Dem a chance to win, but that is unlikely in this district. The Dem's best shot was against Beutler, because a lot of Republicans were not going to vote for her period. Posted by: Dave in Fla at August 08, 2022 09:15 PM (5p7BC) 134

No, that's not true. The Dems think Kent will be easier to beat and they think Perez can do that. That's why they didn't put the cheat on for Jamie.
Posted by: Notsothoreau ----------- Except Perez polls better against Beutler than against Kent. There were a lot of Republicans that were not going to show up at the polls in November if Beutler was the nominee. Probably would have actively voted for Perez just to punish Beutler. Not impossible, but not plausible, that the unprecedented act of a raid on living former president's residence was *not* approved all the way up the chain.
Recall the discussions surrounding the (outrageous, scandalous, transparently corrupt) non-investigation of Hillary's massive years-long Espionage Act crime wave on the 7th floor of State? DOJ and FBI have developed informal guidelines over the years to try and avoid acting when such action would have electoral consequences (things like announcing investigations close to elections, etc). But the FBI physically raids a former president's residence without the FBI director, AG, and WH knowing and approving???? Of course, as always, my basic framework may be irrelevant, based as it is on how things generally were in the US most of my life. Olivia in Concert is a 1983 home video release of a concert by singer Olivia Newton-John. The concert was taped at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah on October 12 and 13, 1982, during Olivia's Physical Tour. She was in her prime. What a crappy day. I went out to feed the horses more hay at noon and my 27 yr old board horse was colicking. He was rolling and up, walk 10 yards and down again so I got some Banimine in him and called the vet clinic and his owner. He scared me in April with similar behavior but was cured by a dose of Banimine, plus some extra drugs from the vet to be thorough and then a month of sand clear. But today he stopped showing really obvious pain but was visibly not right an hour after my dosing and the vet found his colon was displaced on a rectal. Vet went and ran some errands while owner came to say good by. He got to feeling good for a bit and was munching and soaking up attention but the pain was pushing through the drugs as the final good byes were said, which at least helped erase any doubts that helping him across the rainbow bridge was the correct choice. Still sucks.

So, it turns out that Trump was not even at Mar-Lago at the time of the raid - which is bad for the judge if the supposed warrant was issued because there was deemed a possibility that the target would physically destroy criminal evidence.
But, of course, we all know that's not why the raid was permitted. Never-the-less, there is less and less evidence that the judge had any reason to order it in the first place. Posted by: Boswell at August 08, 2022 09:37 PM (+Cgut) 251

By the way - if a higher court finds that the warrant was issued under false or misleading premises - that there was never any reason for the court that issued it to believe the target was engaged in an ongoing criminal enterprise, or that the target was reasonably believed to flee with evidence, or that the target was going to destroy evidence relevant to a criminal investigation unless intervention happened - then evidence gathered on an unauthorized and illegally issued warrant is inadmissible.

283 By the way - if a higher court finds that the warrant was issued under false or misleading premises - that there was never any reason for the court that issued it to believe the target was engaged in an ongoing criminal enterprise, or that the target was reasonably believed to flee with evidence, or that the target was going to destroy evidence relevant to a criminal investigation unless intervention happened - then evidence gathered on an unauthorized and illegally issued warrant is inadmissible.

This sounds like a little thing but it's pretty important. The President of the United States is the one person who has right to declassify any document he or she wants. From Bigfeet to space aliens to corruption in the US government. By definition, anything he or she has in their possession that they have declassified is NOT classified information. Some of us were waiting after Trump lost for the thousands of documents he said he declassified regarding Russia collusion to be released and they never were because the Deep State fought it. An epic example of the ghostly picture at the head of this post can be found at the Goldwell Outdoor Museum at Rhyolite, NV. In particular, I am speaking of Szukalski's Last Supper. In his work he recreated DaVinci's last supper by covering his pals in canvas and the plaster. From that he created the final fiberglass models which currently sit on display at the museum. My takeaway photo of this installation is nothing like you have ever seen.

A moment of perspective. In the great battle between Nixon and Congress not once was the FBI called in to raid the President. Today, a dispute that should have been started with a request by the Archival agency to comply and then escalated to a lawsuit if not satisfied was immediately escalated to FBI jack boots kicking in the doors of President Trump's private residence. The only reason for this is to sow terrorism of the federal government in the general population. All is upside down. President Trump is not the threat; it is the current people in control of the Federal government of whom we should be terrified. The Federal government is at war with the population. God help us.

And btw - don't forget all these people crying about "insurrection" were gleefully calling themselves "The Resistance" right up until January 5th 2020.

A good percentage of those folks would see their vow as one to protect the deep state from MAGA
* Yep. NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, etc. aren't mega TV reporting entities for nothing. And they're effective at their mission. Posted by: Moron Robbie - Gas demand is below pandemic levels at August 08, 2022 10:11 PM (tAFR1) 376

Moron Robbie, you are wise beyond your years. I am done for the night and will hit the rack, hopefully sleep, and wake up ready to stand in.

Yes, and I'll give you a good reason. Once you've reached this point you're not appreciating the taste any longer, so move to something lower on the shelf.

Ha. Remember this time in 2020 and thinking things could only get better once we got out of that silly COVID hiccup?

Believe it or not, it's a little bigger than that. It's WWIII. The opening shot was officially fired in late 2019 in the form of a bioterror attack on the world, and the subsequent Guiding Hand that has followed. It's the globalists vs everyone else...
Posted by: ... at August 08, 2022 10:09 PM (dscaa) Yes. Someone on another thread reminded me of the Japan assassination which I'm embarrassed to admit I'd already forgotten(!). If I'd read this in early 2019, I would have laughed. Not any more. Posted by: DaisyB at August 08, 2022 10:14 PM (AbL8c) 381
That presupposes several judges being solid in their support of English and logic. You have presupposed too much.
Posted by: irright at August 08, 2022 10:05 PM (NTUk0) Okay - civil society has broken down somewhat, I get it - but we're not at the point where we're killing neighbors in the streets in order to eat. Law enforcement is still happening...yeah, not like you and I would like or average citizens really need. But I haven't witnessed bludgeoning of dog walkers in front of my house or cops shooting grandma coming out of the Stop and Shop for fun and target practice...let's get a grip. Am I alarmed by current trends? - you bet. But I see commenters suggesting Zombie apocalypse...you have do time. And things are happening on the local and state level that will help...a lot of MAGA folks are getting in where it counts...not everything is national politics. * Ha. I'm a cheap date, but I know after my first tumbler of anything that it's stupid to stay with the good stuff, especially since I usually don't finish the second glass. (Benchmark is often my second glass btw. Cheap but pretty good) Posted by: Moron Robbie - Gas demand is below pandemic levels at August 08, 2022 10:15 PM (tAFR1) 383
