Ha, I had a German professor in grad school who was ex- Luftwaffe. He had a face like an avenging eagle. Wore a white lab coat while lecturing at the chalk board.
He would hand out "take-home" tests that we had two weeks to answer. The problems were so hard that most people never got solutions to all of them.
On the Monday morning they were due, he would stand very upright in class and say "Your papers, please". I was one of two Americans in the class, the other guy and I used to laugh about this all the time but we were actually terrified of the guy.

The BEST organic professor I had in college had BRUTAL exams. Absolutely insane questions. Usually only one or two over 90% out of a class of 400 people. So it was not impossible, you just had to really understand the material and be able to apply it. I learned a lot from that guy.
As a side note, I also had him for a organic lab. During one of the practicals, he was explaining the test questions and it was some arcane and very involved question about FTIR and I blurted out 'Oh Fuck you XXXX.' A bit too loudly. Everyone laughed, including the professor.
He is/was a good guy.

Thanks, I do feel better than I did. No answers, other than we have ruled out any kidney issues. I need to get a colonoscopy (YAY!!), but it's taking forever to get on the books, which I guess is okay, doc doesn't think I'm dying or have anything serious. Mostly I'm feeling better due to diet changes I've made that are helping keep everything moving.

I spent many years in SAC. We frequently had inspections or evaluations of our nuclear operations. Lots of stuff to work on. The last "instruction" of each inspection was "xxxx AFB is destroyed in a nuclear attack". Ground zero exactly.

When I had colonoscopy I struggled on the table in my stupor, and, in recovery, the nurses were checking my blood pressure every few minutes for hours until the dope wore off!
I never was told what went wrong but I remember parts of the adventure... (I did read the report which simply remarked "the procedure was completed with moderate difficulty due to the patient's anxiety" -- !!)

Just my two cents, but I think people are far too casual about invasive procedures and anesthesia. In a small percentage of "routine" procedures, something will go wrong. Small risk, but someone has to be the sorry bastard who encounters it.
Mother of a close friend went in for routine knee procedure not along ago. She was otherwise pretty healthy for her age. Had some kind of autoimmune response that destroyed her lungs. At least that's what they think happened. Her funeral was lovely.

I did once have to have a medical procedure that involved my fartclam (not a colonoscopy, some sort of x-ray scan). The lab tech walked in to start the procedure and it turned out I used to work with her at Subway a few years earlier. Kind of awkward...

I have had cancer surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. I only did it because my youngest was in 8th grade. Now my boys are in their 20s and self sufficient.

My brother is an Ace at that. One day he pissed his wife off in the car. It was hysterical. She would change the station, and he would automatically ruin the tune with lyrics he had already mastered from previous listening over time. She would change the channel, he would ruin it, she would change it to a different song, he would ruin it again. I see that look on your face became I see my dick in your face, and so on. The final straw was when she switched the channel and that stupid bonjovi song comes on. The line "I play my part, and you play your game" became "I cut a fart and I shot a flame.". This includes graphic, disgusting images, of penile "oedema" (Brit spelling) and "purulent discharge". Also proctitis is common. There are also oral manifestations being seen.
Warning, what you see here can't be unseen. It's pretty disgusting. But it's a good cautionary tale of what happens when you stick your dick in places you shouldn't.

Damn good info. One of those USDA canning manuals was still stored in the original mailing envelope. It was addressed to an old Route, Box address that was before I was born. I remember one such address as a child, but this one was before that. Same place, they just added routes as the number of customers increased.

But now is definitely is the time to get a garden going (yes, there are indoor setups), beef is flooding the market now, so this is a good time to buy now and make jerky, and can it, as well as freeze it. Next year, beef prices are going to be in the stratosphere.

Yes, we have a vacuum sealer, and jerky in freezer bags in the freezer last for quite a long time.
Storage depends on fat and salt content of the jerky.
I use use all kinds of cuts, especially now that our butcher is sealing prime cuts cheaper, due to the influx of beef flooding the market due to the drought in a lot of the US, mainly Texas.

I got into pressure cooking a few years ago, cooking for the old folks.
Stove top pressure cookers are a standard 15 psig. However, all the pressure canning recipes and procedures are based on 10 psi.

Pressure cookers are very safe. And that's not Fauci/Pharma "safe" either, but actually safe. Some of the horror stories you here come are old, and come from very old, "first generation" pressure vessel tech.
Safety features. Blowout plug. That's a little plug on the top of the lid that will blow out if pressure exceeds some set point above rated. Second, the main gasket itself is designed to blow out if is somehow the blowout plug fails and pressure continues to rise.
The only time that will ever be an issue is if you fill it too full, with "foamy" stuff. That can plug up the little "jiggler" (weighted regulator) port. While not impossible, it's very, very rare.

A rough rule of thumb is pressure cooking at 15 psig reduces cooking time to a 1/3. That's very rough. Some things will cook much, much faster. I experimented with cabbage in a pressure cooker one time. Obliterated it to mush in short order.
Making squash, I learned basically, you bring it to pressure, then cool it down immediately. Mashes up nicely.
Miley tells me us Southerners cook our vegetables to death. Green beans are example. Under pressure, about 12 mins. Miley likes to cook her a batch of green beans "al dente" as she likes 'em every now and then.
I've actually pressure cooked corn the cob. 3 minutes under pressure, and it's done. 12 minutes in boiling water. Some like it less than that. Me, that's about right.

Miley got a recipe for "Cajun squash casserole", and cooked some tonight. It was pretty good. It was red onions, red bell peppers, and various seasonings added in. You cook the squash with some of the spices down to get the water out. Then you put in the pan, put some shredded cheeses and some other stuff on top, then bake.
IT was damn good.

Re green beans. There's a joint in town, Simpsonville, that has a green beans recipe that is the best I've ever tasted. The owner won't give up the recipe for love nor money.
These Blue Lakes of mine are so good, that his recipe with 'em would be so good, you'd just shit. I'm almost considering black-bagging him and water-boarding him to get that recipe.
Miley can't figure out what's in it from taste.

1. There was some sort of restraining order against the guy so how come they were even in the same house? Was it her or his residence? Such bad reporting as these would be answers that an oldtime reporter would have gotten immediately.

If it comes anywhere near cinnamon then I won't eat it. Too much misguided use of powdered cinnamon during my 10 years of boarding school. Funny that in the lab I used a lot of cinnamaldehyde, the flavor ingredient, and it didn't bother me. I guess the taste rekindles memories of horror desserts: rice pudding, tapioca, blanc mange, macaroni pudding, .......

Yes. The live part is under the bark and above the wood. It contains the xylem and phloem water and nutrient system from the roots and leaves. If you remove a ring of it there is no longer a connection between roots and leaves and thus death ensues.
The copper? Copper ions are toxic to most cells above trace amounts hence the tree gets poisoned.
