The Apple Macintosh computer -- the world's first fully portable computer!

Cool convertible furniture -- check out the table. It's like a magic trick.

The Girl with the Dogs gives baths to eight eight-week-old German shepherd puppies.

Rotating the Indiana Bell building 90 degrees in 1930, while people were still working inside.

Atari 2600 commercial, 1980.

Life is good.

Keep watching: not all of the pigs run.

Riding the California rails on a handcart. All I see here is Meals on Wheels. All I see here. Is. Meals. On. Wheels.

Tallest outdoor, outside elevator in the world. It's in China, of course.

Cat gets hypnotized by spinning toy.

Cute pet fox "Kiki."

Baby seal's first swimming lesson.

Steve Inman is back! Monkey attacks.

Karen's making trouble again.

If do right, no defense, Daniel-san. If do wrong, even worse.

Thank to sven for letting me know Inman is on YouTube. But he only has a few clips there, so I don't know if this will be a regular thing.

This rabbit:

Punking your dog. The tongue!

And of course, the latest evolution in robot movement and autonomy:

More training of robots to be the successor race to humans, which, you know, I'm now totally fine with. We had our chance.

21 And it only took 5 seconds to move the building!

BrainletTheatre @Hambrabai · Jul 25
The Indiana Bell Telephone Company had plans to build a larger facility to accommodate more workers and equipment. This would have meant a cut in telephone service during demolition, so the main contractor proposed relocating the existing building instead.

During the move all utilities remained connected, and the building continued operations unhindered. Sadly the Indiana Bell building was demolished in 1963 to make way for a significantly larger structure.

Option 2: We rip them to shreds and send them back to momma. Volunteers are scarce. This one is good too.

Elon (אֵילוֹן in Hebrew) is a masculine first name, or Jewish surname, which means "oak tree" in the Hebrew language. Variants of the name include Alon, Eilan, Eilon, and Elan; it can also be a variant spelling of Ilan and Ilon, of the similar meaning "tree".

209 60 years ago this month, Telstar 1 was launched into orbit. It was the world's first telecommunications satellite, and could relay a single very low resolution video signal across the Atlantic, or as many as 6 telephone circuits. It weighed in at a trim 170 pounds.

It was launched into a low earth orbit, with a period of about two hours forty minutes, and 20 minutes of each orbit were useful for transmitting across the Atlantic.

Telstar 1 only lasted a few months, but it paved the way, and proved the technology for modern telecommunications satellites, which can weigh over 8,000 pounds at launch, and are designed to provide service for about 15 years.

Lastly, when Telstar 1 was built, it wasn't a solo. They built a twin at the same time, a ground spare, which was never launched. After Telstar 1 failed, the ground spare was rendered inert, and displayed at an AT&T facility in the U.S..

It still exists, but is no longer in the U.S. Also, Telstar 1 is still orbiting the earth, and can occasionally be seen with simple binoculars.

When my mom died in the early 2000s we closed out the house somewhat..the original phones from circa 1963 were there. She still had the "phone insurance" on her monthly bill, something like $10 a month for 30 years.. Now when the phones were a monopoly your simple phone cost a mint so that wasn't crazy but I chewed out the phone company for not hipping her to the fact that $120 a year to insure your phone was robbery when new cordless phones were.$50 bucks. Corporate monopolies can't resist "maximizing their revenue"

After I had been in the service for a while, I dropped a note to my college advisor, who was ex-Army, to let him know that I was still alive. He wrote back, telling me to hang tough, and incidentally, with humor asked if I had bought a car yet.

When they came back ashore from a cruise (or whatever they called it) the bubble-heads that I knew would immediately go out and buy a car, usually, something unique.

Pro tip... take the Vette.

Maybe you can do some cruising? Autocross? Get the keys and give me a ring. I'll find something to do with it.

For science.

280 Also, we had Bell Labs. It was an absolute giant in R&D, a collection of brilliant engineers and physicists.. The longed-for aspiration of most EE's at the time.

Reading 'The History of Bell of Engineering and Science in the Bell System, National Service in War and Peace', is a real eye-opener.

Bell Labs was home of many of the great names in American science and technology.

Back in... Junior High, I believe it was, I went on a field trip to Bell Labs (their IL site). Don't remember much about it, except I got some kind of extruded plastic as a souvenir. Why? I couldn't honestly tell you...

282 204 If they changed the tackling rules to be like rugby - you have wrap arms during a tackle - no launching a shoulder to take a knee out - then they could go back to minimal helmets. Leather would probably do to protect the linemen. Fewer concussions too. Granted, it might suck to be a defensive back with Derrick Henry busting through the line.

Hey Mr. Intellectual independent voter type guy question are you serious?

Posted by: Commenter What Got a Shirt at July 29, 2022 09:31 PM (CJAql)
----
Defensive back (called Fullback)? Take a cricket bat with you. /s
You have to wrap your arms because you have to hold the player. Unlike gridiron, falling down or touching a knee down or the ball in your hands/arms touching the ground, does not stop play. The tackled player can simply stand up with the ball and keep running. If he is held down then he must release the ball else it is a foul. So tackle below the knee and hold him down long enough that the ball is released. Hold too long and YOU are fouling.
