Porto & Lisbon are two hidden gems. Seafood, wine are great; prices dirt cheap and people are nicest in Europe. The middle of the country is great also. Spring & Fall best time to go. I try to get there once a year if I can swing it. Posted by: JoeNYC at August 01, 2022 07:56 PM (sX15q) 8

Nice photo up top.
The next link down, I am always fascinated by historical movies or photos that are colorized well. I remember (and I have the DVD somewhere) where it is a color movie from the 30s at some rally for the Nazi's in Austria (a Party celebration.) I remember the effect is both to make it feel more real, but also... it looks so tawdry. Garish. Not sure I am using the right word. Tacky? If you like port, hit the Port Wine Museum, at the top of the funicular. Hundreds of ports by the glass, deep leather couches. For dinner, just wander around the upper town, where the slow street cars are, find a neighborhood restaurant. Have their cod special, with their own wine from their countryside fazenda. Can't go wrong. If you have time during the day, walk around the al-Fama, or tour the convent and the tower near the port. Posted by: rhomboid at August 01, 2022 08:06 PM (OTzUX) 45

Shaun King’s social justice PAC is going to the dogs. Literally.
Grassroots Law PAC, which the progressive grifter founded to elect soft-on-crime local officials, paid roughly $40,000 since December to the California-based Potrero Performance Dogs, according to campaign finance disclosures. The payments are labeled for “contractor services,” making their purpose difficult to discern. But days after a $30,650 payment in February, King welcomed a “new member of the King family”: an award-winning mastiff bred by Potrero named Marz. Mouseman story
Setting: Summertime, home, alone, bedtime, dog downstairs in crate. About 2:30am I hear a thump and then what seemed to be noise in the back hall. I groggily get out of bed, only to hear louder scrabbling and now think there's an intruder in the house. Of course my weaponry is on the third floor, so I retire to the bathroom and lock the second set of doors. I try to dial 911, but I have so much adrenaline pumping through my body, I can hardly hit the buttons. No sooner had I hung up on 911 then about five squad cars come racing up in silent mode, but lights flashing. I get a call back from the police asking if I can come to the door. I reply that I still hear movement in the house, and no I'm not coming down. (cont.) Posted by: browndog Official Mascot of Team Gizzard at August 01, 2022 08:36 PM (BgMrQ) 152

I answer the door (forgetting that I'm only wearing boxers) to find 4 female officers that responded to the call. They try not to laugh at me too much, and ask permission to check out the house. Finding nothing unusual, they put about to leave, only to hear loud scrabbling in the 2nd floor hallway. Now guns are drawn and they rush up the front and back stairs in hopes of catching the perp. A hot minute later they all reappear in the front hall holding a mousetrap with a mouse under the bar, but not dead. My old apartment attracts bats occasionally. First time one got stuck flying circles in my office was spooky as hell. I didn't make sense of that weird shadow in the corner of my view until the third or fourth pass, and then it took a few seconds to register that that it was a real bat, then I dove under my desk.
